London On My Mind

The 19 Best Thames River Cruises for Sightseeing & Getting About

While it’s often overlooked, one of the most iconic and defining features of London is the River Thames. This waterway flows from deep in the heart of southern England to the English Channel in the west. As it flows through London, the Thames is a wide snake, creating the geography of the city with the Southbank on one side, Westminster and the City on the other.

No matter how you think about the Thames, it’s an important part of London and its history. Goods are still shipped up and down the river at all hours of the day and night, and passengers board boats to journey along its lengths too. In this post, I’ll cover the latter – since you may be considering a Thames cruise during your own London itinerary .

Thames River Cruises Hero

I’ve journeyed along the Thames many ways, including on those more focused on commuting. While options used to be limited, today you can enjoy a variety of different Thames river cruises from Murder Mystery cruises to quick museum ferries. You can float leisurely to enjoy the view of London’s must-see sights from the water or zoom around on a speedboat to enjoy a few thrills. There literally are Thames river cruises for every travel style.

If you want to learn more about your options and discover the best Thames river cruises, read on. In this post, you’ll learn the differences between cruise offerings and hopefully find the one that’s perfect for your upcoming London trip.

Table of Contents

Best Variety: City Cruises

Best Thames River Cruise- City Cruises Evening

London looks pretty from every angle. No discussion there. However, it looks its prettiest from the River Thames. Many landmarks are right on the banks of the river, and that’s why a cruise offers a vantage point to see these iconic buildings. As you’ll read in a minute, you’ll see that cruises are also an excellent opportunity to avoid crowds at the tube. Keep on reading to find out the best Thames River Cruises.

Hop-On/Hop-Off

The Hop-On/Hop-Off cruise is one of City Experiences’ regular sightseeing boats. This 24-hour river pass is your gateway to tourist hotspots, including the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, and Tower Bridge. The tour has four stops: Westminster Pier, London Eye Pier, Tower Pier, and Greenwich Pier. You can hop on and off at these stops and explore each London area.

Sightseeing Cruises

There’s nothing like taking in the beauty of London as you meander along the Thames. Below, you’ll find two sightseeing cruises that show you London’s iconic landmark aboard their boats.

  • Day Cruise – City experiences also have day and evening sightseeing cruises. Their daytime cruise takes you on a two-hour ride to see the best of London. During winter, head to the bar, get a hot drink and head up to its fabulous open upper deck where you can marvel at panoramic views of London. The Thames River and the city look lovely when the sun goes down.
  • Evening Cruise – With City Experiences, you can also book evening river cruises on the Thames. Set the mood with a bubbly glass of champagne in one hand and canapés in the other one. You’ll take in views of the London Eye, Westminster, Tower Bridge, and Tower of London for two hours while listening to smooth tunes in the background.

Specialty Cruises

Best Thames River Cruise - Food

The best thing about cruises is that the experience they offer comes in all shapes and colors. These cruises below combine sightseeing with music (and mystery) to spice up your river adventure!

  • River Thames Jazz Cruise – Marrying music and sightseeing, the Thames Jazz cruise recreates life in London’s Roaring 20s. So, put on your best clothes and prepare for some gilded fun. You’ll experience a fancy three-course meal, a jazz quintet playing classics like Girl from Ipanema, Day and Night, and Summertime while seeing images of London icons pass by through your window.
  • Elvis Tribute Cruise – From the 20s, we go to the 50s with this fantastic Elvis Tribute Cruise. It’s pretty much the same as the Jazz cruise. The main difference is that you’ll be eating to the sound of Elvis’ lively rock and roll hits. The cruise invites Matt King, who has won many trophies as Elvis, to play Presley’s hits. After dinner, be ready to dance the night away, as you’ll get a chance to get onto the dance floor as the boat heads towards Tower Bridge.
  • Murder Mystery Dinner Cruise – If music isn’t for you, don’t worry, I have something you’ll love. The murder mystery dinner cruise invokes Agatha Christie’s spirit and invites you to discover who’s behind the bloody murder that occurred a few minutes before you boarded. While you follow the clues, you’ll enjoy a lovely three-course meal and a glass of fizz. Don’t let your guard down, though. The murderer can be anywhere.

Poshest Dining Cruises: Bateaux

Best Thames River Cruise Bateaux

These culinary cruises are the ultimate London experience for foodies. They cater to every taste and allow you to enjoy sumptuous meals with a backdrop of the city you won’t get from any skyscraper.

Bateaux dinner cruise is no ordinary cruise; it’s an experience. Bateaux combines Thames river sightseeing with elegant, unforgettable dinners and lunches. They offer exclusive seasonal voyages year-round and customized experiences for special occasions, such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter.

The courses boast an impressive selection of premium wines, decadent dishes, and mouth-watering cocktails. As for regular dinner tours, you can always choose among three options: platinum, gold, and silver. The regular Sunday lunches offer two packages, Classic plus Sunday lunch and Classic Sunday lunch. While most experiences provide similar service, the most expensive ones offer better seats and five-course meals.

Runner Up: City Cruises

Thames River Cruises - City Cruise Afternoon tea

  • Lunch Cruise on the River Thames – While not as fancy as the Bateaux, this lunch cruise from City Cruises offers a two-course meal with live or recorded commentary. There’s also a bar where you can order delicious cocktails and take them to the deck for unbroken views of the city.
  • Afternoon Tea Cruise on the River Thames – No list of dining cruises would be complete without an afternoon tea cruise. Those who’d like to participate in London’s iconic afternoon teas can do it with this City Cruises package. Instead of fancy hotel rooms, they’ve recreated the English tradition and invite you to sip the best tea in London while meandering along the Thames.  You’ll also enjoy sumptuous delicacies, including a selection of sandwiches, mini pastries, and scones with clotted cream and jam.
  • Dinner Cruise on the River Thames – Back to the dinner options, this dinner cruise along the River Thames is a more affordable alternative for those who want to experience the river at night . The three-hour journey includes a four-course meal, first-class service, and after-dinner dancing. All while enjoying the best views of the city.

Best Speedboat Experience: Thames RIB Experience

Thames River Cruises Thames-rib-Experience

When it comes to Thames River Cruises, there’s a wide variety. If you don’t believe me, just look at these speedboat experiences!

