We recommend using a jacket with a hood made of Gortex or similar fabric, and advise against bringing pac-a-macs or ponchos.) • Sleeping bag (required) (Please bring your own sleeping bag for use in the mountain refuges.) • Sleeping bag liner/sleep sheet (required) (Cotton or silk liners are essential to use at the refuges.) • Clothing (We recommend bringing 1 outfit to wear during the evenings and days off, preferably lightweight top and bottoms.) • Fleece jacket or warm layer • Gloves (We recommend packing warm gloves in case of cold and wet weather.) • Hat (For cool weather, a warm beanie is most appropriate. For sunny weather, a wide brimmed hat or cap. We recommend preparing for both weather conditions.) • Hiking boots (We recommend hiking boots instead of hiking shoes, as boots provide better ankle support on rough terrain and protection from snow early in the season.) • Hiking pants (Convertible/Zip-off and quick dry recommended. We recommend 2 pairs of trousers, and 1 pair of shorts.) • Lightweight wicking shirts • Long-sleeved shirt for hiking • Pack liners to waterproof bags (A rucksack liner or large Ziploc bags/dry bag(s) to keep clothes and equipment dry inside your backpack in case of rain.) • Quick-dry socks (Trekking socks (woollen or synthetic, not cotton). We recommend packing 2-3 pairs.) • Shoes/sandals (Sport sandals, flip-flops or light sneakers to wear at the refuges is optional, as most refuges have crocs available to wear during your stay.) • Snacks (Protein bars, chocolate, dried fruits, candies, energy sweets. You will be able to purchase these along the way.) • Thermal base layer (Woollen or synthetic, not cotton.) Note: This is a mountain trek going up to over 2500m/8000ft, therefore it is important that hikers are prepared for changing weather conditions (especially in the June and September). When choosing your gear please bear in mind that the best clothing for trekking is either wool or synthetic materials, as these are quick-drying and can keep heat in better. The optimum clothing system for trekking is layering, as it allows for easy temperature regulation as you ascend or descend. We suggest a base-layer, then a mid-layer such as a sweater, followed by a fleece jacket or similar, then a windproof and waterproof jacket. For your bottom half, thermal underwear, hiking pants then windproof and waterproof layers are recommended. Hiking poles are strongly recommended, especially for departures in June and early in the season. Hiking gear is not available for rent in Chamonix. If you require additional items (poles, rain gear etc.) it may be purchased.

What to Take

Please note that this trip is rated Physical Grade 5 and is a backpacking trekking trip from start to finish. Passengers are required to carry their own packs and there are no support vehicles. It is possible to leave some gear at the hotel in Chamonix as the trip begins and ends here. Night stops and routes may vary depending on weather conditions, daily group progress and availability. Flexibility is very important. Please see the equipment list for essential information on what to take. You may leave some extra gear or a piece of luggage at the start hotel and get it back on Day 10 at the end of the trip (check with your CEO or hotel front desk about the luggage storage policy).

A Couple of Rules

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for our travellers. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular the local people who make the world the special place it is. The exploitation of people in the sex trade is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they utilize the services of paid sex workers, in any capacity.

After your travels, we want to hear from you! Your feedback information is so important to us that we'll give you 5% off the price of your next G Adventures trip if your feedback is completed on-line within 30 days of finishing your trip. Your tour evaluation will be e-mailed to you 24 hours after the conclusion of your trip. If you do not receive the tour evaluation link in the days after your tour has finished, please drop us a line at [email protected] and we will send it on to you.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your CEO, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy please bear in mind that all clients must have medical coverage and that we require a minimum coverage of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name. Contact your bank for details of their participating insurer, the level of coverage and emergency contact telephone number.

