The 11 best rooftop bars in Paris

See one of the world’s best skylines up close at our favourite rooftop bars in Paris

Antoine Besse

From the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and Sacré Coeur to the hills of Belleville – heck, even the Tour Montparnasse on a good day – the French capital has undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and iconic skylines in the world.

And sure, you could try your luck sightseeing at a bar terrace in pretty much any part of the capital, but let’s be honest, where better to survey Paris’s architectural marvels than ten floors up with a cocktail in hand? Whether you go for a  hotel  whipping up mixology magic or one of the Perchoir chain’s trendy AF locations in the east, our list of the absolute best rooftop bars in Paris will make regular street-level boozing seem oh-so passé. Here are the best rooftop bars in Paris.

Best rooftop bars in Paris

1.  bar de la dame des arts.

Bar de la Dame des Arts

Bar de la Dame des Arts emerged in 2023 on the top of the chich Art Deco hotel of the same name, and became an instant favourite. Here you’ll find good vibes and well-crafted cocktails, and Notre-Dame just a stone's throw away. On the other side, the Eiffel Tower peeks out between the bell tower of Saint-Germain and the dome of Les Invalides, all on a sea of well-kept roofs (it’s the 6th, baby). Never used the panoramic setting on your phone? Now’s the time!

2.  Les Ombres

  • 7e arrondissement
  • price 3 of 4
  • 4 out of 5 stars
  • Recommended

Les Ombres

The full-on view of the Eiffel Tower at night would be reason enough to come to this glass-and-iron restaurant on the top floor of the Musée du Quai Branly , but chef Alain Ducasse’s food also demands that you sit up and take notice. Those without bottomless pockets should note that there is a reasonable prix fixe at lunch, but another option is to head to the terrace lounge bar, which offers a range of swish cocktails and posh nibbles to consume on one of its delightfully plush sofas. You’ll feel like you've strolled into a postcard, in a good way.

3.  Bar sur le Toit at Hotel Rochechouart

Bar sur le Toit at Hotel Rochechouart

The venerable Hotel Rochechouart, reigning over the bottom of the hill since 1929, got a good facelift in 2020 and now boasts a rooftop terrace at the top. As soon as you step out of the elevator, you’re face to dome with the Sacré-Cœur. And then the Eiffel Tower. And then the whole rest of beautiful Paris beyond. And what, we hear you cry, should you consume to recover from this unreal panorama? We say a signature cocktail and a small plate that soars far above a humble bowl of peanuts (we recommend the grilled prawns and the chicken gyoza).

4.  The Shed

The Shed

This is the star attraction at Hôtel des Grands Boulevards on  the  Boulevard Poissonnière, yet  another excellent opening from the Experimental cocktail group (Grand Pigalle Hotel, Balagan, Beef Club), who also run The Shell on the ground floor. In terms of the view, there isn’t much of a panorama, but if you fancy a view of some typically Parisian limestone façades and quaint rooftops, this is your place.

5.  Bar le Perchoir

  • Saint-Ambroise
  • price 2 of 4

Bar le Perchoir

Huge, vibesey and always thronging, the original Ménilmontant Perchoir has outsize comfy seats, cute floral decor and large communal tables, making for a proper night out. There are few things more satisfying than watching the sun set over Sacré-Coeur – and few places better than to see it than here. Our top tip? Come around 5.30pm (or after about 10pm) if you want to be sure of getting a table.

6.  TacTac Skybar

TacTac Skybar

On the 27th floor of the leaning twin towers designed by Jean Nouvel, the TacTac Skybar (not the greatest name, we’ll admit) at the TOO Hotel  showcases a completely unprecedented and truly fabulous view of Paname. No monuments on the horizon, but a crazy panorama that puts this corner of the 13th on par with LA or Tokyo (especially at night, with the strings of traffic on the beltway). To drink: a very short menu of five cocktails (€14-16), heavy on sugar and fruit, as well as small plates for high-flying appetisers: go for minty green Hulk edamame hummus (€8) or classic burrata (€12). But anyway, what a view!

7.  Le Tout-Paris

Le Tout-Paris

As you arrive at Le Tout-Paris , the view monopolises all attention, and you rush to the balcony to soak it all in. The Pont Neuf is within a stone’s throw, the entire Left Bank in CinemaScope, and with good timing, you might even catch a sunset... Truly a unique spot! To accompany this VIP view and U-shaped marble, expect (very) premium prices. Best enjoyed with a drink facing the Seine if possible, but the terrace at the back overlooking the slates of Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois ain’t too shabby either.

8.  Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers

Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers

Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers is an intimate terrace that fits about 30. Come here to bob along to a lilting summer soundtrack with cocktails and rosé, with a view of the nearby Centre Pompidou, the Eiffel Tower, Place de la République and the Louvre... as views go, it’s pretty good. Usually open April through to September.

9.  Roof

Roof

Roof was born when Hotel Madame Rêve unfolded tables, lounge chairs and umbrellas on the roof of the former Louvre post office. The results are colossal (250 seats and just as many green plants); Dominique Perrault's arches overlook the flying buttresses of Saint-Eustache, the pipes of Beaubourg, and the rooftops of Paris. The cocktail menu might be a bit timid, but we’ll forgive all for the view.

10.  The rooftop at Mama Shelter

  • Boutique hotels
  • 20e arrondissement
  • 5 out of 5 stars

The rooftop at Mama Shelter

Opened in 2008, the eldest of the Mama Shelter family continues to liven up its corner of the 20th arrondissement. Designed by Philippe Starck, the hotel showcases a vibrant and eclectic decor, with at its peak a rooftop terrace surrounded by reeds, giving it a kind of carefree beach atmosphere: lounge chairs to soak up the vitamin D, a BBQ, games, colourful umbrellas and classic cocktails. On Saturdays, they do a burgers & milkshakes thing from 12-3pm which basically feels like you’re on a rooftop in LA.

11.  The rooftop at Hotel Paradiso

The rooftop at Hotel Paradiso

After cinemas, bookshops and a concept store, MK2 has continued to diversify, now with the Hotel Paradiso, just a stone’s throw from Place de la Nation. If there were Oscars for rooftops, it’s doubtful that Paradiso’s rooftop would sweep: its modest size means you pretty much have to reserve a table before coming, the view of Paris isn’t mind-blowing, and the menu is pretty slim (i.e. a few bottled beers and Moscow Mule at €15). Fortunately, the abundance of trees and plants gives this rooftop a really fun vibe, and the Sunday night screenings make up for everything, to be honest.

Frame Brasserie & Rooftop

Rooftop bar Frame Brasserie & Rooftop in Paris

Frame Brasserie & Rooftop Rooftop Bar in Paris

Summer rooftop for California vibes and Eiffel Tower views.

At the lovely hotel Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel you find Frame Brasserie, which brings a large slice of Californian touch to the heart of Paris.

