November may seem like an inconvenient time to vacation due to Thanksgiving at the end of the month, but there are benefits to traveling at the end of the fall shoulder season. Crowds at popular destinations are a thing of the past, and hotel rates are often brilliantly low. U.S. News took into account these factors (and more) and considered a variety of destinations, from outdoorsy spots to big cities to small towns, both domestically and abroad, to compile the best places to visit in November. Travelers seeking a cheap European vacation should consider a November getaway to Portugal's capital city. Temperatures remain comfortably in the 50s and 60s throughout the month, and although you can expect an increase in precipitation, the lack of crowds and inexpensive hotel prices more than make up for the rain. You'll appreciate the extra elbow room while riding Tram 28, a must-see Lisbon symbol that takes tourists past top sights like St. George's Castle and many beautiful miradouros (scenic viewpoints). What's more, the popular yellow tram provides easy access to Alfama, Lisbon's picturesque historic district.

A trip to the Swiss Alps in November appeals to those who want to save some money and avoid the peak ski season crowds. Ski season doesn't officially start until December, but there are several cable cars and ski resorts, including Saas-Fee and Zermatt, that may open early if they see snowfall. If you arrive before the snow, don't fret: You can trade shredding powder for hiking or biking various resorts' trails. Meanwhile, non-skiers will want to head to Geneva in early November to experience the annual Geneva International Film Festival.

Reasons to visit Chiang Mai in November are multifold. Top attractions here include Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm temples, along with the Cambodian Landmine Museum and Angkor National Museum. Plus, November brings the city's annual Cambodian Water Festival, a multi-day event complete with boat races, live music and food.

If you can look past the increase in rainfall, Crete in November yields some pretty big wins. Not only do hotel prices fall and crowds thin out, but several events also take place throughout the month. Though you can expect chilly weather (think: average temperatures in the mid-40s), a November trip to Hungary's capital city is well worth your while. Take advantage of the relative quiet by warming up with a relaxing soak in Budapest's thermal baths or touring the Hungarian House of Parliament building. Just don't forget to save time for exploring Fisherman's Bastion, a neo-Gothic style structure boasting lookout towers and terraces with panoramic views of the city.

Situated on the southern coast of Croatia overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik boasts grand medieval architecture and fascinating historical sites. Average temperatures sit in the mid-60s in November and rainy days are likely, so this isn't the best time to lounge on the city's picture-perfect beaches . But it is the best time to visit for travelers hoping to avoid the crowds and protect their wallets. You'll find shorter lines at popular attractions like the Walls of Dubrovnik, and you'll rub elbows with fewer strangers when strolling through Dubrovnik's scenic Old Town.

Located along the U.S.-Mexico border, Big Bend National Park is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. Because of the park's popularity during this time, be sure to book your accommodations early.

Visiting Istanbul during the city's shoulder season provides several perks. Summer tourists have vacated, leaving behind crowd-free attractions and affordable room rates. Plus, average temperatures are still comfortable in the 50s and 60s, meaning travelers don't need to worry about packing their snow boots (although rain is likely). Spend your vacation exploring this Turkish city's gorgeous mosques (the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are must-visit landmarks), perusing the Topkapi Palace Museum or strolling through the Besiktas and Beyoglu districts for a taste of local culture.

Visit Curacao at the end of its offseason to score major deals on airfare and accommodations. Though you'll come across some rain during a November vacation, you won't have to worry about the threat of a hurricane thanks to the island nation's location outside of the Caribbean's hurricane belt. Luckily, showers mostly occur at night, leaving you plenty of time to soak up some sun on the island's white sand beaches . Head to Playa Lagun or Cas Abao Beach to swim and snorkel, or take a stroll down the Handelskade pier to admire the colorful buildings and gorgeous water.

For those hoping to soak up the final glorious weeks of autumn’s aesthetic, the Berkshires have you covered. Places like Vienna and Oaxaca , meanwhile, have lively line-ups of cultural activities and festivals. And then there are the reliable, evergreen favorites that happen to shine a little brighter in November, from St. Barts to the Seychelles. Whether you want to shop, sunbathe, or eat Italian food for an entire week, these are the 10 best places to travel in November this year.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Every year, on the full moon of the twelfth month of the Thai lunar calendar (November 15–16 this year), the skies of Chiang Mai become a true sight to behold. This is courtesy of the annual Yi Peng Lantern Festival , in which people release thousands of glowing orange paper lanterns into the air, to symbolize the release of any negativity from the past year and the invitation of positivity moving forward.

There are tons of other reasons to visit Thailand’s northern cultural capital, of course, from the thriving arts and design scene to steaming bowls of khao soi. When it comes to accommodations, you can’t do much better than Anantara Chiang Mai Resort . Although it’s just a short tuk-tuk ride away from Old Town, the property feels more like a country retreat, thanks to a bamboo wall encircling the entire resort, rooms with super-sized terraces, an infinity pool surrounded by lily ponds, and a decadent afternoon tea service.

Vienna, Austria

As one of the world’s cultural capitals, Vienna offers a constant string of concerts, operas, art fairs, and festivals. This November, visit the Austrian capital for the 20th anniversary of Vienna Art Week (November 8–15), where you can enjoy more than 100 events ranging from studio visits to live performances. The best part? All admission is free.

November is shoulder season in Panama, as the wet weather of the winter disperses but the prices remain lower than in summer. It’s also when celebrations take place to mark the founding of the country—not once, but twice. On November 28, locals mark Independence Day, when this chunk of central America broke away from colonial Spain in 1821; November 3 is Separation Day, when Panama emerged as a self-governing country separate from Gran Colombia 82 years later. Get the best views from the top of Mount Greylock , where you can see up to 90 miles away when the air is clear.

One of the best places to set up camp is Miraval Berkshires in the charming town of Lenox, where horse stables and cottage-style rooms will make you feel like you’re at an upscale sleepaway camp.

Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Though often overlooked for Tuscany’s bucolic hills and the Amalfi Coast’s glittering villages, Emilia-Romagna is well-deserving of the spotlight. The region especially shines in the autumn months, with temperatures hovering in the low 60s and festivals popping up to celebrate the area’s food and wine. Starting in October and stretching through the first weekend of November, the annual Tartufesta (White Truffle Festival) returns this year to the small village of Sasso Marconi surrounding Bologna, complete with markets, tasting menus, and truffle-hunting tours.

Whether you want to relax on the beach in Southern Vietnam or hop on your bike in Death Valley, USA, the world is waiting to be explored. Go bird-watching in Panama, take a road trip on New Zealand’s North Island, or eat your way across South Korea ⁠– trust us, the year is far from over.

Where are the best places to travel to in November for relaxation?

Why now? It’s excellent weather for everything.

Ghana has a great mix. In this diverse wedge of West Africa , you’ll find lush rainforests, soft-sand beaches, rich history, vibrant villages and parks a-scutter with life. Loitering just above the equator, the temperature here changes little year-round (expect 27–30°C/80–86°F) – but November marks the start of the drier months, when travel is easier and the countryside abundantly green, but the harsh harmattan wind hasn’t yet started blowing from the Sahara.

