Omarion & Bow Wow Announce 2021 Millennium Tour Feat. Soulja Boy & More

The "Millenium Tour" is making yet another comeback!

On Friday (June 18), Bow Wow and Omarion announced the tour dates for the nationwide tour, which was delayed in 2020 due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

“We got unfinished business to handle!” Bow, who is gearing up for his upcoming Verzuz battle with Soulja Boy , wrote on social media. “…. WE OWE YOU GUYS. This what you been waiting on… lets go! We back outside!!!!!”

The tour will include special appearances from Ashanti , Soulja Boy, Pretty Ricky , the Ying Yang Twins , and Sammie . While B2K headlined the 2019 tour, they are not involved this time around.

As fans know, the return of the "Millennium Tour" was announced in November 2019. The tour was supposed to kick off in Louisville, Kentucky, in February 2020, but was postponed amidst fears over the pandemic.

The 2021 tour will begin on October 1 in Los Angeles before making stops in Oakland, Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, and Miami — to name a few — before ultimately wrapping up on November 26 in Las Vegas.

Tickets for the tour go on sale the same day as Bow and Soulja's highly-anticipated Verzuz battle on Saturday, June 26.

Decades before Omarion launched his second Millennium Tour on Oct. 1 as co-founder, executive producer and headliner, he was the teenaged lead singer of chart-topping boy band B2K. He was 17 when the quartet (comprised of fellow vocalists Lil’ Fizz, J-Boog and Raz-B) released their self-titled debut album in 2002, which premiered at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

“I’m part of such an early time in music that reminds you of the good times,” he theorizes to Billboard . “We’re the only tour that has that nostalgia.”

Now at 37, Omarion’s making his ninth career appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, thanks to his appearance on Summer Walker’s “Screwin.” The collab comes from Walker’s new album Still Over It, the first R&B LP by a woman to top the Billboard 200 in more than five years, with the largest streaming week ever for an R&B album by a female artist.

“I’ve been intentional about reintroducing myself,” the Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling solo artist says . “ 15 years ago I would’ve had to go through peaks and valleys [to achieve this level of success]. That’s why I’m proud of this tour and excited to be at this point in my career.”

These days, Omarion has been trending for something other than his vocals — memories of his old dance skills became the catalyst for the Omarion Challenge, after a social media user named Marlene posted a throwback clip of Omarion’s moves captured during a show in Chicago more than six years ago. The culmination of the pop culture moment came during his sold-out concert in Chicago on Oct. 29. As seen on video , Omarion gifted Marlene the signature red jacket he wore in the original recording. “I started getting notifications [of people mimicking my dance],” he laughs. “I was like, ‘Oh is this a joke now? This really is funny.’ I take full ownership in everything I do, even if people make fun of it.”

For Omarion, who’s maintained a clean image throughout his journey from “child prodigy” to dad of two (A’mei Kazuko Grandberry and Megaa Omari Grandberry), it’s gotten easier to turn public attention into good publicity. “Being that I grew up in the public eye, I had to learn lessons about ownership and responsibility,” says the star. “I never take things too personal. Everybody has an opinion. That’s why you have to know who you are.”

When asked why he believes the Millennium Tour (which features a lineup of fellow artists including Bow Wow, Sammie, Lloyd, Soulja Boy, Ying Yang Twins, Ashanti and Pretty Ricky) has been such a hit, Omarion credited its execution to his “tunnel vision” and ability to “focus on the magic moment, because these things come at the proper time.” After all, facilitating a national tour while adhering to various state COVID regulations is no easy task. But with the help of other tour special guests including Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown and Omarion’s B2K bandmates Lil Fizz and Raz-B, he says the journey is worth it. “The tour is a mixture and great gumbo of what encapsulates the 2000s,” he explains, “and that’s pretty lit.”

Also lit is the tour logo, which he designed himself. The black, white and red Michael Jackson Bad -inspired design delivers “that vibe that says, ‘We bad on the Millennium Tour,’” he jokes. “It embodies the future, past and now.”