The Thames RIB Experience will flood your system with a rush of adrenaline. This cruise zips through London while a stereo system pumps out James Bond music. It’s an excellent and fun option if you want to escape regular sightseeing tours. They have different packages with the Canary Wharf, Thames Barrier, the Ultimate Spy experiences as the most popular. They all follow almost the same route and pass by most London landmarks. There’s one thing all tours have in common, though. When you get past Tower Bridge, the captain picks up speed and zips to the Thames Barrier and back!

Runners Up: Thames Rockets & Thamesjet

  • Thames Rockets – Thames Rockets also offer speedboats for the adrenaline junkie. The good thing about Thames Rockets is that they offer a fantastic children’s experience, Captain Kidd’s Canary Wharf Voyage. It is exclusively for families and also first-timers. The ride isn’t as crazy as regular speedboat tours and allows children to have a good time without feeling scared. Their Rocket Revolution Embark is another popular tour, which includes a spin on the world-famous London Eye.
  • Thamesjet by City Cruises – The Thamesjet by City Cruises is another option you can book to have an exhilarating experience on the River Thames. The tour takes you from Westminster down to Tower bridge in a fun-filled 50-minute ride. When you approach Canary Wharf, the caption will speed up, making exciting twists and turns on the River Thames.

Transit Cruises on the Thames

Best Thames River Cruise - Thames River Sightseeing

You don’t have to book a touristy cruise to experience the Thames from up close. You can also take one of the many transit cruises locals use to commute every day from different parts of the city.

Uber Boat by Thames Clipper

The Uber Boat by Thames Clipper is just like the Underground, except that piers replace the tube stations.

Their high-speed catamarans have become one of the best ways to get across London. You can book unlimited all-day tickets to travel across all of their piers (it stops at 23 piers) or simply use your Oyster card to pay. Most people love the trip from Embankment to Greenwich.

The app has an audio guide you can listen to during the 30-minute journey from central London. The Uber Boat also offers O2 Post-Show services. So, if you watch a show at the O2, you can sail back into town with the Uber Boat!

Thames River Sightseeing

Thames River Sightseeing stands out not only for the diverse tours they provide but also for their boats. The company has an impressive fleet of twelve boats, including the Thomas Doggett, The Mercuria, and the Sarpedon.

They offer three packages to explore London’s best sights, the Westminster to Greenwich cruise (1 hour – 2hours), Westminster to Tower Bridge Quay cruise (30 min- 1 hour), and the Greenwich to Westminster cruise (1 hour -2 hours). You can also buy a 2 Day River Pass, which offers unlimited travel between Westminster, Embankment, Festival, Bankside, Tower Bridge Quay, and Greenwich.

Thames River Cruises - Turks

Turk Launches is one of the oldest companies you’re likely to come across in London. This family-run company has been in the riverboats scene for over 300 years. Their rides last 40 minutes and take you to explore the stunning stretch of the river Thames. You can meander through southwest London with their round-trip between Kingston and Richmond or explore historic Hampton Court Palace on their Hampton Court cruise.

Tate Boat

Also known as the RB2 service, the Tate Boat is a tiny boat linking the Tate Modern and Tate Britain. It’s an excellent alternative to see some of London’s waterfront as the ride passes by Big Ben Parliament, London Eye, among other sights. The boat departs every 20–30 minutes. I suggest going to the Tate Britain first and then the Tate Modern, so you can walk to The Shard or Globe Theater after visiting the museum.

Other Unique Thames Cruises

Best Thames River Cruise - London eye

If none of the tours above caught your eye, you might find these Thames River Cruises interesting. Unlike the cruises above, these two tours explore the river and London’s waterfront from a different perspective.

London Eye River Cruise

The London Eye River Cruise allows you to look at London, not from one but two vantage points. Their tour includes a 40-minute circular sightseeing tour to the heart of London along the Thames and a standard entry to the London Eye. The good news is that you can book your entry times for the London Eye whenever you’re ready since the tickets are valid for 90 days from the day you go on the River Cruise. So, you can see the city from above any other day.

Lady Daphne

You can travel back to the days when England’s sailors ruled the waves of every ocean aboard the Lady Daphne. Built in 1923, the Lady Daphne is one of London’s historic wooden vessels still sailing. While you obviously can see London’s waterfront, the tour is mainly devoted to learning about English coastal trade and was like spending a day on a boat.

You can also book a Clay Shooting experience, where you take a sail along the Thames and moor up at an approved shooting location. One of the highlights of their tour is that the Tower Bridge rises for Lady Daphne to go through during your trip.

As you can tell, there are plenty of options for exploring London by way of the River Thames. Have any questions about these various Thames river cruises? Let me know in the comments, or join the conversation in my London Travel Tips Facebook group .

Cruising aboard barge Magna Carta on the Royal River Thames is a study in both antique and modern lifestyles – an ancient history book with the pages still being written.

Guests are met in London at the glamorous Stafford Hotel where they enjoy an afternoon tea. Then, the modern metropolis becomes but a distant memory upon boarding Magna Carta. Captain Dominic Read is a longtime area resident and an expert in the folklore and history of the river and its inhabitants. The cruise unfolds major historic sites alongside small slices of life: gently gliding past mansions and boathouses, as well as villages that look as if Miss Marple will pop out at any minute! History comes alive at Hampton Court Palace (where Magna Carta moors), the Tudor-style palace of King Henry the 8th; Windsor Castle, home to British royalty; and Christ Church College in Oxford University, the oldest university in the English-speaking world.

Back on board, four spacious cabins with modern en-suite baths provide havens of privacy, while the comfortable deck and light-filled indoor salon become the perfect vantage points to take in the passing scene. Dining options deliciously address outdated notions about British cuisine. Magna Carta’s menus are fresh and creative, utilizing the best of locally-sourced produce, meats, and fish. A broad selection of Old and New World wines are carefully paired with the meals.

Unlike barging in other locations, it is not possible to bicycle or walk alongside the vessel as it cruises; however, once moored, active guests can disembark to explore port towns and the surrounding countryside by bicycle or on foot.

River Thames sightseeing cruise | A journey down London's liquid lifeline

What better way to describe London, if not an enchanted forest? If you stand anywhere in the middle of the city and do a 360-degree spin, you’ll see the burg don a different attire at every angle - a cloak of dreams, a motley of royalty, a gown of beauty and so much more.

