Ari Lennox announces 2023 tour

Age/Sex/Location Tour kicks off Jan 26th

Following the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album, Age/Sex/Location , Grammy nominated, and Platinum recording artist Ari Lennox announces her Age/Sex/Location Tour 2023. Produced by Live Nation, the 27-city tour kicks off on January 26th at House of Blues in Las Vegas making stops across the US in Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta and more before wrapping up in her hometown at Howard Theatre in Washington, DC on March 28th.

Presales are underway with the general on sale starting Friday, November 18th at 10 am local via Ticketmaster .

The heiress to the raw and real giants of soul music, Ari Lennox is here to stay. The DC-born singer-songwriter catapulted to success in 2019 through her debut album, Shea Butter Baby . The project, now with over 1.3 billion global streams, spawned major hits, including the RIAA Platinum-certified title track, featuring Dreamville label head and marquee artist, J. Cole, the fan-favorite, gold-certified singles “BMO” and “Whipped Cream,” and “Up Late.” The album also reached certified gold status with the RIAA. Awards recognition capped off the debut era, with nominations at the Grammys for her contribution on Dreamville’s album, Revenge of the Dreamers III,  three 2019 Soul Train Awards, and two 2020 NAACP Awards.

In 2021, she introduced her second chapter with the R&B throwback, “Pressure,” produced by legendary hitmakers Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox and Johnta Austin. It generated the best results of Lennox’s career yet, becoming her first solo Billboard Hot 100 hit and dominating radio airwaves – flying to No. 1 on the magazine’s Adult R&B Airplay chart and No. 2 overall at R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay – all while racking up over 128 million global streams.

Following the torrid release of her RIAA-certified gold record “Pressure,” Lennox released her slow-burning single “Hoodie,” alongside Isaiah Rashad — who made a cameo in the latest video release. “Hoodie” along with “POF” received visual treatments and reside on her critically-acclaimed sophomore album Age/Sex/Location . The album has entered the best album of 2022 conversation, courtesy of Lennox’s brilliance and unbridled passion to bring soul back into the forefront of music.

The heiress to the raw and real giants of soul music, Ari Lennox is here to stay. The D.C.-born singer-songwriter catapulted to success in 2019 through her debut album, Shea Butter Baby. The project, now with over 1.3 billion global streams, spawned major hits: the RIAA platinum-certified title track, featuring Dreamville label head and marquee artist, J. Cole, the fan-favorite, gold-certified singles “BMO" and "Whipped Cream," and "Up Late," whose intimate video drew praise from ESSENCE, Noisey, Pitchfork, and Billboard. The album also reached certified gold status with the RIAA. Awards recognition capped off the debut era, with nominations at the Grammys (for her contribution on Dreamville's album, Revenge of the Dreamers III) three 2019 Soul Train Awards, and two 2020 NAACP Awards.

In 2021, she introduced her second chapter with the R&B throwback, "Pressure," produced by legendary hitmakers Jermaine Dupri, Bryan Michael Cox and Johnta Austin. It generated the best results of Ari’s career yet, becoming her first solo Billboard Hot 100 hit and dominating radio airwaves – flying to No. 1 on the magazine’s Adult R&B Airplay chart and No. 2 overall at R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay – all while racking up over 128 million global streams. Following the torrid release of her RIAA-certified gold record “Pressure,” Ari released her slow-burning single “Hoodie,” alongside Isaiah Rashad — who made a cameo in the latest video release. "Hoodie" along with "POF" received visual treatments and reside on her critically-acclaimed sophomore album age/sex/location. Lauded by Rolling Stone as an "R&B gem" and by Pitchfork as "her sexiest and most assured music to date," age/sex/location has entered the best album of 2022 conversation, courtesy of Ari's brilliance and unbridled passion to bring Soul back into the forefront of music. Live appearances have only accelerated her stature, with standout performances at the 2021 American Music Awards, her 2022 Coachella festival debut and a headlining appearance at her hometown's Broccoli City Festival earlier this month. The momentum only continued when she amassed four BET Awards and six BET Soul Train Awards nominations at this year's ceremonies.