It’s a good time to visit the Unesco-listed shrines of the great Ashanti civilization, safari in spots such as Mole National Park (where you can walk amid elephants and vervet monkeys) and retrace the coast’s haunting past. Some 40 fortresses were built here, where enslaved people were held before facing the horrors of the Middle Passage; Cape Coast and Elmina castles are especially moving. November is also a good time to meet Ghana’s people: head to the fishing settlements in the south, the animist Lobi villages of the north and the many communities in between.

Southern Vietnam

Why now? Swim, snorkel, sunbathe and explore the Mekong Delta.

Vietnam ’s southern tip is a lucky dip of the region’s best bits: the heady rush of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), moving relics of war, the Mekong Delta ’s paddies and villages, and beautiful, beach-lined Phu Quoc and Con Dao Islands. Both hosted colonial French prisons – you can visit the haunting remains – but are now better known as chill-out getaways, perfect in November after rain and humidity have eased. Closer to Cambodia than Vietnam, Phu Quoc has varied accommodations, great snorkeling and some lovely, quiet beaches. Con Dao is more remote and rugged, hosting nesting turtles (June to September) and dugongs as well as peaceful resorts on breathtaking beaches.

Panama boasts some of the best birding in Central America . Almost 1000 species have been recorded on this narrow isthmus – from big-billed toucans and bright-plumed trogons to motmots, manakins, puffbirds and jacamars. And in October/November, the numbers swell, as almost two million broad-winged hawks, Swainson’s hawks and turkey vultures migrate south via Panama’s jungle, joining an assemblage of sloths, howler monkeys and colorful frogs too. Soberíana National Park is a superb place to try to spot them. Easily accessible from Panama City , and sitting astride the Panama Canal , the park has a range of self-guided walking routes. (The 17km/10.5-mile Pipeline trail is renowned for its brilliant bird sightings.) It’s also possible to arrange guided strolls, night excursions and boat trips, and to stay in a lodge perched up in the canopy.

North Island, New Zealand

Why now? Hit the road for less.

Quiet, scenic roads; sleeping in out-of-the-way places; the chance to go wherever the mood takes you... There are few better ways to explore New Zealand than by camper. High summer seems best for a road trip – but it’s also more expensive, whereas hiring a camper outside peak season can be up to 50% cheaper. End-of-spring November is a smart choice: lower prices and fewer tourists, but warming up nicely and rampant with wildflowers. The North Island will be a bit warmer than the South – Auckland highs average 20°C (68°F) this month. It’s also bubbling with geothermal activity, so if it does get a little chilly you can warm up at Rotorua and Lake Taupo ’s hot-spring complexes, or find wild-and-free thermal pools such as Kerosene Creek (near Rotorua), which has a hot waterfall. There’s also plenty of warmer-weather fun: blackwater raft through Waitomo’s glowworm caves , shelter amid the Hobbiton film set or walk beneath Waipoua Forest’s towering kauri trees.

Oaxaca, Mexico

Why now? To dally with death at its most celebratory.

Día de los Muertos – the Day of the Dead – is celebrated over three nights, from October 31 to November 2. According to Mexican tradition, it’s when the deceased may briefly cross into the world of the living. Families construct graveside altars, adorned with photos, candles, marigolds and sweets; skull masks are worn, marching bands play, and everyone feasts. While celebrations might be experienced all over Mexico , the state of Oaxaca – known for its strong Indigenous culture, unique cuisine and flourishing arts and crafts – is an excellent choice. Oaxaca City is a riot of artisan workshops, baroque plazas, and busy markets (where you can buy sugar skulls and pan de muerto, bread of the dead); the Museum of Oaxacan Cultures is also worth a look. Then explore further afield: visit the weaving town of Teotitlán , the historic Tlacolula market and Soledad Etla’s flamboyant Comparsa Parade. By night, head to the region’s many cemeteries for the festivities.

Valletta, Malta

Why now? Combine city sites with late Med sun.

Little Malta is a big draw this month. The mild, Mediterranean climate means it stays almost summery through November, with temperatures around 21°C (70°F) and the sea still warm enough for a dip. Even if not, there’s plenty of interest away from the beach. Valletta , the harbor-hugging capital, makes for a super off-season city break. European Capital of Culture in 2018, and Unesco-listed in its entirety, it was founded by the Knights of Malta in the 16th century – and hasn’t changed a lot since. Wander its maze of medieval alleyways and piazzas, nose into the baroque palaces and fine churches, trace the well-preserved fortifications and dip into the National Museum of Archaeology and modern MUŻA art museum . To appreciate Valletta from water level, sail across the Grand Harbor in a traditional dghajsa (open boat). Then disembark at Vittoriosa , one of the three cities facing Valletta, and get lost in its sinuous backstreets.

Why now? Mild weather for pub crawling, Spanish style.

Let’s all raise a glass to November in southern Andalucía . While most of Europe begins to chill, it’s still t-shirt weather here (expect highs of 20°C/68°F), perfect for sightseeing without the crowds...and for enjoying a tipple or two. The top choice hereabouts is sherry, particularly in and around the fine city of Jeréz de la Frontera . Many historic bodegas – such as vast González-Byass and the cathedral-like cellars of Bodegas Lustau – offer tours and tastings, while characterful drinking holes pack the old center, serving dry and smoky-sweet sherries accompanied by authentic flamenco (the passionate music is said to originate here). Combine Jeréz with Seville , also jam-packed with tapas bars as well as world-class sights: visit the magnificent Mudéjar-style Real Alcázar palace, enter the world’s largest Gothic cathedral , stroll along the Guadalquivir River and wander the atmospheric Triana district , home of flamenco, bullfighting and exquisite ceramic tiles.

Seoul, South Korea

Why now? For bright lights and communal cookery.

November is peak leaf-peeping time in South Korea , when the country’s trees reach full flaming glory and provide a beautiful natural backdrop to even Seoul ’s high-tech-ery. Take a walk along the city’s Cheong-gye-cheon Stream at this time and you’ll find it bright with both autumn color and the illuminations of the Seoul Lantern Festival.

But maybe even more important than autumn, it’s kimjang season, when friends and family gather to make massive batches of kimchi to last through the winter. Seoul holds a Kimchi Festival (usually the first week of November); you might get to make the famed fermented cabbage with hundreds of locals. Still peckish? Go to Gwangjang Market, a great place to try Korean street food such as mayak gimbap (rice rolls), sundae (blood sausage) and bindaetteok (mung-bean pancakes). Then graze the stalls of Namdaemun Market , which dates to the 15th century, and visit Noryangjin Fish Market to sample fresh seafood 24/7.

Death Valley, USA

Why now? Hot(ish) riding.

