Talking about your last vacation is a good topic to prove how much you have learned about the simple past.

Pay Careful attention to verbs in the past form since you will see lots of them. You will also see verbs in the present in some instances.

The verbs in the past forms will be in bold so it is easier for you to remember them.

Don’t think that those examples are hard to create, you just need to create simple sentences and in some instances provide more details.

Last year, I had the chance the amusement park, Zarcero, and Ciudad Quesada in a day. I wen t with my daughter, my wife, and some friends.

We woke up early that day and our friends drove us to the amusement park, my daughter enjoyed the many rides available, we ate pizza and we left around three.

Then we headed to San Carlos, on the way to San Carlos we stopped by the catholic church and took some pictures of ourselves in the gardens.

We got to San Carlos around 5:00 PM, we had dinner there, picked some people up, and headed home.

Last year I spent my vacation at the beach. I traveled with some friends of mine. We arrived at the beach at 8:00 AM, we immediately went swimming then we made some sandwiches for lunch.

After lunch, we went running and we left the beach before 6:00 PM.

We drove back to the hotel and we had dinner there. Around 9, we called our friends and we met outside a dance club because we wanted to dance.

We spent like three hours in the club and we got back to the hotel.

Last year, I went to Cartagena with my family and my best friend Luis. We visited my cousins Mayra and Alejandra. I hadn’t met them before, so I was really excited to meet them.

My first impression of them it was very good, they are friendly and fun. We went to visit many places but my favorite place was Barú island.

That island is amazing, it looks like a paradise, I took many pictures of every single we did.

The food was excellent. We ate shrimp rice and a shrimp cocktail. I had a great time with my family. We spent three amazing days in Cartagena.

Hello. I’d like to share with everybody the great time that I had on my last vacation. I went to Conchal Beach with my friends. We stayed at a small hotel right in front of the beach.

The first day we were there we took surfing lessons, my friends and I had so much fun hanging out at the beach.

There was another beach nearby, probably a five-minute walk and you are in Brasilito beach. We watched the sunset and we set a fire at night.

We did some touristy things too. We went to Tikal. Nature is amazing up there. We walked across the historic monuments.

Summer Camp

As the first day of my summer vacations started, I started getting bored easily. Mostly so because all my friends had gone to someplace or the other. My parents noticed this and decided to send me to a summer camp. Our school itself was organizing one in which my parents got me enrolled.

At first, I thought it would be of no use and would be equally boring. However, to my surprise, I was wrong. The summer camp was one of the best experiences of my life. I got the chance to indulge in so many activities and in fact, it was the first time where I discovered my talent for painting.

We got up early in the morning at 7 o’clock, despite no school. We had trainers who would teach us different things each day. On the first day, I got to learn karate, which was very amusing and helpful. Further, I learned how to play sports like basketball , table tennis, and volleyball.

Finally, came my most awaited part. We were taught painting and unique tips to master this art. I learned it quickly and started enjoying painting. My passion for painting began from this summer camp , and I will forever be indebted to it.

My Grandparents’ Place

After my summer camp ended, my whole family decided to visit my grandparent’s village . It is situated away from the city and is full of lush and greenery. I love spending time with my grandparents so I was very excited to visit their village.

We stayed there for over two weeks, and that throughout that time, I was at my best behavior. I used to get up at 7 o’clock in the morning to take a stroll with my grandfather. Then all the family members would get together to have breakfast full of healthy things and fresh fruits from the farm nearby.

In the evening, we would sit by our grandmother’s bed and listen to stories. Then, my siblings and I used to go to the terrace and play games. We would also gaze at their stars all night, as we did not get that in the city.

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
The rising action (the beginning of your story)

The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

We bought an embroidered kurta for dad and a sari for mom. After this, we headed back home and helped grandma with dinner. The next day we went with our grandpa to a farm, and he taught us various farming techniques, which was fun. We indulged in different activities each day.

This was one of the best trips where we had loads of fun and learned about Kutch’s culture and heritage. I am looking forward to more trips like these.

Waking up early in the mornings is a practice that most villagers follow. It keeps them healthy and makes their day more productive. So, all the people in the house are required to be awake by 6 in the morning, which initially seemed like a curse to us. My uncle owns a kitchen utensils shop; he opens it at 7 in the morning daily. He left for work before 7 am each day. Most people were seen heading for their work around the same time.