In Ralph McTell’s words,

“So how can you tell me you’re lonely, And say for you that the sun don’t shine? Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London. I'll show you something to make you change your mind”

That’s exactly what a sightseeing cruise of the Thames River offers! Instead of the streets, you’ll be cruising down London’s artery. Encounter the city’s proud landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben, National Theatre, Tate Modern, Tower Bridge, and more, dotting its shore, all in the span of a few hours!

Get a sound understanding of what attractions you can see and what pier is best and the most convenient for you using this map.

Most cruise boats have both indoor and outdoor seating with two-by-two seats.

For the best selfie spots, pick an outdoor seat for uninterrupted views and perfect photo sessions if you don't mind the somewhat harsh weather. However, it's a good idea to wear clothes that dry quickly if you fear you might get wet.

If you are picking an indoor seat, pick a window seat, especially if you are traveling solo, for a great view. Indoor seats are also great if you think it may rain but still want to go on a cruise. These indoor spaces are also heated and most cruise boats are equipped with a full-licensed bar.

6 most famous bridges you can see on the River Thames sightseeing cruise

Tower bridge

This is undoubtedly the most iconic bridge in London. Built in 1894, it's known for its twin towers, Gothic Revival architecture, and bascules (the middle section that raises to allow large ships to pass). You can even walk across the walkways high above the Thames for stunning views!

Blackfriars Bridge

Blackfriars Bridge

This bridge holds historical significance. First built in Roman times, the current version dates back to the late 18th century. It's known for its elegant design with five elliptical arches and its artistic connections - featuring statues of famous figures like William Shakespeare and Queen Victoria.

Thames Sightseeing Cruise

Westminster Bridge

Opened in 1862, it's the first major wrought-iron Thames bridge known for its seven arches and its lamp standards designed by famous gas engineer Isambard Kingdom Brune. You can see it on all three cruises. Its green color is said to match the leather seats in the House of Commons, located nearby.

Thames Sightseeing Cruise

Waterloo Bridge

This is the longest of the central London bridges, spanning the Thames at a whopping 1,230 feet. Opened in 1817, it played a significant role in the Battle of Waterloo, hence the name. It was also the first bridge across the Thames to be lit by gas lamps.

Thames Sightseeing Cruise

Lambeth Bridge

This suspension bridge is known for its classy design and eight massive towers. Opened in 1862, it replaced an earlier ferry service and offered a crucial north-south link across the river. Lambeth Bridge is a popular spot for film and television appearances.

Thames Sightseeing Cruise

London Bridge

Despite its name, Tower Bridge isn't the most famous one in London (often confused with Tower Bridge). The first bridge on this site was built by the Romans in the 1st century AD! The current bridge, opened in 1971, is a modern concrete and steel structure. You can see it on the hop-on hop-off cruise.

Tips if you are planning to get on a Thames sightseeing cruise

Thames River Cruise

Cruise when the weather's bad!

Ever thought about enjoying London's views when the weather's at its worst? Sounds a bit wild, but hear us out! Imagine this: grey skies, maybe a drizzle and the London skyline shrouded in the gloomy 'gram-worthy natural filter! Perfect, right? Grab your raincoat, head to the waterfront, and hop on a sightseeing cruise. And here's the kicker – sit on the top deck! Sure, it's not the coziest spot, but it's worth it.

Why? Because no one else in their right mind would be up there in such weather. You could have the whole top deck to yourself, perfect for some quality 'me time'. Sounds blissful, doesn't it?

Use your travel card wisely

Got a travel card for your London adventure? Flash it when you buy your cruise ticket. Those cruises aren't just for tourists; commuters use them too. So, you'll save some cash. Every penny counts, especially in pricey London.

Pick a weekday

Simple math here: weekdays = fewer people. While the city buzzes with life, lots of folks are stuck at work or school. So, if you can, aim for a weekday cruise: less crowd, more peace.

Start from Greenwich or Westminster

For the ultimate Thames experience, start from either end. We'd recommend Greenwich. It's bustling but not as crazy as Westminster. Plus, you can check out some cool sights before boarding. And if you time it right (i.e., tip 1!), you might have the top deck all to yourself.

Snap perfect photos

One word: photos! River Thames sightseeing cruises offer awesome photo ops without the crowd combat. Say goodbye to photobombers ruining your shots of Big Ben or the London Eye. Plus, you get unique angles and views you won't get on foot.

"Another time"

Not only do you get killer views, but you also get a guided tour. Learn about the buildings, bridges, and districts as you cruise the Thames. Fun facts included! Like, did you know Ian McKellen co-owns The Grapes pub? And that man you see, standing in the middle of the River? Nope, not Jesus. That's a statue (named Another Time ) created by the famous curator Antony Gormley. It is also rumored that Sir Ian McKellen owns it!

Wear comfortable clothing

The dress code on most Thames cruises is smart casual attire. However, feel free to dress more formally for any special occasion. Choose comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. It's also advisable to dress in layers as London's weather can be quite unpredictable. This way you can add on more layers if the weather gets chilly. Don't forget hats and sunscreen if you opt for a cruise during the day, especially in the summer. You may also want to carry a small bag for your sunscreen, water bottles, and camera.

Frequently Asked Questions about River Thames sightseeing cruises

There are two types of sightseeing cruises available. One is a one-way or round-trip cruise on the River Thames, while the other is a Hop-on Hop-off cruise, offering the flexibility of getting on or off at any of the 19 piers available.

Thames sightseeing cruises are extremely easy on the pocket. At only €10.25, you can hop on and off at any of the piers near numerous famous London attractions. Audio commentary, wheelchairs, and other facilities are also provided on board.

While food is not included in the ticket price, a wide range of delectable English cuisine is available for purchase onboard.

Choose the hop-on hop-off cruise if you want the most flexibility, want to explore a wider range of areas along the Thames, and have a full day to spend sightseeing. Choose the sightseeing cruise from Westminster if you're on a budget and want a concise tour focused on central London's most iconic sights, with a close-up view of Tower Bridge.

You can see the following London attractions and more: Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, the London Eye, Palace of Westminster, Lambeth Palace, Chelsea Royal Hospital, The Shard, Tower Bridge (from a distance), Cutty Sark (historic tea clipper ship), Royal Observatory, National Maritime Museum, etc.