Indeed, Omarion and his tourmate Bow Wow have a long history. They first joined forces musically for their hit duets “Let Me Hold You” and “Girlfriend” more than 10 years ago; both songs cracked the top 40 on the Hot 100. “‘One day, ‘Girlfriend’ was playing during me and Bow’s [recent] meet and greet and I had a flashback about when Bow Wow and [producer] Jermaine [Dupri] got into an argument — and Bow Wow destroyed the studio because Jermaine was supposed to do the album, but we ended up working with other producers,” Omarion recalls, laughing. “It’s funny because he was so upset — like, ‘O! Let’s go man, we out.’ They obviously made up because they have a father, son relationship, but it’s hilarious.”

And while Omarion enjoys celebrating his past and bringing nostalgia to his fans, he’s looking forward to the 2022 release of his new book, Full Circle: Lessons and Takeaways on How to Live an Unbothered Life, “As a child prodigy growing up in front of the world, I have a unique story,” he says. “And a lot to share about emotional intelligence, being unbothered and the importance of meditation and spirituality.”

The highly coveted brand must-see tour dates will include performances by Lloyd, Pleasure P, Bobby V, Sammie, Ying Yang Twins, Dem Franchize Boyz, Crime Mob, Travis Porter, Lil Scrappy, Trillville, Chingy, and the reunion of Day 26.

Before offering to the general public, The Millennium Tour tickets go on presale with The American Express® Card Members beginning Tuesday, August 16 at 10 am local time through Thursday, August 18 at 10 pm local time. G-Squared & BPC's presale starts on Thursday, August 18, from 10 am to 10 pm local time. Tickets will be available to the general public on Friday, August 19 at 10 am local and range from $59.50 to $169.50 and may vary by city. Tickets can be purchased here .

The Millenium Tour Set To Return In The Fall

The Millineum tour is back and better! After being forced to cancel because of COVID-19 concerns, the 27-city tour is set to kick off on Oct. 1, in Los Angeles, CA.

Shad Moss AKA Bow Wow and Omarion, who are also headlining the tour, announced the news on social media.

The rapper also took to Instagram to announce the news to his 4.6 million followers.

“**OFFICIAL TOUR DATES** We got unfinished business to handle! #millenniumtour2021 Starring: Bow wow & Omarion. With special guest Ashanti and more… get your tickets now! (1st arena tour to roll out since the pandemic) WE OWE YOU GUYS. This what you been waiting on… lets go! We back outisde!!!!!” wrote Moss.

Omarion also made an announcement to his fans, with a simple message.

In addition to the rapper and singer headlining the highly-anticipated tour, there will be special appearances from all of our early 2000’s faves! Those set to feature are Ashanti, Soulja Boy, Pretty Ricky, the Ying Yang Twins, and Sammie. While B2K headlined the 2019 tour, they are not involved this time around.

Tickets for the tour go on sale Saturday, June 26.

On the heels of The Millennium Tour’s success, G-Squared Events announced plans on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, to return with The Millennium Tour next year. This time, Omarion will be joined by fellow Face Off collaborator Bow Wow to relive their joint project back in late 2007. The lineup is full of nostalgic fan favorites from the 2000’s including the Ying Yang Twins, Lloyd, Sammie, Pretty Ricky, and Soulja Boy.

There was a distinct high that cocooned the first Millennium Tour in 2019. It was a moment for girls-turned-women to travel back to a time when they were screaming teenagers who collected Word Up! posters. The boys we once fawned over had reminded us that they were grown men now, that time was simply a social construct. For all intents and purposes, a perfectly frozen moment in time was thawed out right when we needed.

Despite Day26’s long-awaited reunion being filled with minor technical difficulties, the quintet powered through like the professionals they were molded to be. Their brief set prompted two questions though: when is their next Bryan-Michael Cox-produced album coming and why isn’t Making The Band available to stream? In hindsight, some parts of the concert should’ve been cut to make room for them to have a longer set.

The “Tell Me” crooner channeled his combative Verzuz energy as he declared, “n****s told me I couldn’t sing,” while finishing an acoustic run of “Turn The Page.” He was also the first act of the night to include background dancers, jumping off the stage platform as “Pimpin’ All Over The World” blared throughout the arena. To say he was doing a lot is an understatement. He ended his set with a mic drop after proclaiming, “‘ Verzuz ’ ain’t over. N****s can’t f**k with me.”

With similar exuberance, his RSVP bandmate Pleasure P used a movie trailer to usher in his set. Rocking a red fur coat, black leather pants, and a new blonde look before diving into his solo records, the Miami-bred singer branded himself the new “bad boy of R&B” with co-signs from Keith Sweat and Teddy Riley. The first surprise guest of the show was his brother, Spectacular, who aided him in performing their Pretty Ricky records “Grind With Me,” “Your Body,” and “On The Hotline.”

