Scuffed World Tour was a Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational tournament intended to serve as a replacement for the cancelled Smash World Tour 2022 Championships . It was hosted by Ludwig on December 18th, 2022. The 8 players with the most points on the Smash World Tour 2022 standings for both games were invited. Ludwig also added "8 more players that we handpick for each game" [1] for a total of 16 players per game. [2] The 1 player with the highest amount of points in a Smash World Tour 2022 region in the overall Top 30 of the leaderboards was invited if not already qualified. [3] Any replacements for players who couldn't attend were handpicked. [4] The tournament was a double-elimination bracket, with both games running simultaneously. There was a pot prize of $50,000 ($25,000 for each game). The tournament raised $27,589.39 for VGBootCamp , who lost hundreds of thousands of dollars due to the cancellation of the Smash World Tour 2022 Championships, [5] and had to cancel major tournaments Glitch: Duel of Fates and Double Down 2023 in the process. Zain was qualified for Melee , but dropped out due to a family emergency. [7] SluG , a Top 15 player in Melee , could not make it to Scuffed World Tour or Redemption Rumble . [18]

Tea , a Top 10 Ultimate player from Japan that qualified for the Smash World Tour 2022 Championships in Ultimate , declined to take some time off. [19] Yoshidora , another top player in Japan that qualified for the Smash World Tour 2022 Championships in Ultimate , could not make it to any more overseas tournaments in 2022. [20] He had not attended an overseas tournament at the time due to having work and being married, and used his paid time off days for the planned days for the cancelled Smash World Tour 2022 Championships.

• The YouTuber Jacksepticeye 's Top of the Mornin Coffee sponsored the tournament. [21] [22]
• The tournament was going to overlap with the final day of the Panda Cup Finale before it was postponed.
• They also made Grand Finals at Mainstage 2022 , two weeks prior.
• This tournament was the first time MkLeo and Shuton faced in Ultimate outside of a weekly. Shuton maintained his perfect record against MkLeo by defeating him 3-0 in Losers Quarterfinals, making their overall record 3-0 Shuton's favor in sets and 9-0 in games.
• On November 22, 2023, Alan Bunney would claim on the podcast Lights Out that the Scuffed World Tour was the "final nail in the coffin" that canceled the Panda Cup and forced Panda to shut down. This tournament happening on the same day Panda Cup was supposed to happen put Panda in a position where they could not compete with it or any future tournament in the state they were in, forcing them to refund the reportedly millions of dollars worth of sponsorship money for not upholding their end of contracts. Bunney would emphasize that he does not blame Ludwig or the organizers for causing this situation, as they could not have known what was happening to Panda behind the scenes. [23]
• The tournament was the first with all of the Four Horsemen of Ultimate in attendance ( acola , Miya , Sonix , and Sparg0). They would be the Top 4 of the LumiRank 2023 season, which started the day after the tournament.

Today, we'll be seeing the grand unveiling of the Scuffed World Tour thanks to Ludwig Ahlgren stepping in at the last minute for the Super Smash Bros. scene.

After the unfortunate cancellation of the Smash World Tour 2022 circuit, fans can at least be happy that YouTuber Ludwig Ahlgren has their back.

Put together at the last minute, the Scuffed World Tour is an event put on by Ludwig which will feature 16 top players each for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Melee duking it out to put on a good show for Smash fans across the world.

Of course, it isn't just for show — $25,000 each are on the line for these two games, so the players will definitely be giving it their all in this one-day extravaganza to grab as much of that money as possible.

Scuffed World Tour  is a  Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament being held in Oakland , California at Golden Guardians Headquarters on December 18, 2022. After the cancellation of the Smash World Tour 2022 this tournament was created by famous streamer and youtuber Ludwig Ahgren for fans across the world. There was a pot prize of $50,000 ( $25,000 for each game) and all money raised by the event went to VGBootCamp .

Ludwig is back to save Smash from becoming scuffed after Smash World Tour cancelation

The guardian angel of the Super Smash Bros. community is back once again to save the day during a period of pure confusion. 

That’s right, Ludwig is hosting yet another event in the hopes of keeping a canceled tournament’s spirit alive and supporting those impacted by the sudden cancelation of the Smash World Tour earlier this week.

The Scuffed World Tour will be a one-day event featuring both Melee and Ultimate brackets made up of the top eight finishers from the now-canceled SWT lineup. And instead of just offering a prize pool, the goal of the event will be to raise money to support VGBootCamp—the organizers behind the SWT who are facing an uncertain future due to the cancelation. 

This event has likely been in the works since the SWT team first announced it would have to cease operations and cancel its 2022 Championship event after a last-minute decision from Nintendo was levied against them. But Ludwig and his team had to wait until more information was provided from the other parties—Nintendo and Panda—before making any official plans.

Now that both Nintendo and Panda have made full statements that, as Ludwig notes, were lackluster and provided no actual substance for the Smash community and the SWT team, the Scuffed World Tour is on and will run on Dec. 18. And if that date sounds familiar, it is because it is the same date as the Panda Cup Finale’s “championship Sunday.” That doesn’t seem like a coincidence.

For now, this means the following players will be getting an invite and flown out to compete. If anyone opts not to compete—like it appears Zain will—the next player with the highest point total will receive the invite. 

Most if not all of these players were supposed to attend both the SWT Championships and Panda Cup Finale. But a decent number of them have dropped out of Panda Cup in response to the cancelation of the SWT and the poor follow-up statements.

Online coaching platform Metafy has also offered to sponsor the event, and there might be additional opportunities for commentators and production staff who were supposed to work the SWT to chip in as well. We will likely hear more throughout the week from Ludwig and his team while they also prepare for the Mogul Chessboxing Championship .

Ludwig announces Smash invitational on same day as Panda Cup Finale

Ludwig “Ludwig” Ahgren announced Friday that he will host the Scuffed World Tour , a Super Smash Bros. invitational meant to replace the recently-canceled 2022 Smash World Tour Championships . Ludwig will host this event on December 18, the same day as the finals of the Panda Cup Finale.

If any of the above players cannot attend, Ludwig will instead invite the next highest-ranking person on each game’s respective Smash World Tour leaderboards. During the event, Ludwig will raise money for VGBootCamp, the tournament organization team behind the Smash World Tour.

More about Ludwig’s event and the Panda Cup

According to the Smash World Tour organizers, Nintendo declined to grant them a license for the 2022 Championships and told them it expected them not to operate a commercial tournament without a license. Nintendo put out a formal response in the middle of the night on Friday, claiming that it verbally informed the Smash World Tour organizers that they were not required to cancel their event.

A couple hours before Ludwig announced his tournament, Panda Global put out a statement responding to accusations that CEO Alan Bunney threatened that Nintendo would go after TOs who didn’t add their events to the Panda Cup. The organization sided with Nintendo and did not announce any disciplinary action for Bunney. Panda’s statement has been met with widespread criticism from the Smash community, including players and content creators sponsored by Panda.

Because of the Smash World Tour’s cancellation and Bunney’s alleged actions, multiple people have called for a boycott of the Panda Cup Finale. Nearly half of the invited Melee players have publicly announced their intention to drop out already.

Now, Ludwig has scheduled his own event as a likely protest of the Panda Cup. The Scuffed World Tour will take place one week after Ludwig’s Mogul Chessboxing Championship.