More information.

ari lennox tour live nation

Ari Lennox has a voice that never fails. She is the first female artist signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville label and you’ll know why as soon as you hear her distinctive voice, it pierces right through and stays with you. Early fans of the Washington, D.C.-bred singer-songwriter became clued in three years ago when they began repeatedly clicking onto YouTube to hear her refreshing, laid-back vocals on soulful covers of songs by Coldplay, Fantasia, Blink 182 and finally her own track ‘La La La La.’ The buzz grew following the release of ‘Backseat’ (featuring Cozz) – her first single after being signed to Dreamville/Interscope in late 2015. Now it’s time for everyone else to catch up.

2024 Essence Festival Performer Ari Lennox Is Just Warming Up

With recent shows in Vegas, sultry music videos for songs like “Get Close,” and blessing us with timeless beauty looks on the ‘gram, Ari Lennox reminds us that she’s just getting warmed up.

In less than a week, you’ll also find the Grammy-nominated performer serenading the audience at Essence Festival of Culture’s 30th anniversary in New Orleans.

But this isn’t her first rodeo. In 2017, the R&B and Soul artist made her debut appearance on the stage. Then again at House of BET in 2019, followed by her latest earth-defying performance at the festival last year. This time, however, Lennox has a few tricks up her sleeve.

Below, Ari Lennox talks to ESSENCE about preparing for festival, her beauty evolution and the new album we’ve all been waiting for.

ESSENCE: What excites you most about performing at the Essence Festival’s 30th anniversary?

Ari Lennox: I’m most excited about being around all of the beautiful people of color and performing with legends that I look up to, the legendary Roots who I love dearly.

What does self-care look like for you on the day of a big show like Essence Fest?

AL: Self-care on show day consists of 10,000 steps of walking, maybe some forensic files, ginger tea, conversations with loved ones, healthy eating, maybe sims 3 and warming up.

How do you feel both your approach to music and beauty have evolved over the years?

AL: When it comes to music, I’m a lot more serious when creating and a lot more receptive to help. I’m very focused and welcoming of my guy Pierre who is my vocal producer. He helps make sure I’m singing correctly and pushes me to perform and deliver better which is exciting. I never realized how important it is to have vocal producers around when creating. With beauty, I’ve grown to really love makeup.

I love a beat face and wish I could have it done more often. I actually hate getting my hair done still as it’s a process that requires a lot of manipulation and I’m always fearful that my fragile strands will break off. And I love all of the hair experts I’ve worked with as they have been gentle with me. I wish I could be more relaxed in their chairs.

Who are your biggest musical and beauty inspirations at the moment?

AL: My inspirations currently include Marvin Gaye, Tammi Terrell, Deniece Williams, Beyoncé, Solange and Madonna.

You’ve consistently released albums that are roughly 3 years apart over the years. The last being in 2022. That said, can we expect a new project from you in 2025?

AL: Yes Honey, the album drops in 2025. Expect some beautiful songs soon. I am being so honest and accountable and self aware and a hot mess with this music. I’m spilling my entire soul. I’m letting myself experience and express all of my emotions that I try to conceal from the world. Courtney is popping out a baby.

I’m so happy to share new experiences with the world and challenge typical topics my fans are used to hearing from me. I’m so grateful for the producers I’ve been working with, Bongo By the way, Elite, Dave James, Ron Gilmore, Jermaine Dupri, Camper, Ant Clemons, Tommy Parker  and many more.   We have been diligently locked in. I have never been so present and excited and serious about a body of work before. So stay tuned cutie patooties.

LL Cool J names NLE Choppa as one of his favorite new artists at the BET Media House on June 28, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.

Once again, Black excellence stood front and center during this year’s dual celebration of the BET Awards and Black Music Month. Kendrick Lamar’s surprise  The Pop Out – Ken & Friends  at the Kia Forum and T-Pain’s co-curated concert at the Hollywood Bowl — both held on the Juneteenth holiday in Los Angeles — catapulted everything into high gear in the days leading up to BET Week 2024.

Those six days before the BET Awards (June 30) were jam-packed with opportunities to hear new music, reunite/network with industry colleagues or just plain chill. There were album listening parties involving a diverse array of artists including Eric Benét, Lucky Daye and Marsha Ambrosius. There were also artist showcases, including Columbia’s featuring R&B newcomers Aqyila, Iniko, Qing Madi and Q and SiriusXM Pandora Presents Coco Jones. There were other awards events such as ASCAP’s annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards honoring Usher, Victoria Monét and Lil Baby, YouTube’s second Leaders and Legends gala honoring Cash Money’s Bryan and Ronald Williams and the 12 th  annual Culture Creators fete honoring Teyana Taylor, BET executive vp Connie Orlando and more. Also celebrating in full effect on different evenings: Interscope Geffen and Republic with its own “kickback” hang.