The luminous and stylish indoor restaurant and bar is a year-round venue, but during the warmer months you can enjoy al-fresco dining and drinks. Both streetside and, best of all, up on the 10th floor Frame Rooftop (or 10ème Ciel Rooftop Éphémère as it also is known).

The balcony-like terrace comes with a mix of dining tables, comfy beach-chairs and one really unique selling point: close-up an amazing views over the majestic Eiffel Tower.

Run by Chef Andrew Wigger, Frame serves a Californian menu influenced by subtle French flavors. Fresh and creative, the menu is reinvented every month, but it is always filled with produce from the restaurants own organic vegetable garden.

Just as with the food, the Frame Bar also serves seasonal creations, filled with aromatic herbs and other ingredients from the vegetable garden. Whimsical and refrshing signature cocktails are mixed with a wide selection of wines and some champagne and beers.

Frame is open from early breakfast to late at night every day, but since the rooftop is both seasonal and quite small, we recommend making reservations and checking availability before you visit. Well worth it for the chance to enjoy some sunny cocktails or a romantic dinner with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

5 Best Rooftop Bars in Paris With A View

Warm weather has arrived in Paris, and the city is exploding with people wanting to enjoy the warm weather in the summer months. The entertaining space of most Parisians is at their local café terrace in their arrondissement. (neighborhood) In recent years, the city has seen a surge in rooftop terrace openings. This expands the areas Parisians can enjoy on sunny days aside from the parks, Seine, and outside terrace. A lot of these include hotels and restaurants getting in on the action. It is the perfect place to enjoy delicious cocktails with a beautiful view of Paris. I have tried many of these rooftop spots over the years. This is my top 5 list of best rooftop bars in Paris to enjoy on your next trip.

The Best Rooftop Bars in Paris

eiffel tower Paris view Galeries Lafayette

One of the original spots for a rooftop terrace in Paris is Galeries Lafayette , a department store in the city’s center. This is one of the best places in Paris to see panoramic views, including the Palais Garnier and other classic Parisian monuments. It is free to go to the top, and I highly recommend stopping by. The stained glass ceiling is also something not to be missed.

I recently stayed at Hôtel Dame des Arts in Paris this spring, located in the Latin Quarter. The rooftop has some of the best views in Paris, and I will not lie when I say I partly booked the hotel for the views. My room on the 7th floor had similar views with the privacy of my balcony. Due to the weather, the cocktail bar wasn’t officially open during my stay, but you could grab a cocktail from the main bar in the lobby and take it to the roof to enjoy the Paris skyline at sunset.

5 best rooftop bars in Paris with a view everyday parisian

The hotel’s location is extremely close to Notre Dame, which you can see from the rooftop bar terrace. You will be amazed at the view of the Eiffel Tower and Paris rooftops. It feels like you were just transported to a movie set as soon as the elevator doors open. You can also see the Sacre Coeur and other Paris monuments from the 360-degree rooftop view in the center of the city.

The hotel has updated the rooftop rules since last year. You can now book a table online and enjoy the space for two hours. I highly recommend booking to overlap with sunset. You cannot beat this view.

Sequoia Rooftop Bar

the best rooftops in Paris everyday parisian

The Sequoia rooftop bar is a part of the Kimpton St. Honoré Paris hotel, just a stone’s throw away from Boulevard Haussmann. I stayed at the hotel just when it opened last year, and the rooftop wasn’t open yet due to the weather and the fact that it is not the summer season for rooftops. As a hotel guest, I could see the view and experience the rooftops of Paris from Sequoia. It has a stunning view of the famous landmarks of Paris, including a very close view of the Opéra Garnier, which shouldn’t be missed. There is a 40 euro minimum spend for the rooftop, which should be considered before booking.

Madame Rêve Best Paris Rooftop Bars

bar rooftop tour eiffel

Madame Rêve  is located in the heart of the city of light, providing incredible views of the rooftops of Paris, including the Centre Pompidou. The rooftop of the hôtel Madame Rêve is open to the public with an open-air terrace. It is a popular bar, and I highly recommend making reservations online here. We could grab a table without a reservation, and I think we were in luck with timing. They offer good cocktails, music, and a lively scene for people to watch. It’s a bonus that you can have private events here on the part of the large roof for dinner with friends or an event that happened during our visit.

bar rooftop tour eiffel

The food menu doesn’t start until 6 p.m., but it looks incredible and is worth a return visit for me to try. A cocktail menu is available with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and a beer and fine wines menu.

Le Tout Paris  Rooftop Bar

pont neuf Paris sunset

You will find  Le Tout Paris  at the top of Cheval Blanc. It’s a magical view of Pont Neuf, Place Dauphine, The Seine, and the Eiffel Tower. It is one of the best rooftop bars in Paris and has an incredible city view. The drinks menu has classic cocktails, mocktails, and specialty drinks. Drinks will run around 30 euros, which is standard for the higher hotels. The view is worth it!

le tout Paris cocktail bar and rooftop

During my visit, it was cold, so I snuck in and out around sunset for photos and to enjoy the view on the terrace. Due to the weather and temperature, they had no tables on their outdoor terrace. I expect Le Tout Paris to be immensely popular with guests and visitors during the warmer months. We did not have a reservation during our visit and walked in for a seat at the bar. During your visit and peak times, this may not be the case, so plan accordingly.

The Peninsula Paris Hotel L’Oiseau Blanc

bar rooftop tour eiffel

L’Oiseau Blanc is a two-star Michelin restaurant with an incredible view of Paris. It is a splurge, but you can enjoy this spectacular view if the price is within your budget.

bar rooftop tour eiffel

The Peninsula Hotel has a beautiful rooftop restaurant and bar that doesn’t get enough attention. Here, you can enjoy a cocktail with a view. Rooftop hours are 6 – 10:30, and guests can enjoy cocktails off the menu. A minimum of 60 euros per person is requested to enjoy the rooftop.

Other rooftop bars in Paris to consider for your next trip to Paris.

Terrass Hotel is always on the rooftop list, and I went to discover it, but it didn’t have the best service, so I can’t recommend it. There are a few other rooftop bars in Montmartre, including Hôtel Rochechouart, but it wasn’t open for terrace season when I popped by. Mama Shelter has an east and west rooftop location in Paris a bit further out of the center of Paris. Their pizza is one of my favorites in Paris and is worth exploring if you are in that direction.

12 Best Rooftop Bars in Paris

July 2, 2024

Best Rooftop bars in Paris

With the arrival of summer in Paris, also comes the arrival of rooftop season. As the founder of En Route to Rêverie I adore being in Paris in summer. Parisians and tourists alike ascend to the tops of the buildings of the French capital to take advantage of sweeping 360-degree views, breezes and good cocktails.

Paris’s skyline is home to so many iconic landmarks and so when you seek out the below spots I can tell you without a doubt that you will be rewarded with some epic views of the city of light.

12 Best Rooftop Bars In Paris

More and more cocktail bars have opened in Paris in recent years and many of them work to take advantage of Paris with a view. And, as much as I love a buzzy Paris cafe terrace, there’s nothing like seeing Paris from above – particularly in the summer!