It’s not unknown for the mercury to top 50°C (122°F) in Death Valley during July. That is emphatically not the time to visit. Better to wait until November, when the average high in this lowest, hottest, driest of national parks is a pleasant 25°C (77°F), all the campgrounds are open (camping season runs mid-October to April) and it’s quieter than spring. Indeed, these conditions are ideal for cycling.

While winter grips many a road across the country, Death Valley’s tarmac and dirt track (of which there is over 1200km/745 miles) is free of both ice and traffic lights, offering a great way of getting in amid the peaks, escarpments, dunes, faults, salt flats and weird rock formations. Top rides include the descent from Daylight Pass into the valley, the fat push from broiling Furnace Creek to Stovepipe Wells, and the climb to Dante’s View for a panorama over the Black Mountains and Badwater Basin . Or plot a 400km(240-mile)-plus through-ride from Las Vegas to Lone Pine via Death Valley.

Lanzarote, Spain

Why now? To master warm winter waves.

The northernmost, easternmost Canary Island laughs at the idea of hibernating for winter. With November temperatures still reaching 23°C (73.4°F) on land and 22°C (71.6°F) in the ocean, Lanzarote continues to be brilliant for water-based fun. Sailors, surfers, kite surfers and kayakers can keep practicing all year long; it’s a good place to learn new skills, too, as conditions are reliable and many operators offer lessons.

The cooler months (November to March) are especially good for surfing – pros can tackle the legendary left-hand reef break of El Quemao while beginners should head to the beach breaks and surf schools of La Caleta de Famara and Orzola. Lanzarote also has many calm, sheltered lagoons, ideal for paddleboarding – Charco de San Gines in Arrecife , Playa Blanca and Playa Mujeres are all popular. No matter what you do, the island – a Unesco Geopark of volcanic cones, lava fields and lunar-like weirdness – provides a dramatic backdrop.

The month’s cooling temperatures are accompanied by time-honoured markers: misted breath mixing with bonfire smoke, feet scrunching through leaves in the park. But while Britain is reaching for its scarves, other places are basking, so why not travel into the light? Travel is so often about embracing the best of both worlds – so cosy up at home and embrace the cold weather, before trying out a sunshine lifestyle in California or Australia or go tropical, from the Indian Ocean to the Arabian Sea. There are even places in Europe that still have some residual summer warmth – think Lanzarote, Crete or Seville – or travel further afield for the sugary white sands of the Seychelles or the lush green trees of Goa. 1. Singapore

This tropical island is one of our favourite places to visit when the temperature starts dropping at home. Singapore is always humming with activity; the country is home to some of the world's top hotels (including the recently opened Grand Hyatt and Raffles), has plenty of epic places to feast on local delicacies, and also happens to be one of Asia's greenest cities. It's a glamorous escape where the November temperature sits comfortably around 30°C – the perfect spot for some pre-winter sunshine.

Where to stay: The Singapore Edition is the definition of contemporary cool. Book for a slick, sophisticated stay in the middle of Singapore's buzzy shopping and restaurant neighbourhood. This quiet archipelago sits just off the north coast of Africa – a dreamy spot to catch the last of Europe's warmer weather before the cold kicks in. In November, Madeira is relatively warm (with rainy spells), but this renders it the perfect time for exploring the islands. Spend days going on long hikes across the verdant hills and rocky landscapes, or sipping sweet wine with epic cliffside vistas.

4. Lanzarote

Dubbed the ‘islands of eternal spring’, the Canaries offer a year-round subtropical climate, making them all great options for November. However, as the closest to the Sahara Desert, Lanzarote is the place to find the hottest, driest stay in this archipelago. Known for its volcanoes, Lanzarote’s red rocky scenery is the backdrop to the golden sand and turquoise waters of its beaches , forming a natural landscape like no other. The season’s milder temperatures combined with Lanzarote’s minimal rainfall make November the ideal time to explore all the offerings of this colourful island .

Admittedly, Crete’s not a secret, but you needn’t travel far from the well-worn track to find unspoiled villages with locals happy to invite you to the party (an evening in a taverna always feels like one). By day, hike the monumental Samaria Gorge, where soaring cliffs shade a rugged, chamomile-scented trail. Or find Elafonisi, the pristine pink beach.

6. Seville, Spain

An easy city destination rich in sunshine, shady courtyards and napkin-strewn tapas bars, Sevirlle has the ability to transport visitors to an instant summer. For old-world kicks, explore the Alcázar, the opulent Mudéjar palace, or flag down a horse-drawn carriage outside the Gothic cathedral. Cyprus is so far south into the Mediterranean it feels more Middle Eastern than its EU membership might suggest – and the same goes for its climate. And so, with the sun still warming sand and sea at this time of year, it’s tempting to flop onto a Paphos beach and be done with it. 8. Seychelles

When we say this is ‘the most beautiful archipelago in the Indian Ocean’, we don’t say it lightly – the Seychelles is desert-island gorgeous. But these islands are not flat, or two-tone – they’re perfection, but they’re wild. Alongside the brilliant white beaches and neon-blue waters, great black-granite outcrops rise against pounding surf, fringed by Coco de Mer palms. The private islands are immaculate Edens sought by oligarchs and royals. North Island : hand-picked for the honeymoon of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; Six Senses Zil Pasyon , spread over Félicité, a jungly stunner with 30 immense villas, all hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings and deep, ocean-facing tubs. Australia rarely seems a particularly harried sort of place, but its SA region is downright horizontal. For this is the land of wide-open cellar doors (Barossa and Clare Valleys, Coonawarra, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills), Limestone Coast beaches (Glen Point is dazzling) and houseboat cruises meandering along the Murray River. Bordering California has seldom done this northern Mexican state many favours, high-schoolers piling into Tijuana for tequila binges being the least of its problems (Mexico’s legal drinking age is 18 to the USA’s 21). But more refined imbibers are now discovering something beyond the bar strip: Valle de Guadeloupe, aka Mexico’s Napa Valley, has lately sharpened its focus on organic and biodynamic bottles. Finca La Carrodilla serves its crisp Chenin Blanc in a pretty rooftop garden; Finca Altozano, one of the valley’s favourite open-air, farm-to-table restaurants, now features funky flourishes such as an Airstream serving tortas. Its sister B&B, Finca La Divina, is a perfect hybrid, with Mexican-colonial architecture and California-cool interior design. Need a beach break? Cabo San Lucas is just a hop, skip and a two-hour flight away.

12. Goa, India

Think Goa and you might conjure an unholy trinity of tie-dye, trance and tokers’ fug. But southern India’s beachy bohemia has always had a split personality, known for all-night raves in the north and chilled sunset vibes in the south. Today, there are more Goas still. Inland, you’ll find the relics of Portuguese rule in cool, white-painted churches and colonial villas turned into boutique retreats, tucked between palms. There are rickety beach bungalows and sizzling street stalls, but also five-star resorts and Champagne by the pool. What the Goas all have in common: an escape from everyday shackles, a go-slow refuge of endless sands and churning surf. But the recent foray of top-tier brands into its untapped coastal beauty is forging something harder to find in its neighbour, Thailand: proper, unplugged peace.

