Agni, Corfu – What’s It Like?

Thinking of booking a trip to Agni on Corfu? Here’s what to expect from this idyllic small resort .

Where is it?

Agni is on Corfu’s north-east coast , located north of Nissaki and south of  Kalami .

What’s the vibe like?

Agni Bay through the trees.

Agni isn’t a resort town , rather it’s a small cove with a pebble beach and a handful of waterfront tavernas that are well-known for their seafood dishes. Life here is simple but alluring.

It has become a popular dining destination for those staying in Corfu’s upmarket north-east coast. You’re as likely to see patrons drinking champagne as ouzo. Many a British politician has dropped anchor here for a lobster lunch.

There are a few villas up in the hills behind the beach and between Agni and Kalami, however most visitors don’t stay in Agni itself.

The most popular way to arrive is by boat – water taxis run up and down along the coast into the evening. But the tavernas also have some parking if you’d rather arrive by car.

Rocky coastline at Agni.

What’s the beach like?

Close-up of pebbles on Agni beach.

Agni is an east-facing beach consisting of small pebbles and shingle .

The water is crystal clear and the snorkelling in the wider area is fantastic.

There are several small wooden jetties which are busy throughout the day with small motor boats.

A short and easy walk along a coastal footpath brings you to a smaller unorganised beach at Gialiskari (pictured below). It has a natural atmosphere and you won’t hear any music here.

Sunloungers and a signpost for Gialiskari beach.

Activities and Amenities

Footpath signpost for Agni.

Agni is a tiny place and there’s not much to do here but relax, eat, and swim. The seas here are excellent for swimming and snorkelling.

Your accommodation provider should be able to help you book excursions around the island and beyond.

Private motorboat rentals from the waterfront will take you north around the coast or south to Corfu Town.

For watersports head to Nissaki or Kalami, and for diving the  Apollo Scuba Diving Centre which is based at Nissaki harbour.

The energetic can hike up Pantokrator , the highest peak on Corfu.

There are 3 tavernas on the beach but no other amenities. If you need shops head to Kassiopi .

Transport and Accessibility

Wooden jetty with motorboats on Agni beach.

From the airport :

Agni is a 45-minute drive from Corfu Airport and around 1 hour on the bus from Corfu Town.

A private transfer from the airport is around €60.

Agni is located just off the main coastal road running north from Corfu Town to Kassiopi which can be used for easy exploration of the area. The majority of the main road is flat and easy to drive but side roads down to the beaches and villas are often steep and gravelly.

Public transport :

Agni is served by Corfu’s Green Bus system, route A4 (for Kassiopi) and A5. There are daily buses from the KTEL bus station just outside Corfu Town. Tickets are around €3 one way (may be more expensive if you purchase from the driver rather than from a shop or kiosk).

Buses stop on the main road which is uphill from the beach. There are several bus stops along the main road in Nissaki but it’s in the middle of the route so you may find it difficult to get a seat in both directions.

Buses run hourly and are better suited to daytrips than heading out for the evening.

You can walk along the main road to Nissaki and Agni but there is no footpath or sidewalk. Most visitors rent a car to explore the area (or take a boat or water taxi).

There is a straightforward coastal footpath linking Agni with Gialiskari and Kalami .

It’s also possible to walk between Agni and Nissaki but this path is badly marked and meanders around new villa developments.

In Nissaki the path starts in front of the eastern end of the Atlantica Nissaki Beach Hotel building.

Accessibility :

Agni is located in a hilly area and the roads are steep and often roughly paved. There is limited parking for taverna customers only.

There is no Seatrac for wheelchair access to the sea.

Taverna Agni menu and speed boat taxi timetable.

Agni is a swanky bijou place – prices are at the higher end for Corfu.

Agni Corfu – Everything You Need To Know

Agni is on the northeast coast of Corfu approximately 28 kilometres from both Corfu town and the airport. It’s situated between Nissaki and Kalami. You can get there by boat, on foot from Kalami or by road by exiting the signposted uphill hairpin turn after the entrance to the Nissaki Beach Hotel.

Agni Bay Corfu Guide

Agni Corfu is not a resort is just a little bay with its pebble beach, crystal clear waters and 3 seafront tavernas. The sea is perfect for snorkelling as the formation of the seabed attracts many different species of sea life. You can arrange to have scuba diving lessons with Apollo dive centre which is based in Nissaki.

