2Cellos to End Their Final Tour in Arena Zagreb
Total Croatia News
Updated on: May 11, 2023
After ten years, six studio albums, hundreds of performances in iconic venues around the world and close to a million tickets sold, the globally acclaimed duo 2Cellos are about to retire the project that made them famous.
Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser have announced their long-awaited world tour will end with a final concert in Zagreb, reports Jutarnji list.
They’ll play the Arena Zagreb on September 19th, 2022. This is the last year that Šulić and Hauser will be performing together as 2Cellos.
The duo went on hiatus in 2018 and focused on solo projects for a while, only to be reunited by the pandemic which brought them together to work on new music . They released their sixth studio album ‘Dedicated’ in 2021.
‘This tour is the culmination of everything we’ve achieved as 2Cellos. These will be our most powerful shows, with the largest audiences. The two of us climbed a mountain and reached the peak of what we can do together. Everything we learned from playing together, we’ll put into this tour. The concerts will be intense, they’ll be fierce, they’ll be touching and emotional. We’ll give everything we can do to the audience – and then we can retire 2Cellos. Are you ready to celebrate that with us?’ asked Luka and Stjepan.
It wasn’t a coincidence that the European part of the tour ends in Zagreb. As the duo said, they started it all in Zagreb, and that’s where they wish for their story to end.
The announced show is an opportunity for all their fans in Croatia and the region to hear 2Cellos play live for the last time. And as they themselves stated, the tour will be loaded with energy and emotion like never before – and Zagreb gets the honour to see their final bow.
Tickets will be released on Eventim on Friday, March 4th with prices ranging from 230 to 1800 kuna.

Hauser: 2CELLOS star releases new solo dance album and world tour dates

Critically acclaimed Croatian cellist and founding member of 2CELLOS, Stjepan Hauser, has released a new full-length solo dance album titled THE PLAYER .
HAUSER brings his dazzling virtuosity to the world of Latin pop and jazz, unveiling new dimensions of the extraordinary musicality he originally displayed as part of 2CELLOS, who will play their last ever concert together later this year in New Zealand.
A bold departure from the quiet splendor of his 2020 solo debut Classic, a #1 hit on Billboard ’s Traditional Classical Albums chart, THE PLAYER arrives as HAUSER’s most re-inventive body of work to date.
“Because so much music is artificially made these days, I wanted to highlight real musicians while creating a unique sound that brings something new to each song,” says HAUSER . To that end, HAUSER shaped the album’s lush and brass-heavy arrangements with the help of producer Steven Mercurio (a conductor/composer who’s also worked with the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, Chick Corea, Andrea Bocelli and Sting), and enlisted the illustrious Czech National Symphony Orchestra for every track.
The stunning collaboration shines brightly in “Waka Waka,” the finale track to The Player , for which HAUSER debuts the colorful, dance-filled music video today. In a particularly brilliant twist, HAUSER blends the track’s triumphant brass, radiant strings, and wildly frenetic rhythms with the exultant harmonies of “Bongi Duma” (the same choir featured in Disney’s Lion King ). HAUSER’s rendition turns up the heat on Shakira’s Afropop-inspired 2010 banger.
“With ‘Waka Waka’ I wanted to take cultures from all around the world and bring them together in one song,” says HAUSER. “There’s so many different influences happening, and the choir adds so much spirit—it was an incredible moment of love and unity and absolute joy.”
Revered around the world for his captivating live performance, HAUSER has already hit the stage in over 40 countries across the planet (including historic venues like New York City’s Radio City Music Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall ) and performed alongside such wide-ranging acts as Andrea Bocelli , Red Hot Chili Peppers , and Elton John . He also performed at this year’s 79th Venice International Film Festival, opening the final evening’s awards and has even performed at the Vatican.
Other appearances include a wide range of TV shows such as The Bachelorette, Today Show, Good Morning America, Ellen, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert , CNN en Español , as well as sports broadcasts like the NFL and UEFA.
In August, HAUSER debuted a performance of the recent single “Let’s Get Loud” for The GRAMMY’s popular video series “ ReImagined At-Home .” The GRAMMY’s raved about the “opulent, fiery” performance and called it a “glammed-up dance party.” True to HAUSER’s committed intent to create a global dance party with his music, his take on “Let’s Get Loud” is yet another testament to his multifaceted artistry.
The success of HAUSER extends far beyond his ever-growing devoted fan base and many millions of social media followers. With more than three billion audio and video streams, the Croatian musician is a phenomenon that thrives on audience interaction.
HAUSER holds an intrinsic ability to unify and inspire generations of music lovers. “The cello has a universal language that everyone can understand,” he affirms. “I want to create music that brings us all together to celebrate the gift of music and the spice of life!”
HAUSER will also be touring.

