The Sellaronda, a unique round trip around the Sella massif in the Dolomites

Around 26 km of beautiful, perfectly groomed slopes connecting val gardena, val badia, val di fassa and arabba..

ski tour sellaronda

The Sellaronda can be done clockwise: orange direction, or anticlockwise: green direction. Below you will find both suggestions starting from Selva Val Gardena.

The Sellaronda, also known as the 4 Passes Tour (Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella and Gardena Passes) is unique: a ski carousel totalling 40 km (lifts and slopes) surrounded by breathtaking scenery: rocky peaks, dense forests and snow-covered landscapes. The 4 ski areas are connected by modern lifts and are suitable for skiers of medium skiing ability. The tour can be started from any of the 4 ski valleys and is easy to do in 5 to 6 hours. It is worth taking a leisurely approach to the Sella circuit in order to admire the impressive scenery of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and to take a few breaks in some of the numerous refuges to recharge your batteries. It is advisable to check well the travel times of the lifts in order to return before they close.

The clockwise orange route starts with the Costabella chairlift in the centre of Selva Gardena, which takes you to the Dantercëpies cable car to reach the Gardena Pass. Then head down the slopes to Colfosco, where the Borest chairlift will take you to Corvara. Take the Boè cable car up to Campolongo to ascend to Bec de Roces. The route to Arabba starts with the cable car to Porta Vescovo, from where you ski to Pont de Vauz. The Fedom chairlift takes you to the Pordoi Pass, where a short descent connects you to the Lezuo chairlift, which takes you to Belvedere. After the descent to Pian Frataces you reach Lupo Bianco, where a chairlift takes you towards Col Rodella and then you reach the Sella Pass. A beautiful descent takes you back to Selva di Val Gardena.

The route marked in green on the map, anticlockwise, starts in Selva Gardena with the Ciampinoi cable car. Follow the slope no. 5 to Plan de Gralba and take the Piz Setëur chairlift. Ski down to the Sassolungo chairlift, through the beautiful "Stone City" to the Sella Pass. Continue with the Sasso Levante chairlift to the Salei valley, at the end of which you take the Pian Frataces chairlift, better known as Lupo Bianco, where the 6-seater chairlift leads to the Sas Becè hut. A long descent connects the Belvedere ski area with Arabba. Now take the chairlift to Bec de Roces, then down to the Campolongo Pass and continue with the chairlift to Crëp di Mont. Continue as far as Corvara. Two chairlifts take you towards Colfosco, from where a long cable car takes you to the Jimmy hut and the Val Setus chairlift to the Gardena Pass. The chairlift takes you up to Dantercepies, from where a beautiful descent through the forest takes you back to Selva Val Gardena.

You will find a list of accommodation facilities such as hotels, guesthouses, garnis, residences, flats and mountain huts, a list of events and the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Dolomites of the Sellaronda. We offer also tourist information such as: snow report, traffic information, useful numbers, shopping info, skiing, ski schools, taxi service and much more.

Sellaronda Ski Tour

DISCOVER THE MOST FAMOUS SKI TOUR IN THE WORLD

Cross the dolomites and admire amazing views, possible route variation: val de mezdĺ.

As well as the traditional activities of skiing mountaineering and off-piste skiing, the mountain guides are the ideal companions to be accompanied on the pistes in the  most famous resorts of the Dolomites .

The most famous is certainly the Sellaronda Ski Tour, the spectacular ski carousel that crosses through the four Ladin valleys of Livinallongo-Arabba, Badia, Gardena, and Fassa, with a total length of 25 miles, 16 of which are for skiing, set in a landscape of rare beauty.

Sellaronda Ski Tour, amazing Dolomites!

One of the most beautiful ski raids in the world, the Sella Ronda is a ski tour around the Sella Massif. You can do this ski safari, clock- or counterclockwise.

Along the route, there are plenty of refuges and refreshment points where you can stop off to recharge your batteries before setting off again with renewed vigor in search of new thrills. It can easily be done in a day by intermediate skiers. The trip is a circular route, so it can be started from any of the 4 valleys that surround the Sella.