Read on to bookmark the following best rooftop bars in Paris to enjoy on your next summertime visit in Paris.

Hotel Raphael Best Rooftop Bars in Paris

Hotel Raphael

The rooftop at Hotel Raphael is one of my favorite addresses thanks to its rooftop bar in Paris with an amazing Eiffel Tower view. In addition to the view of the Eiffel Tower, you can also visit the other side of the rooftop for an epic view of the Arc de Triomphe as well thanks to this hotels location just off the Champs-Élysées.

Cocktail prices here are steep but worth it for the views! Be sure to dress up for this spot.

Terrass Hotel

As the name suggests, this hotel at 12-14 Rue Joseph de Maistre boasts beautiful views high atop Paris thanks to its Montmartre location. Built in 1911, the Terrass Hotel is close to the Sacré-Coeur and their bar and rooftop offer panoramic views of Paris that are particularly great to watch the sunset in Paris.

Best Rooftop bars in Paris

Kimpton St. Honoré Sequoia Bar

If you’re not a guest staying at the Kimpton, this panoramic view of Paris will come at the cost of a minimum spend of 40€ per person. But you can’t beat seeing over the Paris rooftops, the Palais Garnier Opera and the Eiffel Tower. From this rooftop you can also see Sacré-Coeur, Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe so it is a particularly fun rooftop to really enjoy seeing many of Paris’s landmarks all from one spot.

Interested in staying at the Kimpton St. Honoré? Contact me to learn more and book with VIP amenities.

Mama Shelter

The Mama Shelter East and Mama Shelter West both offer rooftops but the East property’s rooftop bar is beloved by Parisians and given its location, a bit further out of Central Paris makes this a more affordable spot for rooftop drinks.

La Suite Girafe

La Suite Girafe

Located on the 9th floor of the Cité de l’Architecture and Heritage Centre, “La Suite Girafe” is the former flat of the curator who had a private rooftop terrace with a panoramic view of the whole of Paris in the 1930s. It now has 100 seats and is open for lunch and dinner and also has a small bar on the rooftop. Reservations are a must.

Perruche at Printemps

This rooftop restaurant in the Printemps Haussmann department store serves up classic Provencal cuisine paired with French Riviera vibes. You’ll dine or drink with Eiffel Tower views. Reservations recommended.

Bonnie at the SO/ Hotel

Bonnie at the SO/ Hotel

This newer hotel on the edge of the Marais and just off the Seine River has both the Bonnie Rooftop Bar and the Bonnie Restaurant which offer beautiful views over the Paris rooftops.

This hotel is also a great option for your accommodations in Paris if you’re looking for an Eiffel Tower view room that comes in under $1,000 / a night.

Best Rooftop bars in Paris - Roof at Madame Rêve

Eiffel Tower Views in Paris from Galeries Lafayette Rooftop

Interested in great rooftop views of Paris without cocktail bars? Galeries Lafaytte offers amazing views over Paris and is entirely free to visit!

Enter the department store off of Rue de la Chaussée-d’Antin and then head to the 8th floor to see the views.

Créatures Paris

However, if you’d like to dine with the view atop Galeries Lafayette, you can do so at Créatures which is a vegetarian restaurant atop the department store’s roof. Be sure you request some seating with shade on a hot day as otherwise it gets very warm in the direct sunlight!

Reservations highly encouraged as otherwise there is usually a long queue.

Peninsula Paris Rooftop

Le Rooftop at The Peninsula Paris

Sitting atop the hotel, offering panoramic views over Paris, Le Rooftop at this five star hotel has views of the French Capital’s most iconic monuments inclusive of the Eiffel Tower. While reservations are not accepted, this is a good spot to go late night in Paris once the sun is setting so you can ideally catch the Eiffel Tower sparkling.

Their menu offers a variety of creative cocktails and a bar menu of small dishes to be enjoyed which is helpful given a minimum consumption (food or beverage) of 60€ per person will be required to guarantee access to the Rooftop*. *Unless you’re a guest of the hotel which absolves you of the minimum.

The top 12 prettiest rooftop bars in Paris

rooftop bar at Hôtel Dame des Arts

Paris’ rooftops, floating between the endless azure sky above and grey cobblestone streets below, have always conjured a world of seclusion and romance. Add in a Dry Martini and you have one of the city’s great joys: the rooftop bar. Blessedly, in sync with the arrival of numerous it-hotels, recent times have seen a swathe of striking new rooftop bars  joining the city’s skyline, alleviating our pedestrian burdens with the promise of altitude, views, and a cocktail or two.

Paris is a city long loved for its bars – preferably enjoyed from a sunny terrace – but its rooftop bar scene ups the ante, whisking you to a perch amid the capital’s iconic zinc roofscape. Come spring, as the al fresco aperitif hits its stride, Paris' rooftop bars also reopen for the season, allowing visitors to rise above the sticky stone streets to watch the sunset over an ocean of roofs instead. Yes, you’ll pay over the odds for those views – icons like Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower lining up on the horizon – but serious cocktails and superior bar snacks will help to sweeten the deal. Whether you seek ritzy rooftops that recreate the fields of Provence or more indie locales highlighting innovative drinks and arthouse films, we’ve visited the City of Light’s best rooftop bars so you can sip your next St-Germain Spritz tout de suite.

Le Toit de la Tour paris rooftop bar

Le Toit de la Tour

Paris icon La Tour d’Argent, the city’s oldest restaurant, recently emerged from renovation with three entirely new spaces – the pick of which is this stunning rooftop bar, courtesy of interiors whizz Franklin Azzi. Set on the 7th floor, with heady views of the Pont de la Tournelle and Seine snaking into the distance, the venue is haute in all ways: more the place to splash serious cash on a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal (perhaps with a rare cigar) than grab a cheap glass of vino. Everything is relative, though, and a visit is still far more affordable than dining one floor down in the legendary Michelin-star restaurant (happily, chef Yannick Franques also oversees the roof’s simpler seasonal finger food). If you’re up for a bigger meal and can’t stretch to the restaurant, another new addition is the 30s-style ground-floor venue the Bar des Maillets d’Argent, which morphs from café to cocktail spot by night.

Address: Le Toit de la Tour at La Tour d’Argent, 15 Quai de la Tournelle, Paris 75005 Open: Mid-April to September Website: tourdargent.com

rooftop bar at Hôtel Dame des Arts

Rooftop Bar at Hôtel Dame des Arts

Few visitors to the rooftop of this slick new Left Bank hotel resist the incredible photo ops – a mighty 360-degree panorama of Paris, from the Sacré-Coeur to the Eiffel Tower and La Défense looming in the hinterland. Very much the place to be (its sibling, the Hôtel des Grands Voyageurs , isn’t lacking in the cool stakes either), the cocktail list runs short but aims high, with notably original signatures like the Ipanema (featuring Campari infused with coconut oil) offered alongside a beautifully tart umeshu-spiked spritz, and premium gin and tonic pairings. The food menu is similarly concise, nominally paying homage to Mexico but ranging further afield via dishes like Georgian-style pkhali (tapenades), which arrive in spinach, beetroot and white corn versions. Do try to get a table on the right-hand side – the bar at the far end also has excellent views – to drink in the splendour of the Eiffel Tower.