Visas and Entry Requirements

Contact your local embassy or consulate for the most up-to-date visa requirements, or see your travel agent. It is your responsibility to have the correct travel documentation. While we provide the following information in good faith, it is vital that you check yourself and understand that you are fully responsible for your own visa requirements. All visitors to the EU (European Union) and EEC (European Economic Community) countries require a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity). USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand passport holders do not need a visa to visit the Schengen area (see below), however they may not stay longer than three months in any 6-month period. For other nationalities, travelling in Europe has been simplified with the introduction of the Schengen visa. As a visitor to the Schengen area (Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Portugal, Finland, Italy, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Sweden, Czech Republic, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland) you will enjoy the many advantages of this unified visa system. Generally speaking with a Schengen visa, you may enter one Schengen country and travel freely throughout the Schengen region during the validity of your visa. There are limited border controls at Schengen borders, if any at all. Please note that the UK and Ireland are NOT part of the Schengen agreement. A Schengen visa is applied for at the Embassy or Consulate of the Schengen country in which you will be spending the most nights on your trip to the Schengen space. If you are only visiting one country on your trip then you apply for your visa at the Consulate of this Schengen country.

Itinerary Notes

Looking to book an arrival transfer from the Geneva Airport to your joining hotel in Chamonix? See the "Joining Instructions" section of the Tour Details page for more information. Please note that all recorded trekking durations and altitudes are approximations. There may be variations on this itinerary, depending on season & weather conditions. Our expert CEOs will always put your safety first and in extreme cases of heavy rain, storms or snow, they may cancel a day's activity at their discretion. An alternative will be offered where possible to do so. On this trip, all travellers are required to carry their own gear. We recommend using a hiking pack (40L max. capacity), see the "Packing List" under Tour details for more information.

Minimum Age

Group leader description.

This G Adventures group trip is accompanied by one of our Chief Experience Officers (CEOs). The aim of the CEO is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. They will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. The CEO will accompany you on the treks; however, there are up to 12 people in a group and the trip is self-supported, there are no luggage transport, porters or guides. Therefore it is important that you are a fit and confident walker over mountain terrain, able to manage ascents and descents and cross streams by yourself. On Mont Blanc, we employ the services of fully-trained International Mountain Leaders (IML). The IML qualification requires significant international trekking experience followed by 3 weeks of training and assessment in the Alps in both summer and winter conditions. The training includes avalanche awareness, dealing with altitude sickness, being aware of the surrounding elements and an understanding of physiology. With experienced IMLs guiding you on your trek, you are guaranteed the best possible experience whilst in the mountains.

Eating is a big part of traveling. Travelling with G Adventures you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. The above information applies to G Adventures group trips. For all trips please refer to the meals included and budget information for included meals and meal budgets. For the hiking portion of this tour, meal options are limited to those available in the refuges that we stop in along the way. Here, you will enjoy delicious food made with local ingredients.

Please note inoculations may be required for the country visited. It is your responsibility to consult with your travel doctor for up to date medical travel information well before departure. You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information well before departure. We recommend that you carry a First Aid kit and hand sanitizers / antibacterial wipes as well as any personal medical requirements. Please be aware that quite often we are in remote areas and away from medical facilities, and for legal reasons our leaders are prohibited from administering any type of drug including headache tablets, antibiotics, etc. When selecting your trip please carefully read the brochure and itinerary and assess your ability to cope with our style of travel. Please refer to the Physical and Culture Shock ratings for trip specific information. G Adventures reserves the right to exclude any traveller from all or part of a trip without refund if in the reasonable opinion of our CEO they are unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group. Please note your Adventure travels to high altitude. This is medically defined as anything over 8,000 feet (2,440 meters). Most people can travel to 8,000 feet with minimal effects. However, everyone reacts to altitude differently and altitude sickness can on set with some people irrespective of fitness and age. For details on how to best prepare and what to do in the unlikely event you are effected on your Adventure, please consult your physician.

International Flights

Check-in times and baggage allowances/restrictions vary by airline and can change at any time. For the most up-to-date information for your flight, please contact your airline. We recommend checking in online in advance to avoid potential delays at the airport.

About Accommodation

Note that most accommodation in Europe does not have air conditioning units in rooms. Air conditioning is not routinely installed in European homes and workplaces. However, nearly all hotels will provide a standing or desk fan for your room on hot nights. If you do not already have one in your room, please ask your CEO to organize one for you with reception. As this trip has a "Basic" Service Level grading, and uses mountain refuges, some accommodation on this tour is multi-share. This may involve 3-4 group members sharing and often in the mountain gites dormitory style rooms for the whole group. Rooms will not be en-suite and will have shared bathroom facilities. We will be staying at a mixture of mountain refuges and small local hotels on this trip. Most nights will be multi-share and with basic, shared facilities.

