Loose, free-flowing clothing is preferred given we will be visiting local communities. Knees and shoulders should be covered at all times.

You will be collected from your hotel at 8:00 am ready to begin our amazing adventure. Our first stop is the Cai Be Pier along the mighty Mekong River. Sit back and relax as our ‘sampan’ (a traditional motorised boat) takes you along the serene canals. These hidden waterways are engulfed in lush vegetation and local villages where you can admire the colours and culture alike.

Next up, we get back on the dry land of the Tan Phong island. After a quick stop off at a tasty fruit orchard, we will experience the enchanting music of Vietnam as guests of a local performance and take a guided bicycle tour of this marvellous island. Along the way, we will visit native families and learn how these locals use the land to craft everything from delicate rice paper to the sturdy roofs of their homes. A local family will treat us to Mekong delicacies for lunch which include freshly made spring rolls, fried pumpkin flower, and beautifully braised pork soaked in coconut juice

After our special Mekong lunch, we’ll transfer back to our boat and into the smaller canals of the delta. Here we can get up close and be a part of the daily life of local people and farmers. We will see the handicraft of local merchants preparing delicious coconut candy, rice-wine, unique hand-crafted pottery, and bricks made from scratch. Then we’ll head to the Vinh Long Pier and market where you can see even more of the specialities the Mekong has to offer.

Finally, we will head to Can Tho to reach your accommodation. We’ll have the chance to relax and explore the beautiful nightlife and tasty cuisine of the night market in this spectacular town during your overnight stay.

On day two, we’ll get up early and head straight out to make the most of the day. We’ll board our own private boat to head to Cai Rang, the biggest floating market in the whole of Asia. You will get to experience local produce being sold first hand from boat to boat. You’ll get the chance to buy products of your own and you can even sip your morning coffee at one of the awesome floating coffee shops.

After the market, we will head back to the hotel for some well-deserved breakfast. Having checked out, we’ll head to My Tho to visit the breathtaking Vinh Trang pagoda. Here your guide will show you around the incredible five-acre site. They will explain the history of the temple and show you the unique architecture and sculpture. After what promises to be an interesting and enjoyable day, we’ll head back to Ho Chi Minh City and drop you back to your accommodation.

We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. The tour will take you to visit the provinces (towns) of Mekong Delta, including My Tho (Tien Giang), Ben Tre, Can Tho.

Poetic and peaceful are adjectives describing the beauty of My Tho, Tien Giang, a town on the left side of the Mekong River. Traveling in My Tho, you will be released in the middle of the cool green space of the West, enjoying all kinds of attractive specialties.

Ben Tre is located in the Southwest region and famous for 4 islands, named Dragon (Cồn Long), Unicorn (Cồn Lân), Tortoise (Cồn Quy), Phoenix (Cồn Phụng) islands. Tourists can visit Lan islet, located downstream of the Tien River.

Con Lan is the largest of the four dunes on the Tien River, a green island with year-round orchards of many sweet fruits. Besides, coming to Con Son, visitors have the opportunity to explore honey-bee farms and coconut candy workshops of local people.

2-day Mekong Delta discovery from Saigon

On this tour you will discover the sights of the Mekong Delta. We pick you up in Saigon and take you to the pier where you board the boat. If you take the route from Cai Be (typically starting on even dates), a visit to the famous floating market of Cai Rang will be included. If you take the other way around from Can Tho (starting on odd dates), you will experience an exciting sampan excursion on the second day. Either way you have the chance to take land excursions and experience local handicraft production, colorful brick kilns, opulent orchards and peaceful villages.

Tour details

Day 1: panorama cruise and land excursion.

We pick you up from your hotel in Saigon (District 1) and take you to the pier where you board your comfortable river cruiser. As lunch is served, the boat starts cruising. Sit back and watch the fantastic scenery and the daily life of the Mekong Delta people. In the afternoon you can disembark for a guided leisurely stroll through a village and the surrounding fruit orchards or rice fields. Meet the friendly locals and taste the local produce and fruits. The day ends with a delicious on-board dinner before you retire to your cosy cabin for the night.

Day 2: Floating market or sampan excursion 

On day 2 you wake up well rested to the sound of the river and get ready for another exciting day of sightseeing in the Mekong Delta. Watch the locals go about their daily work drying exotic fruits and building ships on the wooden yards. 

Depending on the booked tour, we will board a sampan boat to Cai Rang floating market, the region’s busiest and most lively markets. Marvel at the sheer abundance of exotic fruits, vegetables and skilfully handcrafted regional products. We will pull up to the boats for talking and bargaining with the merchants. After the excursion to the market it is time to start the journey back to Saigon. From Can Tho we travel by road back to Saigon. If your tour started in Can Tho, you will board a small rowing sampan to explore the small canals around Cai Be or explore the surrounding area by foot.

N. B.: The floating markets in the Mekong Delta are no tourist markets but wholesale markets where produce of the Mekong Delta like fruits and vegetables are traded. For this reason the number of boats on the market fluctuates depending on harvesting seasons and market demand.

Picked up at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City and travel to Cai Be for about 2.5 hours driving. Vivid farming activities and the riverine life of the Mekong Delta can be seen on route. Catch a boat trip from Cai Be and paddle along the mighty Mekong River and see the riverine of local people working and living on the waterways of the Mekong Delta. It would be a mistake if not visit the town of Cai Be – one of the most colorful towns of Mekong Delta, and a family-run workshop making popcorn, pop-rice and rice paper.