Where to stay: Six Senses Krabey Island is a jungly outcrop scattered with pool villas; Alila’s Koh Russey retreat angles the gaze of Khmer-style pavilions over still emerald waters toward uncharted hills. Over on the mainland, coastal Kep’s barefoot resort, Knai Bang Chatt , serves blue swimmer crabs to tables arranged on a jetty over the sea. And the sunsets are glorious: an unpolluted horizon silhouetted with fishing boats, blushing gold-pink.

14. Botswana

Feeling too hot hot hot? Sure, 35℃ is scorching. But Botswana is known for its dry heat: manageable, not muggy. Better yet, the rates for what is increasingly gaining a rep as Africa’s finest safari destination are rather favourable this time of year. Plus, lower visitor numbers help you explore the Okavango Delta in relative isolation, while the game-viewing is exceptional as animals begin birthing their young. Explore the wetland wilderness by dugout canoe and see swimming lions pursue scrambling buffalo; hippos and elephants cooling off in crystal-clear shallows. Of course, luxury camps are not hard to come by. A quick Google search for the best time to visit Bangkok turns up a clear answer; late November through to early December is ideal. The city has seen the back of monsoon season, and temperatures are comfortably toasty without being scorching. Explore the Thai capital's epic food scene, from hole-in-the-wall street food to Michelin-starred fine-dining such as 80/20 or southern Thai hotspot Sorn. Spend days exploring flower markets such as Pak Klong Talad or the weekend-only Chatuchak market. Top tip: if you're planning to combine a visit to Bangkok with some Thai island hopping, time your holiday at the end of the month – December to March is the best time for a slice of island living here.

16. Barbados

November is shoulder season in Barbados, which means a holiday to this Caribbean island this month will come at a much lower price tag. Temperatures are still balmy, and rainfall is comparatively low during November (it's worth noting that officially November is still hurricane season, although the chance of storms in November is far lower than the preceding months). Barbados is just 21 miles from top to bottom, but there's a buzz here that you might not expect thanks to its diminutive size. The capital city, Bridgetown, is UNESCO-listed, and you'll find some of the most beautiful beaches in the world along the shores, too.

The penultimate month of the year is a wonderful time to take in the famous sights of Europe without the crowds, experience spring in the Southern Hemisphere, swim in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, or witness the majestic fall foliage in Japan.

From Mallorca to Mauritius, these are the best places to visit this November:

New York City, USA

If you have an opportunity to visit New York City in November, by all means, do so. From the world’s largest marathon to the legendary Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony, this transitional month is packed with amazing events. Central Park glows in beautiful fall colors, the theater season is in full swing on and off Broadway, and the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade takes over Manhattan.

By the end of November, it begins to look a lot like Christmas in New York. Days are getting shorter and chillier, Midtown’s department stores unveil their fabulous holiday window displays, and ice rinks and festive markets start to pop up all over the city.

If you can, extend your trip to experience New York in December , as that, my friends, is the stuff of cinematic legend.

Bangkok, Thailand

There’s no better time to visit Bangkok than in November when the city is drying out from the rainy season, temperatures are cool enough (around mid-20s Celsius) to allow comfortable sightseeing, and the holiday crowds have yet to arrive.

A dizzying, delirious spectacle, the Thai capital rewards urban explorers of all kinds with its amazing foodscape, vibrant street life, and growing art scene, with serene Buddhist temples, sumptuous royal palaces, and wonderfully chaotic floating markets.

November is also the month when the city celebrates Loi Krathong, one of Thailand’s most popular festivals , when locals gather around lakes, rivers, and canals to release beautifully decorated floating vessels in a sumptuous ceremony meant to worship the goddess of the river, Pra Mae Khongkha, and to wash away misfortune.

With sapphire waters, powder-white beaches, and warm, sunny weather all year round, it’s hard to find a bad time to visit Mauritius.

Located about 2,400 km east of mainland Africa, this remote, multicultural paradise is one of the most spectacular islands in the Indian Ocean – an adventurer’s playground with world-class diving and snorkeling, excellent golf courses, delicious fusion cuisine, and wonderful wildlife-watching opportunities.

Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital has a stylish European flair streaming from its handsome Belle Époque architecture, elegant avenues, and atmospheric cobblestone alleys filled with pretty cafés and boutiques. The booming art scene, vibrant nightlife, and wonderful gastronomy all contribute to the city’s undisputed charm, and so do its two great passions – football and tango. If you can, try to catch a match between local rival teams, River Plate and Boca, or put on your dancing shoes and head to a milonga for free tango lessons.

November is also the month when BA celebrates the International Jazz Festival, the Argentine Open Polo Tournament, the Gay Pride Parade, and Creamfields Buenos Aires.

Istanbul, Turkey

Grandiose mosques, medieval towers, and ultra-modern skyscrapers dominate its skyline. Underneath, steamy hammams, exotic teahouses, and buzzing bazaars fuse with high-end shopping venues, hip restaurants, and contemporary art galleries in a sophisticated mix of old and new. And there it is, the mighty strait of Bosphorus determined to tear them apart forever. This is Istanbul, one of the world’s greatest and most dramatic cities, and the place where, beyond any cliché, East really meets West.

Piedmont, Italy

Alba’s revered White Truffle Festival is reason enough to visit Piedmont in November, but the charms of Italy’s second-largest region in autumn go far beyond these prized culinary delicacies.

There are award-winning wines (Barolo and Barbaresco) and postcard-perfect autumnal landscapes in the hills of Langhe, wonderfully preserved medieval fortifications in Candelo, curative thermal waters in the spa town of Acqui Terme, and marvelously authentic food in Bra – the birthplace and headquarters of the Slow Food movement.

Turin, the elegant, Alps-fringed capital of Piedmont, is an architectural feast of Baroque palaces, porticoed piazzas, and tree-lined Parisian boulevards, with a progressive cultural scene and some of the finest cooking in Italy.

The 94th edition of the International Alba White Truffle Fair runs from 12th October to 8th December 2024, and the entire region will be alive with twinkling Christmas markets and delicious slow-food fairs celebrating everything from wine and cheese to chestnuts and chocolate.

Mexico is a country with many different landscapes and microclimates, and the best time to visit depends mainly on the region and the type of travel experience you’re seeking. November, however, is an ideal month to visit whatever the destination. Not only is the weather pleasant, but there are fewer tourists, lower fares, and a plethora of cultural attractions.

Hurricane season is over in the Yucatan, giving way to brighter, sunnier days spent lounging on less-crowded beaches and swimming in the warm sea. In Baja, too, the nights are getting cooler, but there is still wonderful swimming weather during the daytime.

