Mullen reveals more specs and test-drive tour dates for electric SUV crossover

US Nasdaq-listed EV start-up Mullen Automotive has revealed some more of the specs of its ultra-high-performance electric sport crossover the Five RS, ahead of the launch later this month of its “strikingly different” test-drive tour around the US.

What we already knew about the Mullen Five was that it is a sleek looking SUV crossover with an estimated range of 525km, a 95kWh battery pack and a price tag starting at $US55,000 ($A80,000). It’s available for pre-order on the company’s website for a $US100 deposit.

What we didn’t know until mid-way through last month, is that it will boast a top, face-melting speed of 200 mph – or 321km/h – and acceleration from 0-100km/h in 1.9 seconds.

Mullen also revealed that the Five RS will be equipped with 800-volt architecture, all-wheel drive, a two-speed gearbox, and  1,100 horsepower.

The website says the EV can fast charge from 0 to 80% (260 miles of range) in just 21 minutes.

“The Mullen Five RS is an extremely high-performance EV and intended for those who especially enjoy track/high-performance driving,” said Calin Popa, president of Mullen Automotive.

“The Five RS is intended to be one of the fastest vehicles on the planet, competing with some of the best and most well-known and regarded automotive marques,” said Mullen Automotive CEO and chair, said David Michery.

Mullen is embarking this month on its first leg of the “Strikingly Different” US test-drive tour, starting in California on October 27 and 28 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

From there, the US tour will move on to Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 10 and 11 at the world-famous Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and then on to Texas and Tennessee.

Fascinatingly, Mullen says here that due to the high-powered capabilities of the Five RS, consumers will not be allowed to test drive the vehicle directly at this stage.

Rather, Mullen will offer potential customers a ride alongside a professional IndyCar race car driver, “providing an up-close and personal experience in one of the fastest vehicles available globally.”

This strikingly different offer is only open to “front row” reservation holders, though, so you’ll need to make that $100 deposit.

As The Driven reported in July, Mullen Automotive has filed more than 130 patents in 24 countries, including Australia, for its Mullen Five.

What this means for Australia is not clear, but Michery did say this : “We fully intend to make the Mullen Five available around the world, and these patents, including filings in 24 international countries, show our intended commitment to do so.”

Mullen Automotive announced on Tuesday morning an upcoming 19-city national test drive tour for the Mullen FIVE starting in October. As part of its tour, Mullen will make stops across the U.S to provide FIVE reservation holders with the opportunity to test drive and experience the new Mullen FIVE EV Crossover in person.

Over the course of six weeks, starting in October, Mullen will embark on the 19-city test drive tour across the U.S. Mullen will conduct a two-day event in each city for reservation holders to test drive and experience the Mullen FIVE in person. As the test drives will be conducted on closed circuits or racetracks, the event will be limited to a set number of drivers per day.

The tour will start in Mullen’s home base, Southern California, and will cover major U.S. cities including: Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Houston, Dallas, Memphis, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco.

The company announced on Monday the filing of its ATVM loan application for the Mullen ONE EV Cargo Van Program with the U.S. Department of Energy. The application was filed on April 29, 2022. Mullen submitted its prequalification on April 25, and was invited by the Department of Energy to formally submit its loan application on April 29, 2022. Mullen submitted the loan application on April 29 at approximately 1:55 p.m. Pacific time.

Mullen recently teased via Twitter its Van production ahead of the first deliveries in Q2 2022, as announced by Mullen’s CEO on March 30. At the time, David Michery unveiled that a Fortune500 company is going to buy “a lot of these vehicles” with the official press release expected during the next weeks.

Last week, Mullen posted a new job vacancy on Indeed Platform looking for an Investor Relations Associate . The position is based in Brea, California, and the candidate will be responsible for engagement with the investing public, shareholders and financial professionals, the company said.

Mullen reached on April its highest level of Institutional Owners with 58 shareholders owning a total of 1,332,751 shares. Among the largest shareholders there’s: Cutler Group LP, Cetera Advisor Networks LLC, BlackRock Inc., Vanguard Group Inc, Cutler Group LP, Belvedere Trading LLC, and VTSMX.

According to a SEC form filed last week, Mullen ‘s CFO Kerri Sadler was gifted a total of 4,000 shares from April 7 to April 22 . Previously, on January 18, Sadler had directly acquired 300,000 shares having now a total of 306,174 valued at $425,500 based on the last closing price. The filing reveals that Sadler was gifted with 2,000 shares on April 7, 1,000 two days later and another 1,000 on April 22, 2022.

Recently, also Mullen ‘s President of Automotive Division accquired 100,000 shares on April 8. Mullen’s President Calin Popa owns now a total of 159,729 Mullen shares. Popa’s transaction nature was Type A — Grant, award or other under Rule 16b-3(d) and represents a direct ownership.

Recently, the company announced the solid-state polymer battery testing with the Battery Innovation Center (BIC) in Indiana . BIC is focused on the rapid development, testing and commercialization of safe, reliable and lightweight energy storage systems for defense and commercial customers.