Things To Do
Things to do | groundbreaking 2cellos duo says farewell with final tour.
As 2Cellos they’ve done all that — and more. But now their unlikely success story is coming to an end.
The duo’s current concert tour — joined, as usual, by drummer Dusan Kranjc — belatedly in support of 2021’s 10th anniversary album “Dedicated,” will also be its last. “We both have totally different lifestyles,” Hauser, 35, says by Zoom from Croatia. “Luka is more of a family man now — three children, a wife. For him it’s basically game over, you know” he adds with a laugh.
“And me, I am a little bit crazy, full of ideas, ambitions. I just want to keep going, keep conquering the world, playing everywhere, constantly moving around. So we have different approaches to life, and that’s why we thought it was best if we each go our own separate ways.”
But, Hauser assures us, the parting is amicable. “We’re bigger friends than ever now, actually. We understand each other now, completely.”
By the time 2Cellos takes its final bows some time later this year, Hauser and Sulic, 34, will certainly leave a formidable legacy.
They met as teenagers, both studying at the Academy of Music is Zagreb and later at different schools in England. Though cello wasn’t a favored instrument even in the classical world, they both liked it and felt a drive to not only play well but to bring cello the respect they felt it deserved. “Everyone would pick up violin or piano, guitar — everything was cooler than cello,” Hauser recalls. They also chafed under the “restrictions” of classical music; Hauser says he was frequently reprimanded for his showmanship and aggressive playing style that did not conform to traditional norms.
“We were young, full of energy and adrenalin and we felt a little bit limited by one type of music,” Hauser explains. “We wanted to make it feel young, and we wanted to feel like rock stars, ’cause we were young and rebellious and we wanted to feel this freed and do whatever we wanted to do.”
They started in 2011 with a version of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” which became a YouTube hit and netted the pair a recording contract with Sony Masterworks. 2Cellos’ self-titled debut album featured interpretations of songs by U2, Sting, Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana and more and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Classical Albums chart. The 2012 follow-up “In2ition” featured more pop covers and guest appearances by Elton John, rock guitarist Steve Vai and classical pianist Lang Lang. John also recruited 2Cellos to be part of his touring band during 2011-2013, appearing with him on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show and as part of his “The Red Piano” residency in Las Vegas.
“It’s crazy that we started as classical cellists, but it brought us to so many different directions, and the people we were able to collaborate with and meet and hang out with — it’s crazy,” Hauser says. “You never imagine you’re gonna end up in those circles as a cello player — touring with Elton John for three years, playing with Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, playing with George Michael, playing with Andrea Bocelli.
“All these different genres that have nothing to do with each other, and we experienced it all — that is the crazy part. Movie material, I would say.”
All told 2Cellos released six studio albums (an expanded edition of “Dedicated” came out earlier this year) and a live video while building an audience of 5.5 million YouTube subscribers. It’s also won three Porin awards (Croatia’s Grammys) and received a prestigious Order of Danica Hrvatska honor in their homeland. Hauser and Sulic have recorded commercials for the National Football League and Docomo mobile phones, and they performed the anthem for the 2018 UEFA Champion League soccer final in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Both have also worked independently during the past 12 years as well, and as they part ways Hauser in particular is ready to attack his solo career. He recently released a version of the theme from “Pirates of the Caribbean, accompanied by a video shot on a barge, joined by Hungarian dancers. He has a concept for his own live show as well as a solo recording, both of which he expects to release during 2023.
As he says, emphatically: “It’s Hauser time!” But he’ll also regard his time with 2Cellos fondly.
“I think we totally revolutionized the cello as an instrument,” he said. “We made the cello an arena-level act, selling out those places, which never really happened with that instrument. We explored so many genres…and we just showed to the world a cello is capable of absolutely everything, and we made kids go crazy for the cello. So we’re really happy with what we accomplished. It’s been insane.”
2Cellos and Matt Simons perform at 8 p.m. Monday, March 28 at Little Caesars Arena, Detroit. $49.50 and up. 313-471-7000 or 313Presents.com.

2Cellos are a classical crossover duo hailing from Zagreb, Croatia who formed in 2011. Since their debut in the same year, they have released three studio albums and are best known for their covers of artists like U2, AC/DC and, most famously, Michael Jackson.
2Cellos are what you get when the skill of classical music meets the passion of classic rock and pop. The duo are made up of two cellists, both of whom have received some of the best tuition in the world. Hailing from Slovenia originally, Luka Šulić attended Zagreb’s Academy of Music before going on to study in Vienna, and the Croatian native Stjepan Hauser studied at the Royal Academy Of Music and Trinity College in London. The two of them met at a master class in Croatia when they were teenagers and stayed in touch, mostly due to their shared passions for all forms of music, classical and mainstream. As they began hanging out together more and more, they began planning a project to cover mainstream pop songs on two cellos and nothing else.
Their first cover was Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”, so the duo filmed themselves playing their reworking of it and put it on YouTube in December 2010. Within three weeks the cover had been viewed three million times and their profile skyrocketed, leading to an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ show, a record contract with Sony Masterworks and a slot performing with Elton John’s band on his 2011 world tour. Ever since then the band have been one of the most popular classical crossover acts in recent memory, with their second album “In2ition” hitting number one in the Croation and Japanese album charts. They’re truly unique, and it’ll be a long time before we see their likes again, for that, they come highly recommended.

