The MSC Seaside has a New York City-inspired theme complete with a 10-foot-fall replica of the Statue of Liberty at the heart of the casino and shopping area called Times Square. It's 1 year older than the Beyond , which was built in 2022. The Celebrity Beyond is a step up from its siblings, with an additional deck and more outdoor space. It still features the "Magic Carpet," a moving platform that makes using water tenders a breeze while in port, or adds outdoor dining space while at sea. This Edge-class of ship is known to feel quite different than the rest of the Celebrity fleet as it's less geared towards traditional cruise passengers.

The Seashore is considered a large size ship. Coming in at 1,060 feet long and 135 feet wide, it's roughly the length of 2.9 football fields, as wide as 2.5 tractor-trailers and the same height as a 15-story building. Compared to the Celebrity Beyond, the Seashore is 20% larger in terms of overall tons.

If you like having a variety of places to eat, the Beyond might be a better choice. It has 19% more dining options than the Seashore.

Both ships have a similar number of paid versus included dining options.

In terms of drinks and cocktails, you have a variety of choices. Both ships serve the Coca-cola family of products. That means Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and Barqs Root Beer, although the selection can vary by ship.

With just four ships, each holding fewer than 700 passengers, Azamara is one of the smallest players in the cruise business. But it has a loyal following of travelers who appreciate the upscale ambience of its vessels, the inclusive amenities it offers (including gratuities and alcoholic drinks) and its destination focus.

The line prides itself on offering longer stays in ports, including multi-day visits. Its ships have an intimate, boutique-hotel feel. Pricing is higher than at the big, mass-market lines but not quite as high as you'll find at luxury lines.

Carnival Cruise Line

The self-described "fun ship" line is the king of short, affordable, fun-focused cruises from U.S. ports to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Mexico and beyond.

The choice of roughly one in five cruisers, Carnival Cruise Line' s ships are notoriously lively, flashy and packed with fun features such as water parks with multiple waterslides. Just don't expect anything too fancy .

Celebrity Cruises

Designed to be a cut above mainstream options such as Carnival while remaining relatively affordable, this Miami-based "premium" line is known for some of the most stylish big ships at sea.

Expect high-end design, cutting-edge art and trendy restaurants. In short, Celebrity aims for sophisticates, not the party crowd (although it's not a luxury product).

Celebrity's four newest ships, Celebrity Edge , Celebrity Apex , Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent, feature "infinite veranda" cabins that are open to the sea in a way we haven't seen with other ocean ships. They boast a glass wall that opens from the top to create a balcony-like effect.

Crystal Cruises

This much-beloved luxury line recently restarted operations under new owners after shutting down for 18 months. For years, it was considered the ultimate luxury cruise operator, and our take after sailing on Crystal Serenity after its relaunch is that the line is even better than before. Initially, Crystal has returned to operations with just two ships. But it recently announced plans to expand rapidly with four more ships over the next six years.

A storied line with roots that go back to the 1800s, this three-ship brand is perhaps best known for its 2,695-passenger flagship, Queen Mary 2. The ship lives up to its billing as a true ocean liner with semiregular, transatlantic service between Southampton, England, and New York.

Cunard fans love the line's relatively formal vibe (including nightly dress codes) and other nods to ocean liner tradition, including evenings with ballroom dancing. A fourth Cunard ship called Queen Anne is set to debut in 2024.

Disney Cruise Line

Meet-and-greets with Disney characters, Disney-themed shows and the most extensive kiddie fun zones on the high seas are just a few of the family-friendly allures of a Disney cruise . If you're a Disney fan, nothing quite compares.

If Disney isn't your thing, well, this probably isn't the line for you. The biggest downside of the brand? As with Disney's parks on land, it doesn't come cheap.

Holland America

Tradition long has been a touchstone for this storied line, which dates to 1873 and is known for carefully crafted, globe-circling itineraries on midsize ships.

However, Holland America has been shaking things up in recent years with lively new venues such as B.B. King's Blues Club. Couples and retirees are the market for this line. Families with kids might want to look elsewhere.