Each restaurant at Agni Bay has its own jetty that is busy with boats tying up throughout the day bringing in or taking out visitors and customers. It is possible to hire a boat or arrange a boat trip from here. There is little much else to do other than what has already been mentioned as well as eat, drink, swim, and relax.

There is limited parking but the is some space for customers of the tavernas and also there is some paid parking.

It is very traditional to arrive at Agni Bay Corfu by boat, especially in the evenings. There are water taxis that will take you there from the surrounding bays and coves. The service costs 5€ per person from Kalami and 7€ per person from Krouzeri, Kaminaki, Nissaki, St Stephanos, Kerasia and Kouloura.

Restaurants at Agni Corfu

There are 3 very good tavernas on the beach, Agni, Nicolas and Toula’s that are only open between May and October. It is recommended you call in advance to reserve a table at the restaurant to avoid disappointment. 2-3 days advance reservation is advisable for Sundays and Evenings during the peak season as it a very popular with tourists and locals alike. If you want to arrive there by water taxi you can book it via the restaurant when you make your reservation.

All restaurants have sunbeds and umbrellas that are free for their customers. You can have food and refreshments brought to you as you lay there on the beach

How to get To Agni

Reaching Agni Bay or your accommodation offers a few avenues, yet due to Agni Bay’s location away from the main road and major resorts, certain options such as shared private transfers may be limited.

Public Transport

To reach Agni, you can opt for the A4 Green bus headed to Kassiopi or the A5 Barbati-Nissaki Bus, both departing from the Green bus Station located just outside Corfu town. The journey typically lasts around an hour, contingent on traffic conditions. (If you arrive at the port or Airport you need to get Blue Bus 15 to take you to the Bus Station)

It’s important to note that the bus doesn’t go all the way down to Agni, instead it stops on the main road as it proceeds north. You’ll need to make your own way down to Agni Bay on foot, approximately 600 meters away, Downhill there but all the way an uphill trek on the return. Public transport may not be the most convenient option, especially if your accommodation is farther from the bay, making it challenging to carry bags and luggage the entire distance. Tickets cost around 2.20€ for a single if you buy beforehand as there is a surcharge

Private Transfer or Taxi

The preferred mode of transportation for those staying in Agni is a private taxi or transfer. The journey from Corfu town or the airport to Agni takes approximately 45 minutes. Numerous comparison sites, including HolidayTaxi , HolidayExtras , KiwiTaxi , offer private transfer services. If you encounter difficulties finding a private transfer to your accommodation, feel free to reach out to us through the Contact Us form. Simply provide your arrival details and accommodation name, and we will connect with local transfer companies on your behalf.

Taxi prices to Agni are typically around €80 (always advisable to check prices beforehand to avoid any surprises).

Agni Beach is located on the east coast of Corfu Greece. It is located approximately 27 km from Corfu Town, 5.6 km from Nisaki, and a mere 11.5 km from Kassiopi. You can access the beach by car as the road reaches all the way close to it. On Foot, for those residing nearby or opting for public transportation. Alternatively, you can arrive by boat from either Kalami or Nissaki.

Agni in Corfu is known for its natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere. With its crystal-clear waters, pebble beach, and lush surrounding greenery, Agni offers a serene retreat for visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. The beach can be relatively quiet compared to some of the more busy tourist spots on the island, making it an ideal destination for those who prefer a more peaceful setting. Agni is famous for its seafood tavernas, where visitors can savor freshly caught fish and traditional Greek cuisine while enjoying stunning views of the coastline. Its three Tavernas are another reason to visit the place.

AGNI BEACH COTTAGE

PROPERTY HISTORY

Agni Beach Cottage has been in the Katsaros family since it was built in 1898. Originally part of a Kafenion (cafe), it served local residents and traders traveling to Corfu Town and the surrounding areas. At that time there were no roads so all travel was either on foot through the various donkey trails or by sea. Many of the bays along the coastline formed part of the network suppling goods and public transport to the local area. When roads were eventually built and this service was no longer required, the cottage became a family summer house for over three generations. In 1990 a road down to Agni Bay opened, expanding the possibilities for tourism in Agni Bay. In 1998 the cottage was renovated and became available for summer rentals for the first time. Since then the owner Harris Katsaros, who inherited the property from his grandfather Harilaos,  along with his wife Louise have continued to refurbish and update the property making it into the charming, comfortable and cosy beach cottage it is today.