For expert skiers, there is the opportunity to the Sass Pordoi cable car (2.860 m) and then ski down the Sella Massif through the spectacular Val de Mezdì. This valley offers panoramic views and was the location of several scenes from the movie, Cliffhanger. This route is entirely off-piste and requires a one-hour trek from the cable car summit to the top of the Val de Mezdì (3.400 m) where a 3 km technical and steep descent awaits skiers.

The Sella Ronda Ski Tour also gives access to a further 500 km of connected skiing with neighboring resorts, so there is no shortage of trails should you wish to explore.

If you are staying in Cortina, the average skier would be rushed to finish it in a day. An overnight stay in Rifugio Lagazoui or one of the other villages is recommended. Do you like skiing? Believe me, don’t miss the Sellaronda Ski Tour!

  • Difficulty : even for intermediate skiers.
  • Price : 130 Euros per person (with 3 people).
  • Note : the ski pass is not included.

Sellaronda Ski Marathon

The legendary night ski mountaineering race celebrates its 30th edition on March 22, 2024

42 km long, 2,800 m of elevation, rapid descents in the moonlight: we're talking about one of the most extraordinary ski races in the world that's going to take place on March 22, 2024 at 6 p.m. It's the day on which around 1,000 top athletes compete in a two-person team across the pistes of the Dolomites. They'll do the ski marathon  clockwise and will therefore start from  Canazei to ski  around the Sella massif.  After knitting  Selva Gardena and Corvara in Alta Badia  together, the athletes will return back to Canazei. Not everyone has the physical resistance and training to cope with the extreme conditions of this night race: just think that the route winding through the snow-capped mountains is only illuminated by the dim light of headlamps and starry sky. The fastest time for this marathon is slighlty exceeding three hours.

Wear a helmet

Skiers and snowboarders under 18 years of age are required to wear a helmet.

Get a policy insurance

To gain access to ski areas, you need to get the liability insurance (RC) to be protected against unwilling damage . Although most common policies cover winter sports, always make sure with your insurance company what are the benefits and coverage of yours.

For instance, the insurance "Snowcare" can be purchased for 3€ per day and is the most known ski and snowboard insurance in Europe. Check this website for more information.

Respect others and signage

Check your speed, signage, ride appropriately and choose the level of difficulty based on youyr skiing ability.

If you want to overtake, make sure there is enough room.

Don't underestimate the run traffic and the snow conditions during your time on the slopes.

If you fall, don't obstruct the way and stay where you are visible from above.

In case you are injured and cannot stand up, other skiers have the duty to provide assistance.

Remain at the scene and identify yourself, if you caused the accident or are a witness.

Descending on foot

If you can't finish the run on skies or snowboard, you can walk down only by sticking to the side of the route.

Skiing while intoxicated

Drunk skiing is as dangerous as drink driving and it is therefore forbidden by the law. The maximum consumpion permitted is 0,5% grams of alcohol in every 100ml of blood.

In critical situations, the  SOS EU ALP app  gives you assistance. It locates where you are and your position is then transmitted to the responsible control center, which can provide notifications to the medical services, mountain, ground or air rescue units. This safety service is available in South Tyrol’s regions and Bavaria.

Sellaronda Ski Tour

Sellaronda tour, skiing to the top of the dolomites.

Are you a true skiing enthusiast? Your CV can certainly not miss the legendary Sellaronda , the most famous ski tour in the Alps. It is a scenic route of about 40 km , without ever taking off your skis, without ever skiing the same run twice.

An adventure, always above 2,000 metres , where your gaze sweeps over horizons drawn by the Dolomites , now a World Natural Heritage site.

Ph.FassaLifts 19032019 IMG 6298

It is the tour of the four passes (Pordoi, Sella, Gardena and Campolongo) that crosses the Ladin valleys of Fassa (Trentino), Gardena (South Tyrol), Badia (South Tyrol) and Arabba (Veneto). A carousel of slopes of medium or advanced level, all connected by modern ski lifts. The route can be easily tackled in 5-6 hours, even by less experienced skiers, with the Dolomiti Superski ski pass .