MSC Cruises

A giant of cruising in Europe, Switzerland-based MSC Cruises is making a big play for North Americans with newer, bigger ships sailing year-round from Florida to the Caribbean and Bahamas. It also offers sailings from New York City.

Like Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, MSC Cruises operates big, resort-like vessels that appeal to a broad audience. Among the highlight of its cruises in North America are stops at its new private island in the Bahamas, the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve .

Norwegian Cruise Line

Multistory waterslides, ropes courses and even go-kart race tracks are among the gee-whiz attractions atop Norwegian Cruise Line 's giant, resort-like ships. The vessels also are packed with eateries, bars, casinos and showrooms.

The brand is known for its entertainment, including big Broadway shows such as "Beetlejuice." If you're looking for a Las Vegas-style resort at sea, this is your line.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania has carved out a niche with relatively small, upscale ships that offer a significant upgrade from mass-market vessels but aren't quite as fancy (or pricey) as luxury offerings.

Its seven ships feature a relaxed, country club-like ambience and inspired dining that appeal to a mostly older crowd.

Itinerary-wise, Oceania is known for destination-intensive voyages that typically are 10 nights or more in length, with some globe-circling trips as long as 180 days.

This France-based line is a specialist in expedition cruising , a type of cruising that involves traveling to remote, hard-to-reach places on small, hardy vessels that carry their own landing craft.

Operating a fast-growing fleet of tough but upscale expedition ships (none carrying more than 264 passengers), Ponant is known for voyages to places like Antarctica and the Arctic.

If you're looking for waterslides and laser tag, this is not the cruise line for you.

Princess Cruises

Popular with middle-aged couples, retirees and multigenerational families, the "Love Boat" line's ships aren't as flashy (or big, for the most part) as those of Royal Caribbean and Norwegian, and that's just the way its customers like it.

Princess Cruises ' customers also like its wide range of itineraries, including voyages in Asia and Australia, as well as closer-to-home places like the Caribbean. It's long been one of the dominant lines in the Alaska cruise market.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

This Miami-based luxury line operates some of the most opulent vessels at sea, including three recently unveiled Explorer-class ships billed as the most expensive luxury vessels ever built on a cost-per-berth basis.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises is particularly known for some of the most over-the-top suites at sea (including some bigger than the average American home ), some of the most inclusive fares in the cruise business and high levels of service. The only catch: You'll pay a pretty penny for it. Rooms on Regent ships start at around $1,000 per person per day and can cost as much as $5,500 per person per day.

Royal Caribbean

For megaresort fans, there's nothing quite like a Royal Caribbean vessel.

The line's biggest ships are more than 20% bigger than almost any others afloat (only MSC Cruises has ships that come close in size) and feature every type of amusement imaginable, from rock climbing walls and surfing pools to Broadway shows and ice skating rinks.

Families, in particular, will love this line, due to all the family-friendly activities and venues on its vessels. Royal Caribbean ships sail everywhere in the world, but the line's heaviest presence is in the Caribbean and Europe.

Another leader in luxury cruising, this seven-ship brand offers all-suite vessels, top-notch service and elegant cuisine.

As with other luxury lines, Seabourn offers a wide range of itineraries around the globe. It also recently jumped into more adventurous, expedition-style cruising with two new 264-passenger vessels designed to operate in polar regions such as Antarctica and the Arctic.

Silversea Cruises

Exquisite service, refined dining and well-appointed accommodations are hallmarks of this Monaco-based luxury line with 12 vessels. Silversea Cruises is also known for its industry-leading array of off-the-beaten-path itineraries.

Its growing fleet of small expedition ships will take you everywhere from the Arctic to Papua New Guinea in style.

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

Fans of upscale hotel chain Ritz-Carlton will feel at home on one of this line's yacht-like vessels. Or, at least, that's the idea.

The cruising arm of Ritz-Carlton has been in operation for just a bit over a year, and the jury still is out on where it ranks in the pantheon of luxury cruise brands. The line notably struggled to get off the ground after years of construction delays for its first and only ship.