Peak season (June-August): If you're visiting during peak summer months, booking a day or two in advance is recommended, especially for weekend cruises. This ensures you get a spot on your preferred cruise time. Shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October): During these times, it's usually safe to book the day before or even on the day of the cruise, especially for weekday cruises. However, if there's a specific route or time you have your heart set on, booking a day in advance might be a good idea for peace of mind. Off-season (November-March): The Thames cruises operate year-round, but during the off-season, they tend to have less frequent departures. Booking online a day in advance is still recommended to confirm availability and secure your spot, especially if you're traveling during weekdays when there might be fewer departures.

Review of Thames River Cruises

What is the best london river cruise.

river cruise bar london

While our London walking tours are a great way to see and learn a lot about the city, Thames River cruises offer a completely different perspective that you might also enjoy - I certainly do!

In this post I am going to review all the different options you have for cruising through London, as well as sharing some of my experiences and top tips.

The most popular type of river cruise is a hop-on hop-off tour , allowing you to stop and get off the boat at various docks on the Thames.

Here are the top cruise services in London:

City Cruises

  • Uber Boat by Thames Clippers
  • Thames River Service

There are also special cruise services such as Tate to Tate by Thames Clippers, connecting both historic museums by boat.

Alternatively, you might also want to consider a circular loop without any stops, or perhaps a speedboat ride during the summer.

Like many cities, there are also lunch and dinner cruises available on the Thames River.

If you're in North London (where I live), you might want to consider a canal cruise around Little Venice and Camden Lock instead.

Concerned about the price? Check my list of combo packages that include a Thames River cruise for free!

Although I do my best to provide a balanced look at these services, it's important to get other perspectives.

Therefore, I've also included a selection of recommendations from members of our London Travel Tips Facebook group.

HOP-ON-HOP-OFF THAMES RIVER CRUISES

If you’re looking for a boat tour or cruise that will allow you the freedom to explore at your own pace, consider one of the following companies.

Although there aren’t many London boat services that specialize specifically in hop-on-hop-off Thames cruises, there are a few that provide the opportunity to explore London however you wish.

You can choose to purchase one single ride, a cheaper return ticket, or a 24-hour travel pass with unlimited rides.

TIP: Many of these cruises are included for free or at a lower cost with any of the many London tourist attraction passes available to you.

CITY CRUISES

City Cruises is probably the most well-known company offering a basic Thames River cruise. They are also the best value for the money, in my opinion.

City Cruises also offers speedboat tours and lunch and dinner cruises .

City Cruises offers both single tickets (which are fine) and a hop-on-hop-off service with 4 stops between Westminster and Greenwich (which is better).

The hop-on-hop-off ticket is called the River Pass and I bought this one just recently, when the spring weather finally hit London!

I used it to get me from Greenwich and back primarily, but I did make an impromptu stop at London Bridge to grab lunch at Borough Market.

I bought the River Pass, which gave me 24-hour unlimited access to the River on City Cruises Boats.

Even though I'm a tour guide, I enjoy going on other people's tours so I really enjoyed the live commentary on the journeys I took.

I was happy for the 24 hour pass, but if you want more time on the boat, you can get a 72-hour River Pass giving you three days to use the service, rather than the 24-hour pass I bought.

Since the weather was good, I sat on the open-aired top of the boat - but there is inside seating downstairs if the London weather gets a bit wet or chilly.

TIP:  City Cruises' hop-on-hop-off service is  included for free for holders of a London Pass , a tourist attraction concession card.

Ticket and Reviews

Single-ride tickets vary depending on your starting and ending point.

If you are planning on taking at least two rides, I recommend that you buy a River Pass .

This pass gives you unlimited travel between their piers.

To know more about the tickets, pricing or to buy the tickets, check out our full page on Thames river cruise by City Cruises .

City Cruises sports a 4 out of 5 stars  rating on TripAdvisor along with mostly positive reviews.

To read more about the City Cruises reviews, check out the post here .

UBER BOAT BY THAMES CLIPPERS

Thames Clippers is a commuter boat service which, in my opinion, are a vastly underrated way to travel through town.

They offer single-journey tickets, as well as an all-day ticket, that gives you unlimited hop-on, hop-off travel for one day (between 10 am and 11 pm).

This is what I always recommend to my friends and family when they come to visit me in London.

I think it's great value for money and makes travelling through town a little more fun and I take the Uber Boat at least once a month.

One of my favourite things about it is that I can pay using my contactless debit card so there's no need to faff around with tickets!

The Uber Boat is valid in their Central and East Zone lines which include 18 piers including Greenwich, Tower, Westminster, and more. Boats depart every 20 minutes.

Some of the central London landmarks you can get to easily from the Uber Boat piers:

  • St. Paul’s Cathedral
  • Tower of London
  • Tower Bridge
  • Tate Modern
  • Covent Garden
  • Trafalgar Square
  • Borough Market
  • National Gallery of Art
  • British Museum
  • Houses of Parliament
  • Churchill War Rooms
  • HMS Belfast
  • Shakespeare's Globe
  • Palace of Westminster

You can download their free audio tour (available in English, Spanish, French, and German) if you are taking the boat for sightseeing purposes, but I feel that the journey is enjoyable even without it.

Also, to the delight of myself and my friends, you can buy alcoholic (and non) refreshments on board.

I can personally recommend the rose' wine they sell, although the pre-mixed cans of Jack Daniels and Coke seemed to be the most popular option the last time I was at the bar.

And prepare yourselves...

The boat travels at a moderate speed through the city but once we passed Tower Bridge, it sped up and I was flying past the docklands toward Canary Wharf!

It's a thrill not everybody on board was expecting.

Uber Boat Ticket Prices and Reviews

To know more about the ticket prices or to purchase the ticket , visit our separate post on Uber Boats Tickets and Reviews .

Thames Clippers has received a 4 out of 5 stars  rating on both TripAdvisor and Viator.

To read more about the reviews of Uber Boats , read our post here .

THAMES RIVER SERVICE

Thames River Services (TRS) offers a variety of guided sightseeing tours that cover several different highlights along the river.

Prices and the length of the trip vary depending on what route you select.

There are a total of six different tours offered out of Westminster, Greenwich, and St. Katharine's Docks (my favourite hidden gem and place to get a drink or bite to eat after finishing my All in One Tour ).

I would recommend the Westminster to Greenwich journey to soak up all the sights on the riverfront.

Guests have the option to pay for a one-way ticket or round-trip fare, a 2 days hopper pass, or a hop-on, hop-off ticket (through Circular Cruises).