I spent my mornings in the kitchen with all the ladies of the house, doing preparations for breakfast and lunch. I also helped them clean up the house after the kitchen tasks. In the afternoon, my brother and I took a round of the village and delivered lunch at my uncle’s shop. The rest of the afternoon was spent in slumber after having a heavy diet and loads of gossip.

The evening time in the village was the time for which I waited with a lot of excitement. One evening we went to the village well where women went to fetch drinking water. It was great to see them balance the pots full of water and walk back in a row. But the main treat was to see the confidence and happiness on their faces. The village also encompassed a big playground that used to be full of kids during the evening hours.

Our aunt and uncle also took us to the farm to show us the beautiful process of growing and nurturing fruits and vegetables. Looking at the farmers putting so much effort into their harvest and faces during the harvesting time was a great sight.

I also went to one of the panchayats going on in the village under a banyan tree, where issues of the village were being solved by the elders of the village with the consent of all other people of the village. This is where I witnessed a small example of democracy.

The simplicity of life in the village is where its beauty lies. My visit to the village always teaches me compassion and love towards our family.

The summer season is mainly known for the heat waves and holidays we students get. It’s a great time for students to go for a stress-relieving trip and to be closer to nature, for which they don’t get time during their hectic schedule throughout the year.

Our family decided to go for a summer trip to a hill station this year. After a long discussion about which hill station to go for, we finally settled for Shimla.

Our Trip to Shimla

We all went there via road in our car and reached there in the morning. Then, we directly went to the hotel that we had already booked. Shimla has everything to lure the tourists, from lavish hotels to picturesque locations and mall roads to shopping streets full of people from different cultures.

We had planned the trip for 5 days. So in the evening of our first day of the trip, we went to the mall road and Jhaku hills which are known as the main tourist spots in the city. In the evening, many different activities are going on there. It was amazing to witness the nightlife of Shimla. We visited the Footloose Discotheque, full of vibrant people and buzzed with great music.

Our next day included traveling on the toy train. This toy train here runs from Kalka to Shimla. There are only 3 such trains in our country, and one of them is here. It’s an amusing experience to travel through them irrespective of the fact that they are slow. The evening was spent doing snow adventures such as skiing and bungee jumping.

The next days were spent visiting places near Shimla, such as Chail, Kufri, and Chitkul. These places can be visited for some snow adventure besides enjoying their beautiful scenic beauty.

Shimla is also a good treat for foodies like me. A bizarre thing about Shimla’s food is – that tiny diners or cafes are offering just fast food, a variety of teas and cold drinks, or fancy eateries that have overpriced alcohol on the menus – there is no ground in between. We had salami burgers at Beekays, which were delicious.

My First Foreign Trip

The year 2017 was my last academic session in school. So, before going to college, a complete family gateway to exotic lands was the gift I got from my family. I could not have asked for more. Our travel plan was a perfect mixture of fairy Disneyworld and glamorous Hong Kong and then to the multi-ethnic country island of Malaysia.

On the very next day, when my summer vacation began, I found myself at terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji airport, Mumbai, looking for my flight boarding pass and posting stories about it on my social media accounts. My parents, siblings, and cousins surrounded me. There was excitement on everyone’s face. Being a full extended family vacation with all my cousins, aunts, and uncles, it seemed super fun from the time we set out in cabs to the airport. It was not my first time being amidst the clouds, but it was my first international flight giving a magnificent view of the night lights of the complete city, and looking at that, I knew that this trip was going to be a one-of-a-kind experience for me.

Landing in Hong Kong, I was taken aback by the mere sight of their airport. I think they lived to the “first impression is the last impression.” I was amazed beyond imagination, but somewhere, I knew this was just the beginning. The first day at this beautiful place mainly consisted of exploring the streets of this breathtaking city, which was rich in fashion, food, tech, and everything that screamed modern and at the same time archaic in their way of life.

The next place we visited was what all of us had dreamed of visiting for a long. It was the mesmerizing Disneyland. The first thing that caught my attention was not the people around dressed in Disney characters or the marvelous expanse of the space and rides and shops but the castle at the far end – The Disney Castle. It was just spectacular. The very charm and enchantment of it knocked me out of breath. The fireworks at night after a complete parade show make you wonder if you had crossed a line and entered the fantasy world. It had been much more than I imagined, even in my make-believe.