Dubbed Evrima, the line's only operating ship is a 298-passenger vessel designed to appeal to Ritz-Carlton regulars with an elegant, residential look. A second, bigger ship called Ilma that's already open for bookings debuts later this year.

This fast-growing line has dominated the world of river cruising for North Americans for years, and in the last few years, it's become a significant player in upscale ocean cruising as well. Viking 's 80 river ships operate on just about every major river in the world, and its 10 ocean ships (up from just one in 2015) can be found in a growing number of destinations, too.

Viking is known for impeccably designed vessels with modern Scandinavian interiors and offering unusual, port-intensive itineraries. They also operate with a mostly all-inclusive format, as Viking long has subscribed to a "no nickel-and-diming" philosophy. Just don't bother booking the family. Kids under 18 aren't allowed on Viking.

Virgin Voyages

This relatively new cruise line, backed by Richard Branson's Virgin Group, is reinventing mainstream cruising with a hipper, more inclusive, younger vibe (though not too young; its ships are adults-only). Think tattoo shops, karoake booths and no upcharges for tips or eateries.

Virgin Voyages ' first three ships ( Scarlet Lady , Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady ) have suites by acclaimed designer Tom Dixon. Destinations include the Dominican Republic, Mexico and a private beach club in the Bahamas, as well as parts of Europe and Australia.

Windstar Cruises

If the idea of sailing on a big ship makes you cringe, small-ship specialist Windstar could be the answer.

Its six vessels carry just 148 to 342 passengers — fewer than fit on a single big-ship lifeboat — and are wonderfully intimate.

Romantic types will love Windstar's three vessels with sails — a relative rarity. Foodies can choose one of the James Beard-themed cruises, which include market tours and cooking demonstrations with a James Beard Award-winning chef.

I've done 3 Celeb cruises, only recently heard of MSC.

Anyone able to compare the 2? We prefer Europe/mediterranean, outside/veranda cabins, and No Smoking (turned off by Holland Am).

I consider MSC the smokiest cruise line of all I had experienced (RCL,NCL, Celebrity and Princess). Even though there are some rules regarding where is smoking allowed they are generally not enforced-and Europeans sailing on MSC ships smoke a lot!:eek:

There is no comparison, it is a low class, low budget smokey cruise line.

Absolutely loved every aspect of our cruise on Celebrity Mercury.

In comparison, MSC Poesia was like spending 18 days in a giant floating ashtray.

On our Poesia cruise in June 2010 we found the ship to be almost smoke free. Aside from the authorized smoking areas which did not affect us at all, the remaining areas were blissfully smoke-free. There is absolutely no smoking in the restaurants, theatre, spa, corridors, etc. One half of most bars and the outside decks was reserved for smokers but the smell did not penetrate the smoke-free areas. The casino of course was a smokers haven.

It smell pretty bad on the Musica casino (east med.).

@ artistcleveland, just do a search for "smoking" on these MSC forums and you'll get some idea of the reality of the situation. Smoking is a frequently raised topic here as well as in MSC reviews ... and there's a reason for that fact.

My wife and I have cruised on Celebrity's Constellation (2Xs), Millennium, Solstice, and Mercury; and on MSC twice, most recently on Poesia to New England and Canada. Both lines do Europe and both have outside/veranda cabins, so those aspects are a wash. Although, you will have a greater variety of veranda/suite cabins from which to choose than on MSC. The biggest difference between the two is their respective smoking policies, and if you are turned off by smoking pax and/or the stale smell of lingering cigarette smoke, then MSC is definitely not the line for you.

On Poesia, for example, the venues for much of the entertainment and activities takes place in the bars. As an earlier poster has said, smoking is permitted in one-half of most bars on MSC. The logic of how this benefits the comfort of non-smokers is beyond me because no effort is made to contain the smoke/odor to the smoking side of the room. To expect the smoke and smell to not permeate the entire room is ridiculous and makes as much sense as saying that it's possible for a woman to only get half pregnant.

Our bottom line opinion is this: If you are offended by tobacco smoke/odor, then MSC is not the line for you.

