About Pickens, SC

Location details, buying or selling a home.

The Greenville, SC metro area is a place with a long and interesting history. It started way back in the 18th century when European settlers first came to the area. Over time, it became known for its textile industry, which was a big part of its economy in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Nowadays, Greenville has grown into a bustling city with a lot more going on.

Geographically, Greenville is nestled in the upstate region of South Carolina, surrounded by the beauty of rolling hills and the Blue Ridge Mountains. This setting offers stunning views and lots of opportunities for outdoor fun like hiking, biking, and enjoying the lakes and rivers nearby. The climate here is pretty mild, with hot summers and cool winters, making it a pleasant place to live year-round.

When it comes to the economy, Greenville is doing well. It's home to a mix of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, education, and technology. Big companies and small businesses alike find a home here, contributing to job growth and making the area's economy vibrant. Plus, living costs are relatively low compared to other big cities, which is a big plus for many people.

As for voting patterns, Greenville tends to lean conservative, with many residents supporting the Republican party. However, there's a growing number of younger folks and a more varied population that's starting to change the political landscape a bit.

Life in Greenville is full of things to do. The downtown area is lively, with shops, restaurants, and places for entertainment. There's a strong arts and culture scene, with galleries, theaters, and music venues offering something for everyone. And, of course, the great outdoors is never far away, with plenty of parks and trails for nature lovers.

For those thinking of moving to Greenville, there's a lot to look forward to. It's a community that welcomes newcomers with open arms and offers a high quality of life. New residents should be ready for the warm summers and should take the chance to explore all the natural beauty and cultural offerings the area has to offer. It's also good to know about the area's growth, which has brought more traffic and higher housing prices, though it remains more affordable than many other places.

In summary, Greenville, SC, combines the charm of Southern living with the benefits of a growing economy and a wide range of activities and amenities. It's a place where history meets modern living, set against a backdrop of natural beauty. For anyone looking to join this friendly, active community, Greenville has a lot to offer.

Donald Trump to hold rally in Pickens, SC. Visit to coincide with Independence Day event.

Former President Donald Trump is making a stop in Pickens as part of the city's Independence Day Spectacular on Saturday, July 1.

The City of Pickens released details about Trump's appearance Wednesday night.

"President Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America, will celebrate Independence Day and deliver remarks to first-in-the-South voters, along with state lawmakers and other special guests in the City of Pickens, South Carolina on Saturday, July 1, 2023," the city's Facebook post stated.

Gates open at 9 a.m. for Trump's campaign event on Main Street. The city said more details will be provided. Trump is scheduled to speak at 1 p.m. with guest speakers beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The Independence Day Spectacular wraps up at 9 p.m. with fireworks at dusk at Bruce Field.

Trump's appearance comes after court appearance on federal charges

Trump, who enjoys immense popularity in the Upstate, has remained a front-runner in the Republican primary field despite facing federal criminal charges that he hoarded sensitive classified documents and defied a grand jury subpoena to give them back.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll showed 43% of self-identified Republicans preferred Trump as their preferred candidate and 22% said they favored Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The Republican hopeful's return to South Carolina will come weeks after he appeared in court in Miami, Tuesday, June 13. Trump pled not guilty to 37 charges related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents , which included military information related to nuclear programs.

Last month, a Manhattan jury found Trump liable for damages in a sexual assault case involving former journalist E. Jean Carroll.

In March, a Manhattan jury indicted Trump on charges of mismanaging campaign funds. Prosecutors argued Trump falsified business records to cover up hush money payments to an ex-mistress named  Stormy Daniels . The use of campaign funds to buy silence was seen as an illegal campaign contribution.

Trump's former vice president,  Mike Pence , has joined the growing list of  2024 Republican candidates  who are now starting to attack him. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley  and current  U.S. Sen. Tim Scott  have stepped up criticism of Trump in the wake of the former president's second indictment.

How this will affect Trump's 2024 run remains to be seen. The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed the federal charges have not affected his popularity as a candidate. More than one third of Republicans polled felt the charges were politically motivated.

Meanwhile, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll showed a potential rematch of the 2020 contest had 34% backing President Joe Biden and 32% backing Trump. Nearly a quarter said they would support an unspecified independent contender. In a choice between Biden and DeSantis, Biden leads DeSantis by 33%-26%.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