We have been visiting Agni cottage for many years and this is the first time for sometime that we have not hired a car. The help we received from Simpsons regarding shopping and taxis was excellent. Over the years we have become good friends with the Corfu staff, especially Bev, Jackie and Debbie. Although we were not part of their remit we would like to say a special thanks for them making sure we were OK and also coming to see us. Part of the pleasure for us in returning so frequently to Corfu is renewing those friendships and we would like to express our gratitude and thanks to them.

Mr Michael Weston, June 2024

Our accommodation in Agni Cottage was wonderful. Excellent location in a busy bay with some very good and varied tavernas close by. Water access by small boat and water taxis was also very easy. The 'Simpson Travel' experience for us was first class. All very efficient and they made the whole holiday booking process very easy. The resort rep (Anna Demote) was excellent, with good local knowledge and was very easy to contact. Would highly recommend them.

Mrs Joanna Swainsbury, September 2023

Brilliant R&R for both of us. Perfect place to just let the world roll by for a few days. Lovely people. Tavernas on the doorstep, water at your feet! Special place. Long may the magic work.

Jo and Elios, September 2023

Wonderful location, wonderful accommodation, charming hosts. It’s difficult to imagine a better holiday experience. Thanks to all. We will return.

Brigit and John, July 2023

We have just returned from an idyllic week at Agni Cottage. The property is beautiful inside and out, it’s small but with everything you could possibly need and in a perfect location on the shore of the bay. We enjoyed eating on the terrace, reading in the hammock, listening to the sea, snorkelling in the bay, walking along the coastal path, watching the boats come in and out and sampling the many delights of the local tavernas. Nicolas was our favourite. It is a lively bay and the boardwalk to the tavernas/beach/coastal path is directly in front of the property so lots of passers by, perfect for people watching.

Remy Jaudun, July 2023

Because we have been coming to Agni cottage for so long it is difficult to say anything new. We have returned every year because it is such a unique place. However, having met people who are staying in different places eg The Saints, I realise that the cottage may not be ideal for everyone. But if you don’t mind the lack of privacy and enjoy being part of the bay community there is nowhere comparable. It is my ‘happy place’ and I cannot wait to return.

Michael Weston, June 2023

We stayed 10 days in this most beautiful house here on Agni beach. Louise had a good style in the house and we had fun and felt comfortable from the moment we arrived. We are looking forward to coming again.

Tina and Ore, May 2023

A very pleasurable experience. The reps were friendly, helpful, readily available and accommodating at all times. We look forward to a return visit using Simpson Travel.

Col & Sandy Brooks-Johnson, May 2023

Lovely villa, really enjoyed it. Fantastic terrace and extremely comfortable, hope to come back.

Paul and Sue, August 2022

We had another lovely holiday at Agni Cottage. It was so nice to be back, to be able to relax in beautiful surroundings and to look at the view across the sea. Jackie was superb as usual & managed to get some extra groceries for our arrival which we would have struggled to locate ourselves.

Barbara Pearman, August 2022

What an amazing place to stay. Quiet enough to completely chill out and relax. Busy enough to keep you entertained all day people and boat watching. Welcoming tavernas, great food, friendly people. Thank you for letting us stay in this truly special place.

L & J, July 2022

There is nowhere quite like Agni Cottage - close enough to the sea to hear its murmur and yet perfectly positioned so that you can watch the world go by from the comfort of you hammock. What is not to love and return for year after year!

Beatrice Teuten, July 2022

How much we had looked forward to our 2022 return. As easy as slipping on favourite shoes, Agni is a beautiful allowing us to relax in our would-be second home! Thank you to Jackie our concierge and Louise for keeping Agni cottage as perfect as ever. We will be back.

Catriona & Jamie, July 2022

A truly wonderful cottage. We had seen it many times from the sea and walked past it on many occasions. To have finally stayed here was adream come true and we have enjoyed ourselves so much.

Keith and Jane, June 2022

First saw this lovely cottage some 30 years ago and always promised ourselves we would return to stay and now here we are. It has not disappointed us!

John and Lesley, June 2022

First time with Simpson Travel and will definitely be using them in the future.

Lesley Devis, May 2022

Just returned from our second holiday at Agni Cottage. We fell in love with Corfu and discovered Agni Bay three years ago and it’s been a very long two years waiting to get back due to Covid! Simpson Travel was as efficient and helpful as. Agni Cottage is perfect in every way, as gardeners the simple task of watering and deadheading the flowers each day was as demanding as any holiday activity needed to be for us! We swam in that inviting sea every day and enjoyed the most delicious food and service at Agni Taverna, Toulas and Nikolas Taverna. Thanks also to Spiros for providing Jamie with his essential paddle boards! The boat watching was as fascinating as per our previous visit, this time we thankfully remembered the binoculars. With everything we needed literally a stone’s throw away we didn’t travel much, although a first night sea taxi (thank you, Agni Boats) to The White House at Kalami got our holiday off to the perfect start. A week goes too quickly but it was the healing and reviving week we had so longed for and it was perfect. Booked for next year already, thank you Simpson and to the marvellous Agni Cottage owners.