Solo Travellers

We believe single travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip. Some of our Independent trips are designed differently and single travellers on these itineraries must pay the single trip price.

Joining Hotel

For details of your joining hotel please refer to your tour voucher, G Account, the G Adventures App or contact your travel agent.

Money Exchange

France and Italy are in the Eurozone and the unit of the currency is the Euro. Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc (CHF) however euros are very widely accepted and you should have no problem making any cash purchases in Euros. Credit cards and debit cards are very useful for cash advances but you must remember to bring your PIN number (be aware that many ATM machines only accept 4-digit PINs). Both Cirrus and Plus system cards are the most widely accepted debit cards. Visa cards are the most widely accepted credit cards. While ATMs are commonly available, there are no guarantees that your credit or debit cards will actually work in France, Italy or Switzerland. You should be aware when purchasing products or services on a credit card, that a fee usually applies. Do not rely on credit or debit cards as your only source of money. A combination of Euros, traveller’s cheques and cards is best. Avoid relying on traveller's cheques alone as these are less and less readily cashed as clients use them very little. Always take more rather than less, as you don't want to spoil the trip by constantly feeling short of funds. As currency exchange rates can fluctuate often we ask that you refer to the following website for daily exchange rates: www.xe.com

Optional Activities

Courmayeur - Cable Car Ride to Pointe Helbronner (52EUR per person) - Spa Centre of Pré St Didier (50EUR per person) - Rafting (30-95EUR per person) Aosta - Aosta Visit (7EUR per person)

Safety and Security

Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your government's advice for their latest travel information before departure. We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safe keeping of your passport, air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items. Leave your valuable jewellery at home - you won't need it while travelling. Many of the hotels we use have safety deposit boxes, which is the most secure way of storing your valuables. A lock is recommended for securing your luggage. When travelling on a group trip, please note that your CEO has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the trip itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Your CEO will accompany you on all included activities. During your trip you will have some free time to pursue your own interests, relax and take it easy or explore at your leisure. While your CEO will assist you with options available in a given location please note that any optional activities you undertake are not part of your itinerary, and we offer no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running them. Please use your own good judgment when selecting an activity in your free time. Although the cities visited on tour are generally safe during the day, there can be risks to wandering throughout any major city at night. It is our recommendation to stay in small groups and to take taxis to and from restaurants, or during night time excursions. Protests and Demonstrations- Protests and demonstrations, even those that are well intended, have the potential to turn violent with no warning. Counter protests can also turn violent. Action by security forces to disperse demonstrators and protesters may occur at any time. If you are in an area where demonstrators or protesters are gathering, avoid the temptation of staying for a good photo opportunity and leave the area immediately. Water based activities have an element of danger and excitement built into them. We recommend only participating in water based activities when accompanied by a guide(s). We make every reasonable effort to ensure the fun and adventurous element of any water based activities (in countries with varying degrees of operating standards) have a balanced approach to safety. It is our policy not to allow our CEOs to make arrangements on your behalf for water based activities that are not accompanied by guide(s). Swimming, including snorkeling, is always at your own risk. We take all prudent measures in relation to your safety. For ways to further enhance your personal safety while traveling, please visit: www.gadventures.com/travel-resources/safety/

Your Welcome Moment: Meet Your CEO and Group. Challenging mountain hikes led by an International Mountain Leader (IML) (8 days). All transport between destinations and to/from included activities.

Planeterra Foundation - the non-profit partner of G Adventures

Planeterra connects underserved local communities to the benefits of tourism by developing and supporting small community-owned businesses. These businesses support Indigenous people, empower women, grant youth access to employment opportunities, and protect the environment. Planeterra also works to ensure these businesses have a thriving customer base by integrating their projects into G Adventures’ itineraries globally. G Adventures is Planeterra’s largest corporate donor, covering all operating costs, so 100% of your donation will bring opportunity to people in need. G Adventures Dollar-a-day Program - Make Every Day Count - Turn your travel into impact with Planeterra Foundation . Did you know? Most communities around the world do not benefit from tourism. Give back to the places you visit on your travels by creating opportunities for local people to earn an income, and protect the environment. Make every day count by donating $1/day for the length of your trip, and join us in empowering the communities you will visit when you travel. 100% of your donation goes directly to Planeterra projects.

