One of the wonderful things about the recently-opened Chicago Architecture Biennial is that it encourages visitors to leave the exhibition itself. From films to lectures to public kiosks, it's truly a regional event.    By far the furthest afield of these offerings - and definitely one of the most memorable - are the free trips to visit the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright-designed headquarters of SC Johnson in Racine , Wisconsin. The complex is about an hour and a half drive from Chicago.  Long before Apple and Google hired Norman Foster and Bjarke Ingels to build sexy campuses in Silicon Valley, H.F. Johnson Jr. hired Wright to build his Administration Building (1939) and Research Tower (1950), which remain two of the most innovative, and important office buildings in the history of modern architecture. 'I wanted to build the best office building in the world, and the only way to do that was to get the greatest architect in the world,' Johnson explained at the time.  The Research Tower, renovated in 2013, was opened to the public for the first time last year. Its 15 floors all cantilever off a central core, which extends more than 50 feet into the ground. The research spaces are skinned with 'Cherokee Red' bricks, and more than 7,000 Pyrex glass tubes. The development site of ubiquitous products like Glade, Pledge, and Raid, the tower contains original lab equipment, amazing architectural drawings, and correspondence between Wright and Johnson.  The curvaceous, horizontally-oriented Administration Building, also naturally lit with Pyrex glass tubing, is famous for its Great Workroom's amazing 'mushroom' columns, with their 9 inch diameter bases and 18.5 foot diameter tops. Wright convinced authorities to allow the unusual structures by stacking several tons of sandbags on top of them prior to construction. He (or course) designed all the furniture in the building (including the tippy three legged chairs), as well as its brass 'bird cage' elevators. It's the only working Frank Lloyd Wright office in the world. Speaking of Norman Foster , on the tour you'll visit his Fortaleza Hall, which opened in 2010. The building includes a sweeping glass atrium containing exhibits about the building and company, and The Commons, (fronted by a Patrick Blanc green wall) which provides employee amenities. The tour also takes visitors to Wingspread, the Wright-designed, pinwheel-planned home for H.F. Johnson Jr., and to the spaceship-like Golden Rondelle Theater (not designed by Wright), which was shipped to Racine after the 1964 New York World's Fair.  On display at the SC Johnson Gallery is the Wasmuth Portfolio, which features almost 50 gorgeous lithographs and artifacts from Wright's most famous book. SC Johnson is also hosting three lectures and two films associated with the Biennial as well as its first-ever 'Wright at Night' tours on Thursdays.

Ukraine-Russia war latest: Vladimir Putin repeats warning he could send weapons to adversaries of the West

Speaking at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Vladimir Putin also says he does not see the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons as set out in Russia's nuclear doctrine - but adds he could not rule out a change to it.

Thank you for reading.

We will be back soon with more updates from the war in Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin has said he does not see the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons as set out in Russia's nuclear doctrine - but added he could not rule out a change to the doctrine.

"We have a nuclear doctrine which states that the use of nuclear arms is possible in an exceptional case, when the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country is threatened," he told the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"But the doctrine can be changed.

"The same applies to nuclear tests. We will carry out tests if needed, but so far there is no such need."

Russia could send weapons to adversaries of the West, Vladimir Putin has warned for a second time.

The Russian president repeated the warning from earlier this week during the St Petersburg Economic Forum.

He did not say what countries or entities he was referring to, and he stressed that Moscow is not doing it currently.

"If they supply (weapons) to the combat zone and call for using these weapons against our territory, why don't we have the right to do the same?" he told the crowds.

"But I'm not ready to say that we will be doing it tomorrow, either."

On Wednesday, Putin told international journalists that Russia could provide long-range weapons to others to strike Western targets in response to NATO allies allowing Ukraine to use their arms to attack Russian territory.

He also reaffirmed Moscow's readiness to use nuclear weapons if it sees a threat to its sovereignty.

Joe Biden has apologised to Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the recent delay in approving new US aid for Ukraine.