After thrusting the air and breaking out into a glisten, RSVP— Ray J , Sammie, Bobby V, and Pleasure P—recreated the “One Wish” viral moment from Verzuz before announcing their debut single , “Money Everywhere.” Their album’s release date was not announced.

Despite the brief escapism experienced with Thicke’s cooing of “Lost Without You,” the turn-up continued with the South taking over for the ‘99 and the 2000s. The Travis Porter -Crime Mob portion of the evening was evocative, transforming the room into a HBCU Homecoming afterparty. Between twerking in the aisles and all of us rapping along to “Knuck If You Buck” live as though it was a Sunday service, this is community personified. A personal apex was the present and the past coming together as Trillville performed “Some Cut” as their dancers hit Victoria Monét ’s viral choreography.

Later, Lil Jon popped up for a few songs while the Ying Yang Twins dedicated their set to “ the spirit of Takeoff. ” By the end of their set, the high energy declined at lightning speed. It seemed that many people tuned out Keri Hilson and Mario, who are mostly known for their ballads. Even Mario’s featured guests Ty Dolla $ign and O.T. Genasis couldn’t reignite the show’s spark.

Bow Wow, the night’s main headliner, did his best to hype the crowd up with fan-favorites. His unfiltered 2005 diss track, “Fresh Azimiz,” was the perfect way to crank things back up. Dem Franchize Boyz—Parlae and Pimpin’—took centerstage to join Bow for a lively rendition of their collab, “I Think They Like Me (Remix)” sans Da Brat. The now-duo then performed their hit single, “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It.” As the child prodigy took us on a ride with timeless gems like “Take Ya Home” and “Bounce With Me” before his daughter, Shai in lieu of Ciara, appeared for “Like You.” It may have been inching towards the end, but the rap phenom kept his set confined to the strict midnight deadline.

Despite Bow alluding to a potential Millennium Tour IV in 2023, the concert series either needs to end or change—no in-between. There are so many artists to be called upon for a tour that celebrates the 2000s. Both Chris Brown and Ne-Yo can have full sets based on their debut albums alone. Call upon Ginuwine, Donnell Jones, Mýa, or Monica. The era of the heartthrob may be dormant with current acts, but it’s clear authoritative veterans can still sell out shows.

Another idea might be is to hone in on quality over quantity by having less acts on the bill. Nonetheless, this tour needs to grow up—its fans already have.

Later in 2022, Bow Wow will be hosting a new installment of The Millennium Tour across America along with another exciting lineup. The 24-city campaign kicks off October 7th in Hampton and continues through November visiting major markets like Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. This year's version will be joined by Mario , Keri Hilson , Lloyd , Pleasure P , Bobby V , Sammie , Ying Yang Twins , Chingy , Dem Franchize Boyz , Lil Scrappy , Travis Porter , Day 26 , Crime Mob and Trillville.

The 2021 version of The Millennium Tour was nominated for Best R&B Tour at the 33rd Pollstar Awards and was joined by Omarion , Ashanti , Pretty Ricky and Soulja Boy among many others. Back in 2019, the same tour saw Omarion reunite with former B2K members Lil' Fizz, J-Boog and Raz-B. Since its inception, the annual tour has received 2 nominations for Top R&B Tour at the Billboard Music Awards while winning Top Rap Tour in 2022.

Mario, Keri Hilson and Bow Wow Announce ‘Millennium Tour: Turned Up’ Dates

The star-studded lineup also includes day26, pleasure p and bobby v, to name a few..

The Millennium Tour continues to evolve. Mario, Keri Hilson and Bow Wow are at the top of the bill for the Millennium Tour: Turned Up , announced today (Aug. 12).

Powered by G-Squared Events , Millennium Tour: Turned Up will also include a special reunion of R&B group Day26, plus Lloyd, Pleasure P , Bobby V, and Sammie. The latter four acts were on the previous Millennium Tour , as well as Mario and Bow Wow.

It won’t be a full night of R&B, though. The tour will also feature performances by rap acts Ying Yang Twins, Chingy, Dem Franchize Boyz, Lil Scrappy, Travis Porter, Crime Mob and Trillville.