An adventure, always above 2,000 metres, where your gaze sweeps over horizons drawn by the splendid Dolomites. From each valley around the rocky Sella massif you set off for the Sellaronda. The important thing is to start the tour no later than 10 a.m. For Val di Fassa the gateways are Canazei-Belvedere and Campitello-Col Rodella . You can take it in either direction, recognisable by the colour of the signs: orange for clockwise , green for anticlockwise .

Starting from Canazei , take the "Belvedere" gondola to " Pecol "; then continue with the Toé "gondola", which allows you to reach the starting point for both directions. Alternatively, from "Pecol" take the cable car up to " Col dei Rossi " at 2,382 metres, a wonderful observation point over Val di Fassa that can also be reached by cable car from Alba di Canazei. From here, descend to the top station of the "Toé" cableway to start the tour proper.

The Sellaronda tour also starts from Campitello ; take the cable car up to "Col Rodella" and follow the green or orange signs from there.

Reach the last pass by 3.30 p.m. so as to return to Canazei or Campitello in time. In case of bad weather (heavy snow or wind), some lifts may close without notice.

SELLARONDA SKI TOUR

The famous Sellaronda ski tour known also as Four Passes Tour, is one of the best Dolomiti Superski attraction, considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular ski tour in the world.

This tour is full of uniqueness starting from the fact to be a ring tour around Sella mountain group in the heart of the Dolomites .

Following this tour you will cross 4 ladin valleys on your skis: Gardena, Alta Badia, Arabba and Fassa valley. You will reach also four Dolomites Passes like: Gardena, Campolongo, Pordoi and Sella.

Sellaronda is a skitour 40 kilometers long, 27 of which are on your skis and the other on comfy and modern ropeways.

This famous ski tour could be done in both directions: clockwise following orange indicators, or anticlockwise following green signs.

If you are going to stay in a Rocca Pietore accommodation, you can decide to take Padon chairlift which will allow you to reach Arabba in few minutes and to be one of the first skier of the day.

This tour can be easily completed in a day by a medium skier.

Bald Mountain (Pierce, ID)

Located in the vast Clearwater Mountains along the Gold Rush Historic Byway in North Central Idaho, Bald Mountain has been serving up winter fun since 1959. Terrain for all skill levels, great powder and a family-friendly feel are why this is called the best little ski hill in Idaho.

Facebook

While Bogus Basin, located just 16 miles north of Downtown Boise, is Idaho’s second largest ski area, summer is huge here. The Basin Gravity Park offers nine new downhill mountain biking trails. 18 miles of cross-country trails, including the number-one mountain biking trail in Idaho have something for all skill levels. There's also Idaho’s only mountain coaster, a climbing wall, bungee trampoline, tubing hill and the Music on the Mountain concert series to keep you everyone entertained all summer long.

Twitter

During the summer months, Brundage Mountain is open Wednesdays through Sundays with outdoor activities for the whole family. An expanding system of lift-served downhill and XC mountain bike trails offers exciting options for all skill levels. A variety of scenic hiking trails appeal to all abilities and ambitions. Scenic chairlift rides, disc golf and lawn games round out the more low-key activities. And when you’re ready to wind down, you can grab a bite at Smoky’s Bar & Grill or sit back and relax in the cool mountain air during the FREE TGIF concert series.

Cottonwood Butte

The Cottonwood Butte Ski Area is located in the heart of the Camas Prairie near the town of Cottonwood, Idaho. With four major groomed runs and several powder-filled trails among the trees, the terrain will challenge intermediate, advanced and expert skiers and riders. There’s even a great bunny slope, perfect for beginners. And if you’re hungry, you can grab a bite between runs from the friendly folks behind the lunch counter in the lodge. It’s a perfect little getaway for any day.