Bar Sur Le Toit in paris

Bar Sur Le Toit at La Fantaisie

Forget muzak: as you ride up to the 7th-floor bar of the new Faubourg Montmartre hotel La Fantaisie , you’re greeted by the surreal soundtrack of chirping birds, reflecting the venue’s bucolic tone (Rue Cadet, where it sits, is named after master gardeners Jacques and Jean Cadet). Once you’ve recovered from the candy-striped wallpaper and pink velvet dominating the bar – the hotel’s décor is by maximalist Martin Brudnizki, also behind Annabel’s in London – head out into the secret garden-like terrace, where tables sit amid olive trees. Chef Dominique Crenn, whose San Francisco restaurant holds three stars, has leant a California vibe to the cocktails, which win extra points for their names (the Twin Peaks Swizzle, say). From the roof, you can spot another of the hotel’s joys below: the epic courtyard garden – an explosion of parasols and plants – adjoining Crenn’s on-site restaurant, Golden Poppy.

Address: Bar Sur Le Toit at Hôtel La Fantaisie, 24 Rue Cadet, 75009 Paris Open: All-year Website: lafantaisie.com

Roof de Madame Reve Paris

ROOF at Madame Rêve

You can hear the sparkle of conversation before the lift doors even open. High atop the iconic Louvre Post Office building, in the dreamy Madame Rêve Hotel , this hanging garden is pretty much the definition of a destination bar. Well-heeled Parisians sprawl out playing pool, smoking at the bar, and reclining on the lounge chairs strategically oriented towards the golden sunset. The city also sprawls before their eyes: St. Eustache church, Notre Dame (whose restoration advances apace) and a distant Eiffel Tower all vying for attention alongside the dreamy cocktails and Japanese-style finger food. Arrive early (hotel guests get right of way until 4pm) in “chic, elegant attire” – as the establishment requests – to snag a table with the best views. Then try the Summer Garden (Hendrick’s plus plant caviar, St-Germain and Prosecco) or fresh sushi rolls at the gigantic marble bar (yes, there’s an on-site sushi master).

Squoia at the Kimpton St. Honor Paris

Sequoia Rooftop Bar at the Kimpton St. Honoré

Sandwiched between the imposing Place Vendôme and the spectacular Opéra Garnier, Sequoia unsurprisingly delivers on beauty. Despite the bar’s small size, it has some of the best views of Paris; you can see nearly every major monument in the city. While the bar’s patrons are more tourists than locals (many are hotel guests), the views and hospitality are the reasons to go – indeed, while Paris has its fair share of surly staff, Sequoia is a welcome exception. When it comes to the menu, the finger food (sushi, hummus, etc.) is limited and expensive, but tasty and served with care. There’s also an extensive range of spritzes if you tire of the classic Aperol; the Parisian features Paris-born artisanal plant liqueur Candide. Note that there’s a minimum spend of €40 per head, though you’ll likely go over that if you have a bite and a drink.

Address:   Sequoia Rooftop Bar at the Kimpton St. Honoré, 27-29 Boulevard des Capucines, 75002 Paris Open:  Spring to autumn on sunny days Website: sequoiabar.com

Kitchen Garden Rooftop at Brach Paris

Kitchen Garden Rooftop at Brach

While bars by nature provide a respite from the bustle of daily life,  Brach ’s rooftop bar lets you escape it entirely. Rare among its kind, the venue doubles as the hotel restaurant’s “potager” (kitchen garden), replete with berries, herbs, a Norwegian bath that can be privatised – and, even more unusually, a chicken coop; the result is unusually tranquil for Paris, with wafts of lavender from the garden drifting through the crowd. At Brach, every detail counts (as one would expect, given that the five-star design was by Philippe Starck). Cocktails, while as expensive as the chi-chi neighbourhood would suggest, are elevated takes on classics: the Aperol Spritz replaces standard prosecco with French Champagne and the Prado deploys premium Cuban rum. The bar snacks are meanwhile virtuous and not to be missed: you can either go for a fruit platter or a market garden basket featuring vegetables with a dip of your choice. While an older clientele might surround you than at other hip rooftop bars (perhaps due to the hotel’s bourgeois location), this only adds to the blissfully serene vibe.

Address:   Kitchen Garden Rooftop at Brach, 1-7 Rue Jean Richepin, 750016 Paris Open:  From spring (closed mid-July to late August) Website :  brachparis.com

Rooftop Bar of the Hôtel Rochechouart Paris

Maggie Rooftop

Sitting atop the sexy boutique Hôtel Rochechouart and setting a stylish note with its striped green and white awnings, this glamorous rooftop bar in central Pigalle is one of Paris’ best-kept secrets. Maggie has a panoramic view of the city, with a mesmerising spotlight on the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, located just north of here. The cocktails are creative and fun, with spirits from Japan ’s haute distillery Nikka Whisky the star of the show; the Yuzu Julep replaces the usual bourbon with Nikka Coffey gin, also swapping out mint for tarragon. On the food front, sharing plates mine newly launched restaurant Maggie’s modern Med-meets-NYC ethos: grilled octopus and sauce vierge riding alongside prime Charolais-beef pastrami toast.

Address : Maggie Rooftop, 55 Boulevard de Rochechouart - 75009 Paris Open:  Now Website :  hotelrochechouart.com

Rooftop at the Hôtel mk2 Paradiso

Most visitors don’t pilgrimage to Nation, but it’s well worth heading east for this cinephile-approved rooftop bar – attached to the first-ever hotel venture by French arthouse cinema giant mk2. You may be confused when you arrive: the hotel’s relatively discreet entrance is next to the chain’s local cinema, and the lift leading to the rooftop bar is also easy to miss. However, once the doors open and you climb the steps, you find yourself in a grassy oasis. Sit in a swing chair to enjoy the sunshine or nab a larger table on the teak deck below – both have views over the neighbourhood’s skyline, with the Eiffel Tower just about visible in the distance. If you seek a substantial meal, this isn’t the place, but for margaritas and typical movie snacks like popcorn and hot dogs, it’s just the ticket – and, on Sunday evenings during summer months, the bar plays classic and cult films starting at 9.30pm.