Laundry facilities are offered by some of our hotels for a charge or ask your CEO where the closest laundromat is. There will be times when you may want to or have to do your own laundry so we suggest you bring non-polluting/biodegradable soap.

Itinerary Disclaimer

While it is our intention to adhere to the route described below, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations. The itinerary is brief, as we never know exactly where our journey will take us. Due to our style of travel and the regions we visit, travel can be unpredictable. The Trip Details document is a general guide to the tour and region and any mention of specific destinations or wildlife is by no means a guarantee that they will be visited or encountered. Aboard expedition trips visits to research stations depend on final permission. Additionally, any travel times listed are approximations only and subject to vary due to local circumstances.

Spending Money

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.

Finishing Point Instructions

We recommend you book your departure shuttle to Geneva airport, as per the joining point instructions, in advance. See details above.

Group Size Notes

Max 12, avg 10

While conventions can vary from country to country, tipping is customary in Europe. A general rule is 10% of the bill for wait staff, and a smaller amount (€1 or €2) for other service providers. Tipping is an expected - though not compulsory - component of your tour program, and an expression of satisfaction with the persons who have assisted you on your tour. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. There are several times during the trip where there is opportunity to tip the local guides. You may do this individually, or your CEO will offer to collect the money and tip as a group. Recommendations for tipping local guides would range from €3-5 per day, depending on the quality and length of the service; ask your CEO for specific recommendations based on the circumstances and culture. At the end of each trip, if you felt your G Adventures CEO did an outstanding job, tipping is expected and appreciated. The precise amount is a personal preference, however €30-€40 per person, per week can be used as a guideline.

Arrival Complications

We don't expect any problems, and nor should you, but if for any reason you are unable to commence your trip as scheduled, as soon as possible please contact your starting point hotel, requesting that you speak to or leave a message for your CEO. If you are unable to get in touch with your leader, please refer to our emergency contact details.

Group Leader

Qualified International Mountain Leader as CEO throughout.

Important Notes

1. Please see the equipment list for essential information on what to take 2. Please note that this trip travels through remote and rugged Alpine terrain. Extremes of heat and cold may be encountered and the route involves some long and demanding trekking days carrying all your own gear. The CEO will accompany you on the treks; however, there are up to 12 people in a group and the trip is self-supported. There are no luggage transport, porters or guides. Therefore it is important that you are a fit and confident walker over mountain terrain, able to manage ascents and descents and cross streams by yourself. Please realistically self-assess your fitness and suitability for this trip. Please note that on most days there is no possibility of continuing by public transport; taxis may sometimes be possible if you are not able to continue walking but these cannot be guaranteed and will be at your own expense

How long has the tour company been trading?

G Adventures was established in 1990

Do you operate a “single share” option and how does it work?

Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin share basis and, if travelling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another G Adventures traveller of the same sex. Some tours have an optional single supplement. An optional service that may be available is called "My Own Room". This service allows solo travellers to request their own room.

Can I join the tour once it has departed?

It's extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary, please consult us before you book.

Useful information

Luggage transport.

The transfer of one piece of luggage per person is provided every day between the different accommodation: a soft bag, of the duffle bag type, of a maximum of 12kg per person.

You only carry your day’s belongings, in a backpack of about 30L.

If you spend the night at the Bonatti refuge on day 5, you will not have access to your luggage. You’ll need to pack for 2 days.

Is your Tour du Mont Blanc self-guided only part of your trip? You can leave any extra luggage you don’t need for your trek in Chamonix or the surrounding area. Many hotels and shops offer luggage storage services. In particular, you can use the website Bounce.com, which lists these drop-off points.

https://usebounce.com/

Between 6 and 8 hours’ walking per day throughout the trek, with some more difficult sections, particularly at the start of the season when the snow is still present. You should be able to climb at least 1,000 m (3 200ft.)a day for several days in a row.

Additional charge may apply

Due to very high demand for accommodation on the Tour du Mont Blanc, some stages may have to be changed. We try to stick as closely as possible to the stages described, choosing accommodation as close as possible to the original refuges. However, these changes may involve a private transfer, at an additional cost to the group, as described in the programme.