With a 4 ½ out of 5 stars  rating on both Yelp and TripAdvisor, TRS is one of the highest-rated cruise companies in London.

To read more about reviews and tickets of TRS cruise , visit our post on Thames River Service (TRS) .

Tate to Tate by Thames Clippers

This route on the Thames Clippers service is the "RB2 Tate to Tate".

It takes visitors between the two Tate Museums: the free  Tate Modern  at Bankside Pier and Tate Britain at Millbank Pier.

I recently took this ride to see the latest exhibition at the Tate Britain.

Boats run every 30 minutes and when I arrived at the pier I just tapped with my contactless card to pay for my journey - like with the Uber boats.

I only needed to wait 10 minutes for the boat and the ride took me 20 minutes so I got across town in a half an hour which is great!

The boats have both outdoor seating but the weather was not great on the day I travelled so I sat indoors.

As this is not a sightseeing boat there is no live commentary, but that wasn't the purpose of my journey so I didn't mind.

You can purchase tickets in advance online from the Tate Shop website , or before you board a boat from a self-serve kiosk on the pier.

You can also use your  Oyster card , if you have one, upon boarding the boat.

When you purchase, look for the RB2 service, a central zone ticket price.

Find out more or book tickets here.

Prices (single one-way ticket)

  • Adult:  One Way - £10.90
  • Child 5 to 15:  One Way - £5.45
  • Children under 5 travel for free
  • Adult TfL Travelcard: One Way - £7.30
  • Child 5-15 TfL Travelcard: One Way - £3.65

For a complete timetable of the RB2 route that stops at both Tates, click  here for schedules.

Look for times for Bankside (the Tate Modern) and Millbank (the Tate Britain).

The Tate Boat service has been given a 4 ½ star rating on TripAdvisor.

Although it is not a full five stars, the reality is that they haven’t received any negative ratings.

There is only one complaint thus far, and it focuses on the length of time it may take to get tickets onto the boat.

I found that this is no longer a problem as I just used my contactless card so there is no need to wait for tickets these days.

But, even that reviewer suggests that you persevere and use this ferry service to get from Tate to Tate as it was worth the hassle.

Most passengers love this form of transportation, and I find it pretty reliable!

CIRCULAR LOOP THAMES RIVER SIGHTSEEING CRUISES

A circular loop cruise is specifically a river tour of the Thames.

From the boat, you will see many amazing sights such as  St. Paul’s Cathedral , the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament , and  Big Ben .

Most circular loop cruises are about an hour long.

Note that some circular loop cruises are hop-on-hop-off while others allow you to leave the cruise at any pier, but you may not board again.

Thames River Service Circular Cruise

river cruise bar london

This circular loop cruise allows you to hop on and off whenever you wish so that you can get a better look at the sites located all along the Thames.

The full cruise takes about an hour, but you can embark and disembark at your discretion throughout the day.

This circular cruise will take you past more than a dozen historic locations that are visible from the water.

There is commentary provided along the way to point out significant sights such as Old Scotland Yard or the Houses of Parliament.

Find more information or purchase tickets here.

Ticket Prices

Click here to purchase tickets .

Single Ticket

  • £12.90 for Adults
  • £8.90 for Children/Freedom Pass Holders

Return Ticket

  • £18.90 for Adults
  • £12.90 for Children/Freedom Pass Holders

This cruise service has been in operation for several years, but they don’t have a lot of reviews.

The few negative reviews say that the tour feels short and that you do not see so many sights.

Mostly though the reviews are positive, saying that the live commentary is very informative and humorous.

Reviews say that the boat ride was relaxing and enjoyable, and well-organized. I haven't taken this one yet myself so we will take their word for it for now!

The London Eye River Cruise

Whether you’re planning to visit the London Eye or you just want a tour around the Thames which focuses on the giant Ferris wheel, this river cruise is a great alternative to other services.

Although the London Eye River Cruise is not as long as other boat tours in the area, it can be a lot more affordable.

This circular loop will take you past locations such as Big Ben, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The Tower of London, and the Houses of Parliament.

You can also purchase this as a bundle with your London Eye Tickets which is great for visitors wanting to take a journey on the Ferris wheel.

I've done this in the past and booked online which saved me over £11.00!

TIP: This cruise is also part of the London Explorer Pass , which could save you between 20-50% off of the retail price.

Find out more or purchase tickets here.

Ticket Prices and Reviews:

Prices of the cruise are £19.50 for Adults and £16.50 for Children.

To buy tickets or to know about the Children's offer, operating hours and other details, check out our detailed post on The London Eye River Cruise .

This river cruise company has also earned a 4 ½ out of 5 stars rating on TripAdvisor.

Sail on a 1920s Barge

Hop aboard a historic wooden Thames Sailing Barge, and enjoy a voyage through history along the Thames.

Lady Daphne was the last wooden sailing barge still working on the Thames - and has recently be replaced by the Sailing Barge "Will."

river cruise bar london

There are regularly run tours and the ship is also available for private hire.

A fellow tour guide, Jess, and I were lucky enough to take a journey on the Lady Daphne and hope to repeat it with Will in the future!

On our journey, we boarded at Tower Millennium Pier and rode all the way to Greenwich (where we got an awesome view of the Thames Barrier) and back.

But the best part was that we also got to sail under Tower Bridge - and they raised the Bridge just for our boat! We felt like real VIPs.

Check our post for prices and more information.

SPEEDBOAT RIDES

Speedboat rides on the Thames are not a budget option, but they are thrilling - and I find them to be very popular with families who take my walking tour.

Throughout the experience, passengers will alternate between enjoying a leisurely ride along the Thames for sightseeing and a fast-paced thrill ride.

Guests are well protected with waterproof jackets, a life jacket, and goggle-style visors to withstand the thrilling wind speeds they will experience.

Thames RIB Experience

This RIB (Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat)  is one of the fastest boats on the Thames, jetting visitors along the river at approximately 30 knots.

Each boat (which only holds up to 12 people) is manned by a guide who provides commentary throughout the journey.

In addition to their longer tour of the Thames, this company also manages three shorter tours of Canary Wharf, and the Tower Millennium Pier.

Ticket prices typically depend upon the length of the boat ride.

Find more information or purchase tickets here .

Ticket Prices & Reviews

This company operates Speedboat rides on three different routes.

These routes are Thames Barrier Experience (75 minutes), Canary Wharf Experience (50 minutes) and Tower RIB Blast (20 minutes).