Based on my family who has recently been on the Splendida, MSC do not seem to restrict how much duty free cigarettes and alcohol is bought onto the ship. This in turn results in a lot of drunk europeans who smoke excessively on the ship. Needless to say my family had a balcony and mainly spent their time there or in the port. It was a week long cruise and few people spoke english on the cruise anyway. If you are happy to use MSC as a floating hotel and not use the public areas much then this is fine otherwise choose elsewhere!!

THE KEY - You get what you pay for! If you pay for coffe do not demand nor expect champagne.

If you try MSC do not expect it to be Celeb cruises, and you can enjoy.

It can be stiff and a bit borring on Celeb cruises as manny guest go to bed early. It can be more dance and more fun and more relaxed on MSC and Costa.

We have tried several cruiselines and love them all, for different reason.

You can find people complain for the most stupid things on this board. When I read what some people write, have thy been on the same ship, or have the lost all monny on black Jack.... why do the leave home, some should stay at home, the are not "fit" for travel among other people.

I can´t understand how it can be so hard for some people to find something nice to eat with al the alternative on menue and bare in

mind the option to request for next day.

This people must have the same problem with resturants on shore.

An open mind:cool:, a smile:), and I hope you will enjoy;), but If you

Regarding smoking, I just read through some threads on the smoking subject on the RCCL and Celebrity forums and found that evidently the smoking problem on those lines is very similar to MSC - all have strong smoking policies and all have problems with enforcement. I do however like Celebrity's policy of a $250 fine for passengers who chose to ignore the rules.

Having cruised on both MSC and Celebrity, my experience is that they're at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to smoking. On Celebrity we didn't encounter any sort of "smoking problem". We never noticed smokers and were never affected or restricted by smokers. In contrast, apart from the theatre and dining areas, there was barely anywhere on Poesia where we could go without being affected by smokers. This included most of the lounges and bars ... especially the large Pigalle lounge where many mainstream activities are held ... but which "welcomes smokers".

Thanks Andrew, it is appreciated that you have also actually sailed both lines and are qualified to answer the question, rather than just postings suppositions and second hand reports.

I had issues with smoking too, the Lirica was much more controlled, the Poesia, not so much.

The large Zebra lounge, where most of the evening activities were held luckily did not allow for smoking, but to get to it you had to pass a few smoking lounges.

AndrewK, how is the situation in Australia, Re:Flood levels? I assume you are not in the vicinity of these?

Service style between X and MSC is very similar (friendly but less persistently gregarious than some lines). Food is better on X (IMHO) and less consistent on MSC.

Smoking - X is more stringently smoke free (or 'anti' smoking) than other North American big ship lines. MSC comes from the other end of the spectrum (Europe is about a decade behind North America in public smoking attitudes and policies [but catching up fast]) so MSC is NOT the choice if you're smoke sensitive.

On my MSC cruise in the Med the port side of the pool deck and one of the bigger aft lounges was open to smoking - it was apparent. Staff enforced smoking prohibitions elsewhere. For me the smoke issue wasn't terrible, especially if you recollected that 20 years ago smoking was virtually everywhere (I remember being on an Olympic airlines 707 at JFK in '68 delayed, no a/c, you couldn't see across the cabin - cough cough; think of that when folks pine for cruising like in the 'good old days'!).

MSC is an OK line, but its not the best choice for the smoke sensitive.

Which ones haven't I? LOL!

When I first started cruising, I thought I would try them all( within my budget of course) and didn't really care for a loyalty program.

Now, I see others with lots of perks such as Diamond plus for cruising with RCCL and tend to get jealous, but then I remember I don't like RCCL that much and remember how much fun I like trying new lines so ~

I'm on the mid-north coast of New South Wales and we're not affected here. We have many cruising friends as well as family in Queensland but thankfully everyone is fine.

The situation is still very bad in many parts of Queensland and also in northern New South Wales. The situation is improving in the Queensland state capital Brisbane, but there will be a very lengthy and expensive cleanup required. The effects will be felt for years to come.

Some cruises depart from Brisbane (particularly P&O and Princess) but at the moment the port is completely closed to all shipping.