Address :  Rooftop at the Hôtel mk2 Paradiso, 135 Boulevard Diderot, 75012 Paris Open:  Early summer to September Website :  mk2hotelparadiso.com

The Shed at the Hôtel des Grands Boulevards Paris

The Shed at the Hôtel des Grands Boulevards

With only a smattering of tables and views onto the calm hotel courtyard below (though there is one banquette with a street view), The Shed might be Paris’ smallest rooftop bar (it certainly lives up to its name). Teetering above the Grands Boulevards below, one can escape the noisy streets and enjoy a quiet apéro hour high above it all. Given that high-flying owners the Experimental Group started with a pioneering Paris craft cocktail bar, the drinks list has nothing to envy from rivals when it comes to creativity; the cocktails are also markedly well-priced for Paris and split into three categories denoting their ABV: No Shed, One Shed and the boozier Two Shed – the latter including De Notre Potager, a libation featuring infusions and herbs plucked from the bar’s rooftop garden. The Shed also serves snacks such as quesadillas and tartines with tuna, tomato, and harissa made in the restaurant below. If the weather lets you down, retreat to the ground-floor Shell Bar, which is invariably buzzing with sophisticates.

Address:   The Shed at the Hôtel des Grands Boulevards, 17 Boulevard Poissonnière, 75002 Paris Open:  Spring to autumn Website:   grandsboulevardshotel.com

Villa M Paris

Villa M Rooftop

Another Philippe Starck design, four-star La Villa M is a recent addition to Paris’ 15th arrondissement – a lesser-stomped zone not far from Montparnasse and the superb Musée Bourdelle. The leafy green rooftop bar (mirroring the hotel’s sustainable ambitions, as per the foliage-packed façade) seemingly levitates in mid-air, surveying the Eiffel Tower – and, alas, the eyesore that is the Tour de Montparnasse. To drink, there are signature cocktails (such as the mezcal- and vermouth-fuelled Yucatan) and classic favourites (margaritas come frozen or spicy). There’s also a robust wine menu. Rather unusually by Paris roof bar standards, there’s even an extensive food menu, ranging from snackable stuff (tarama or hummus with pita) to top-loaded bruschettas, salads and heartier rib-eye steaks with frites and béarnaise sauce.

Address:   Villa M Rooftop, 24-30 Boulevard Pasteur, 75015 Paris Open:  April to September Website:   en.hotelvillam-paris15.com

Rooftop Le Molito Paris

Rooftop Le Molitor

Fancy having a cocktail at a veritable Paris institution? The Molitor first opened its doors in 1929, allowing the chicest Parisians to swim, drink and mingle around a sublime aquamarine pool. Today, the hotel (reborn a decade after falling into disrepair in the eighties) is a beautifully refurbished relic of Paris’ Années Folles, more akin to Miami than France thanks to its glorious Art Deco architecture. Rooftop Le Molitor allows guests to gather for ambrosial cocktails (drinks partner St-Germain features heavily, from spritzes to the curaçao-spiked Rio de Janeiro 2016) or meals overlooking the iconic outdoor pool and the Eiffel Tower beyond. They also offer regular Sunday workshops in mixology or street art. Reservations for meals are essential, but walk-ins can always grab drinks in the rooftop’s more casual Solarium.

Address :  Rooftop Le Molitor, 6 Avenue de la Porte Molitor, 75016 Paris Open:  May to September Website :  molitorparis.com

Le Bar à Bulles at La Machine du Moulin Rouge

Rising above the crooked streets of Montmartre atop concert venue La Machine du Moulin Rouge is that ever-elusive thing known by the travel press (and consistently sought out by the savvy traveller) as a “hidden gem”: Le Bar à Bulles (Bubble Bar in English). The crowd is young and hip –  very  hip. So hip, that one wonders if they come with the eclectic décor, all mismatched chairs and hanging plants. Sit at an outdoor table under the light of a funky lamp that must have come from a French granny’s house and look onto the Moulin Rouge’s famous giant red windmill (one of the blades famously fell off in April 2024). Drinks are reasonably priced and delectable; their “gintos” are organic, and their wines slant natural or biodynamic. The music can only be described as “Shazam-able”: it’s new, loud and bouncy. The bar also hosts multiple well-attended monthly events (magazine launches, bartending courses, and art talks are all par for the course) and a popular Sunday brunch (reservation essential).

Address:   Le Bar à Bulles at La Machine du Moulin Rouge, 90 Boulevard de Clichy, 75018 Paris Open:  All-year Website: lamachinedumoulinrouge.com

A single, quirky quotation mark suggests a hip and contemporary venue. In fact, Le Cabanon Perché above the Terrass” Hotel is a sophisticated bar with breathtaking 7th-floor vistas. Way out in the 18th arrondissement, the unbroken views of the Eiffel Tower at night are exceptional. Tables blessed with superior views are highly sought after, but sunset views can be enjoyed from anywhere in the spacious bar. Reservations are not required.

Signature cocktails are made with Citadelle botanical gins and the whisky selection is long . Several fruity mocktails are available, along with a selection of sharing plates — charcuterie, fromage, and other appetizers. Styled like a surf shack, Le Cabanon Perché temporarily transports you away from the urban hustle. Looking out over boho Montmartre and the majestic Basilica Sacré-Cœur, it also happens to be one of the best-located rooftop bars in Paris.

Le Perchoir – BHV Marais

Rooftop bars in Paris, 220926152752001

Located above the venerable BHV (Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville) department store, Le Perchoir (The Perch) is one of the better-known rooftop bars in Paris. Once again, it’s the jaw-dropping panorama that attracts crowds. Dating back to 1856, the BHV is housed in a handsome Second Empire building. The bar has a decidedly more modern feel, allied to stylish and seasonally changing décor. Even sans belles vues, Le Perchoir would be a fine place to unwind. But positioned seven floors up, the rich cityscape unfurls beneath. Directly opposite is the magnificent city hall, Hôtel de Ville de Paris. Notre-Dame and the Eiffel Tower augment the compelling perspective.

There is an extensive and nuanced drink and cocktail menu to enhance the experience. A handful of snacks like banh mi, plus the ubiquitous charcuterie and fromage-laden planches help soak up the drinks while you soak up the views. Le Perchoir only opens as the sun sets, and the continuously reinvented venue knows what its patrons want. Soaring skyline views over the twinkling City of Light and evenings lubricated with expertly crafted drinks. Look out for Le Perchoir de l’Est (10th arr.) and Le Perchoir Porte de Versailles (15th arr.) for some other rooftop gems from the same operators.

  • Nearest Métro: Hôtel de Ville (1)

Laho Rooftop

Parisian sunsets are best enjoyed from above the rooftops. Laho Rooftop is a laidback bar with beanbags and unbroken 360-degree views over the capital. It is an idyllic spot to watch the sun disappear over the horizon. Patience might be required at this popular bar. There is a strict 200-person limit, and reservations are not accepted. Take heart, the bar is popular with good reason.

In addition to views over the Seine and central Paris, the green and verdant Laho emphasizes comfort and tranquility. Plant-lined wooden decks, artificial lawns, and cushiony seating infuse the bar with an urban garden effect . You get the sense that the design was inspired by the nearby Coulée Verte René- Dumont . Much like the beloved floral walkway, it feels comfortingly detached from city life.

As with most rooftop bars in Paris, signature cocktails and sharing boards top the menu. Look out for the infrequent DJ-led soirées spéciales (ticket reservations are required.) Check ahead to avoid disappointment, or book yourself in for the party. No waiting required! Open to midnight, Laho Rooftop manages to be both a soothing escape from metropolitan life and one of the best places from which to observe it.