To know more about the prices or to purchase the tickets, read our post on Thames Speedboat Tours .

The Thames RIB Experience has earned a full 5-star rating on TripAdvisor – and that includes over 2,500 positive reviews.

To know other details about the reviews on Thames RIB experience, read our post here .

Thames Jet by City Cruises

This speedboat service is managed by City Cruises and offers a similar excursion to the RIB Experience I listed above.

They don’t offer as many tours as their competitors, but the Thames Jet is an excellent alternative.

river cruise bar london

Their Thames Rush speedboat tour is over 50 minutes.

Ticket prices are comparable to similar services, but they also offer family tickets at a concession.

More information or to purchase tickets .

Prices are £49 for adults and £39 for Children (15 and under).

To know more about operating hours or to buy tickets, check out our post on Thames River Speedboat Tours .

TripAdvisor has given the Thames Jet service 4 ½ out of 5 stars .

CANAL BOAT RIDES

Operating entirely along the canals that flow through the north of London, a canal ride is a charming way to see parts of London that most tourists miss.

As I live in north London, a canal ride is a yearly tradition of mine!

river cruise bar london

For a true experience off the beaten path, these relaxing and beautiful rides are a definite must.

Jason's Original Canal Boat Trip

From March to November, you can take a canal boat ride with Jason's Original with live commentary from trained guides.

  • One Way: Adult - £18 / Concession £14
  • Return: Adult - £23 / Concession £19

Jason’s London Canal Boat Trip is offered as part of the London Pass , which means more savings for you!

London Waterbus Company

This is the company I usually book with as the price is great, the boats are comfortable, and the staff are fantastic.

The last time I went was a beautiful summer day and I boarded in Little Venice and travelled to Camden Lock (where Camden Market is).

On the ride, we passed through Regent's Park and the grounds of London Zoo for some charming views!

It took us just 45 minutes for the one way journey, and I enjoyed live commentary the entire way.

  • Adult (17-59 years) £16.00
  • Child (5-16 years) £12
  • Student 17+ with photo student ID £12
  • Senior 60+ years £12
  • Toddler (under 3 years) Free

Check their  website  for more details and to purchase tickets.

LUNCH AND DINNER CRUISES

Sightseeing cruises are nice, but they might not be the best option for business events or dating.

If you’re looking for a more sociable trip along the Thames, consider one of the following Dining Cruises.

In addition to the typical dinner cruise, many companies offer a variety of dining and party cruises, such as tea and showboat cruises, that allow you to enjoy more than just the sights and sounds of London.

To browse a full list of lunch and dinner cruise options by type rather than by company, click here .

Whether you want to go on a cruise with wonderful music and fabulous food, or you just want to have your afternoon tea out on the Thames, City Cruises offers a wide variety of options.

The Jazz Cruise is my favorite! I did this one just a few weeks ago, in fact.

I arrived with a friend about 15 minutes before departure.

When I boarded I was given a glass of sparkling wine to kick things off!

I was shown to our pre-allocated table and then we were free to wander the boat and enjoy the live music.

After being on the water for a bit, we returned to our table for a fantastic 3-course dinner, followed by dancing as the band continued to play.

The whole experience lasted about 3 hours and was worth every penny!

If you order online during the summer, you can save 20% on each dining cruise offered through this company.

Tickets are already quite affordable, so this is an excellent opportunity to save money while having fun out on the water.

Ticket Prices and Reviews

I am lucky because I live in London which means I can take advantage of these tours all year long.

The reason I'm saying this is because their prices fluctuate throughout the year and on different days of the week.

Read our complete post to check out the cheapest price you can expect on your trip.

Most reviewers have given them a 5-star rating, reporting that the food is quite excellent and the cruise itself is very relaxing.

To read more about the reviews, check out our post on Thames River Lunch & Dinner cruise .

BUS & BOAT COMBOS

There are a lot of boat tours and cruises offered on the Thames, but none of them can show you EVERYTHING worth seeing in London.

To experience more than just the river that runs through this beautiful city, you’ll want to consider combining a cruise with either walking tours or bus tours.

Thankfully, there are a lot of companies in the area that provide combo packages that include many different types of excursions.

These combination packages can be a great way to save money on all kinds of activities!

Big Bus Tours

Big Bus is one of the most popular tour companies in the world.

They offer services internationally and are well known for providing quality service.

river cruise bar london

Their combo package for London includes a cruise with City Cruises, their hop-on, hop-off bus tour, a selection of guided walking tours, and a promo codes booklet.

Tickets for this combo package can be purchased either for 24 or 48 hours, allowing you to take as much time as you wish to enjoy everything included.

If you’re looking for a combination package that will allow you to discover as much of the city as possible without paying a lot of money, this is a great choice.

Click here for m o re information or to book .

Ticket Prices & Reviews:

"Discover" 24-Hour Ticket and "Explore" 48 hours tickets are offered by Big Bus Tours .

Read our post to check out the prices and to know about operating hours.

Big Bus Tours of London has a 4-star rating on TripAdvisor. Most reviews are very positive, and comments about this specific combo package tend to be favorable.

To read more about the reviews of Big Bus Tours, read our post here .

Tootbus Tour

This tour service is almost the same as Big Bus Tours.

Much like their competitor, they also offer a Thames River cruise pass through City Cruises.

In recent times, I have found that the Tootbus has become more popular with my visitors than Big Bus Tours and they seem to be getting ever more popular.

You’ll also have access to 80+ stops at attractions all over London on their hop-on, hop-off bus tour.

Ticket prices are very similar, so this might be a great alternative if other combo packages are all sold out.

Tickets are available for 24 hours and 48 hours.

To know about the ticket price, hours or to book, read our post here .

Tootbus , once known as the Original London Sightseeing Tour, has received a 4-star rating on TripAdvisor.

A majority of the reviews are positive, but experiences with this tour company are a bit more mixed than other services in the same range.

Read our post to check out complete details about the review of Tootbus tours .

Things to Know When Going on a River Thames Cruise

Do you need to book Thames River Cruises in advance?

You don't necessarily need to, but if you do not book your tickets in advance, then you can get ticket from ticket counters on piers.

Due to limited availability, you may not always get tickets for a particular date or time slot.

As such, it is always advisable to book your cruise tickets in advance.

Note that it depends which boat journey you are going to take as to whether this is needed or not.