If Les Chapieux is unavailable at the end of day 3, the end of the itinerary will be slightly modified to finish the stage in another hut. On the morning of day 4, a supplement of €115 for the group (up to 8 people) will be charged for the private transfer to the start of the day’s stage.

On day 5, if the Bonatti hut is not available, a potential supplement of €30 per person may be charged for a night in a hotel in Courmayeur, as indicated in the programme.

  • A windproof and waterproof jacket
  • Walking trousers.

The terrain is varied and we recommend you wear walking boots that protect your ankles.

The accommodations provide blankets and pillows, but you will need a silk sheet, for hygienic reasons.

Happiness Promise

There are hundreds of thousands of guides and tour operators around the world. Figuring out who to trust is stressful and hard.

That’s why we started 10Adventures Tours, we’re here to make it easy to find a great guide or tour operator. We handpick the best local guides and tour operators for 10Adventures, working to ensure you have great guides and a great trip.

We know it sucks to show up in a different country and find out the tents are junk, the guide incompetent or the route different from what we thought we were getting.

We want to give our users peace of mind that you’ll have a great trip and offer a guarantee that we will work with you to make it right.

How does this work? Well, if you feel that something about your trip didn’t’ meet your expectations, let us know. We will then work to gather the details and figure out where things went wrong. If something indeed wasn’t as described, or went wrong with your trip, and the problem was within the control of either oursleves, the guide or the tour company, we will then work out a refund with you that’s proportional to the scale of the problem.

Obviously the best way to make a great trip is to tell your local guide or tour operator and give them the chance to fix the solution while you are on your trip. Most things can be solved by telling your guide when the issue develops. If that doesn’t solve it, then email us right away. Please don’t wait to voice your concerns until the trip is over, as it’s much harder to solve issues after the fact.

We work hard to make sure you have a great trip. If something isn’t right, please email  [email protected]  and we will get to work right away.

Setting out from Chamonix, you’ll soar 1800 meters high into the sky via the Bellevue cable car to begin your epic trek of Mont Blanc. Each day that unfolds on the exhilarating mountain route is characterized by unbeatable alpine hiking and spellbinding views of the Alps. Admire the valleys that sprawl in every direction as you stand triumphantly atop the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme pass (2,479m/8,133ft). Spot the Col de la Seigne and the Aiguille des Glaciers (3,816m/12,519ft) towering in the distance where Italy and Switzerland meet. Trek the imposing Glacier du Tour, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and gorgeous alpine meadows.

This tour is available as a standard tour or deluxe tour, allowing you to choose your desired style of accommodations in the hotels and mountain refuges along the route. You’ll enjoy rich and tasty mountain cuisine unique to each area of the Alps you’ll visit. Celebrate the completion of the Tour du Mont Blanc with a spectacular final evening in Chamonix, where you’ll enjoy the vibrant dining scene and exciting nightlife this famous mountain town is known for!

Itinerary for Complete Tour du Mont Blanc Trek

Your tour begins in Chamonix near the junction of France, Switzerland, and Italy, from where you’ll set out to explore the highest peak of the Alps—Mount Blanc. No matter where you are in this famous resort town, impressive vistas surround you in all directions, making even just a stroll down the street an adventure.

It’s not a bad idea to arrive here a day or two early, allowing you time to catch a train to the Mer de Glace or the cable car to Aiguille du Midi, both phenomenal excursions!

Bellevue Cable Car and Trek to Les Contamines

Your first day of trekking Mont Blanc is here! Enjoy a hearty breakfast, then take a bus transfer from Chamonix to Les Houches, where you’ll hop on the Bellevue cable car up to 1800m, taking in jaw-dropping views along the way. Switching things up from the “normal French route,” you’ll instead trace the edge of the mountain to Col de Voza, where you’ll begin your exhilarating descent into the valley.

On the route, you’ll take in several quaint mountain villages that pepper the valley floor, each set against the magnificent backdrop of Mont Blanc. The final section unfolds along the Bon Nant river, which you’ll follow to Les Contamines. Then, joining an ancient Roman path, you’ll traverse blooming meadows and enchanting woods to this evening’s cozy mountain hut.