If you are more inclined towards culture and heritage, Day of the Dead celebrations await in Oaxaca and Mexico City from October 31 to November 2. Also, the charming colonial town of San Miguel de Allende comes alive with music, art, and colorful traditions during the annual Calaca Festival. Otherwise, head to Leon, Guanajuato for the biggest hot air balloon festival in Latin America.

Kyoto, Japan

Every year, during the sakura season, people from all over come in droves to marvel at the spectacular cherry blossoms in Kyoto, but the city’s fall foliage is just as sublime.

Come November, Japan’s old capital, as magical as it already is, turns into a mysterious land of ornate temples and zen-inducing gardens – all draped in fiery maple trees. The landscape is carpeted in a blaze of autumnal colors, complemented by mild temperatures and sunny blue skies.

In addition, temples and shrines around the city hold seasonal illumination events at night, making the experience even more mesmerizing. Among them are Kodaiji Temple, which also offers a unique projection mapping show, and Kiyomizudera, famous for its wooden veranda overlooking Kyoto rising out from a sea of red and orange trees.

If you prefer icy glaciers over sunny beaches and licorice over pumpkin spice lattes, then a trip to Iceland in November might be the change of scenery you need.

Mallorca in November is for foodies, culture lovers, and nature enthusiasts.

With the summer crowds gone and the pace slowing down, late autumn visitors have a unique opportunity to discover a calmer, more authentic side of Spain’s largest Balearic island. The average temperature is around 15°C, but neither snowy mountains nor warm sunny beaches are unusual sights during this time of year.

November’s changing colors, along with a plethora of local fairs, make the countryside a joy to explore. The Dijous Bo in Inca is the island’s largest agricultural fair and includes everything from live music and art exhibitions to an annual Mallorcan black pig contest and auction.

Mushrooms take center stage at the annual Fira de l’esclata-sang i de la Muntanya in Mancor de la Vall, and the new wine is properly celebrated with wine tastings, winery tours, and lots of tapas at Santa María del Camí’s Festa del Vi Novell . The South of Spain is great in November. The weather is generally sunny and pleasant, which makes it perfect for visiting Andalusia’s picturesque countryside with its whitewashed villages. November also marks the start of the olive harvest season in Spain, and many towns hold olive oil festivals. Malaga and Seville are also wonderful during this time of year, and so is Marbella – think fewer tourists, smaller prices, and lots of sunny days.

As it gets colder and darker in the northern hemisphere, we all dream of jetting off somewhere exotic, or just different. Despite this, November is considered a low season for travel across many parts of the world, which is why it’s the perfect time to get away.

The best places for culture and heritage…

1. chiang mai, thailand.

Celebrated across Thailand (but particularly stunning in Chiang Mai), Loi Krathong is one of Thailand’s most beautiful celebrations. Pronounced loy kra -tong, Loi translates to ‘float’ while a krathong is a kind of basket woven from banana leaves, traditionally decorated with flowers, incense and candles.

On the full moon in November, k rathongs are floated on rivers and canals as offerin gs to Pra Mae Khongkha , a Goddess in Southeast Asian Buddhist mythology closely associated with water. The offerings represent a request for forgiveness for using the region’s rivers and deltas. Historically, Thailand is an agricultural society and has relied heavily on its waterways.

If you float a krathong this November, make sure that it is made from banana leaf or, as is increasingly common, bread, rather than polystyrene. Thai authorities have pulled tens of thousands of non-biodegradable krathongs from the water in recent years. There’s no point in apologising for using rivers by polluting them.

2. Riga, Latvia

Head to this Baltic beauty for another illuminated celebration. November 18 th marks Latvia’s Independence Day. Observed as Proclamation Day, the 18 th is a national holiday in Latvia, celebrated with concerts, exhibitions, a military parade and a torchlit march through the streets.

The Riga parade is a touching display of solidarity and brings Latvians together across the country. The night ends with fireworks and gatherings in public squares. If you’re willing to brave the cold, November is a great time to visit Riga as there is plenty to do.

3. Varanasi, India

Fifteen days after Diwali, on the full moon of Kartika, residents of Varanasi celebrate Dev Deepawali, the ‘Diwali of the Gods’. During this festival, millions of d iyas (oil lamps) are placed on the steps of the ghats and floated on the Ganges to honour the river and its Gods.

It’s said that on this night, the Gods descend to Earth and bathe in the Ganges. The banks of the rivers glow like embers and the bustling city takes on an otherworldly atmosphere.

4. Michoacan, Mexico

No doubt you’ve heard of Day of the Dead , but if you’re yet to experience it in all its macabre glory, head down to Michoacan to join in the festivities. The Day of the Dead ( Dia De Muertos ) is a UNESCO-honoured Mexican holiday in which people honour the dead by building altars, dressing up and visiting graves. The iconography of the festival has gained international recognition, known for its elaborate costumes and painted sugar skulls.

Dia De Muertos is a celebration and it is treated exactly as that. Death is viewed positively in M exico as a natural part of the lifecycle. On this night, the dead are said to return to life to celebrate with loved ones.

While Mexico’s major urban centres see massive parades and festivities, it’s best to celebrate Dia De Muertos in the south of the country as it has longer roots down there. Scholars speculate that the festival is an amalgam of an Aztec celebration with All Saints’ Day. It was not observed in the north of the country until the 20 th century, and so has a richer history in southern regions like Michoacan . Coincide the festival (November 2 nd ) with a trip to the beautiful coloniall city of Morelia.

Home to the world-famous Christmas markets, Germany’s festive celebrations usually kick off from mid-November. We can’t promise it will be quiet, but there will certainly be less crowds the further away from Christmas you visit.

Cologne has one of the most beautiful backdrops for its largest market, Weihnachtsmarkt Am Kölner Dom. Its wooden pavilions are set up in the town square beneath the illuminated cathedral, which is free to enter during its opening hours. If you’d like to climb up to the top of its tower, you’ll need to pay a small fee.

Head to Dresden for what is considered the oldest Christmas market in Germany, Dresden Striezelmarkt. Its traditional handcrafted nutcrackers are one of the most popular stall items to purchase.

And of course, the German capital also puts on some of the most exciting Christmas markets in the country. Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt has stalls with crafted wooden gifts, and is also a popular space for entertainers, from fire-eaters to jugglers. To warm up post-market, there’s countless cosy pubs and bars to roll into and pick up a mulled wine.

6. valdes peninsula, argentina.

When it comes to marine life, Argentina’s Valdes Peninsula in November is the Piccadilly Circus of the southern seas. This region is home to a variety of birds, penguins, sea lions, seals, whales, orcas and dolphins. While some species may gather in greater numbers in other months, November gives you the best chance of seeing them all. Don’t you just love it when things come together?

The peninsula boasts 250 miles of UNESCO-protected coastline bustling with marine life. You’ll find lagoons full of lounging fur seals, bays with orcas close enough to photograph and rookeries invaded by penguin colonies. It’s spring in Patagonia and while it won’t be too warm, it’s a lovely time of year to visit southern Argentina.