The 24-city tour kicks off Oct. 7 at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia at Hampton Coliseum. From there, the crew will travel across the U.S., playing in major cities such as Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Memphis and Miami.

The tour will conclude Nov. 27 at Oakland Arena in Oakland, California.

Tickets will be available for presale beginning Thursday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. local time. All tickets can be purchased at gsquaredevents.com .

Circling back to Day26, the group recently announced their reunion and plans to celebrate their 15th anniversary with new music.

On Aug. 26, they will perform a special virtual concert with all five original members.

While Day26 is reuniting, another is formalizing. Ray J, Sammie, Bobby V and Pleasure P recently announced their new group RSVP , following their bonus match during Mario and Omarion’s Verzuz battle.

Although Ray J isn’t included in the Millennium Tour: Turned Up , it wouldn’t be a surprise if the other three members preview new music.

How Omarion's Star-Studded Millennium Tour Celebrates a "Very Special Time" in Music

The biggest party of the year could just be on The Millennium Tour.

For the past several weeks, Omarion and his closest friends including Bow Wow , Ashanti , Soulja Boy and more have been getting fans up on their feet in venues across the country. And with a jam-packed schedule planned for November, these artists aren't slowing down anytime soon.

"This whole concept of The Millennium Tour is really a true representation of an era and time where music felt a certain type of way," Omarion, who serves as the headliner, exclusively shared with E! News. "This tour is special for that reason. It brings you back to a place. It brings you back to a time when you heard a song for the first time. It's not just a sing along. It's also entertainment."

The R&B singer continued, "It's the Ying Yang Twins , Sammie , Lloyd …I like to highlight that we've been performing since we were very young. Bow Wow, my business partner in crime. All of our audience is coming up in that era of 106 and Park and TRL ."

When determining his set list, Omarion wasn't afraid to look back on his entire career, which started off in the boy band B2K . And while he doesn't want to give everything away before his shows, the Grammy nominee is confident fans will be very happy with what they hear onstage.

"My audience is definitely prepared for some of my older tunes but also introducing some new songs," he teased. "I've never had B2K in my set as a solo artist. I wanted to kind of leave those songs behind but I brought that back in…I do some new songs. It's a mesh of going from the past and moving into the future now."

Looking ahead, Omarion is preparing to publish his first book, Full Circle: Lessons & Takeaways on How to Live an Unbothered Life , in 2022.

But for now, he's ready to get fans movin' and groovin' with his biggest hits, including his new collaboration with Bow Wow and Soulja Boy titled " EX ."

"For the originals, for the people that have been on the journey since the beginning, we want to say welcome," Omarion shared. "They know that they will be entertained and for the newbies, I would just say expect the unexpected. Expect to remember, expect to feel, expect to dance, expect to have all that energy permeate and be able to stand in your moment and take some mental pictures and really feel and embody and express joy."

In between performing at venues across the country, Omarion gave E! News an exclusive look at The Millennium Tour. "It's a very special time in music and that is really what I'd say is the magic of the tour is," he explained. "We're able to really encapsulate nostalgia and that's really why this tour is super, super special."

With more than 20 years in the business, Omarion credits one family member for making it all possible. "I definitely have to salute my mom, being a young mother and having me at 16. I have to give her all the credit because she really gave me and my brother's the freedom to experience whatever we wanted," he explained. "I've really accredited my career to having a strong foundation and a sense of family and because I had that foundation, I've always been able to keep healthy habits and prepare myself for progression and change."

As a proud dad to two children with Apryl Jones , Omarion hopes they receive one message when watching dad perform. He wants them to realize they "have the freedom to explore and figure out what their purpose is here on this planet and their contribution not only to themselves first, but to society and this wonderful life experience that is happening so fast," he shared. "The foundation is the key to building anything. If you want to build something, you have to build them on things that are sturdy and strong."

How does Omarion look so good on tour? In addition to his loyal hairstylist, the performer also credits working out for his sleek appearance. "Myself and my good friend who is head of security, Swaggy P , we do high intensity training," he shared. "I've been training for maybe the last five or six years with him and I've just been really building my stamina over time to be able to perform high intensity and take those breaks when necessary."