Trek the Plan de Dames and the Vallee des Chapieux

Set out on your second day of trekking, ready to seize your next adventure in the Alps. This morning you’ll hike through the Plan de Dames, ascending first to Col du Bonhomme (2,329m/7,641ft), before pressing on to Col de la Croix du Bonhomme (2,479m/8,133ft).

From the top of the pass, take in the spellbinding views of the alpine valleys that sprawl before you in every direction. Then, descend via the Vallee des Chapieux, crossing small brooks and several huts. You’ll soon arrive in Les Chapieux, a tiny mountain village where you’ll spend the night in a small hotel.

Trek the Val Veny to the Col de la Seigne

Today is the most challenging day of the trek, but the rewards are guaranteed to be well worth the effort! Following two beautiful days trekking in France, today marks your cross over into Italy as you trek to the Col de la Seigne (2,516m/8,254ft) via the Val Veny.

An exciting climb through a plunging gorge sets the tone for the trek as you hike surrounded by wide-open pastures featuring almost lunar-like scenery. Stop to admire the Col de la Seigne and the Aiguille des Glaciers (3,816m/12,519ft) mountains lording over the landscape in the distance where Switzerland and Italy meet. Reach the top of the pass, then descend the Val Veny down the opposite side of Mont Blanc, where further mesmerizing views await.

Explore Courmayeur and Trek to Val Ferret

This morning you’ll rise and set out on a 5.5km walk to a bus bound for the world-famous ski resort, Courmayeur. Once in Courmayeur, spend some time relaxing and enjoying the quintessential Alps ambience and exceptional amenities.

Continue with a steep climb up to Val Ferret, hiking through pretty meadows and conifer woods. On the route, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Grandes Jorasses (4,208m/13,805ft), yet another famous mountain of the Mont Blanc massif to grace your path.

Trek to the Col du Gran Ferret and La Fouly

Rise in the mountains this morning, breathing in the fresh alpine air afforded by the Alps. This morning you’ll begin with a steep ascent past several abandoned farms, marking the beginning of your trek into Switzerland. The route ascends gradually before a challenging climb to Rifugio Elena, then on to the Col du Gran Ferret (2,537m/8,323ft) where you’ll find the crossing to Switzerland.

Take in the awe-inspiring vistas of the snow-capped Aiguille de Triolet (3,870m / 12,696ft) and the receding Pre de Bar glacier as you prepare to descend to the tiny hamlet of Ferret, then on to La Fouly where you’ll find tonight’s remote hotel.

Trek to Champex-Lac

After several challenging days, you’ll enjoy an easier walk today on a lengthy section, but one without significant elevation gains and losses.

Set out from La Fouly, tracing the river through pretty woodlands to reach Les Arlaches, a lovely little hamlet with traditional homes. Continue the trail to Orsieres, finally descending to tonight’s accommodation at Champex-Lac, a gorgeous mountain village perched on the lake.

Trek to Trient via the Fenêtre d'Arpette and Glacier du Trient

The Swiss Alps are yours to discover today as you trek the Fenêtre d'Arpette (2,665m/8,743ft), then descend via the Glacier du Trient. The small village of Trient is nestled on the pass road between Martigny and Chamonix. You'll enjoy stunning alpine meadows and pretty woodlands on your way to Trient, where you'll spend the night in a restored country house.

Trek to Montroc

Savour every moment of today's trek, as this journey to Montroc marks your final up-close views of magnificent Mont Blanc. Bound for France this morning, you'll hike towards Lake Charamillon, with the colossal Glacier du Tour as your guide. Enjoy a thrilling trail along the mountain crests, soaking up the imposing glacier and surrounding valley views.

Arriving at the Swiss-France border, stop to revel in the views of Mont Blanc and its rugged ivory-coloured peaks, which contrast remarkably with the brilliant blue sky. Afterwards, take the bus or train to spend the night in Chamonix.

Final Hike and Return to Chamonix

Start your morning with a public transfer to small village of Les Frasserands, where you'll take in the typical wooden houses characteristic of the French Alps. Then, a brief climb will guide you into the Aiguilles Rouges Natural Park. You can either climb up to La Blanc from the park before descending to La Flegere or descend directly to La Flegere.