A taste of these local specialties with a warm cup of green tea will completely bring you an unforgettable feeling in the tropical weather of Mekong Delta. Lunch will be set up in a local house located on an island, which is a fertile place for different fruits and trees. After lunch, take a short nap on a hammock under the shady garden or you also can do cycling along the village paths to enjoy the beauty of the countryside. Lastly, the cruise will transfer us to Vinh Long city to reach Can Tho – the heart of the Mekong Delta. Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 2: Can Tho – Cai Rang – Ho Chi Minh City (B)

Early morning today, take the boat trip to visit the famous Cai Rang floating market with the busy sense right at the time. This is the biggest floating market in Mekong Delta where you can see the daily life and local people selling their products on boats. It will be a perfect Mekong Delta tour to involve in Cai Rang floating market, the most famous one. Cai Rang Floating Market opens from around 5:00 and operates until midday. You can get up early to visit the market because the early morning is the most exciting moment here.

After that, return to your accommodation for breakfast. Then it is your leisure to experience the nature of Mekong Delta. After that, head back to Ho Chi Minh City. Mekong Delta Highlights tour ends.

Day 1: Check in Mekong Lodge (Lunch, Dinner)

- Depart from Ho Chi Minh City around 8.am, we head to Mekong Delta, the land of nine dragons. Getting out of the city, you will see the mighty delta with its quaint rural landscape and immense waterway.

- Arrive Cai Be, greeting at Cai Be harbor and boat trip transfer to Mekong Lodge.

- Check in your private bungalows and enjoy a delicious lunch in our Mekong Riverside Restaurant

- From 14h30pm: bike trip to Tan Phong island: visit some local handicraft: handmade banana leaves hammock, daily house products being made from water hyacinth, free fruit tasting & Vietnamese folk music. Then take small rowing boat to small canal.

8:00 am: Car and tour guide will pick you up from your hotel, ready to start our incredible 2-day Mekong Delta journey. Our first destination is Cai Be Pier along the mighty Mekong River. Sit back and relax as our ‘sampan’ (a traditional motorboat) takes you along the serene canals. These waterways are hidden between fresh vegetation and local villages, where you can admire the colors and local culture.

Then we return to the mainland of Tan Phong Island . After a short stop at a savory fruit garden, we will experience the enchanting music of Vietnam as guests of a local show and take a bicycle tour with a guide to discover this wonderful island. Along the way, we’ll visit indigenous families and learn how these locals use the land to make everything from delicate rice paper to the sturdy roofs of their houses. A local family will treat us with many Mekong specialties for lunch, including freshly made spring rolls, fried pumpkin flowers, and beautifully braised pork soaked in coconut juice.

After the special lunch, we will return to our boat and go through the small canals of the delta. Here we can get closer and be a part of the daily life of local inhabitants and farmers. Then we will head to Vinh Long , pier and market here will help you experience even more delicacies that the Mekong has to offer.

We will use our own private boat to head to Cai Rang , the largest floating market in the Mekong Delta, which is always bustling at good times. You will experience selling local products from boat to boat. You can even sip a morning coffee in one of the great floating cafés.

DAY 01: HCM – MY THO – BEN TRE – CAN THO ( L )

On day 1, start your day with an 8:30 AM pick-up from your centrally located hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Then head to the city of My Tho by bus. During the 1.5-hour bus drive to My Tho, learn about the cultures of the local people and enjoy the nice scenery of green rice fields. Visit Vinh Trang pagoda, the biggest pagoda in Mekong Delta. Continue to My Tho and take a boat trip along Mekong River. During the cruise, see fish cages and floating houses on the river. The boat will take you to a small canal, where you can escape the busy town. The cruise through the coconut trees lined canal will take you to a coconut island in Ben Tre. Disembark, walk around the village and visit a local family to enjoy tropical fruit, taste honey tea, honey wine and listen to Vietnamese traditional music, performed by the villagers. Continue walking on the village’s road to a coconut candy shop to learn how to make candy and see some handicrafts made from coconut trees. Take a walk through the village and discover many kinds of fruits, flowers, trees, and local houses. Take your time and take nice photos while enjoying the natural scenery. Then, head to a local restaurant and enjoy a local Vietnamese lunch under the tree shade. After lunch, have free time to walk or bike around the village, then travel by ferry and bus to Can Tho, the heart of Mekong Delta.

07:30: Pick up at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City and start the trip to Cai Be. Upon arrival in  Cai Be, have a boat ride to the remaining site of a renowned wholesale floating market on the Tien River many years ago. This site entitles you to learn something about the local trading habit that has changed due to the age of modern society when more terrestrial transportation and high techniques of agriculture have dominated everywhere. There, you can realize how diverse the area is and how rich orchard gardens are, which makes it the basket of fruit in the lower part of the Mekong River.

Ramble in small villages where you will uncover the beauty of an ancient house and learn about the indigenous culture. Make a short visit to a small family business where the locals make coconut fudges and crispy rice popcorn. Savor delicious fresh fruit and feel the slow rhythms of Southern Vietnamese folk music – a kind of music entwined with the life and culture of the Mekong Delta people.