Before showtime, Omarion likes to hang with friends including Summer Walker and build up his energy. "Just like a boxer, we don't go to the fight cold. We're warming up our bodies with dancing, stretching, drinking some warm tea," he said. "I really, really prepare my mind body and spirit. Sitting in silence is also one of my rituals, breath exercises and vocal warm ups."

When teasing The Millennium Tour, Omarion hoped that audience members could forget about their troubles and experience two hours of happiness. "We all have a difficult time in life at some point," he said. "And it's very important in this human experience that we all link together from all different walks of life to express that joy and how important it is for our human experience."

2 April, 2012 / Passenger plane ATR 72 crashed this morning in Tyumen airport Roshchino. It was carrying out the flight from Tyumen to Surgut. There were 43 people on board of the aircraft: 31 died, 12 were hospitalized with burns and severe injuries. Our condolences to the families and friends of the dead and injured.

History of Tyumen

Foundation of tyumen.

In the 13th-16th centuries, on the banks of the Tyumenka River, there was the capital of the Tyumen Khanate - Chingi-Tura. The construction of the Russian fortified settlement of Tyumen began near the remains of Chingi-Tura in the summer of 1586, during the conquest of Siberia by the Russians.

In the Russian chronicles of the 16th century, the Tyumen Khanate was called “Great Tyumen”. “Tumen” (“tyumyan”) in Turkic languages means “lower reaches of the river”, “lowland”. The same word also means a military unit 10 thousand people strong.

Tyumen was founded as an outpost for the conquest and development of Siberia and the Far East on the old caravan road from Central Asia to the Volga region. Waterways connected Tyumen with the lands of the Far North and East. The original population of Tyumen, as a frontier town, consisted of boyars (Russian nobility), streltsy (Russian firearm infantry), and Cossacks. In 1616, the Trinity Monastery was founded in Tyumen by the monk Nifont.

In the first years after its foundation, Tyumen was subjected to attacks by Tatars and Kalmyks. Over time, with the disappearance of the military threat, crafts became the primary occupation of the townspeople (blacksmithing, bell-making, soap-making, and tanning).

Tyumen in the 17th-19th centuries

One century after its foundation, about 2 thousand people lived in Tyumen. In 1695, a fire broke out, as a result of which the wooden town burned down. After that, stone construction began in Tyumen. Of the stone structures of that time, the complex of buildings of the Trinity Monastery has been preserved.

At the beginning of the 18th century, Tyumen was a major transit point for trade; trade routes from China and all of Siberia to the center of Russia passed through the town. Tyumen was famous for the production of furniture and other wood products. In 1763, 6,593 people lived here, of whom 317 were artisans.

In the 19th century, simultaneously with the decline of Tobolsk, rapid growth began in Tyumen. In 1836, the first steamer in Siberia was launched in Tyumen. It became one of the largest river shipbuilding bases in the Russian Empire. In 1885, the Yekaterinburg-Tyumen railway was put into operation. At the end of the century, the cargo turnover of the Tyumen port reached 230 thousand tons per year, and the port itself was called “the gateway to Siberia”.

By the beginning of the 20th century, the number of residents of Tyumen reached 30 thousand and exceeded the population of Tobolsk. In Tyumen, there were 117 factories, including 3 shipyards, 2 steam mills, 70 tanneries, and other enterprises. In 1913, the Tyumen-Omsk railway connected the city with the Trans-Siberian Railway.

Tyumen in the 20th century and beyond

From 1923 to 1934, Tyumen was the center of the Tyumen District within Ural Oblast. On January 17, 1934, this huge region was divided into three oblasts - Sverdlovsk Oblast with the center in Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg), Chelyabinsk Oblast with the center in Chelyabinsk, and Ob-Irtysh Oblast with the center in Tyumen. From December 7, 1935 to August 14, 1944, Tyumen was part of Omsk Oblast. In 1939, the population of Tyumen was 79,205 people.

During the Second World War, the industrial potential of Tyumen increased significantly due to the enterprises evacuated from the European part of the USSR. In total, 22 evacuated enterprises were operating in the city, producing armored boats, mortars, motorcycles, electrical equipment for tanks, shells, mines, short fur coats, felt boots, and food. About 20 thousand residents of Tyumen fought at the front.

On August 14, 1944, Tyumen Oblast was formed - the largest region in the country in terms of area. The distance from the southernmost point of the region to the northernmost point was 2,100 km, and from west to east - 1,400 km. Tyumen became the administrative center of this new region.