7. Chobe, Botswana

November is green season in Chobe. Yes, that can mean a little rain, but that’s a blessing, not a curse. While C hobe is famous for its elephant population and herds of buffalo watering on the riverfront during the dry season, avoiding the green season would be a mistake.

As well as lower fares, the green season offers an excellent chance to see large groups of zebra as they start to migrate. It’s also birthing season, so be prepared to see a lot of impala lambs and as a result, their predators.

November in Chobe is the best time, however, for birds. Migratory birds arrive in Chobe in enormous numbers at this time of year. In addition, water-birds including herons and gulls can be found nesting on the riverbanks.

8. tikal, guatemala.

In November, cool winds sweep over Guatemala’s highlands, blowing away the clouds from the rainy season. That’s why the locals fly kites in central Guatemala on All Saints’ Day.

You can’t totally discount the possibility of rain, but then a third of the country is rainforest, so what do you expect? The temperature is very reasonable in November, with cool nights in the highlands so no rolling around in stifling heat. Most importantly, the winter rush has not begun. Because of its temperate climate and close proximity to North America, Guatemala can receive a lot of visitors during the winter break.

Head to the incredible Mayan ruin of Tikal in the north of the country. This ancient citadel was once inhabited by Mesoamerica’s most advanced civilisation, but now, as the forest encroaches, it’s home to the humble spider monkey. The ruins at Tikal are a fantastic place to see this cheeky primate, although, a heads up – they’ve been known to def e cate on visitors.

9. south georgia and the south sandwich islands.

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are a series of overseas UK territories in the Southern Atlantic Ocean. They’re incredibly remote and only accessible by boat; the nearest airport is on the Falkland Islands. Known as the ‘Serengeti of the Southern Ocean’ the islands offer the highest concentration of Antarctic wildlife in the world. The islands house large king penguin populations, fur seals, whales, dolphins and are an occasional home to the wandering al batross.

Visit in November because you can – cruises to the island resume in October after the harsh winter. The voyage takes between 2 and 3 days and as a result, South Georgia is one of the least visited places on the planet. Fewer than 10,000 people visit every year.

During the summer Florida is abuzz with tourists. But there’s plenty of other lesser-known regions of the Sunshine State to visit, and in November, it’s still warm enough for sunbathers.

Martin County is one of Florida’s secret spots, home to gorgeous white sand beaches, unique historic sites, and the northern hemisphere’s most biodiverse lagoon ecosystem, t he St. Lucie Inlet.

For observing the best of Florida’s wildlife, head to the Everglades National Park, either as a day trip from Miami or to stay longer. The weather at this time of year is ideal for exploring the park’s wondrous mangroves and wetlands, either on foot or by kayak. You’ll also likely spot a manatee, as they start migrating to the Everglades warm waters during November.

11. Mainland Greece

For a mild European city break in November, Athens is an excellent bet. With an average daytime temperature of 15°C, November is a perfect month for strol ling around the city without the blaze of a scorching sun, taking in the Acropolis and the Parthenon without the crowds, and hopping in and out of Athens’ various museums, galleries, bars and restaurants.

Be sure to visit the National Archaeological Museum, home to some of the most important findings from the pre historical era, and considered one of the best museums in the world.

Alternatively, a trip to Greece’s second city of Thessaloniki opens up another portal into Greek culture. It might be slightly cooler here (a coat will be required), but history buffs can enjoy a range of indoor activities. The archaeological museum is one of the largest museums in Greece with an impressive collection of ancient artefacts, while the Museum of Byzantine Culture takes visitors back to the Byzantine period.

12. Uruguay

For something a little different this November, catch a wave in Uruguay. Chances are, you’ll get them pretty much to yourself. doesn’t receive as much attention as its neighbours, despite having the highest GDP on the continent, beautiful colonial towns and stunning national parks. It’s even lesser known for its surf.

Monte video , the cosmopolitan capital, is home to a Spanish citadel as well as Art Deco architecture. While it’s a fantastic city to visit, few travellers explore more of the country. Uruguay’s south coast is dotted with coastal towns offering great access to brilliant surfing beaches.

Corumba, La Paloma and Punto Del Diablo are two small towns known for excellent surf. Head there in November for mild weather and perfect swells.

As always, check up-to-date weather and safety information with local authorities before surfing. Weather can be unpredictable in this part of the world.

13. Andalusia, Spain

Andalucia is famous for its mild winters, although potentially a little rain. Only a two hour flight from the UK, Seville makes for a perfect winter break. Leave your wooly coat at home and stroll along the Guadilquivir, sip wine in a rooftop bar and dive into one of the city’s many taperias. Try carrilladas , a traditional Spanish dish – pork cheeks braised in wine. A truly comforting dish in colder weather.

But Seville is not the only gem in Andalusia. Córdoba is home to not one, but three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Mosque of Cordoba, the Medina Azahara, and the Historic Centre. The latter is where you can find traditional tapas bars that serve salmorejo – made from tomato, bread, oil and garlic.

Alternatively, you can head to the coast for Málaga . Beyond its reputation for good night life, the city has gained the attention of art lovers, with two museums dedicated to Málaga-born artists Pablo Picasso, a contemporary art centre, and the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, a gallery displaying work from her personal collection.

One of the most mysterious and hard to reach countries in the world, Bhutan should be on every travellers list. Nestled in the Himalayan foothills, this spiritual, sub-alpine nation is a real life Shangri-La. Bhutan spans large subtropical plains in the south to mountainous Himalayan regions in the north and is home to the world’s highest unclimbed mountain, Gangkhar Puensum, at 7,500 metres.

Similarly, the rest of the country has been relatively unspoiled by industrialisation, globalisation and westernisation. It is the planet’s only carbon deficit country, meaning that it absorbs more carbon than it produces. This is partly due to a rich tree planting tradition that the Bhutanese observe, keeping the country green and luscious. Trekkers can explore its natural delights and exquisite monasteries along the Trans Bhutan Trail.

Keep in mind, Bhutan has not simply missed Westernisation, but actively avoided it. As such, visiting the country is not easy. Bhutan has only one small airport, and only a handful of pilots are qualified to fly in and out of it. There are no intercontinental flights to or from Bhutan, so you must find a connecting flight within Asia. Then there’s the fee. From September 2022, Bhutan has increased their SDP to $200 per day. This once including an all-inclusive package, now, visitors will have to pay for food, accommodation and transport on top of the cost, making Bhutan an expensive country to travel in.

November is an excellent time to visit as the rainy season has just ended. A lack of precipitation is particularly important in Bhutan’s regions as clear skies make for incredible views.

15. kerala, india.

Head to India’s tropical Malabar coast this autumn. November is an excellent time to explore Kerala’s palm edged beaches and mangrove lined backwaters. Monsoon season has just ended, giving way to relatively dry conditions, reduced humidity and an average temperature of 28° C.