The next was a traveling day as we moved to our next destination Malaysia. The City gateway was the complete opposite of where we came from. This city did not have many skyscrapers, but the beautifully spread horizontal city was rich in culture and diversity. The exquisiteness of mosques, museums, and heritage sites perfectly blend with the city’s modern lifestyle and layout. The hilltop parts of the country, like Genting Highlands, could be called heaven on earth. The beaches here offer a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate. I am glad we choose this as our last destination during this trip.

This has been one of the best holidays I have ever gone on. I saw so many beautiful places, had great experiences, and spent a lot of time with my loving family. My last summer vacation was indeed the best so far.

At Village with my Grandparents

The journey began on the next day of my summer vacation. My father made these arrangements well in advance, supposedly when I was preparing for my exams. When I came back home after writing my last exam, my mother and sister were already packing for the journey. Though I knew we would visit our grandparent’s village and stay there for a couple of days, I had no idea about the further planned trip.

The journey to the village was smooth. We started well ahead of the train’s arrival time and reached the platform before its arrival time. It is three hours of a train journey from my city to the grandparent’s village, passing through lush green agricultural fields and glimpses of village life.

When we got off the train, I saw my grandfather waving and walking toward us, accompanied by my cousins. After exchanging initial greetings, we walked towards our house a couple of kilometers from the station. Though there is a road to reach the house, we took rather secluded trails, passing through the fields.

Something is mesmerizing about an Indian villages ; the cool breeze, the peace and calm, the smell and sound of cattle, and the distant sound of a pumping set from the fields entices you and makes you cherish every passing moment.

The food, milk, and even water taste much better in the village than in the city. We stayed in the village for four days, during which I met many of my relatives, elders, and friends from the village. I even went to our family’s agricultural field and learned a few tips for farming. Four days passed quickly, and the day soon arrived when we had to move on a further journey. However, it appeared that a few surprises were waiting for me.

Trip to the Dudhwa National Park

When the day arrived, I was in for two surprises firstly, that we were going to “Dudhwa National Park” and secondly that my grandparents were also going with us.

Dudhwa tiger reserve is a protected area spanning over 1280 sq km in Uttar Pradesh. It stretches across the districts of Lakhimpur Kheri and Bahraich, sharing the northeastern boundary with Nepal.

We boarded the train to Bareilly from Varanasi, an unforgettable overnight journey spent with family and like-minded wildlife enthusiasts, traveling to the same destination as us. From Bareilly, we took a connecting train to Dudhwa, which is approximately a distance of 12 kilometers.

We reached the park in the evening and stayed in a simple yet comfortable resort, having all the comforts and basic amenities. The staff was accommodating, and the food was simply delicious. The resort was securely surrounded by forest on all s, use and was well guarded. We fell to sleep listening to the voices of jungle fowls and animals from a distance.

The next morning we all woke up early and got ready for the jungle safari. The forest deforests deforest department organized the safari in anth a guard and an experienced guide onboard. As soon as we entered the forest, we started seeing birds and animals, which we had only seen in books and television. Birds like Bengal Florican and great slaty woodpecker were a delight to watch. Different species of lizards were also seen crawling to cover.

As we progressed deeper, many species of deer- swamp deer, barasingha, and chital came into view. We were also lucky enough to spot barking deer, which is very difficult due to its shy nature. We were lucky enough to spot a tiger lurking in the bushes on our third and last day. With this last sighting, our journey ended, and we headed back home on the same evening.

Summer vacation is the best time in any student’s life. A month or more of a fun time at your disposal is nothing less than a blessing. There are several ways to spend a summer vacation, although we must spend it in such a way that we learn new things and gain new experiences. Also, take care not to harm or disregard anyone during your enjoyment.

W ell, last summer I went to S anto D omingo. we got there by plane . We took a plane there . A s soon as we got to santo domingo there , I decided to go to the beach. W hile I was swimming, a saw a big wave that was coming right to me, so I ran quickly back to the hotel quickly . T he next day, I coul d not go to swim swimming . In summer the weather is too hot in India and I also hail from Punjab which is located in the northern part of India. Punjab is a very hot state of my nation.

The people of north India usually go to hill stations such as Mussoorie, Dalhousie, Kullu Manali, Kasauli, Shimla, Rohtang, and other hill stations.

But here I would like to talk about my last summer vacation. Well last summer, I visited Shimla with my friends. I had heard much about this hill station. That time I was free from work and studies. I and my friends went there by train as well as we reached Shimla in 7to8 hours.