In the 1960s, large deposits of oil and natural gas were discovered in the north of the Tyumen region, which became a new page in the history of Tyumen. In 1966, the construction of the Tyumen - Tobolsk - Surgut - Nizhnevartovsk railway began. A lot of enterprises of the city began to work for the oil and natural gas extraction industry.

Tyumen became the starting point and transshipment point for the delivery of goods to the North. New specialized enterprises, design institutes, and higher educational institutions were opened in the city. From 1959 to 1979, the population of Tyumen doubled - from 150 to 359 thousand people.

Tyumen Oblast became the country’s main oil and natural gas energy base. By the end of the 1980s, about 400 million tons of oil and 574 billion cubic meters of natural gas were annually produced here. In 1989, the population of Tyumen was 476,869 people.

In the 2010s, Tyumen was significantly transformed: new micro-districts, roads, bridges were built, streets were expanded. In 2015, the 700 thousandth inhabitant of the city was born. In 2020, the population of Tyumen exceeded 800 thousand people. In today’s Russia Tyumen is one of the fastest growing cities.

Tyumen is located in the south of Western Siberia, in the Asian part of Russia, on both banks of the Tura, the left tributary of the Tobol River. Tyumen is a large industrial city, the oil and natural gas capital of Russia, as the administrative center of the largest oil and natural gas producing region. The City Day of Tyumen is celebrated on the last Saturday of July.

The climate in Tyumen is transitional from moderately continental to sharply continental. The average temperature in January is minus 15 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 18.8 degrees Celsius. The warm period lasts only 3-4 months here. The longest seasons are autumn and spring. The weather in the city can change quickly, in the morning it is sunny and warm, and in the evening it is snowy and frosty.

Today’s coat of arms of Tyumen is generally very similar to the historical coat of arms approved in 1785. The image of a wooden river boat, according to the historical description, means that “from this town begins sailing along the rivers of all Siberia.”

The Trans-Siberian Railway “Moscow - Vladivostok” passes through Tyumen. At present, it is the only transcontinental railway that completely passes through the territory of Russia. It is adjoined by the Tyumen - Novy Urengoy railway line, which serves the transportation of the northern regions. The main feature of the Tyumen transport hub is that it is the only point of connection to the all-Russian transport network of the main transport communications of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

The main air gateway to Tyumen is the international airport “Roshchino” named after D. I. Mendeleev. Located about 13 km west of Tyumen, this airport offers regular flights to such cities as Kaliningrad, Krasnodar, Moscow, Nizhnevartovsk, Novy Urengoy, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Salekhard, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Surgut, Ufa, Khanty-Mansiysk, and a number of others.

Oil and natural gas of the Tyumen region contributed to the rapid growth of scientific organizations in the city. In total, several dozen research and design institutes are located here. Fundamental science is represented by the Institute of the Earth’s Cryosphere and the Institute for the Problems of the Development of the North. Applied science is focused on the needs of the oil and natural gas industry. Thousands of students study in 15 higher education institutions.

The beautiful wooden architecture of Tyumen should be noted separately. The unique carved decoration of the Tyumen buildings of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries uses the traditions of Russian decorative art, folk motives, as well as creatively reworked artistic techniques of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, and partly Art Nouveau. Often, styles are combined, complemented by local motifs, forming a unique look of wooden architecture, characteristic only of Tyumen.

There are 17 federal cultural heritage sites in Tyumen. Among the specially protected natural areas in the city are the Botanical collection of the biological faculty of Tyumen State University (3 hectares), as well as the regional natural monuments Forest Park named after Yu.A. Gagarin (105 hectares) and the Zatyumensky Forest Park (77 hectares). In the vicinity of Tyumen there are about five hot (37-50 degrees Celsius) geothermal springs.

Interesting facts from the history of Tyumen during World War II

During the war, the body of V. I. Lenin was evacuated from Moscow to Tyumen; the functions of the mausoleum were temporarily performed by the building of the current Tyumen State Agricultural Academy.

In 1942, a single copy of a winged tank was built in Tyumen. Developed by aircraft designer Antonov from 1941 to 1943, it was a T-60 tank loaded on a glider (“Wings of a Tank”).