  • Nearest Métro: Austerlitz (5, 10), Gare de Lyon (1, 14)

Le bar sur le toit – Hôtel Rochechouart

Le bar sur le toit (‘the bar on the roof’) of Hôtel Rochechouart is a simple affair. An unpretentious terrace lined with potted plants and garden furniture. It also happens to have knockout views over free-spirited Montmartre. Commanding attention is the magnificent Sacré-Cœur Basilica. But you also get 360-degree views that sweep over Paris from this 9th-floor bar.

Completing the la dolce vita effect is a short menu of Italian-inspired dishes washed down with Italian beers and wines. Cocktails, including alcohol-free options, continue the theme: Week-end à Rome, Luigi’s Negroni, for example. Despite being in short proximity to spirited Pigalle and the can-can dancers of the Moulin Rouge, the rooftop bar at Hôtel Rochechouart remains one of the more modest rooftop bars in Paris. Albeit with resolutely immodest views.

  • Nearest Métro: Pigalle (2, 12)

ROOF (Madame Rêve)

230718130916001-roof-paris

The upscale Madame Rêve hotel has joined the exclusive club of rooftop bars in Paris with style. Their restaurant bar in the heart of Paris delivers spectacular views of Notre Dame Cathedral and landmarks like the Panthéon and SaintEustache Church. The plant-bedecked space exudes elegance and has a secret garden feel that adds a sense of urban escape. The long glass canopy fills the space with sunlight, inviting guests to see iconic monuments anew. Sadly, the views do not extend north towards Montmartre.

Cocktails and finger food are on the menu. Many guests linger for dinner, making the most of the views and the balanced menu for all tastes. Sushi and sashimi headline. Few rooftop bars in Paris can match the close-up views of emblematic buildings. Reservations are essential.

Hôtel Dame des Arts

La rive gauche has gained a stunning new skyline terrace designed by Raphaël Navot with 360° views that vanish into the horizon. The Eiffel Tower and SacréCœur Basilica punctuate a panorama that will be a fixture on many tourist itineraries.

The laidback setting at Hôtel Dame des Arts (formerly Le 43) welcomes viewhungry guests with a streamlined drinks and finger food menu. Prices are high, even for rooftop bars in Paris. But the chic stylings laden with soft seating and Mediterranean overtones compensate. The terrace is open all year, and reservations are not required. The ambiance is decidedly chilled, and the backdrop is exhilarating. A new rooftop star is born.

  • Price: €€€€
  • Address: 4 Rue Danton, 75006 (Saint-Germain-des-Prés)

Terrasse du 7ème ciel - Café Messika

The sprawling department stores on the chic Grands Boulevards are home to several bars and restaurants with stellar views. Among them is Café Messika above the Printemps department store. It’s an accessible café-bar with the expected cocktails and drinks, albeit a pretty vanilla selection. The sharing planches are more inviting (tempura gambas, miam). There’s even a kid’s menu, a rarity among rooftop bars in Paris.

180° views sweep past the Eiffel Tower, with the ornate domed towers of the department store and Palais Garnier in the foreground. Shoppers needing a pause and curious visitors looking to work their camera’s panorama function will appreciate this unfussy space with gorgeous views where you can relax with family or friends.

Rooftop Bars Paris: Hidden Gems

Rooftop bars in Paris are often a seasonal event – when the sun stops shining, many of them quietly lower the parasols and close the bar until next year. It can be hard to get noticed, especially with more and more rooftop bars opening in Paris. That’s why we’re going to highlight some lesser-known gems among the chimneys and skylights of the city. A selection that includes some of the chicest and coolest rooftop bars in Paris.

Brach Paris

Brach Paris has transported a slice of the French countryside to the Parisian skyline. The rooftop bar at the 5-star hotel is a lush cocoon in the 16th arrondissement. Nestled in the hotel’s jardin potager (vegetable garden), seats and tables are discretely tucked into verdant, fragrant pockets of tranquility. The Phillippe Starck designed Brach hotel is a designer jewel. With renowned restaurants on lower floors, the cocktail bar amid the fruit trees is a ripe cherry on a decadent dessert.

A curious mix of international flavors is available from the mezze menu to ward off hunger. Cocktails created by mixology star Jérémy Bacquet are infused with fittingly herbal flavors. Perhaps it’s the off-the-beaten-path location, but prices are not eyewatering for such a luxurious experience. The Eiffel Tower is clearly visible less than a mile away — can it be a rooftop bar in Paris without it? — but you also enjoy 360-degree views sweeping east from western Paris. A unique perspective not found at other rooftop bars in Paris.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there is a Norwegian bath on the terrace for hire. It could be what your weary feet demand following an invigorating stroll around the nearby Bois de Boulogne. The 16th arrondissement may not top many visitor itineraries, but the botanical bar suspended in the sky is a singular experience , well worth a few additional Métro stops. Brach Rooftop Terrace

  • Nearest Métro: Rue de la Pompe or La Muette (9)

Ilvolo Bar Rooftop

The Ilvolo Bar sits on a Novotel hotel in unfashionable Montparnasse. It is an unheralded rooftop gem, one that many visitors overlook. The views from Montparnasse are surprisingly rewarding. After all, one local attraction that consistently draws visitors is the viewing platform on the 56th floor of Montparnasse tower. The views at Ilvolo Bar Rooftop don’t reach as far. However, you can kick back and enjoy them with a casual cocktail and enticing antipasti selection.

More a rooftop bar with a balcony, the views are compelling and the interior snug and agreeable. Visible latticework, of the kind Gustave Eiffel would appreciate, cleverly frame views from the windows. They help create an arresting border when taking photos of his iconic creation. A concise drinks menu, the ever-inescapable signature cocktails, and a cozy (read: weather-proof) lounge await visitors looking for a congenial watering hole in the under-appreciated 15th.

  • Nearest Métro: Vaugirard (12)

Le Rooftop at The Peninsula Hotel

“Le Rooftop” is a deceptively prosaic name. Atop the 5-star Peninsula Hotel, this terrace is a sophisticated affair with high-end prices . If you can look past the eyewatering bill, there is plenty to recommend this jewel in the upscale Chaillot district. The slimline terrace stretches out like a plant-lined finger across the roof, enhanced with the kind of stylish touches you’d expect from a first-class hotel. Needless to say, the v iews are sweeping , with the Eiffel Tower once again hogging the eye line.

Vegetarian tapas dishes from a renowned kitchen and lavish cocktails top the menu. Flavoring the victuals are herbs and honey harvested from the hotel’s exclusive rooftop garden. Underlining the hotel’s gastronomic credentials, a two Michelin Star restaurant shares the top floor, the acclaimed L’Oiseau Blanc. Casual visitors can skip the restaurant and head straight to the bar, although there is a €30 minimum spend. Don’t worry: a single cocktail will instantly get you over the line. No kidding, this is the most expensive bar on our list! There are more affordable rooftop bars in Paris, but none that marry an epicurean experience with stellar views quite as effectively as Le Rooftop.