Jamie and Catherine, August 2021

We had such a lovely, relaxing holiday at Agni Cottage. We spent a lot of time just chilling out and admiring the beautiful view. We went swimming most days which was extremely pleasant. The staff in the three Tavernas along the beach are immensely friendly and helpful . We hired a boat one day from Agni Boats. We then set off to explore the nearby bays, each one charmingly attractive. The Simpson’s rep, Diane was immensely kind and helpful, with an in-depth knowledge of the Island that was invaluable. Simpson Travel offer a wonderful service. Everyone is so helpful and patient right from initial enquirers to the actual holiday. It always seems as if nothing is too much trouble and they have made each holiday we’ve had with them both special and memorable.

Mr & Mrs Neville Pearman, September 2019

We’ve had another lovely fortnight at Agni Cottage again. It would be hard to find a more idyllic spot. We’re returning home regretful once more that we have to leave. We’ve had a perfect time with lots of rest and relaxation. A huge thank you to Diane for looking after us so well and we hope the charity walk goes well and that we’ll see you next year.

Barbara & Neil, September 2019

Our first holiday with Simpson and although we went to a familiar destination, the entire experience and every detail from booking to arrival and subsequent departure was delightfully smooth. The accommodation was exactly as described and met all expectations; we’d certainly book with Simpson again for the reassurance of our holiday arrangements being in the best hands!

Jamie & Catherine, July 2019

What a very special place – the views across the bay are timeless, the waters – pure. This little cottage is a cosy haven, the loggia shelters you from all the weathers – the ‘blue birds of happiness’ nest above and flit in and out, feeding their young. What bliss! Plus the local tavernas – especially Agni Taverna – offering the equivalent of foods from the gods. So much to enjoy. Thanks to Di for her cheery expertise – the little touches that travelling with Simpson offers. Another superb visit to Corfu, another memorable trip.

Sue, June 2019

We loved the place. It was exactly what we wanted. The accommodation was precious! Although small there was plenty of storage and the décor was lovely.

Carla Thomas, June 2019

Holidaying with Simpson Travel is a rewarding experience. Through every stage, from choosing our destination, booking, travelling, as well as arrival and departure, my husband and I felt well cared for and totally confident that the holiday would live up to our expectations. The information provided is both honest and realistic and the local representatives go out of their way to ensure that the customers are as comfortable as possible.

Mrs B Pearman, September 2018

A most enjoyable holiday in Agni Cottage. Its position, right on the beach at Agni Bay, is perfect if one likes to experience the liveliness of the comings and goings of boats and people arriving at the three tavernas. Early mornings and late evenings the bay returns to being blissfully quiet, and probably reminiscent of how small Greek fishing villages were many years ago.

Verna Newnham, June 2018

We had a wonderfully relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings. We didn't have any problems but we had the security of knowing that the local Simpson Travel staff would help us in any way that they could should we need them.

Mrs Pearman, September 2017

Back again to Corfu (first visit 16 years ago) – an irresistible draw it seems! Agni is pretty special, and has pretty special people too. Such a relaxed atmosphere with a remarkable combo of climate, food, sea and serenity. We have been so well looked after with kindness and consideration. The visit to vibrant, colourful Corfu town is such fun, but the essential return to Agni brings peace to the soul. We may well be back...

Mr Hawes, September 2017

We returned as promised and Agni did not let us down! A better spot you cannot find! Debbie from Simpson Travel was superb and we are so grateful to them for the venue but also for Debbie. We swam, ate and generally faffed about as per usual. Goodbye Agni – perhaps we'll come again in one of those fabulous boats!!

Sharon & Karen, August 2017

We just love this little cottage and its location. Enjoyed our week's stay visiting all our favorite bays along this beautiful coast. We have some wonderful memories and will be back.

The Hansons, July 2017

The perfect location with great service. Simpson Travel always goes the extra mile.