Grand Targhee

Just a short drive east of Driggs, Idaho, you’ll find Grand Targhee Resort high on the west side of the Grand Tetons. It offers 2,200 vertical feet of award-winning, lift-served mountain biking, 17 miles of downhill trails, more than 70 miles of multi-use trails for biking, hiking and running, plus a mountain bike school for beginners. And if mountain biking isn’t your thing, Grand Targhee also offers scenic chairlift rides, a nature center, horseback riding, an outdoor pool, a bungee trampoline, a summer kids camp, the GTR Mining Co., and 18-hole disc golf course for family-friendly fun all summer long.

Youtube

Kelly Canyon is home to 18 miles of lift-served and cross-country trail designed by world-renowned developer, Alpine Bike Parks. Whether you’re looking for a steep downhill rush or something more mellow, you’ll find it here with an unmistakable family-friendly vibe that makes a perfect summer outing for everyone.

Little Ski Hill

Small, but action-packed, Little Ski Hill has been serving up winter fun to the region's youth and skiing community for over 75 years. Located two miles north of McCall, it’s the only lit ski and snowboard hill in the area. And let’s not forget the miles of groomed cross-country trails and the terrain park, complete with airbag for learning tricks. It’s a great way to spend the day (or night) the next time you’re in McCall.

Lookout Pass

When the snow melts and summer sets in, a whole new season of family-friendly fun begins at Lookout. Hop on a scenic chairlift ride and take in the breathtaking views of the Bitterroot Mountains. Play a round of frisbee golf on their mountaintop 9-hole course. Go huckleberry picking. Get out on the family friendly hiking trails. Or hit the lift-served downhill mountain biking trails for all skill levels. Then, if you and your family decide to play a little longer, there’s no shortage of lodging options to choose from for an unforgettable summer stay.

Lost Trail

This hidden jewel of the Rocky Mountains on the Idaho-Montana border is truly a local secret that’s been offering great runs and scenic views from atop the Continental Divide for over 76 years. The uncrowded slopes pretty much let you and your family have the place to yourself, whether you’re just learning the sport or have been at it for years. And just a short drive down the mountain, you’ll find plenty of dining and lodging options to make the trip complete.

Magic Mountain

Magic Mountain Resort is a great family mountain and a sweet little day trip for skiers and snowboarders alike. There’s terrain for all skill levels, including a terrain park, natural rocks and cliffs, and a great beginner’s package if you’re just starting out. And for the price, this little slice of southern Idaho paradise can’t be beat.

Pebble Creek

Just a short drive from Pocatello, Idaho, the Pebble Creek Ski Area sits atop Mt. Bonneville in the Portneuf Range. It’s the perfect trip for beginner and expert skiers alike with plenty of terrain to accommodate all skill levels. And of course, no day would be complete without a visit to the classic Rock Bottom Saloon for some après ski food and drink. Or, if you want to stick around a little longer (and you probably will), there’s no shortage of family-friendly lodging options nearby.

Pomerelle

Two dozen perfectly groomed trails off the beaten path in the Sawtooth Mountains? Yes, please! Pomerelle has plenty to offer every skier and rider, from beginners to experts to tricksters and everything in between. It’s definitely enough to work up an appetite – one you can happily satisfy at the Slopeside Grille while taking in spectacular views and working on your winter tan. Or you can take a short drive into Burly or Albion for even more dining and lodging options.

Schweitzer

While Schweitzer ranks as one of the nation’s top winter destinations, there’s even more to enjoy once summer sets in. Mountain bikers can ride more than 40 miles of downhill and cross-country trails for all skill levels. A leisurly and scenic chairlift ride to the summit offers breathtaking views of the Selkirk, Bitterroot, and Cabinet mountains, and lake Pend Oreille. There’s also hiking, trail running, disc golf, huckleberry picking and summer festivals like the Northwest Winefest for all the family-friendly fun you can handle.

Silver Mountain

Did someone say downhill? Summer at Silver Mountain is when the region’s best lift-served mountain bike park comes to life and lets you send it all summer long. Then there’s the Nation’s longest single-stage gondola, great hiking trails, a stunning 9-hole mountain golf course, and even surfing at Idaho’s largest indoor water park. There’s also plenty of lodging in the heart of the gondola village along with family-friendly entertainment and enough dining options to satisfy every appetite.