Our thoughts also go out to Sri Lanka and Brazil ... both are experiencing disastrous flooding with many lives lost. Kind of puts the antics on these forums into perspective doesn't it.

Yes, correct on both counts. Prices are relatively higher here, but the lines which have ships positioned here have removed tipping so it balances out to some extent. It doesn't seem to have affected sales ... the cruise market is booming here.

I think the restrictions on purchasing through overseas web sites came about because local travel agents were being disadvantaged. It never affects us anyway. If we see something advertised which appeals to us we just go and ask our local T.A. about it and book through them if we decide to go.

My wife is elite on Princess ... owned by Carnival. It will be interesting to see if that transfers over to Carnival itself. Carnival will be joining P&O and Princess in running cruises out to the Pacific Islands as well as New Zealand. We really enjoy those itineraries.

Celebrity Cruises guests may pay a steeper bill next time they sail.

The cruise line is raising its automatic gratuity rates later this month. Charges for standard staterooms will increase from $17.50 to $18 per passenger, per day, while those in Concierge Class and AquaClass staterooms will pay $18.50 per guest each day, up from $18.

Guests in The Retreat suites will pay $23 per passenger, per day, an increase from $21. The changes will take effect July 11.

“The change is in keeping with industry standards and directly recognizes both the exceptional work by our crew to deliver unforgettable vacations every day and the friendly, yet, tailored relaxed luxury experience that Celebrity is known for,” a Celebrity spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

The cruise line automatically adds gratuities to passengers’ onboard accounts, unless they have an Excluded Booking that include stateroom and restaurant service gratuities and a 20% beverage package tip, according to the line’s website . That applies to Celebrity’s All Included rate, as well as AquaClass staterooms and The Retreat suites.

The changes come as other cruise lines have raised prices in the wake of inflation and the industry's continued recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic . Many have increased gratuity prices , and lines such as MSC Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line have also increased fees for beverage packages .

MSC YC vs Celebrity Retreat: A comparison

We just returned from our first time on MSC, sailing in YC on the Meraviglia. This will be a comparison between the two experiences. We’ve sailed Retreat on Summit, Reflection, Equinox, and Edge in CS or RS.   

Pre-cruise planning and communication 

  There was no communication from YC prior to boarding. The MSC app was not the most user friendly, and it took several tries before I was able to attach a cc to our onboard account. Celebrity wins here as there has always been shoreside contact pre-cruise with questions about preferences and any specific requests, including specialty dining (more on that later)

Embarkation

We sailed out of Brooklyn, and I don’t think MSC has worked out all the kinks yet. YC guests are brought to a separate line for security, but this line crossed with wheelchair assist, so we were trying to let passengers in wheelchairs go in front of us, and MSC butler was waving to us to just push through. I’m not sure why it was set up so that the lines would cross, but it was chaotic. Once through security we were brought to a smaller room, checked in, then brought on board in small groups by a different butler. We boarded and were then herded to a spot near an elevator and told to wait while the butler took care of something for another guest. Again, chaotic because we were told to wait right where other passengers were boarding the ship. We were then brought up to the YC lounge and told to wait here until our cabin was ready. There was a long line forming behind one desk, and I soon found out this was to book any specialty dining, excursions, or shows. It took about 45 minutes waiting in line to book three specialty restaurants and two shows. Celebrity wins here, no question.

Retreat Lounge vs YC Lounge

The YC lounge was huge! It was also open almost around the clock, with a large bar area, different snacks put out through out the day and into the evening, multiple bar servers, and live music every evening. The YC concierge desk is near the lounge, and seemed to be staffed continually. MSC wins here. We really enjoyed the live music, the bar servers, snacks, the YC Director always around asking if anyone needed anything, and the size of the lounge.

Luminae vs MSC YC Restaurant (and YC buffet!)

Luminae can get a little hectic at times, depending on when you choose to eat. The YC restaurant is very large, so plenty of space for everyone. Food is subjective of course, but we thought the food in YC was really good to excellent. Staff were always around asking checking in to see if we needed anything. What we really liked was just upstairs was a full buffet for YC, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There were lots of options as well as a grill for individually prepared items. So food quality is a tie between the two, but slight edge to MSC for having the buffet option.