In February 1944, for two weeks, the Tyumen militia were catching cats in the city to send them to the Hermitage (Leningrad), where during the blockade numerous rodents bred, posing a threat to works of art. 238 cats were sent to the northern capital of Russia and gave rise to a new population of Leningrad cats.

Main Attractions of Tyumen

Embankment of the Tura River - one of the main walking areas of Tyumen. It is especially pleasant to walk here in the summer heat. The length of the embankment is 4 km. It runs along the right bank of the Tura River in the central part of the city. The four levels of the embankment have a total height of 24 meters. City holidays, festivals, concerts, etc. are held here.

At night, the Tyumen embankment looks especially beautiful, thanks to the illumination of the Lovers’ Bridge (a cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, where newlyweds come after the solemn registration of marriage). There are cafes and restaurants within walking distance from the embankment. The Tura River is navigable, so you can look at the Tyumen embankment from the water during a boat trip.

Tsvetnoy Boulevard - a pedestrian street 800 meters long, passing through the center of Tyumen between Ordzhonikidze and Pervomayskaya streets. It is a very popular place for recreation and walking among locals and tourists. In summer, city celebrations, concerts, and festivals take place here, in winter they organize an ice town with slides, ice sculptures, and bright lighting. Along the street there are cafes, shopping centers, a movie theater, a sports complex, and a circus. On one of the squares there is the fountain “Four Seasons” with a picturesque stained glass dome.

There are a lot of sculptures on the boulevard, the characters most beloved by the locals - clowns Nikulin, Karandash, and Oleg Popov - can be found near the Tyumen circus. The name “Tsvetnoy” was coined by analogy with Tsvetnoy Boulevard in Moscow, because a circus is also located on it. In the amusement park, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Tyumen from the Ferris wheel.

Siberian Cats Square - a unique place of its kind, often included in the lists of the most original sights of Tyumen. In 2008, on this then unnamed alley, 12 cast-iron gilded figures of cats were installed, sitting in different poses on stone pedestals.

This was done in memory of the fact that during the Second World War, after the blockade of Leningrad was broken, about 5 thousand cats were sent to the city from different places of the country to catch numerous rats. By that time, there were no cats in Leningrad, they were all eaten. 238 cats were taken from Tyumen to the northern capital specifically to protect the priceless storage facilities of the Hermitage and other Leningrad palaces and museums. Tyumen Regional Museum of Fine Arts - one of the best art museums beyond the Urals. The exposition includes a unique collection of Russian portrait painting of the 18th - early 20th centuries, paintings created by Western European artists of the 17th-19th centuries, as well as art works by Soviet and contemporary artists and sculptors. Museum of Local Lore “The City Duma” - a museum located in the very center of the city, not far from the embankment and the Lovers’ Bridge, in a building that is an architectural monument (the first civil stone building in Tyumen, built in 1828-1834). Previously, the City Duma and the Tyumen archive were located here. Holy Trinity Monastery - a majestic religious monument with gilded domes and laconic white facades located on the bank of the Tura River, an architectural monument of federal significance. This is one of the oldest monasteries in Siberia, founded in 1616.

Today, it is one of the most famous and popular architectural religious complexes throughout Siberia. It is advisable for tourists to dress according to the weather, comfortable and not provocative, in accordance with the rules of the Russian Orthodox Church (women must have a skirt, as well as a scarf covering their heads). Gilevskaya Grove - a picturesque forest park with almost 80 hectares of dense forest, a river, and a lake, one of the most favorite places for recreation and walks in Tyumen. Hot springs “Verkhniy Bor” - a recreation center located about 15 km from Tyumen. Here you can swim in pools both in summer and in winter, when it is minus 30 degrees Celsius outside. The water temperature reaches plus 40 degrees Celsius. Bathing in healing hot waters has a positive effect on human health. A visit to “Verkhny Bor” is recommended for people with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Monument to Grigory Rasputin - an art object located in the heart of Tyumen, in Aptekarskiy Garden, near the city Perinatal Center. Grigory Rasputin (1869-1916) is a highly controversial personality in Russian history known for his friendship with the family of the last Russian emperor Nicholas II. They believed that he had the talents of perspicacity and healing. This gave Rasputin the opportunity to exert a great influence on the administration of the Russian Empire in the last years of its existence.

This monument was erected here for a reason. In the summer of 1914, Rasputin was taken to a hospital located near the garden with a knife wound to the abdominal cavity. He was brought from afar, from his native village of Pokrovskoye. Later, for some time, Rasputin worked here as a medical orderly.