Snowhaven

In Grangeville, Idaho, on the Grangeville Salmon Road, this weekend ski hill offers some of the easiest access to skiing, riding and tubing in Idaho. Along with plenty of great beginner and intermediate runs, it’s just around the corner from some of Idaho's best cross-country skiing. It’s also home to one of the largest tubing hills in the west, including two 1,100-foot runs serviced by their own 600-foot lift. And at the end of the day, you’re just 7 miles from great dining and lodging options in beautiful downtown Grangeville.

Soldier Mountain

Summer weekends at Soldier Mountain mean cooling off by shredding the new downhill trail system. Starting at 6,628 feet, 7.7 miles of gravity mountain biking has something for everyone. Easy trails for beginners. Intermediate trails for something more exciting. And advanced, machine-cut jump trails for those craving a full-on adrenaline rush. After a full day on the trails, you can top it all off with a stop at the resort’s restaurant and bar.

Sun Valley

After every epic ski season, world-famous Sun Valley Resort serves up summer fun for everyone. Mountain bikers will enjoy hundreds of miles of singletrack, while 30 miles of paved bike paths offer more relaxed riding throughout the Wood River Valley. Golfers can take on three championship golf courses. There’s also an array of other family-friendly activities, including scenic gondola rides, a spa, a shooting range, bowling, fly fishing, hiking, trail running, ice skating, tennis, horseback rides, and three outdoor swimming pools, along with concerts, festivals and shows all throughout the summer.

Tamarack

As a four season, family-friendly resort, Tamarack shines every summer. 27+ miles of lift-served mountain bike trails offer downhill excitement for riders of all skill levels. Zipline canopy tours explore 3,500 feet of terrain. Resort guests can also enjoy boat rentals on Lake Cascade and guided whitewater trips on the scenic Payett river, along with disc golf, paddleboarding and the Sunset Concert series. Plus there’s no shortage of luxury accommodations, from hotel rooms and condos to wilderness chalets, so you can stay where you love to play.

Rotarun

Just three miles west of Hailey, Idaho, you’ll find Rotarun, a nonprofit ski area that’s been a community hub for local winter sports since 1948. Today, Rotarun is dedicated to providing affordable access to snow sports for the Wood River Valley, including tuition-free learn to ski and ride programs for underrepresented youth in the community. That's why Rotarun is dubbed “the little mountain with a big heart.” And as far as we’re concerned, big fun, too. So don’t miss out on this hidden little gem.

The length of Vermont on skis

Section 22: Bolton Valley to Trapp Family Lodge

ski tour sellaronda

This popular section is a rugged, backcountry tour climbing 1300 feet and descending 2300 feet. It features a narrow trail in the spruce forest above 2700 feet, a long descent through open forest, and marvelous views in many directions – the Little River and Cotton Brook Valleys and Worcester Range to the east, Camel’s Hump to the south and Mt. Mansfield to the north. The region between Bolton Valley and the start of the descent is a reliable area to find good early and late season snow, but the descent becomes very difficult if the snow is icy or crusty, or if there is insufficient snow cover.

The portion between Bolton Valley and Nebraska Valley Rd. is suitable for advanced, properly equipped skiers only. It is long, isolated, and very steep. A group of three or more skiers is recommended for safety purposes. The portion between Nebraska Valley Rd. and Trapp Family Lodge is suitable for intermediate skiers because of the easier terrain. The last bit is on Trapp’s groomed trails.

Note: Please remember to check in at the nordic center where you begin your tour (Trapp or Bolton) and purchase a trail pass. CTA members receive a coupon for discounted passes at both areas in their Membership Rewards Book .

Staying Found

Out in the woods keeping track of where you are can be a challenge. A map and compass is always a reliable option, but there are some great technological solutions that can make knowing where you are super simple. Please visit out Staying Found Webpage for more info about some of our favorite navigational tools, and note that all of our PDF maps are geo-referenced. This means they can be opened directly in apps like Avenza and used for navigation even in areas where there is no cell service.