We were in a Deluxe Balcony Suite, deck 16, right next to the lounge (there is even a secret door to the lounge next to the cabin!). The cabin is smaller, closer in size to a jr suite on Royal Caribbean. The bathroom is also on the small side, and there is about a three inch step up to enter the bathroom. There’s a small closet for hanging items and a small closet with shelves. There were no outlets by the bed, so luckily we had brought an extension cord for my husband’s cpap. The balcony was also on the small side, just large enough for two chairs with foot rests. The mini bar is stocked with water, sodas, juices, and Heineken (the only beer that was available). All YC cabins also get one bottle of spirits (we chose Absolut, and just brought it home with us as drinks were readily available in the lounge). Celebrity wins on cabin size and layout, MSC did a better job on butler service. It was outstanding- we were literally escorted everywhere on the ship we needed to go. The cabins were being serviced all day by the asst. butlers. Everything was always clean, everywhere.

Other observations 

Entertainment on MSC was different than what we are used to. There were included shows that you still needed a reservation for in the main theater and two different paid shows in the Carousel Lounge (12.00 if purchased ahead of time, 18.00 if purchased on the ship and includes one pre-made cocktail. No other drinks served, and the included cocktails were not great). The two paid shows were good, but I’m not sure I would pay for them if I were to cruise again on MSC. There was a Master Chef at Sea competition the last day, and we really enjoyed this.

 We pre-paid for a specialty dining package, three restaurants for 71.00 pp. The packages have a separate menu selection, which was fine. We ended up dining in Butcher’s Cut (steak house), Ocean Cay (seafood), and Kaito Teppanyaki for lunch on the three sea days. We felt the food was better in the YC restaurant than the specialty restaurants, so would not book them again on MSC. Celebrity wins here- we really like their specialty dining as well as dining events like Veuve Cliquot dinner and Daniel Boulud Chef’s Table.

Final Thoughts (and would we book another MSC cruise)

This was a great cruise. We loved the YC experience, and loved MSC’s private island (not going to get into private island debate right now…). The pricing for this cruise in a YC suite was about half what we have been paying for CS on Celebrity, so MSC definitely has the advantage on value for $$$. Would we book MSC again? Yes, if the pricing on MSC stays as competitive as it is now. We’d like to try some different itineraries, so I’ve started checking MSC for interesting looking sailings. Right now we have two Celebrity cruises booked for 2024, one in Aqua because the Retreat pricing was a little crazy. Hope this comparison helps anyone considering an MSC cruise.

On our trial cruise with MSC we had a smoother pre-cruise and embarkation experience than you did, as there was an email asking for our choice of spirits and our newspaper preference. 

On the newspaper, I wouldn't ask for it another time as I was expecting the sort of small summary sheet that I've had on Regent in the past , but what we got was the whole thing, printed on A3 paper and about half an inch thick... far too much waste for comfort.

Agree on the speciality restaurants, the price is very low compared to Celebrity, you were getting all 3 for around the price of one on Celebrity, but there is no need as the food in the MDR exceeds the specialities, in particular the fillet that is available every day was cooked to perfection and was probably one of the best steaks I've ever had, anywhere...

I'd give Celebrity the edge on the entertainment, especially in Europe as the MSC productions try to appeal to a wide range of different languages, where Celebrity just target English in all markets, so they are more performance focused. ... but Celebrity could use a bit more variety in the production shows.

Yes, we have booked with MSC again, can't argue with better than retreat service levels for Aqua prices...

I did MSC in April I don't know if embarkation organization depends on where, for Southampton it was super easy. I turned up, they took my bags and they walked me through the scanners which took less than a minute, I think I went upstairs after and they finished my boarding process while I had a drink.

Other than the paid theatre I never did a reservation - I just turned up and went into the reserved area for YC.

I will say with the food I had out of Southampton, I would stick away from French/British food - the Italian food was the best I found. The lobster I had on MSC was better than Celebrity.