  • Nearest Métro: Kléber (6)

Sequoia Rooftop Bar

Above one of the Grands Boulevards of Paris is a discrete, sophisticated terrace. One with views that skip across the elegant roofs of Haussmann’s Paris. A 360-degree patio in the heart of Paris with striking views in every direction. The crowning glory is the magnificent Palais Garnier, just a few chimneys away. No other rooftop bars in Paris afford such a compelling perspective over the elegant dome and ornate roof of the imperious landmark.

Leafy and refined, the Sequoia is popular with tourists and locals . Unlike many rooftop bars in Paris, reservations are accepted. They are also advisable, especially as the terrace only opens on sunny days, exacerbating demand. Part of the appeal is a punchy (and pricey) cocktail menu. Virgin cocktails are available. As is finger food (mainly tacos) to sponge up the inventive house cocktails. Layer on a DJ and an abundance of pot plants, and it equates to a welcoming inner-city refuge in the sky. You can only order food between midday and 3pm.

  • Address: 27-29 Bd des Capucines, 75002 (Opéra)
  • Nearest Métro: Opéra (3, 7, 8)

Pley Hôtel Rooftop Bar

You don’t have to stray far from the Champs-Élysées if you yearn for a tranquil bolt-hole from the hustle and bustle of the famous boulevard. The rooftop bar above the Pley Hôtel is a bright, secluded terrace that somehow manages to fly under the tourist radar in a popular area. Only open for summer, the rooftop bar embraces its moment in the sun with a breezy beach club vibe . While throughout the year, the Pley Hôtel pays homage to the rich heritage of French radio, so expect to hear a few new earworms.

Sharing plates and (you guessed it) mocktails and cocktails are served alongside unremarkable views of the Eiffel Tower . It’s fair to say the views are ordinary. Still, an easygoing atmosphere and prime location make the bar a welcome addition to the skyline. Worth noting that there’s a downstairs terrace bar should the sunshine fail to appear when you visit.

  • Nearest Métro: Ternes (2) George V (1)

Skybar Paris

Skybar Paris is a lively spot where cocktails and DJs set an upbeat tone where the views are just part of the fun. An international snacking menu (chicken stay, ceviche, and the like) lines up alongside a sparkling set of signature cocktails, led by the perky Perfect Sky, blending Japanese whisky and bitters with mouth-popping Sichuan peppers.

The bar and slim open air terrace revels in some of the most intoxicating views in Paris. Towering 32 floors above the streets, they stretch further than any other rooftop bar in Paris. Service and a chichi crowd may elicit the occasional grumble among the countless online reviews gushing about the vistas. Put them aside, and you get a contemporary and crisply-styled refuge looking out across the entirety of Paris.

  • Address: du Pullman, 19 Rue du Commandant René Mouchotte 32ème étage, 75014 (Montparnassse)
  • Nearest Métro: Gaîté – Joséphine Baker (13)

Hotel Raphaël Paris

5-star Hotel Raphaël only opens its sky garden terrace during summer months. Inevitably, it fills up when the sun beams as the open-air oasis boasts a breathtaking 360° outlook. Landmarks loom big and small, with a birds-view of the imposing Arc de Triomphe. Opening until nightfall (11 pm), sunset panoramas bewitch as patrons sip their customary cocktails and flutes of champagne. Sharing plates keeps urbane terrace dwellers replenished until the sun goes down.

Sofas and refined décor lean into the upscale vibe that defines many rooftop bars in Paris. Reservations are recommended, but don’t worry if it rains – you can decamp to the sumptuous bar-restaurants indoors.

  • Address: 17 Av. Kléber, 75116 (Trocadéro)

Windo Skybar

The Windo Skybar of the soaring Hyatt Regency is the place for jaw-dropping views over Paris. The elegant bar wraps around the 34th floor for a commanding panorama, with arrondissements neatly arranged like a toy town below.

The plush and comfortable setting serves the customary signature cocktails and small plates for sharing. The Windo Punch loaded with whisky, rum, champagne, spices, and maple syrup, does, indeed, pack a punch. As does the backdrop. When lit up, it’s magnificent. If you want the ultimate experience, book a spot for the Bastille Day firework spectacular.

  • Address: 3 Pl. du Général Kœnig, 75017 (Ternes)
  • Nearest Métro: Neuilly – Porte Maillot (1)

TOO TacTac Skybar

We round off our dizzying tour of the best rooftop bars in Paris with one of the latest additions. TOO TacTac Skybar is a swish offering occupying the 27th floor of the gleaming TOO Hotel. Stop for brunch or drop in for one of their signature cocktails and plates of mixed brochettes in the evening. Reservations are unnecessary, but advisable.

The exquisite setting channels an upscale bar with a members club personality (there is a dress code). Although far from the center, the panoramic views are exquisite too. An open terrace is made for sunsets., gifting La Ville-Lumière a glittering new skyline jewel.

  • Address: 65 Rue Bruneseau, 75013
  • Nearest Métro: Bibliothèque François-Mitterrand (14)

Rooftop Bars Paris: Laidback and Fun

It’s not always about the views with some of the best rooftop bars in Paris. Some terraces serve as convivial open-air spaces designed for good times under the stars. Here’s our selection of exceptional elevated bars where the views are merely an afterthought.

Rooftop Café Oz

Rooftop bar in Paris, 220926151837001

The Rooftop Café Oz is an oddity on our list. The views are comparatively disappointing, despite sitting directly on the banks of the Seine. Yet, it has quickly established itself as one of the hottest rooftop bars in Paris since opening in 2017. Café Oz compensates for unremarkable views with unbridled hedonistic energy, a hallmark of this Aussie-inspired chain of big, boisterous pubs.

It’s a venue where DJs pump out big tunes . Where giant screens show sports events or music videos and kaleidoscopic drinks line the kinetic bar. With a crowd- pleasing cocktail menu, not to mention a long list of shots, this is not a place for contemplative moments. Open to the early hours of the morning, Rooftop Café Oz is a Balearic-style party under Parisian skies. The views are inconsequential.

  • Note : A €20 fee (includes a drink) is charged Thursday to Sunday evenings.
  • Nearest Métro: Austerlitz (5, 10)

Le Bar à Bulles

220926154220001

The Moulin Rouge is one of the best-known nightlife venues in Paris. Less known is the bar perched on the theatre’s roof. Leafy, with splashes of red and a glimpse of the famous moulin (windmill) poking above the terrace, Le Bar à Bulles (Bubble Bar) mixes can-can energy with the gentler charms of a rooftop garden . Once part of the nightclub La Machine du Moulin Rouge, it now operates independently as a tapas and cocktail bar . There are no views to talk of. Instead, the bar serves as a cozy haven in a lively neighborhood.