Mrs Teuten, July 2017

What a fantastic experience we had with Simpson Travel from the booking service (I have specific medical issues and this was not a problem to them) to the villa which was breathtaking and right up to arriving home. Faultless. The resort representatives went above and beyond to make our holiday as good as it was. It was perfect. Thank you isn't enough.

Mr Hines, July 2017

The views from the cottage remain unchanged so does the welcome, warmth and friendliness of all those people who work here and call it home. We have been coming to the cottage for over 15 years and it is the location and the people that bring us back so often. A happy two weeks, thankfully we shall see everyone in October.

The Westons, June 2017

The Beach House Agni Details

As you take the stairs down from the main gate you come across the barbeque and pool area, the multiple outdoor lounge spots, the main entrance of the house as well as the main sea-facing terrace with a dining and sitting area that accesses both the kitchen and the living room. The tranquil beach of Yialiskari is literally only a few steps away from the villa since you only have to take a small path through the garden. You are welcome to use the snorkelling equipment, kayak and paddleboards that you will find in the house. On the right side of the beach, a private jetty is placed. Yialiskari Bay is reached only by foot or by boat and it is located between Kalami and Agni Bays both of which can be accessed through walking paths. There are many fantastic restaurants in each bay and some have boat taxi services which collect and drop off at the private jetty.

Back to the house, from the ground floor front door you enter the living room which has 3 large sliding doors giving a stunning view of Yialiskari Bay with the mainland beyond. There is an open fireplace and underfloor heating for the winter. Guests are welcome to use the house PC and printer and there is a TV and Sonos sound system. Next to the living room there is the fully equipped kitchen separated by a frosted glass sliding door if needed. It has all necessary appliances including a Nespresso machine, filter coffee machine, and supplies of coffee pods, teas and foil, food wrap, bin bags, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, olive oil, herbs and spices. It is spacious and bright thanks to its big French doors and windows around it, with a large kitchen counter and a breakfast table. Arrangements for food delivery from the local supermarket can be made also before your arrival. The kitchen includes an Osmosis filtered water system in the American fridge and a wine cooler. A chef and assistant are included in July and August rentals and can be arranged at additional cost at other rental times.

Exiting the kitchen, you either access the main sea- facing terrace or the living room. There is a large dining table for 12 people and sofa area, a Sonos sound system and ceiling fans for enjoying balmy evenings. Next to the living room there are two big bedrooms with superking sized beds that can be separated into twins, both with en-suite shower rooms and a private balcony. There are another two similar double bedrooms with these same characteristics on the upper floor.

The first of the two master bedrooms is on the first floor with a superking bed, a big en-suite shower room as well as an outdoor bathtub on its private terrace. The private terrace has a seating area and covered large sofa for snoozing in the late afternoon.

The second master bedroom is on the lower ground floor and it has an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and a walk-in shower. Its balcony door leads to its own terrace with direct access to the garden and path to the swimming pool and sea. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan, a safe, a hairdryer, luxury towels, bathrobes and toiletries. The six bedrooms of this house can comfortably accommodate up to 12 persons.

In the lower ground floor you can find the laundry room, with a washing machine and a dryer. It also has a WC.

When outside you can definitely relax by the pool enjoying the tranquility and elegance of this place. The infinity pool is not on the lowest level so it looks down on the Yialiskari beach, creating the illusion that its edge reaches the horizon. It is built among olive trees that have been growing there since many years before the villa was built. Its dimensions are 12m x 5m and it uses a floatron. Even in the pool area you have the ability to surf the internet since the Wi-Fi of the house is of a wide range. Then, you can figure out if either of these two places are accessible based on your travel budget, schedule, and interests. So, let's dig into it.

Where Should I go: Moscow or Corfu?

Moscow is the capital of Russia and is notable for its important role in history. It's a very sprawling city with many museums and fascinating buildings. Ten percent of Russia's population lives in this capital city and it's a financial and political center for the country. The Moskva River weaves its way through the city and you will find most of the city's sights and attractions on the northern side of the river.

Also known in modern Greek as Kerkira or Kerkyra, Corfu is the northernmost of Greece's Ionian islands, located off the nation's northwest coast in the Adriatic Sea. It has historically seen control of Venetians, French, and British powers, and today draws tourists mainly as a resort destination. Like many beach destinations in Europe, Corfu can be expensive due to higher tourist demand and limited space on the island. But Greece is still a fairly affordable country compared to other places in Europe, so deals can be found.

For some great organized tour ideas, see The Best One Week (7-Day) Tours in Greece , and The Best 3-Day Tours in Greece .
