Went back and bought the Basic Walden Naturalist. 27" wide 10' long. This makes it faster but a little less stable than 9'long 30" wide boats. Light 37lbs. Smaller cockpit than most beginner boats 35x18" = less water in boat = better chance of hitting class 2 & 3 rivers. Trade off less comfort entry/exit. $269.99.

walden vista I absolutely love my walden vista! I fish and take pictures from it all the time, and I am a pretty big guy (220lbs) That said, it is also my first and only kayak to date, so I really can't compare it with much else. As previously mentioned, it is very sturdy and durable, I love that it is recycled and the price is great too.

Walden Vista experience I own a walden vista and I am, 5'7" 180 lbs. Spent many hours and over 1200 miles in it. The walden was a good boat that is light weight, easy to portage and responsive to turns. I kayak lots of rivers with rocks and dead fall and this kayak never let me down. The Walden did not track well and was difficult in the wind.

I've used it almost every weekend but unfortunately popped it today. I've patched it but I'm unsure it'll hold. Have been paddling the Vision (my 1st kayak) for 3 years and still having fun. Very light weight, maneuverable, sturdy. Great storage space. Excellent final stability. I take it everywhere, from local ponds/lakes, up/down CT river, islands in L.I. Sound, Maine Islands in Penobscot Bay, and Virginia Barrier Islands with no worries.

This year Walden came out with the Odyessy. I bought the Expedition model with the rudder.It's a fantastic boat for the $$$. It tracks great, light weight (46lbs.), handles waves and wind, and has great lines. The cockpit is small, 23" wide, which might make it not suitable for larger paddlers. Weight limit is 225lbs.

The initial stability is good, the cockpit is comfortable, speed is sufficient for a novice and it stores enough gear for trips. The price seems to be a bargain compared to other kayaks in this class.

I went to my local outfitter yesterday to check out some new kayaks in the 15' range and within my budget. The two boats that seem to fit the bill were the Passage and the Lookout 155. My requirements are: 1. Ample storage above and below deck for 4 day camping trips. 2. tracks well, but can still turn in smaller streams.

So I'm guessing the boat is at least six years old, maybe more. If it has always been stored out of the sun, it might still be in great shape. If not, it could be brittle.