Then we went to the gold Star Hotel and we ate veg pizza. After that, we took rest in the rooms. Nearly 6 p.m. We went to the market and saw the sky there was always overcast with clouds. Cold Breeze was always blowing there.

Interestingly, the great Rush of tourists and visitors at the Mall and other fashionable places there in the evening. Then, visited the beauty and, Kufri and Jakhu temple. I felt greatly thrilled on seeing lush green tall pine trees and snowy peaks of mountains at a distance. The number of streams and springs delighted me the most.

Moreover, we went to the famous Italian pizza Hut and we tasted different sorts of pizzas. After it went to the local Park and we did snow activities such as riding skating as well as we made the house with snow. We also played with snow and we enjoyed ourselves a lot. The time I decided to visit Shimla every year.

Furthermore, I liked those vacations because at that time I enjoyed myself a lot with my friends as well as went to Shimla first time life. That was an amazing experience for me that’s why I always remember that holiday.

Well, holidays are very important they provide us an opportunity to relax. It also gives us a break from the monotonous and mundane routine. I also love to go on vacation whenever I get a chance. However here I would like to talk about Manali trip which I visited in the last summer vacation. As I belong to Haryana and temperature of my state reach approximately 45 degree Celsius in summer.

Last year, I remember that day it was 2nd June and the weather was too hot. Fortunately, on the time, I am free from my work so we planted to went Manali because the temperature of Himachal Pradesh was quite low as compared to other provinces.

I went there with my family and enjoyed a lot of activities there like shopping, photography, and water sport activities as well. Apart from that, I saw some nearby sight scenes for instance nature Garden, mall road, circuit House, temple and so on. Moreover, I clicked so many photographs of natural scenery .in other words, I captured the sunset and sunrise view in my digital camera.

whole the experience of this vocation was memorable for me because at that time I got a chance to spend quality of time with my family. Secondly, it was my first experience to do water activities there. I was really excited to do rafting with my family and it was amazing, to be honest.

Last but not least, I enjoyed paragliding, motorbike ride as well as Snow Skating in Solang valley. It was totally fun for me. I felt so refresh and regenerate myself after this trip. All in all, this trip leaves an incredible impression my mind and I love to go there again and again

Last summer I went to the village, I love the calm and I like to watch the beautiful landscapes. In the village we can enjoy the tranquility and the beautiful scenery. I used to get up early and watch the sunrise, a sight that I cannot see in my city, where the tall buildings. I also watch the birds above the trees, and they make beautiful sounds in preparation for flying to search for food.

Of course there is the experience of doing some handicrafts as well. I helped my relatives to work in one of the farms they own, which is dedicated to raising chickens. My job was to feed them and monitor the room temperature. That made me feel more responsible.

It made me appreciate the life I live and how my father provides us with all comfort means. Through this experience, I was able to feel that other people of my age suffer from a great lack of all the requirements of life.

Here’s how to salvage summer vacation, according to travel experts

There are still ways to plan a last-minute trip before school and office life returns

Most years, travelers make summer plans well in advance so they can fit in a getaway before life gets busy again in the fall.

But 2021 is not most years. Vaccinations in the United States only became widely available in the spring, some popular domestic destinations didn’t drop covid restrictions until last month, and global travel rules are shifting constantly.

That leaves vacationers without much time to fit in a trip before kids go back to school or adults return to the office. Many are scrambling to arrange last-minute trips, whenever and wherever they can over the next several weeks. And, of course, safety is still a top concern since the pandemic isn’t over.

“People definitely are raring to do something over the summer, and many didn’t plan as far ahead as we would normally recommend because they just didn’t know what was going to be happening,” D.C.-area travel adviser Sari Greene said.

Those who are venturing out while they still can are finding steep prices, limited lodging options, a dearth of rental cars and flight disruptions galore. So is it possible to scrape together a summer break? Experts say: Absolutely.

Travel was cheap when no one was traveling. That era is over.

Keep it close to home (just like last year)

Greene, an affiliate of Virtuoso agency Avenue Two Travel, said she has been helping clients plan two- to three-day driving trips close to home. Without having to worry about flying or rental cars, it is easier to plan at the last minute and go whenever a hotel has availability.

“People have so much more flexibility if they don’t have to get that flight, and they can go anytime,” she said.

Or go very far away

With many countries in Europe opening to Americans recently, the crowds are expected to be far smaller than in a typical summer — with prices following suit. Experts say international airfare is the only category of travel that isn’t more expensive this year than last.