The sculpture is a full-length image of Rasputin - a tall man with a thick beard. He is dressed in the so-called “Siberian coat” - a traditional Russian caftan. The left hand rests on a Viennese chair - an exact copy of the original chair from the Rasputin Museum located in the village of Pokrovskoye. There are city legends about this monument. Grigory Rasputin Museum . This museum is located in the village of Pokrovskoye (Sovetskaya Street, 79), about 80 km from Tyumen, if you drive in the direction of Tobolsk. The museum was created thanks to the enthusiasm of fellow villagers of Rasputin in 1990. They collected things and documents related to his personality and family. It was the first private museum in the USSR. The building of the museum is not much different from the rest of the village houses on this street, but this is not the original house in which the Rasputin family lived, but a reconstructed one. The original one was demolished in 1980. Every Saturday and Sunday, at 11:00 am, a two-hour excursion is held.

History of Tyumen

Prior to Russian rule, the Tatar city of Chimgi-Tura marked the site of modern Tyumen, Russia and served as the capital of the Siberian Khanate. In 1586, Tyumen was the very first city to be founded by the Russians in Siberia. Part of the Ural Region until 1944, today it is the administrative center of Tyumen Region and one of Russia’s key industrial and cultural centers.

The name of the city is still a mystery to researchers. Some suggest that it came from the Tatar word "tumen", meaning "army of ten thousand", while others speculate that the name is a combination of the words "tyu" and "myana", which together mean "my property". Today in the Tatar language, the word "tyumen" literally translates as "lowland", which is an appropriate term for a city which straddles the Tura River.

Whichever theory is accurate, one thing is for sure: today there is something in Tyumen to surprise and delight any traveler desiring to experience firsthand the mysterious romance of Siberia .

Tyumen Attractions

Most Tyumen city tours begin at Tura River Embankment, one of the area’s most scenic spots from which sweeping views of Holy Trinity Monastery and Church of the Holy Cross Exaltation open up from Lovers’ Bridge.

Historical Square marks the site of Tyumen’s earliest settlements. Not far from Historical Square is Holy Trinity Monastery, which opened in 1616 and is the oldest surviving hermitage in the city today. One of Tyumen’s most significant religious sites, it attracts many Orthodox pilgrims from Western Siberia and the Urals. The monastery is accompanied by a gorgeous green square which is particularly beautiful in spring when the apple trees are in bloom.

An equally important religious monument is Znamensky Cathedral (Cathedral of the Sign), located in Tyumen’s historical center. The original 17th- century church was wooden, but after repeatedly burning down it was replaced the following century with a stone cathedral built in the Siberian Baroque style. Major reconstruction work was completed in 1904, and the end result far exceeded expectations. Today Znamensky Cathedral continues to evoke awe with its striking iconostasis and cheerful exterior.

A walk down central Republic Street, where many 19th-century buildings can still be seen, will conjure up images of life in a bygone era. Kolokolnikovs’ Estate Museum Complex, which survived many fires, deserves special attention, as does House Averkiev with its extraordinary balconies and the former City Duma, which today houses the Regional Museum of Local Lore.

Twenty-first century Tyumen can be seen in all its glory as you wander Tsvetnoy Boulevard and Siberian Cats Park, whose name is derived from the square’s many cast-iron feline figures. Tyumen Regional Museum of Fine Arts serves as the city’s central showroom and is particularly known for its unique works of Russian cult artists such as Ivan Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin and Boris Kustodiev.

Tyumen has a good selection of restaurants offering cuisines for every taste and budget. For tourists, however, Chum Restaurant-Museum is a must. The restaurant serves unique Siberian dishes and is decked out in regional memorabilia. Guests even have the option to dine inside a semi-private cabinet designed to resemble a traditional chum (tent) .

Tyumen Souvenirs

In keeping with its Siberian roots, memorabilia with images of reindeer, red fish and bears are all popular. Fur coats and clothing items made from reindeer skins reflect the beauty of local traditional dress and are sure to keep you warm even in the dead of winter. Original figurines carved from bone make an unusual gift, while anyone with a sweet tooth will want to pay a visit to Kvartet Candy Factory, whose chocolates and other sweets decorated with Tyumen landscapes are equally decorative and delicious.