I only have one word for the 2cellos performance that I saw, incredible. The duo walked out onstage with their electronic cellos, and sat down humbly, before the lighting went down, and they launched straight into Thunderstruck. They are both incredibly talented musicians, and also wonderful performers. The way that they’re invested in their instruments, is like they’re an extension of their limbs, not an external object they’re playing. As well as their mastering of their instruments, they were putting their arms in the air to get the audience clapping along, and both cellists, and the incredible drummer performed solos throughout the performance.
Witnessing a classical instrument being played in an electronic version with strobe lights, a live drum kit, and projections of their videos behind them will definitely change your opinion of classical music, and the fine line between it and it’s place in popular culture. Both guys gave an incredible performance, and the way that Luca would leave his stool and dance, and lie on the floor with his instrument, rocking out to their cello rock music was incredible. They played a great selection of tracks from both their self titled album, and the newest LP, In2ition, which was incredible to hear live. They had the audience on board from start to finish, and it was hands down one of the best performances I’ve ever seen.

I was doubting if I would go or not to see 2Cellos. I got a first row ticket at Friedrichstadtpalast so I decided to go.
The concert was OK, not great. In fact, I went prepared to feel disappointed but not that bad. When some time ago the band went electronic, in my opinion, it lost what made them special and different: to play famous electric tunes with acoustic cellos.
Don't get me wrong, the sound was great and it was fun, and this guys are charming and talented players, but I could listen something like this from any busker on Mauerpark playing with an electric cello connected to a loophole.
And for that priced I paid (59eur, first row), it was disappointing that they used a pre-recorded string support, I could accept that from a cheaper concert, very understandable, and I know that they played before with a real support of string players, so for such high price I was expecting something at least similar, I could as well just bought the CDs. I will never go again to see them
Get show! There was a wonderful build of energy and incredible virtuosity. Their personalities keep the show fun and engaging. I was expecting them to have more of a band with them but in the end I didn't miss it. They do a masterful job of looping their cellos without you even noticing and the overall effect gives such a full sounds that you are certain there must be a multitude of other musicians behind the scenes. The lighting and video work took advantage of the large stage which otherwise could have felt a little bare with just two instruments. The addition of the drummer helped elevate the energy in the middle section of the show. My only slight complaint is that the show feels a little "macho" at times (for lack of a better word.) Perhaps a kickass feel male drummer would have helped that but regardless, it is a minor point. Lastly, the opener, Jon McLaughlin, was an awesome surprise. He is really talent and charming and kicked the show off perfectly.

2 cellos was the most amazing experience in classical/rock music I've ever experienced.
It was fun, beautiful, engaging, and relaxed.
They want people to feel relaxed, sing along. Clap, they engage their audience and have a lot of fun.
Best concert experience I have ever been too and I've been to a lot! I can't wait until they return next year.
I gave this as an 18th birthday present to my daughter. Her very first steps into a classical music venue. She absolutely loved it. She has a memory that will always carry with her.
Thank you so much to 2 cellos and their magnificent drum player for your ingenious talent.
Linda Scarpitti
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had an incredible experience at this concert, this was one of my biggest dreams come true! I got to stand right in front of the stage!!!! front and center. Close enough for Luka to reach down and hand me his bow hairs that he had shredded off from playing so fantastically. Stjepan was incredibly energetic, running around stage and making faces at everyone the whole time. The accompanying orchestra was amazing and played so elegantly while playing the movie scores. And the energy was just exciting the whole time. I am so glad I was able to experience this! Thank You 2Cellos! You are my idols!
The audience makes or breaks a show. In this case, the audience was older and not super into standing up, dancing around or clapping along when prompted. Despite low participation, they put on really high quality and moving show. Luka, the one in the right in the picture seemed to have less energy than usual but the other guy made up for it with his flirty banter. Overall, a good time but not the best show I've been to.
The show was great! The guys performed exemplary. The addition of a small strings ensemble was a great addition for the slow part.
The atmosphere was really hot! Throughout more than half of the concert everybody was standing, even though the venue had seats.
PS: Stjepan was acting a little bit weird at times (like a puppy in heat), but nothing exaggerate.
Very Awesome show. Our first time seeing them. Also love the Mann - they have a really good sound system.
2Cellos had a full backing band/orchestra - which gave them an over the top sound/show. Loved every song they played - even the ones that I did not know.
Wish they would have played bit longer..
Best show I've ever seen.
Energetic, moving, beautiful.
Where else could you see someone writhing on the stage playing a cello?
These guys are so good. Funny that the main thing that comes to mind is "original" even though their repertoire is songs of a diverse group of other musicians.