There were good and bad things for both but the price and what I got on MSC was great - I did do an onboard booking for 2025 for World America.

We book celebrity a lot , always suites from sky to penthouse, did MSc yacht club just before Covid shutdown everything, we had no chaos boarding at all . I would say yacht club cabins are similar to sky suites. Loved the entertainment in yacht club lounge which could be heard from restaurant one floor above. Butler was far superior on yacht club he would escort you to shows and off the ship . Captain spent a lot of time there and had a couple pleasant conversations with him . Private island suite area again was far superior to celebrity they had waiter service to bring your food and drink , I thought rest of entertainment was equal to celebrity and there outside area which served lunch was excellent, pool was about 6 ft deep never crowded . I will be definitely look forward to booking them again. They also gave me a ten percent discount on cruise since I am a veteran, never got anything like that from celebrity.

I have 4 upcoming MSC YC sailings booked.  2 on Divinia (b2b), 1 on Seascape and 1 on Meraviglia.  I loved the status match (am Diamond on there) and ease of doing so.  2 I chose inside cabin.  The other 2 in December/January were 1/2 the price of the Retreat on the Beyond at the same time which I moved to the Reflection Retreat.  I'm actually debating just cancelling that if I like MSC.  The other thing I liked was the low deposit, the discount for my status, the ability to move my sailing 1x in YC without penalty.

I'd forgotten about the cruise price discounts...

They status match from most hotel/airline/cruise loyalty programmes and you can get 5% + an additional 5% if you book more than 6 months in advance. If you are 9 months in advance you get an extra $50 OBC as well.

Also double status points + $200 OBC if you book onboard.

We had considered MSC YC for September with our daughters but now doing a land trip.  

Can I ask please what the rest of the ship is like once you leave YC? X is imo good everywhere most of the time.   

Forgot to add that we like the non smoking inside & that’s a big deal for us.

We were on Divina, cruising near Italy, so we walked through the ship each day to get to the Yacht Club restaurant.

We only found it noticeably busy on the gala night, but there were so many bars, with different entertainment in each, that even then the people tended to spread out between them (all serve coffee as well).

Didn't see an issue with finding seats or a table had we chosen to stay in any of them. General atmosphere was more 'lively' and culturally diverse than X. 

We never noticed any cigarette smoke even in the casino, and the one inside smokers lounge always looked empty as we went past, so I'm guessing we didn't have many smokers onboard, so every cruise is going to be different.

I guess the big difference we noticed was the general ambiance, X can feel a little sterile at times, where MSC always felty like people were having fun, but there was both quiet and party spaces available just a walk away, never felt like we would have to hunt down a bar with space to sit as we have had to do on Silhouette or Eclipse at times.

The atmosphere in the Yacht Club itself felt way better than the Retreat as there was some form of, appropriate, live music in the lounge every evening. The butlers also work in the lounge, so there is rarely a wait for table service.

Can't comment on what it was like around the main pools on a sea day so it could well have been a bit more of a 'zoo' down there, but again quite a few different spaces including an 'adults only' are for those not wishing to deal with excitable children 🙂

If we had to sail outside the Yacht Club for a great itinerary I think we probably would still do it, but at current prices we would always be more inclined to book Yacht Club.

Your entire review and most of the commentary that followed resonates with me.  Prior to this I was encouraged by Charla's live from MSC thread.  We status matched to Diamond, so were able to take advantage of MSC's incentives for our first booking foray into the Yacht Club.  We will be doing a side-by-side comparison of MSC Yacht Club with The Retreat on board Summit.  We have previously enjoyed The Retreat on board Silhouette and Equinox, but we look forward to trying it on board a Revolutionized M-class ship.  I am not looking to uncover any miraculous discoveries during the comparison, but it will be interesting to disembark one ship and nearly immediately embark the other.  The 5-night on the Summit was booked first.  Then, we tacked on the 7-nights on Seascape after I got Charlacized by her review.  We will be sailing glass-half-full after suffering a lonnng, land-locked 363-day cruise hiatus.  We are always grateful and happy just to have booked cruises to look forward to.  Any day on any ship (within $$$ reason) beats a day on land.