Preparation

What do I bring?

You will need to present your confirmation email with the QR code and order number, your driver’s license, and your signed waiver.

Note: International licenses are accepted. We will not accept a driver’s permit, passport, or picture of your driver’s license.

Can I bring a passenger?

YES, you can bing a passenger for the Open Road Experience.

What happens if it rains?

We drive in the rain unless its too heavy/dangerous. You’ll receive a text or email alert postponing your experience. After all, ideal conditions make for a safe and exhilarating drive!

Who can do this experience?

Anyone who wants to experience the thrill of 500+ horsepower and blistering acceleration should do this experience! Since our supercars are equipped with automatic transmissions, you don’t need to know how to drive a manual!

What is the minimum age?

Open Road Experience is for drivers 25 or older.

How many laps do I get?

You get to test your driving expertise for 3-4 laps, depending on the racetrack! The same amount of laps also applies to ride-alongs.

How fast can I go?

This experience will have you driving at racetrack-level speeds. You will have the opportunity to hit 100 to 160 mph before needing to slow down to enter a turn!

Do keep in mind that all rules of the road and designated speed limits must be followed during your tour.

How long will I be at the track?

Plan to be at the track for up to 2 hours. Adding lead-car rides or driving three or more cars can extend your time. Your time from arrival time includes check-in, classroom briefing, pit prep time, drive time, and check out. Before or after your xperience, you’re welcome to hang out as long as you’d like!

Are the cars manual or automatic?

To accomplish our mission of being able to put anyone in a supercar, all the cars in our fleet are equipped with automatic transmissions. Although each of the cars have paddle shifters, we prefer you allow the incredibly intelligent and capable, double clutch sequential transmission shift for you.

Are the cars limited or governed?

Absolutely not! The cars you drive at Xtreme Xperience are just like you’d get from the dealership. In fact, some of our cars are tuned and have aftermarket modifications to make them even faster than stock. We also run the cars in ‘Sport’ or ‘Race’ mode to help improve the car’s performance.

Do I need to have my own insurance for an Open Road xperience?

Yes. Drivers must have car insurance, be 25 years old at the time of their driving experience, and have a valid Driver’s License. Open Road vehicles are available to Drivers with a valid state driver’s license, a good driving record with no major violations, and who carry a form of full coverage insurance (liability, comprehensive, and collision) with a minimum coverage of $100,000 Property Damage & $100,000 Bodily Injury liability.

Do you offer payment plans?

• Your reservation is viewed as a “ticket” because we are holding a car, space, and time for you. Think of how a baseball stadium sells tickets to book their seats. Just as they try to book up all the seats, we do the same. If you cancel your reservation, that is a seat that could have been given to someone else. All reservations/bookings come with our 7-DAY REFUND GUARANTEE. Within 7 calendar days of purchase, you may receive a refund, minus a 5% bank processing fee. Refunds are not provided after 7 calendar days; non-negotiable. Vouchers, gift cards, and presale tickets are NOT refundable; all sales are final.

Want to test drive a lucid air here’s your chance during a 40-plus city ‘dream ahead tour’.

It has now been close to two years since Lucid Motors began rolling its flagship Air sedan off its assembly lines. We were lucky enough to attend Lucid’s launch event and got to test drive the Dream Edition Air. However, even as Lucid’s footprint grows in the US, many consumers have not even seen an Air up close, let alone driven one. Beginning this month, Lucid Group is going on tour with the Air to give US consumers a chance to experience it for themselves.

Lucid Motors ($LCID) entered 2023 following a promising fourth quarter , relaying enough liquidity to operate through 2024. With all versions of its flagship Air sedan in production, the American EV automaker remains focused on expanding its AMP-1 footprint in Arizona to support the incoming assembly of its second model – the Gravity SUV .

At the same time, Lucid continues to expand its network of showrooms called Studios, offering consumers in major cities a closer look at its EVs alongside the opportunity for test drives. Lucid’s current presence of 31 Studio locations in North America is nice, but not nearly a large enough net to engage with a majority of US consumers – especially those outside of major metropolitan areas.

To combat this, Lucid is hitting the road across the US with the “Dream Ahead Tour,” offering test drives of the Air sedan in tons of cities where it has yet to set up shop. Here’s the current schedule.

Lucid kicks off its “Dream Ahead” test drive tour today

Per Lucid Group, its 40+ city tour begins at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Florida, today and will continue into November of this year.

Lucid states the 2023 Dream Ahead Tour has been designed as an opportunity to showcase the Air’s industry-leading performance to consumers across the US who likely have not had the chance to experience it yet.

When the tour comes to each given city listed above, consumers will have the opportunity to test drive a number of different Lucid Air models, including the 516-mile range Grand Touring.

In addition to the scheduled tour stops, Lucid shared plans for Studio pop-ups across the US as well. That will begin later this month at the Houston Galleria in Texas. Keep an eye out for the Dream Ahead Tour, and if it comes to a city near you, we definitely recommend taking a Lucid Air for a test drive.