I found it worth it to book in advance for the London Eye and Boat bundle as that saved a bunch of money but for my trips on the Uber Boat, I wouldn't - and don't need to.

river cruise bar london

Where can I catch a Thames River Cruise?

Piers of some popular cruises are listed below:

  • City Cruises - Westminster Pier, London Eye Pier, Tower Pier, and Greenwich Pier
  • Uber Boat by Thames Clippers - Embankment Pier, Westminster Pier, Tower Millennium Pier, London Bridge City Pier, Canary Wharf, Greenwich Pier, North Greenwich Pier
  • Thames River Service - Westminster Pier
  • Tate to Tate by Thames Clippers - Bankside Pier, Millbank Pier
  • Thames River Services' Circular Cruise - Westminster Pier
  • London Eye River Cruise - The London Eye pier
  • Lady Daphne - Tower Millennium Pier
  • Thames RIB Experience - Embankment Pier
  • Thames Jet by City Cruises - Westminster Pier

Our Westminster Walking Tour ends within walking distance of the Westminster Pier and our City of London and All in One Tours finish right next to Tower Millennium Pier!

Tips From Locals and Travelers

Assuming you've read all or even just some of this post, you've had the chance to see my personal recommendations when it comes to Thames River cruises.

However, it's important to get a variety of opinions when it comes to these types of services.

Thankfully, many members of our London Travel Tips group on Facebook will offer their own thoughts on these cruise companies, and I've included some of their most helpful suggestions here.

river cruise bar london

It can get pretty cold in London during the winter, so travelers might be surprised to learn that they actually do keep most of the Thames River cruises open all year.

While it can get cold, pretty much every company uses boats with an indoor area where you can stay warm as you enjoy the ride.

river cruise bar london

Even so, it is recommended to bundle up during the winter anyways, so you shouldn't be too cold on a river cruise boat as long as you wear warm clothing.

river cruise bar london

A lot of locals recommend using the Uber Boat, because it's a very easy and consistent service and it offers stops all along the Thames, even in Greenwich.

As you already know, this is my favourite!

river cruise bar london

The reason this river cruise boat is so popular is because it's often used as transportation by people who live in London, and in fact they rely upon these boats to get to and from work.

river cruise bar london

Locals also note that you can pay for the Uber Boat by using an Oyster Card, and they offer price cuts for card holders.

Even better, once you get past the Tower Bridge, the boat will speed up and allow you to get around the city much quicker!

river cruise bar london

If you're wondering whether to take a hop-on hop-off tour on the river or a dinner cruise, it's worth noting that the dinner cruise does not include any commentary.

Travelers who want to learn more about the city while cruising down the Thames might not enjoy the dinner cruise as much, but it's still a great service for anyone who wants to enjoy the view of London as the sun is setting!

river cruise bar london

Other travelers suggest skipping the dinner cruise and hopping on the speed boat.

As Trish notes, these boats will wait until they are in clear waters and take off at thrilling speeds!

For even more helpful advice, you can always visit our London Travel Tips group on Facebook and ask whatever questions you might have.

London River Cruises

Making its way through the heart of London, the Thames is one of the most famous rivers in the world- and the London river cruise is one of the best ways to explore the beautiful river. Idling along the length of the Thames, the cruise offers fantastic, unobstructed views of London’s biggest and proudest buildings. Cruising past, one catches a glimpse of the London Eye in its slow rotation, of the Big Ben sounding the hour, of the glass facade of the odd-shaped Gherkin.

Initially having started as a speedboat tour, the river cruise in London has grown over the years to offer more sophisticated services. The cruises take place throughout the day- some in the afternoon, some in the evening, and some at teatime. Special lunch and dinner cruises add the luxury of onboard dining to the sightseeing cruise. The Thames River Hop on Hop off sightseeing tour is another interesting experience, allowing its cruisers to embark and disembark at ports of their choice to sightsee around the attractions.

The original speedboat tour has been retained in its original format as well, and is well suited for those looking for a round of sightseeing as well as adventure. Each river cruise in London is accompanied either by an audio-commentary or a special tour guide who offers a live- and often humorous- commentary on the attraction one passes by.

Top Attractions To Spot While On London River Cruise

The Thames river cruise serves as an excellent sightseeing route; gliding across the Thames, one catches a glimpse of some of the city’s biggest and most iconic attractions. While the Big Ben rings aloud with its hourly gong, the HMS Belfast stands moored as a testament to Britain’s war-ridden past; such are the sights that one comes across on their river cruise.

Tower of London

The Tower of London also known as Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortification of the Tower of London, is a 900-year-old castle and fortress in central London. Now a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tower of London has served in multiple roles, sometimes a treasury, sometimes a royal mint, sometimes a prison and then the holder of royal jewels. The Tower of London holds a permanent exhibition of these same jewels which are open to the public throughout the year. Tourists also get a chance to meet the resident ravens at the tower, who have been historically designated as the protectors and guardians of the Tower of London.

Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge is a defining mark in London, and many regard it as the most popular bridge in the United Kingdom, if not the whole world. The Tower Bridge is a bascule bridge- which means that it draws back from the center to let vessels pass through. Constructed in 1894, the Tower is laden in history, and once acted as an important route for traders who crossed the river with their horses and their carts. Today, visitors are allowed to not just walk across the iconic bridge with its panoramic views of the city, but also visit the engine rooms that help draw back the bridge.

St. Paul's Cathederal

St. Paul's Cathedral , London's largest cathedral, is one of the world's most important structures, known for its stunning dome with a lantern on top. The earliest church on the site was a wooden church dedicated to the Apostle Paul, which King Ethelbert of Kent constructed in 604 AD. Since then, the Church has undergone several reconstructions to take the shape that it has today. Visitors at St. Paul’s can take a tour of its many galleries- the Whispering Gallery, the Stone Gallery and the Golden Gallery-, as well as make their way down to the Crypt, which holds the remains of some of London’s biggest personalities.

House of Parliament

The Houses of Parliament are more than simply a tourist attraction in London; they serve as the center of British power. The 1000+ chambers of the Palace of Westminster, a Victorian Neo-Gothic extravaganza on the Thames's banks, including two of the most significant sites in UK politics — the House of Commons and House of Lords. Every day, MPs in the House of Commons and Peers in the House of Lords discuss problems and proposed legislation, which anyone may see from the public galleries of both houses. In addition, both chambers convene committee sessions to investigate matters in depth on a variety of topics, all of which are available to the public.