You didn't touch on the outdoor YC space vs Retreat sundeck at all. Seems to me to be a huge win for MSC vs. all but E-class ships.

I recently booked a cruise in the Yacht Club.    

The price of the cruise went down because of a 4th of July sale.   I called about getting the price match and was told that MSC doesn’t do a price match.    I was told that the deposits for the Yacht Club are NR so I could cancel the cruise and rebook but the loss of the deposit would offset most of the decrease.    

Just something to think about when booking a MSC cruise.     

For the most part  the MSC appears to be a better value and offers fantastic service according to the reviews I have read.    I haven’t traveled with them yet so I can only go by those reports.  

It also appears as if they nickel dime for many things that you would expect to be included.  Still not a deal breaker for the difference in cost.

Sorry about that.Yes, the YC sun deck (which includes the buffet area) is very spacious with plenty of loungers, towels and bar servers coming around with water, drinks, basically whatever you wanted they brought to you. The only negative I could find is there isn’t much shade.

This is either the pedant in me or the retired accountant in me but a word of clarification on the cruise discounts. You get an extra 5% off the 95% so 9.75% in total and not 10%.

I am pleased to say that the OBCs are given as shown above to solo travellers and not pro-rated.

It is 5% discount from 100%, then 5% of the 95%, which is why I expressed it as they do, which is 5 + 5 rather than 10, so it was a good point to mkae 🙂

Not all OBC is applied that way though, the promotion that was on when we made our booking is specifically for double occupancy cabins, so a solo traveller would have received half...

That is not true at all. There is only one thing, you have to pay for the water in the MDR, which is free on most other cruise lines. Not in YC of cause, there is a premium drinks package included.

And their price structure of cause makes it impossible for them to do a price match.

I am not complaining about the price match.   I am only posting to let others know and think about when booking if you think that a “sale” may be coming.     When I booked I didn’t ask about being price match as I am use to sailing on Celebrity and other cruise lines that did a price match. 

if you read the reviews of MSC you will read a lot of things that people complain about having to pay extra for, some are and some are not in the Yacht Club.    As I wrote I can only go by what they wrote as I haven’t been on MSC 

I booked the Yacht Club and it is only for 3 nights.  If there is a charge for something and I want it I will pay for it.   I booked the cruise because it is only 3 nights so I could get a feel for the cruise line.  It is 5 days before a B2B Celebrity cruise and  on the way driving from MI to FL.  If I don’t like it fine,  if it is fantastic then I will book more. 

On an X site I am surprised there isn't more enthusiasm for the Retreat. We loved YC but booked a

discounted Sky Suite on Ascent for next year. With credits it was approx the same price as YC which has gone up alot like everything. We saw some potential YC benefits (never having sailed on Retreat).

These include the spa access, stocked mini bar, and private island which is not part of our X cruise.

We were thinking of migrating to YC for this Jan 2024 cruise but discovered that YC now has non refundable deposit. Anyway we will probably stick with the new Ascent and see how we like it. I would have to be very impressed to spend 7-10 grand a week for Carib cruise in Retreat. Sorry to be such a downer but as long time cruisers we just don't have the same enthusiasm we used to for cruising primarily because of the declining (IMHO) value.

Yes YC has a non refundable deposit but when I booked in April for 2025 the deposit was $200 not a percentage of the total cost.

OK...after about 30 cruises, tried MSC in Feb (NOT YC)

Wasn't a fan--tried again in May. Even less of a fan now.

We did Retreat on Beyond in April. Really enjoyed it but would have to get a similar deal as we got on that one to do it again--nothing was so much better to pay a huge premium for.

Would I try MSC again if we did YC? 

Maybe, if the price was right.

But I found the passengers to be rude on both sailings (one in Caribbean & one in Europe...)--which is an issue that many reviewers point out.

And the activities & entertainment were, well, odd.

I agree with above poster about Celebrity shows--EXCEPT Eclass. Those are on another level.

Tami, who often posts on the Celebrity board, is currently on board MSC in YC and went out of her way to indicate that she is having the opposite experience.