November also marks the very start of Kerala’s high season and, while things can get very busy around Christmas, visiting in November should allow you to avoid the worst of the crowds.

Hide from other visitors in a wayanad (treehouse) or leave them on the shore as you drift through the backwaters on a shikara (houseboat).

There’s no getting around it, Oman is hot – hence the old joke ‘Oh man it’s hot.’ So best to visit in a cooler month like November. Expect highs of 31°C and nighttime lows of 21°C. For a longer trip, November is a good choice as the weather will remain cool throughout the country.

Spring is an excellent time to visit New Zealand. While things are getting cold in the northern hemisphere, head down under where everything is in bloom. The climate is lovely in November, with an average temperature of around 18°C.

Naturalists should visit Pukekura Park in the Taranaki region, famed for its rhododendrons (as well as classic cone volcano, reminiscent of Mount Fuji). More adventurous travellers can take advantage of the melting mountain snow which makes for perfect white water rafting conditions.

Of course, the country attracts keen hikers from around the world. Make sure to book onto one of the country’s Great Walks before you go. The famous Milford Track usually sells out early, but there are plenty of lesser-known alternatives, such as the Rakiura Track and Heaphy Track, both rooted within M ā ori culture.

Our Good Housekeeping staffers have been exploring resorts, destinations, and attractions for Good Housekeeping's 2025 Family Travel Awards both here in the USA and abroad. Our travel team passed along their fall faves, and then we tossed in suggestions from travel experts to create this list of 20 vacation spots for November.

They've come up with something for everyone, including a wellness-inspired retreat, a scenic road trip for last-minute leaf-peeping, the perfect location for a Thanksgiving family gathering, a romantic long weekend spot or a place ideal for a warm-weather beach trip with the kids .

Scottsdale, Arizona

Temperatures are finally cooling down in Scottsdale, making November a fantastic time to visit this adventure-filled destination. Fall marks the return of sunset horseback rides at the 30,500-acre McDowell Sonoran Preserve , a protected desert habitat that is serious cacti goals.

Besides riding, the preserve rocks for its mountain biking and guided hiking. The Bajada Nature Trail is stroller- and wheelchair-friendly while the Gateway Loop Trail, a 4.4-mile loop, offers a moderately challenging experience for families with tweens. And perhaps coolest of all, hot air balloon rides allow families to see the desert from a different vantage point.

When your crew is ready for some water fun, hop from the city center to Saguaro Lake or the Lower Salt River, for kayaking, rafting and stand-up paddleboarding. Stay at The Scottsdale Resort at McCormick Ranch , which is just wrapping up a huge renovation.

Lānaʻi, Hawaii

Cleanse your mind and body before the holidays at the Sensei Lānaʻi, a Four Seasons Resort . This wellness-focused gem is holding its Hiking Retreat from November 7-12. Participants will traverse Lānaʻi’s lush landscapes led by a guide that will share the Hawaiian island’s history and culture.

That's in addition to hikes on your own plus participation in the resort's exceptional wellness program. Just picture yourself doing restorative aerial yoga, taking a sound bath and getting pampered in the spa. If you can't swing these dates, the resort's Palm Springs, California, location is hosting a hiking retreat in 2025.

Nashville, Tennessee

Can't score tickets to the Eras Tour this fall? Same. The next best thing: Take a Swift-cation in Nashville for the price the resellers are asking for a single seat! The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has a friendship bracelet installation, some of Swift's costumes on display, a replica Eras Tour bus plus the official Taylor Swift Education Center with programming for kids and families.

Swifties may want tickets to a show featuring up-and-coming artists at Bluebird Cafe, where Tay Tay performed when she was just 14 and made a surprise appearance at in 2018. Music fans should also check out the lineup at the Grand Ole Opry. "My Swiftie loved the show, which included several acts," said a Good Housekeeping editor.

For a budget-friendly place to stay near vinyl record shops, thrift stores and non-chain coffee spots (basically the Swiftie love language), zero in on the city's East Nashville neighborhood. Waymore's , a boutique hotel with a breakfast so good that it draws locals, offer a number of room configurations that work especially well for families traveling with teens or young adults. It even has bunk-bed rooms that sleep 4 and connect to a king room. After all, the more Swifties, the merrier!

The Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee

One of the last places for leaves to reach peak color, eastern Tennessee will be ablaze in yellow, orange and red in late October and early November. Who's ready for a road trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for some leaf-peeping?

This time of year, "the Abrams Fall Hike in Cades Cove will be a stunner," says Jeremy Puglisi, co-author of Where Should We Camp Next? National Parks. "The Alum Cave hike would also be better during fall foliage." Puglisi notes that the campground, Roamstead , is getting a lot of buzz. L ocated near Gatlinburg, Roamstead offers an array of lodging options, including cabins, yurts and RV sites — plus a heated saltwater pool!

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is also very close to Dollywood. The theme park's Dollywood HeartSong Lodge & Resort , which has Family Suites with bunk beds, recently opened. The family-friendly Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort is another place to stay in the area.

Turks & Caicos

Hello sunshine and Sesame Street! Beaches Turks & Caicos , where kids can hang with the Elmo, Cookie Monster and the rest of the gang, is the all-inclusive vacation dream for under 12-crowd (and their parents). Families can sign up for activities together (like the pictured yoga sess on the beach) or enroll their kids in the complimentary club, where they'll meet the characters, learn the "letter of the day," and chill on mini plush loungers at their own pool.

W hile they're having fun, you can plop on a plush lounger of your own at glorious Grace Bay beach, have a peaceful breakfast at one of the many restaurants or get a spa treatment. "We met so many repeat guests who said it was their best vacation experience with the kids," said a Good Housekeeping editor who visited recently.

It's your last chance to sample all the incredible eats and drinks at Epcot's International Food and Wine Festival , running from August 29 to November 23, 2024, at Walt Disney World.

"My favorite dish last year was the Spicy Githeri [an African meal with beans and quinoa] at the Refreshment Outpost ," says Len Testa, founder of TouringPlans.com . His other must-tries include Pickle Fries with Dill Ranch and Orange-Cardamom Wings. In between bites, head over to the newly-opened Journey of Water , Inspired by Moana.

For the easiest access to the park, consider staying at a hotel within walking distance . Seabrook, Washington

The number of families booking a vacation rental to celebrate Thanksgiving has been on the rise. After all, it's tempting to avoid the mess at your house! If you want to jump in on the trend, we found the perfect place: Seabrook, Washington .

This oceanfront coastal community about two and a half hours west of Seattle boasts more than 500 homes — many of them for rent. All of them are walkable to the beach, playground, shops, restaurants and — most important for any Thanksgiving gathering — the grocery store.

All built within the last 20 years (and many much newer), the rentals boast state-of-the-art kitchens and plenty of space for everyone to sleep. Some rentals can fit up to 20 people!