Among the weekend highlights were two BET-affiliated concerts. The first (June 28) featured Cardi B, Gunna, Sexyy Red, Davido and Jordan Ward. The next evening (June 29), in partnership with Live Nation Urban, the Roots Picnic: Hip-Hop Is the Love of My Life rolled into the Hollywood Bowl. The 44-song setlist included compelling performances by The Roots (also the night’s back-up band), The Pharcyde, Common, Arrested Development and more. But it was the ladies who brought the house down. Queen Latifah started out the gate with several songs including “Had It Up To Here” before ushering fellow female rap trailblazers The Lady Rage, Monie Love, MC Lyte  and Yo-Yo to the stage — all of whom came together for a rousing take on Latifah’s Grammy-winning hit “U.N.I.T.Y.”

So without further ado, here’s a gallery of photo highlights capturing BET Week 2024.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The best of Black culture’s policymakers, thought leaders, creatives, spiritual gurus, business movers and shakers, health experts and, of course, musical talent are poised to converge in New Orleans over the Fourth of July weekend as part of the Essence Festival of Culture .

The festival kicks off Thursday and runs through Sunday. This year, it celebrates 30 years of entertainment, networking and thought-provoking conversations to inspire solutions for issues facing urban communities. The underlying premise remains the same: purposeful partying.

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to hold a conversation with Essence CEO Caroline Wanga during the Global Black Economic Forum on Saturday at the festival. The visit comes amid calls by some for the replacement of President Joe Biden on the Democratic presidential ticket following his debate with former President Donald Trump. Those types of in-depth dialogues, covering a wide-range of topics, can be expected throughout the event.

“This experience was built to celebrate 25 years of Essence magazine, Black womanhood,” said Hakeem Holmes, vice president for the Essence Festival of Culture. “Black women built this festival, Black women poured into this festival. They had a good time at this festival, made relationships and networked — all at this festival — and then they brought what they learned home with them.”

Since its beginning, the festival has morphed into a multi-generational event that seeks to touch the entire Black family, by offering “a little bit of everything for everyone,’' Holmes said.

Much of that transition, Holmes said, is thanks to the city that’s hosted the event every year except one. In 2006, Houston hosted the festival, while New Orleans dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Lisa Alexis, director of Mayor Latoya Cantrell’s Office of Cultural Economy, said 30 years of Essence has had a $327 million impact on the city.

“It started as a party with a purpose, but over the years they’ve expounded on that,” Alexis said. “We now have the Black Global Economic Forum , the film festival, a wellness area, a marketplace. Our businesses have the opportunity through this partnership to be a part of the vendor market, and we’re able to share and support one another as our cultural entrepreneurs look to grow.”

That kind of paying it forward is what helps keep the festival relevant, Holmes said.

“Relevancy is driven by our relationship to this community,” said Holmes, a New Orleans native. “We are constantly listening. … We have what folks want to see throughout this event. We have people who are coming to have conversations about things they can actionably take as next steps when they return home. And, we have the parties, too!”

Holmes said keeping long-term fans engaged in the festival is always a challenge.

“It’s like expecting something new while maintaining the familiar,” he said. “I think it’s like going to church every Sunday. You’re gonna get a different sermon by the same person, but for whatever reason, every Sunday you’re touched differently. That is the essence of the festival. It’s a community gathering. It’s a homecoming. It’s a reunion. And I think that is what attracts and keeps people engaged.”

Holmes said the festival will be available in person and virtually (via essence.com ). “We’re giving folks everything they want in a consolidated amount of time during the day and then at night, they can go and have a good time,” he said.

That good time includes a Friday night concert inside the Superdome featuring Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Friends as they, too, celebrate 30 years of Cash Money Records and its Millionaires. Juvenile, Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, The Roots and Mannie Fresh are scheduled to perform. R&B singers Jacquees and Ari Lennox and country artist Mickey Guyton also will take the stage.

Usher headlines Saturday and celebrates the 20th anniversary of his “Confessions” album, which includes hits like “Yeah,” “Burn,” “Caught Up” and “Bad Girl.” “Confessions’’ has sold more than 10 million units in the U.S. Others scheduled to perform include Charlie Wilson, Ayra Starr, Big Boi, Donell Jones, Lloyd, Method Man, Sheila E. and TGT — a trio featuring Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank.