The splashy, softly furnished interior bar would be at home in the Moulin Rouge. In contrast, the floral terrace has the air of a secret garden. Locals and tourists head there for the sharing plates, inexpensive cocktails , and their legendary brunches. Opening during the weekend, Le Bar à Bulles strikes a delicate balance between a cultivated rooftop garden and a lively nightspot. A secret sanctuary suspended above Paris’s effervescent red-light district.

Khayma Rooftop at Generator

The slick and modern Generator Hostel is home to one of the trendiest rooftop bars in Paris . Not far from modish Canal Saint Martin and boho Montmartre, the Khayma Rooftop bar is a popular destination in an area known for its edgy nightlife. The 9th-floor terrace hosts a sleek, modern bar . The showpiece is a canvas roof stretched on poles to resemble the eponymous khayma (Arabic for “tent”). Aside from the creative décor, what distinguishes Khayma Rooftop is a dramatic perspective on the soaring Sacré-Cœur Basilica and Butte Montmartre. An engaging view, ideal for a pre-dinner aperitif.

A rarity amongst enviably positioned rooftop bars in Paris, the drinks at Khayma Rooftop are inexpensive . Paris prices, but no hidden surcharge for the views. The inexpensive menu is a clue that the bar is in a hostel rather than a fancy hotel. A further clue: the decidedly cosmopolitan atmosphere, with backpackers and locals creating a welcoming melting pot. Remarkably, despite being a spacious hangout with a peppy DJ booth , Khayma Rooftop is closed by 10 pm. Considering the views and warm vibes, closing time might arrive too soon.

  • Nearest Métro: Colonel Fabien (2)

mk2 Hotel Paradiso

220930192201001, rooftop bars in Paris

The terrace at the Hotel Paradiso stands apart from most rooftop bars in Paris . It is a trendy open space that hosts unique rooftop cinema screenings in the height of summer. The hotel is operated by mk2, a cinema chain, and attached to a cinema complex. The love of movies is imprinted upon the hotel: from suites with movie projectors to private booths in one of the cinema halls. Cinephile enthusiasm spills onto the rooftop, with popcorn and folding chairs lined up for free film screenings on Sundays. No blockbusters — you can view them downstairs — but a diverse selection of films aimed squarely at film buffs.

Confusingly offering a très moderne snack menu — hot dogs, wasabi taramosalata — alongside decadent top-tier caviar, the bar attracts an intriguing and eclectic crowd. Near Place Nation in the quiet Picpus quartier, few landmarks are visible. Except for the dependable Eiffel Tower, of course. Yet, with live music, cocktails, and a beach club vib e, the Hotel Paradiso rooftop is worth the journey, especially for cinephiles and anyone looking for affable open-air bars.

  • Movie screenings start at 9.30pm every Sunday.
  • Nearest Métro: Reuilly – Diderot (1, 8)

Station M by Maison Montmartre

One of the least expensive rooftop bars in Paris sits on Maison Montmartre, a boutique hotel with commanding views over the vibrant quartier and Sacré-Cœur Basilica. The 8th-floor bar is simply furnished yet comfortable. 360-degree views steal top billing, yet Station M stands out for offering “perched pétanque.” Pétanque in the sky is a novel experience, guaranteed to sharpen your game against overthrows.

Complementing the boules and views are the ineludible cocktails and mocktails too. A familiar list of sharing plates — E.g. charcuterie and fromage planches, croque monsieur — and lunchtime opening make this an ideal stop for an apéritif dinatoire with views . Maison Montmartre is near the Boulevard Périphérique encircling Paris central Far from the tourist crowds, there is usually a free table. That makes Station M a savvy stop for Montmartre explorers seeking more skyline views. Especially if you crave a pastis and round of pétanque!

  • Nearest Métro: Porte de Clignancourt (4), Porte de Saint-Ouen (13)

Les Piaules - The People Hostel Belleville

Rooftop bars in Paris tend to be pockets of elegance nestled in fancy hotels in prime addresses. Les Piaules is a far more easygoing affair. Recently welcomed into the uber-hip The People hostel family, this is a fun and unpretentious place to recalibrate. Perched above Place de La Nation in cosmopolitan Belleville, the western-facing 180° delivers an alternative view of Paris, la Tour Eiffel twinkling in the distance.

Non-guests are welcome. Pizzas and other Italian bites refuel guests who can quench their thirst at a full bar with everyday prices. There are flashier rooftop bars in Paris, but Les Piaules is an affable refuge, with views to savor and a casual air in tune with the effervescent neighborhood.

  • Price: €-€€
  • Address: Pl. de la Nation, 75012 (Belleville)
  • Nearest Métro: Picpus (6)

Point Éphémère

Point Éphémère isn’t like other picks on this list. The cultural hotspot is an arts center with a bar. Out front, the calm waters of Canal Saint Martin flow.

A community den for students and bobo types who go for the irrepressible energy found in the exhibits and the crowds spilling onto the towpath. Upstairs, an urban garden spotted with potted plants and loungers, friends gathered around parasols and craft beers. Canal Saint Martin is the place to be if your thing is hanging out in branché venues on lazy summer evenings. And Point Éphémère far and away, the liveliest stop along the waterway.

  • Address: 200 Quai de Valmy, 75010
  • Nearest Métro: Jaurès (2, 5, 7B)

The Shed Paris

Rooftop Bar The Shed, Paris

The Shed is another newcomer who recently landed on the capital’s rooftops. Like many of the best rooftop bars in Paris, a busy hotel (Grands Boulevards) sits underneath. The tranquil space pitches itself as a garden of Eden, a tiny yet stylish plant-lined terrace with just enough room to raise your cocktail glass. There are no grand views, just an uplifting beguiling sense of being lost among the charismatic rooftops of the city.

The coziest spot is a banquette poised above the hotel courtyard. The cocktail menu is intriguing, with No Shed alcohol-free and Two Shed drinks that dial up the headspin. The Potager mixed with ingredients farmed directly from the verdant terrace stands out. A sparkling and intimate spot to unwind and drink on the not-so-fresh Parisian air with your oh-so-fresh cocktail.

  • Address: 17 Bd Poissonnière, 75002 (Sentier)
  • Nearest Métro: Grands Boulevards (8, 9)

La Canopée le Beffroi

Rooftop Bar La Canopée le Beffroi, Paris

Step off beaten paths and see Paris anew at La Canopée on the wrong side of the Périphérique. There you’ll find a gregarious welcome on its sizeable roof terrace. Overlooked by a menacing metal ape, the vibrant, music-filled terrace fills with residents sunning themselves and filling up on decent sharing boards and tapas featuring a few on-trend pub favorites, like fish and chips. Compared to central Paris, prices are as breezy as the rooftop, and they even have happy hours.

A leftfield choice for a rooftop bar in Paris. But there’s compelling energy and engaging views, with the cute Montrouge town hall just below. A fun place to unwind and experience Paris off the tourist trail.

  • Address: 17 Rue du Colonel Gillon, 92120 (Montrouge)
  • Nearest Métro: Mairie de Montrouge (4)