Mike Salvadore, owner of 58 Stars Travel , said deals in places such as Italy should still be available this summer.

“I would call Europe definitely an under-the-radar opportunity that they can explore, especially this year,” he said. “Because next summer is going to be very busy.”

Summer trips all booked up? Don’t forget about the big cities.

Consider big cities

Metropolises such as New York City, D.C., Los Angeles and Chicago — which normally welcome domestic tourists, business travelers and international visitors — have a lot of hotel rooms and only a fraction of the visitors they would see in a typical year. Many of these destinations are putting on big events, running ads and otherwise trying to entice more tourists this season.

Think ski towns, but for summer

Greene said she has been able to find options for clients in places that would normally beckon in winter, including Colorado and Vermont. She is planning her own family vacation in August in Vermont — which, she said, would normally have never been a summer option. One additional item in Vermont’s favor: More than 82 percent of residents over the age of 12 have at least started their covid-19 vaccination.

Be flexible

Make plans around what is available, rather than try to stick to a specific date or destination. Caroline Teel, managing editor of SmarterTravel , said in an email that travelers looking for inspiration can go to Skyscanner and enter “everywhere” as their destination to find deals on flights.

Gamble on weather

Summer means hurricane season and a lot of potential weather disruptions. But for travelers willing to take the risk, there can be last-minute deals to offseason destinations including Cancún, Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands, Teel said. (In this case, travel insurance would be wise; policies need to be purchased before a storm is named.)

According to travel booking app Hopper, Florida — another destination at the mercy of tropical weather — is also the cheapest place to go domestically when considering hotels and airfare. Orlando, Fort Myers and Tampa are also among the cheapest domestic destinations.

Expect to pay a premium

Last-minute travelers this summer are joined by those who were bumped from plans in 2020 and earlier this year. That is part of the reason prices are higher than last year — and in a few cases, higher than even pre-pandemic times.

“We have some people that come in and think they’re going to get a champagne trip on a beer budget, and they realize it’s going to be a champagne price these days,” said Mike King, owner of a Travel Leaders agency in Fredericksburg, Va. “There’s very few of what they think are going to be deals.”

Get creative with flights

Consider booking your outgoing and departing flights with different airlines in case that presents cheaper options, said Mark Crossey, U.S. travel expert for Skyscanner. He said travelers should also search multiple dates and airports, set up price alerts, and look at options for a whole month to see when the fares are lowest.

In a roundup of “new normal travel booking tips,” Hopper said that because prices spike in the couple of weeks before a flight leaves, it’s best to lock a ticket in no later than three weeks ahead of departure.

Flights in the middle of the week are typically cheapest, with return dates on a weekend most expensive, Hopper says. Traveling in late summer or early fall could save on average about 12 percent.

Given the recent rash of delays and cancellations, Hopper said it is also wise to build extra time into plans, especially if there is a can’t-miss special event on the agenda.

The newest status on cruise ships: Being vaccinated

Cruises have started departing from the United States again, but the number is still small and capacity is reduced. That means choices are limited and discounts are scarce, said Chris Gray Faust, managing editor of Cruise Critic .

But, she said, there are deals for those who are vaccinated and don’t mind flying to get on ships in places including the Bahamas and St. Maarten.

“There is plenty of availability right now and, for some, airfare from the continental U.S. to the Bahamas is comparable to what they would pay to fly to Florida for a cruise,” Gray Faust said in an email. Looking ahead, she said, cruises from the United States could be a better deal in the fall as operators have more and fuller ships sailing.

Think broadly about rental cars — and book early

Adit Damodaran, an economist at Hopper, said in an email that the best approach is to avoid trying to rent a car in popular places such as Los Angeles, Orlando, Las Vegas and Miami since demand is high and availability is low.

“If you can look slightly outside the city or at a less popular airport,” like Fort Lauderdale instead of Miami, he said, “you might find more availability and better prices.”

Experts also say travelers should book a rental car as soon as they book a flight. Even if it doesn’t help with the price, booking as far ahead of time as possible will increase the chance that a car will be available.

Plan ahead for every part of the trip

Greene said she is emphasizing to her clients that they need to book dinner reservations and activities ahead of time.

“Those kinds of things are filling up like crazy, like we’ve never seen before,” she said. “Those are things that can be really disappointing when you arrive.”