Janet Jackson is the headliner Sunday, the final night. Victoria Monét , Keke Palmer, Teedra Moses, Tank and the Bangas, Dawn Richard, SWV, Jagged Edge, Bilal and Anthony Hamilton will also perform. The four-day event will close with the return of the all-white party and a special tribute to Frankie Beverly & Maze, curated by Grammy award-winning producer and songwriter, Bryan-Michael Cox. Beverly has said that he is stepping away from performing live, and the group has been on a farewell tour.

For the festival’s first 15 years, Frankie Beverly & Maze closed the event with a massive performance, watched by thousands singing along to the group’s hits, including “Before I Let Go,” “Joy and Pain” and “Happy Feelin’s.” In 2010, a new event producer ended the tradition to the disappointment of many festgoers despite the talent tapped to close, including Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige and Lionel Richie.

“This is our big send-off to Frankie & Maze,” Holmes said. “It will be a mix of him singing and others singing to him. This will be a true, here-are-your-flowers moment.”

This year, Holmes said, organizers seek to celebrate milestones.

“To have both Usher and Janet on the same bill. Such pioneers in their genre. What we’re ultimately seeing in this 30th year is a passing of the torch in culture and musically. Having Victoria Monét on the same night as Janet. That’s what you’ll see on the night-by-night. Chronology of acts that are reminiscent, that speak to multi-generations and give the people who they want to see,” he said.

About Post Malone

A 9x diamond-certified GRAMMY® Award-nominated phenomenon, Dallas, TX artist Post Malone regularly rewrites history, blurs boundaries, and incites internet-breaking conversation with every move. Emerging in 2015 with a genre-less brew that inspired a movement, he delivered the diamond-selling “Congratulations” [feat. Quavo], achieved back-to-back #1 debuts on the Billboard Top 200, received countless multi-Platinum certifications around the world, and smashed one record after another with his Hot 100-topping hits. In 2022, he pushed boundaries again with his fourth full-length offering, Twelve Carat Toothache , which marked his fourth consecutive Top 5 bow on the Top 200. It also paved the way for his biggest headliner to date, The Twelve Carat Toothache Tour, taking over arenas for multiple dates in major cities throughout the year. He even scored “the highest-certified single in RIAA history” with the 17x-platinum “Sunflower ( Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse )” [feat. Swae Lee], netting the biggest single of his generation. In 2023, he garnered a GRAMMY® Award nod in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for “I Like You (A Happier Song)” [with Doja Cat], marking his tenth career nomination in six years.

Three years prior, his 2019 third full-length, Hollywood’s Bleeding [Republic Records], represented an audience and critical high watermark. Not only did it arrive at platinum status and eventually go triple platinum, but it also reigned at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 for four weeks and returned to the chart for a fifth week, making for the longest run atop the chart of 2019 and the first release to do so in over a year. The quadruple-platinum lead single “Circles” seized #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks. It notably occupied a spot on the chart for a record 39 weeks in total. Speaking of making history, he performed a massively popular Nirvana tribute concert on YouTube, raising over $10,000,000 for the World Health Organization in the fight against COVID-19. Hollywood’s Bleeding followed the immense success of the triple-Platinum beerbongs & bentleys , which also landed at #1 a year prior. In the wake of beerbongs & bentleys , Post crushed a record in place for 54 years. He charted nine songs in the Top 20 of the Hot 100, notching “the most songs in the Top 20 of the Hot 100 ever . ” Moreover, he also trounced the record for most simultaneous Top 40 Hot 100 hits with 14.

As of 2023, his catalog comprises the GRAMMY® Award-nominated “rockstar” [feat. 21 Savage” (Diamond), “Sunflower ( Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse )” [feat. Swae Lee] (2x Diamond), “I Fall Apart” (Diamond), “Psycho” [feat. Ty Dolla $ign] (Diamond), “White Iverson” (Diamond), “Better Now” (Diamond), and more. Not to mention, he sold out numerous arena tours and hosted and curated his own mega-popular Posty Fest in 2018 and 2019. It all started with his quintuple-platinum influential 2016 debut, Stoney . With records under his belt that will likely never be surpassed and a generation of artists and audiences worldwide under his spell, Post Malone simply doesn’t stop.