Big Ben

Near synonymous to the idea of London, the Big Ben is one of London’s most iconic structures. Sitting on the northern edge of the Palace of Westminster, the Big Ben Clock Tower is one of the most popular attractions to be viewed and photographed from the London River cruise. Strictly speaking, the name Big Ben refers to the massive Bell within the Tower, but the nickname is often extended to indicate the tower in its totality. Although the inner sanctums of the Big Ben are not open to the public, the Tower’s facade forms one of the most photographable destinations in all of London.

Shakespeare Globe

Any debate on London’s history would remain incomplete without a mention of the master himself- William Shakespeare. The modern Globe Theater is where the immortal writings of Shakespeare are put on stage. The Theater as it is today, is a reconstruction of the original Globe where the playwright conducted his plays and which was consecutively destroyed in fire. The modern building remains faithful to its predecessor, full with an open-air environment and the circular seating arrangement. The Globe regularly puts on productions of Shakespeare’s plays, and is open to the public throughout the year.

Millenium Bridge.jpg

The Millennium Bridge, also known as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a steel suspension bridge that spans the River Thames in London and is used by pedestrians. Its southern end is near the Globe Theater, Bankside Gallery, and Tate Modern, while its northern end is below St Paul's Cathedral, adjacent to the City of London School. The bridge's design was chosen in a competition organized by Southwark Council and RIBA Competitions in 1996. Arup Group, Foster & Partners, and Sir Anthony Caro collaborated on the winning "blade of light" design. It took four years for the bridge to be fully constructed, and the Millenium Bridge came into being in 2000, earning it its name.

HMS Belfast

A town-class light cruiser, the HMS Belfast was built for the Royal Navy. The iconic ship is now permanently moored on the docks of the Thames, and functions as a Museum operated by the Imperial War Museum. The ship, which had served the Navy during momentous crises such as the D-Day, the Korean War and the Arctic Convoy, now lives to tell the tale. Tourists at HMS Belfast can tour all nine decks of the war ship. A series of permanent displays and exhibitions showcase weapons, clothing, bunk beds and ship equipment used by the crew on board. Tourists can even enter into the massive gun turrets and learn about how the ship fired during the Normandy wars.

the Gherkin

Overlooking the city’s skyline, the Gherkin is one of the most iconic modern buildings of London. Nearly three times the height of the Niagara Falls, the Gherkin stands out in its unique cucumber-shaped design. The Gherkin is an office building, and is home to some of London’s biggest businesses. Although the skyscraper isn’t normally open to the public, the top floors of the building do feature two of London’s most iconic eateries- the Helix Restaurant and Iris Bar- both of which are famed for their fantasstic views of the city’s skyline.

The Best Tower of London Tours

Tower of London tours

© Historic Royal Palaces

Built as a fortress by William the Conqueror beginning in the 1070s, the UNESCO-listed Tower of London is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Once a palace for monarchs, a formidable state prison and a place of execution – where three of Henry VIII's wives, including Anne Boleyn, met their end – this imposing castle conceals more than 1,000 years of history across its different towers. Visit to learn more about its gruesome tales, and to admire the Crown Jewels, where glittering state crowns and other precious treasures sit beside the world-famous Koh-i-Noor diamond.

If you're looking to explore this impressive site with the insider knowledge of a local, consider booking a tour. We've rounded up some of the top tours, all of which have at least 100 reviews and a minimum rating of 4 out of 5 stars across multiple websites.

Editor's Pick: City Wonders – Best of London: Tower of London, Thames River Ride & Changing of the Guards

U.S. News independently paid to send Laura French , an award-winning British travel writer currently based in London, on this tour to provide readers with an unbiased, first-hand perspective of what to expect. City Wonders – Best of London: Tower of London, Thames River Ride & Changing of the Guards was selected by our team as an Editor's Pick thanks to its popularity and favorable user reviews.

Price: Adults from $98; kids from $92 Duration: 4 hours

This half-day, early-morning walking tour is ideal if you want to combine the Tower of London with other key London attractions ; as a bonus, you get early access to the tower, meaning you'll enter before it officially opens to the public.

We met our guide by the tower at 8:15 a.m. and got plenty of interesting information on its history before being led through to watch the opening ceremony (available as an upgrade). A resident, red-and-navy-clad beefeater (the tower's ceremonial guards) welcomed us with entertaining anecdotes, before the chief yeoman warder and others marched through the grounds to officially open the tower. We then had around an hour to explore; it was enough time to admire the Crown Jewels and its diamond-topped crowns, royal robes and gold chalices – as well as some of the other towers, several of which were still (happily) empty pre-10 a.m.

After exploring the tower, we boarded a Thames Clipper boat from the pier around the corner, passing several London landmarks – from London Bridge to The Shard, St. Paul's Cathedral to the "walkie-talkie" skyscraper (the Fenchurch Building). From Embankment Pier, we wandered through Whitehall to Horse Guards Parade, witnessing the Changing of The King's Life Guard; crowds gathered as mounted soldiers in red and gold lined the square. After a stroll along The Mall, the tour ended at Buckingham Palace . We took in the lavish grounds from the outside and found the perfect photo spot as our guide continued to regale us with more insightful tales.

City Wonders – Best of London: Tower of London, Thames River Ride & Changing of the Guards

Good to know:

  • On Sundays and Mondays, a Royal Westminster Walk is offered instead of the changing of the guard.
  • Prices vary by date, so play around with different options if you're flexible on when you can go.

Why we love it:

  • Getting early access to the Tower of London makes a difference – I've been to the tower twice before, but this was the best experience yet. There was no line for the Crown Jewels (waiting times can get long later in the day), and the whole area felt relatively calm and uncrowded.
  • It's a flexible tour, with the option to add on the opening ceremony when you book. Though it does cost extra, I recommend it if you want to experience one of London's many traditions. We learned about the history of the beefeaters and the daily Ceremony of the Keys, and were kept thoroughly entertained by the yeoman warder who greeted us.
  • Our guide was humorous, entertaining and brought the tour to life, sharing facts and stories about London's past and present that I (even as a local) didn't always know about – from historic facts at the Tower of London to a garage in Whitehall that was used as the Ministry of Magic in the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" movie.
  • The tour was a good length and the group wasn't too big (we had 19 in our group), so it felt like we saw and learned a lot without being overwhelmed.