Last month, following months of political disagreements, the Senate passed $95bn (£76.2bn) in war aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan .

"I apologise for those weeks of not knowing," the US president said.

"Some of our very conservative members [of Congress] were holding it up.

"But we got it done, finally. We're still in - completely, totally."

The Ukrainian president thanked his counterpart for American assistance.

"It's very important that you stay with us," he said.

"It's very important that in this unity, the United States of America, all American people stay with Ukraine, like it was during World War Two - how the United States helped to save human lives, to save Europe."

The two men were speaking in Paris, the day after D-Day commemorations in Normandy.

Russia needs to boost its use of non-Western currencies, Vladimir Putin said as he addressed the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

He also said his country needs to reduce imports while calling for a major expansion of its domestic financial markets.

Trade with Asia is soaring, he told delegates, adding that almost two fifths of Russian external trade is now in roubles.

The share conducted in US dollars, euros and other Western currencies has declined.

Russia will try to boost the share of settlements conducted in the currencies of BRICS countries - which include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Mr Putin said.

"Last year, the share of payments for Russian exports in the so–called 'toxic' currencies of unfriendly states halved, while the share of the rouble in export and import transactions is growing - it is approaching 40% today," the president said.

Russia has referred to nations that imposed sanctions on it as "unfriendly".

The session begins with an address by the Russian president.

Vladimir Putin says there is a race among world powers to establish sovereignty.

He speaks of the need for countries to both establish partnerships and also to look internally to tackle challenges presented by the current global economic landscape.

Despite all the "obstacles and illegitimate sanctions", Russia remains one of the world's economic leaders, he says.

He adds that "friendly countries" - those that have not joined sanctions against Moscow - account for three quarters of Russia's mutual trade turnover, and praises them for that.

Countries including India and China have strengthened economic ties since Mr Putin launched his war in Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin has taken to the stage in St Petersburg to address the International Economic Forum there.

He's joined by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwais and Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora.

Chairing the session is Sergey Karaganov - a Russian political scientist.

We'll bring you any key lines here in this live blog.

A T-shirt is on sale at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum printed with a phrase attributed to Vladimir Putin, Sky News has discovered.

"If a fight is inevitable, throw the first punch," it says.

The Russian president reportedly said it in 2015.

He apparently explained that it was something he had learned while growing up on the streets of Leningrad - a former name of St Petersburg.

The Russian defence ministry has accused Ukraine of injuring 20 people, including children, in a missile attack on the Russian-controlled eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk, using US-supplied ATACMS missiles.

Four of five missiles were shot down by air defence systems, the ministry said in a statement.

However, one of the missiles damaged two residential apartment blocks, it added, claiming it was deliberate.

Sky News is unable to verify the allegations.

There has been no immediate comment from Ukraine.

The European Commission supports starting EU accession talks with Ukraine, the country's prime minister has said.

Denys Shmyhal said the commission had confirmed in a report that Kyiv had fulfilled the remaining steps required to start negotiations.

"Now we expect our European partners to take the next step - to start negotiations on European Union membership this month," Mr Shmyhal said on Telegram.

Earlier (7.43am post) we reported that the commission was reportedly ready to recommend that accession talks get underway.

It is part of an attempt to signal support for Kyiv before Hungary takes over the rotating presidency of the EU next month, the Financial Times reported.

The EU announced earlier this year that it was sending an additional £42bn in aid to Ukraine - but only after  weeks of resistance from Hungary , which reportedly has concerns about minority rights in Ukraine.

Why Did Sen Johnson Spend 4th of July in Moscow?

If you enjoyed time away from home/work/news last week, maybe you missed reports of  the Congressional Delegation that visited Russia over the Independence Day holiday . The visit by seven Senate Republicans and one Republican from the House of Representatives included Wisconsin’s Senior Senator Ron Johnson, who chairs the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation.