Hiking towards Planpraz, you'll encounter a stellar lineup of remarkable mountain views, including the Aiguille Verte, the Drus, the Aiguille du Midi, and Mont Blanc du Tacul. From Planpraz, return to Chamonix via cable car, where your trek concludes.

Chamonix is an excellent place to celebrate a successful trek of Mont Blanc! Enjoy this bustling alpine town's unique atmosphere with a farewell dinner, followed perhaps by some celebratory drinks at one of Chamonix's buzzing bars or nightclubs.

Your Tour du Mont Blanc concludes this morning. Check out of your hotel in Chamonix and depart.

The Tour du Mont Blanc features in the World’s top ten 'must do' treks and it's not hard to understand why, as this trek is outstanding with amazing views day after day. RUSSIAN MOUNTAIN MAJESTY

Climbers rugged up against the cold on Elbrus

Elbrus, Europe's highest peak, is a giant dormant volcano that separates Europe from Asia. The straightforward yet spectacular climb is contrasted by the cultural wonders of enigmatic Russia.

With short 12 or 14 day options, the Elbrus Expedition is an ideal objective as your first or second of the Seven Summits.

Adventure Consultants offers two options for climbing Elbrus. For those who wish to explore some of Russia's most beautiful cultural cities, Trip 1 is 14 days in duration and starts in St Petersburg and finishes in Moscow. Our shorter Trip 2 is 12 days long and starts and finishes in Moscow.

Being relatively high, Elbrus demands respect and we approach this by climbing higher each day during our acclimatisation phase whilst sleeping at lower elevations at night. A cable car takes us up to accommodation at the base of the climb where we learn basic snow and ice techniques from the guides prior to the ascent. The summit day entails climbing long snow slopes with views over the wooded valleys to the surrounding peaks.

  • Get a taste of high-mountain adventure on one of the Seven Summits
  • Also one of the Volcanic Seven Summits, comprised of the highest volcanoes on each of the seven continents
  • Opportunity to discover the wonders of St Petersburg or Moscow
  • Experience non-technical moderate-altitude mountaineering

What's next on your Seven Summits Pathway ?

The ascent of Elbrus is a physically challenging ascent involving around 1,500m of elevation gain. A high level of fitness is important for a successful ascent, as summit day is often 12-hours in length. Be sure to include some long, endurance training into your fitness regimen.

No technical climbing experience required. We do recommend that you join an introductory mountaineering instruction course such as our Chamonix Introductory Mountaineering Course or Europe Private Instruction Course prior to the expedition if you have time, but it is not essential, as there are opportunities to practice and review basic snowcraft skills prior to the summit attempt, which makes an ascent of Elbrus a great option for any fit mountain enthusiast.

No prior altitude experience required.

Trip Reviews

Discover japan.

The tour exceeded our expectations. Jarrod was relaxed and organised. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we did. We were worried that a tour would be rigid and detract from the experience, however this was not the case at all. Having an expert at hand when needed really enhanced the tour.

British

Well organized, great cross section of the country and great sites and insight. Super hotels and ryokans. And it was fun!!! A lot more fun than we expected!!!

American

Was very impressed by Japan and felt the tour exposed many different aspects of the country. The group leader was excellent, I would gladly travel to other countries with the same leader.

Canadian

This tour was a good introduction to Japan.

All locations included were excellent. Only more days could have improved tour. Looking forward to additional G Adventures Japan tours with different locations!

Enjoyed each day travelling with our group and Jarrod as our leader. Every day was an adventure filled with new sights, different tastes of local food and a close-up look at the Japanese culture (also plenty of laughs).

It was well planned and enjoyable in every aspect. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and easy to get along with. Transportation was well planned and ran like clockwork. I would definitely choose another tour with G Adventures.

much more fun than I thought is would be!

Where else in the world, except Japan, can you go to experience the traditional mixed with the modern, and while not speaking the language and still feel completely at home. Mix in a group of people with different backgrounds, travelling together to places they have never seen and who realize at the end they could not have imagined or understood these places without being there and you receive 15 perceptions of a place which absorbs you. The tour brought you the opportunities to explore on your own and as a group and the confidence to step out of what you thought was your comfort zone. A great experience which went by way to fast, as they say time flies when you’re having fun.

Australian

Overall a fantastic, informative, and fun trip. Small group size (13) allowed for getting to know the other travellers.