"The overall vibe is fantastic," says a Good Housekeeping staff member who recently visited. "Everyone knows Milwaukee for beer but every single cup of coffee I had there was fantastic. The food was really solid all around too." Visitors can dine at prominent spots like Sanford , a critically acclaimed restaurant that features a surprise tasting menu with seven courses.

Also check out ARIA , which is housed on the second floor of the cool and contemporary Saint-Kate: The Arts Hotel , for artisanal Midwest cuisine. Our staffer also stayed at the hotel, which has art exhibits on the first floor. She says, "There were crayons and rolls of butcher paper in our room for drawing, which I thought was a neat touch in an art-themed hotel."

London's Oxford Street (shown) is glimmering with lights and decorations in November. “ Thanksgiving in America is the perfect time to visit London," says Renee Olson, a Fora travel advisor. "Unlike Christmas, New Year's Eve or summer break, there's low competition so it feels like you have the place to yourself." Pack light because there are 96 stores on Oxford Street alone — and you'll want to treat yourself or pick up holiday gifts. Houston, Texas

With 150 museums and a burgeoning food scene, Houston is establishing itself as the place to go for a long weekend getaway. Seattle, Washington

Fall is in the air at Pike Place Market , a tourist and local favorite with 500+ businesses on the Seattle Waterfront. Pumpkin pie lattes, pear crème brûlée Danish and handcrafted pottery for the Thanksgiving table are among the fall market finds while year-round faves include the famous fish toss and the OG Starbucks location. (Yes, this is where Pike Place Coffee got its name.) For a special dinner, the market also boasts Aerlume , a design-forward, waterfront restaurant with a seasonally focused menu.

Stay at the Thompson Hotel Seattle , which is just a block or so from the market. As a guest, you'll receive priority access to the Nest, a rooftop bar that's extremely popular with locals for fab views and delish cocktails. The Thompson Hotel Seattle is also within walking distance of other iconic attractions, such as the Space Needle and Chihuly Gardens and Glass, plus it offers cookies at check-in.

Antigua and Barbuda

Discover what the West Indies has to offer with a visit to Antigua and Barbuda. Nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, these sister islands are known for their reef-lined beaches, rainforests and first-rate resorts. A Good Housekeeping staffer and her sister recently stayed at Carlisle Bay Antigua and opted for the all-inclusive plan, which includes meals and most activities. Although “ice” is literally in the name of this Nordic Island nation, it’s not as chilly as one might think. The average high in November is a surprising 40 degrees — that’s balmy if you’re comparing it to Midwest winters. So, remember to pack your bathing suits. In fact, swimming is one of the most popular things to do — even during the winter thanks to heated pools around the city .

Dubbed the Land of Fire and Ice, visitors can admire the beauty of frozen landscapes and of course, try to see the elusive, colorful Northern Lights. New York City

The week before Thanksgiving is the sweet spot to visit NYC for the holidays: You can shop at the seasonal markets and marvel over the department store windows when it's still fairly mild (averages are in the upper 50s) and far less crowded than later in the season.

Your must-dos include tickets to see one of the first Christmas Spectacular performances of the season; the Radio City Rockettes kick off on November 8. The Winter Village in Bryant Park typically opens in October.

Take in a Broadway show — Wicked will be a hot ticket with the movie version expected to be released around Thanksgiving. For adults, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club is an entertaining and immersive experience. Have a pre-show dinner at The Alderman —the vibe is fantastic and the food is some of the best in Times Square.

For more great food in the lively Seaport neighborhood — and a chance to buy gifts for your friends who love to cook — visit the Tin Building Food Hall by Jean-Georges. Pick up one of the best sammies of your life at the market or have a relaxing lunch at T.Brasserie — the burger is the bomb!

Let the good times roll on Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas . The fun cruise ship sails from roundtrip from NOLA to the Western Caribbean on week-long voyages starting in November. Fora Travel Advisor Gillian Spatz recommends staying a few extra nights in New Orleans before or after the cruise. "In November, holiday lights and decorations start popping up in the French Quarter and around town," she says. "Plus, November weather is perfect, usually ranging from the low 50s to low 70s. You can explore without breaking a sweat!" In New Orleans, stay at the historic Vovo St. James Hotel in the French Quarter, which has a dipping pool, courtyard and restaurants.

National Harbor, Maryland

November 15 marks the return of ICE! to Gaylord National Resort , located in National Harbor just outside of Washington, DC. This year's theme is A Charlie Brown Christmas and kids will lose their minds over the 20,000-square-foot frozen version!

They'll also love going down the two-story ice slides and traversing ice tunnels and arches (don't worry about the cold — everyone gets a parka when they enter!) . Aside from ICE!, National Harbor entertains families with a fun (and free!) holiday light show every half hour, starting at sunset, plus fireworks every Saturday at 5:30pm; both run from November 11 to December 30.

The destination is also packed with stores (including outlets) for holiday shopping, restaurants, and a giant wheel that the kids will want to take a spin on. One 6-year-old tester who recently visited told us, "This was the best day of my life!"

Charleston, South Carolina

November is a wonderful time to stroll around Charleston — and there are plenty of special events to enjoy.

The Preservation Society of Charleston holds its annual garden and home tours from October 9 to November 2. A citywide literacy festival takes place from November 1 to 10 at various spots around the city. And the famed Farmers' Market runs on Saturdays in November. Highly recommended indoor options include the South Carolina Aquarium and the new International African American Museum .

The historic HarbourView Inn , an indigo cotton warehouse turned boutique hotel, is a fantastic place to stay, especially for couples. They have the only private rooftop in town with 360-degree city views of Charleston’s famed steeple-lined skyline and historic harbor. It's where the hotel hosts a complimentary wine and cheese hour every afternoon, featuring local Southern favorites.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Skiing season kicks off in Jackson Hole in November. After an above-average 2023-24 season that brought about 360 inches of snow, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort re-opens for its 59th season on November 29. Earlier this year, Good Housekeeping named it one of the 10 Best Ski Resorts in the U.S. and Canada .

No matter when you're planning your trip, you should book early. A Good Housekeeping staff member recently stayed at The Virginian Lodge . "The hotel is actually an old motel that was recently renovated, so everything felt fresh and new," she says. "The decor felt very 'lodge meets mid-century modern.'"

For skiers, the hotel boasts a center for gear rental, a shuttle to the slopes and fire pits and hot tubs for your apres-ski enjoyment.

Barcelona, Spain

You'll fall in love with Barcelona in November. Bring a light jacket as you explore the splendid Park Güell and its gingerbread-like house, tapas restaurants, food markets, Picasso museum and other can't-miss sites. "Barcelona's Mediterranean climate makes it perfect for a day on a boat or wine tasting in the nearby Alella, with long tapas dinners outside," says Renee Olson, a Fora Travel Advisor. She adds that Christmas Markets in most European cities are up by mid-November. The Hyatt boasts two fantastic places to stay in the city — the new Grand Hyatt Barcelona in the heart of downtown and the Hyatt Regency Barcelona Tower , which is ideal for families who need more space.