I have wondered for days why the trip happened, how that timing was set, what was discussed, and what (if anything) came from the visit with top Russian government officials. Having had no success getting comment from his office through Twitter, I was glad to find this interview he did with Byron York in the Washington Examiner where Johnson explains the content of the meeting.

According to his statements, the meetings focused primarily on claims of election meddling in 2016, claims which the Russians refuted by pointing to American expenditure on efforts to support democracy in Russia — election meddling by the US as they see it. Other topics included Russian occupation of Crimea and East Ukraine, US sanctions on Russia, and the tampering underway that could influence the 2018 midterm elections.

President Trump is scheduled for a one-on-one meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 16. Perhaps the visit was laying groundwork for that summit, but why be there on the 4th of July? Read the story, then tell me: do you still have questions about the purpose and outcomes of this trip, or are you satisfied with Sen Johonson’s explanation?

Email me at [email protected] with your reactions and questions.

SC Johnson Supplier Code of Conduct: The Standards for How We Work Together to Make Life Better

  • A World with More Opportunity
  • Supplier Code of Conduct

SC Johnson believes in making every place where we operate better, because we have been there. We are committed to respecting people and supporting universal human rights, adhering to local laws and regulations, contributing positively to our communities, and minimizing our impact on the environment. As our Chairman and CEO Fisk Johnson explains, “As a family company, there’s nothing more important than treating people fairly and with respect, and living up to the expectations of future generations. We are guided by our principles, and we expect SC Johnson suppliers to share this commitment to doing what’s right.”

SC Johnson Corporate Values and Our Supplier Requirements

The SC Johnson Supplier Code of Conduct specifies the minimum requirements for our suppliers four key areas: Human Rights & Labor; Safety, Health & Environment; Sustainability; and Business Ethics. We require all of our suppliers to comply with the Code. It also sets out aspirations for our longer-term suppliers to be working towards with us. We expect suppliers, contract manufacturers, contractors, vendors and other business relations and providers of goods or services to share our ethic and commitment. We reserve the right to terminate any contracts and our business relationship with any supplier that does not meet the minimum requirements of this Code.

Supply Chain Ethics: SC Johnson Makes Reporting Easy

If you have a concern about an SC Johnson supplier relating to matters covered in the SC Johnson Supplier Code of Conduct, the best first step would be to talk with your SC Johnson contact. However, if for any reason you would prefer to report your concern to SC Johnson anonymously, you can do so by calling our Ethics and Compliance Hotline.

"We are guided by our principles, and we expect SC Johnson suppliers to share this commitment to doing what’s right."  - Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson

What to Report

SC Johnson’s Ethics and Compliance Hotline is only for reporting concerns related to the requirements and expectations described in the SC Johnson Supplier Code of Conduct.

For any other communication, please use your regular means of contacting the company. The hotline is only for reporting Code-related issues.

How Telephone Reporting Works

  • An English-speaking interview specialist will answer your call.  If applicable and available for your location, the interview specialist will give you the option to have the call in English or the local language and conference in an interpreter who speaks your language. The interviewer asks questions and documents the report. The call is not recorded and you do not have to give your name, though doing so may assist the investigation.
  • The interviewer gives you a report number to ensure confidentiality and may ask you to call back at a later time in case additional information is needed.
  • If you chose to provide your name and contact information, someone from SC Johnson may contact you directly.
  • If you chose to remain anonymous, you can call back at the scheduled time, with your report number, and may be asked additional questions.

Phone Numbers

For calls in the United States or Canada, you can reach the Ethics and Compliance Hotline at 877-883-6676.   For calls outside the United States or Canada, follow these steps:

  • Find your country name in the list below. Note that you may need to use alternative options for certain countries depending on the location and/or type of telephone you use to place the call.
  • If direct dial is an option in your country, dial the toll-free telephone number to connect to the hotline.
  • If necessary, dial the country-specific access code to reach AT&T. Then, when prompted, enter the toll-free telephone number to connect to the hotline.
