Costa Cruises: beverage packages and drinks list and pricing (2024)

Updated: Mar 5

Undoubtedly, one of the most recurring topics when choosing and customizing our cruise is taking into account what is included or not. This is a guide to know how the drinks and packages work on Costa Cruises:

Bar menu - list and pricing

As with any cruise, the menu consists of all types of beverages such as water, juices, coffees, alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, and a wide variety of wines and beers. Something to keep in mind is that on Costa Cruises, no drinks are included . You only have access to machine water, juices, and coffee at the buffet and during breakfast (both buffet and à la carte). The ship does not have water fountains nor does it provide water in restaurants outside of breakfast. If you want a glass of bottled water, you will have to pay for it. Knowing this, here is the general drink menu in PDF format:

As you can see, the menu is divided into sections and the price of each beverage is listed next to it. However, there are several things to keep in mind. The first is that, as mentioned in the previous video, a 15% service charge is added to the price of the products . So, if you order a bottle of water for €3.50, you will be charged €4.03 after the service charge is added. This is important to note when calculating the cost of purchasing drinks separately.

You will also notice that some drinks (especially wine bottles) are marked with a discount for C|Club members . This applies to all members, meaning that you can access these types of discounts just by registering for the club for free before the cruise through the Costa website.

Finally, remember that the prices on the menu have increased in recent months. This is especially important for those who had calculated their beverage expenses on past cruises, as it will now be higher. For example, the price of water has increased from €2.90 to €3.40, coffee from €1.70 to €2.20, and a tropical cocktail from €8.20 to €9.30.

Specialty bars

The menu I provided is the general drink menu. What I mean by this is that there are bars on certain ships that have different menus. For example, pool bars usually do not have all the beverages available. Similarly, there are ships like the Costa Toscana that have exclusive bars such as the Campari Bar, Heineken Brewery, or Ferrari Bar. These spaces offer exclusive drinks from the location, some of which are also included in the beverage packages that we will discuss below. I don't have the updated menus right now, but I will try to share them as soon as I get them.

Unlimited packages

Like almost all cruise lines, Costa offers a range of unlimited beverage packages that we can book before boarding or once on board. If you book with an all-inclusive rate, you will have the My Drinks package (formerly known as Più Gusto ). It is the most popular package and includes a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages . These are the ones you will find on the menu marked with a yellow dot . Something to keep in mind is that this package includes drinks served in a glass, meaning you can order all the glasses of water you want but not all the bottles you want. In fact, it includes one 0.5l bottle per person per night . This means that if you take a 7-night cruise, you will have 7 small bottles to pick up at any bar, ideal for your room or excursions.

If you travel in a suite or decide to upgrade the package, you have My Drinks Plus (previously known as Intenditore ). This selection is much more extensive and includes specialty coffees, premium alcoholic brands, and unlimited water bottles . You will find all the drinks on the menu marked with a dark red dot .

You will also find the Brindiamo package (blue) , which includes a shorter selection of alcohol , mainly excluding cocktails with alcohol; and the My Soft Drinks package, which exclusively includes non-alcoholic beverages (red) .

The prices of the packages may vary, so check with Costa or your agency to get a price according to the number of nights you will be on board. As a reference, the My Drinks package on the Costa Toscana for 7 nights cost me around 250€.

If you feel like having something outside of your drink package once on board, you can request an upgrade or you can also choose to pay for drinks not included in the package. Additionally, in some bars, you can purchase certain drinks from the My Drinks Plus package by paying only a supplement if you already have the My Drinks package.

Drink packages cannot be shared and it is mandatory to contract them for all passengers in the same cabin. If you are traveling with children, they will have the non-alcoholic package.

Limited packages

You may be thinking that a package might be too much for you, and paying for drinks one by one may not seem like the best option. This is quite common among travelers who have a very specific selection of drinks or who consider paying, for example, 500€ for a couple in the same cabin excessive for what they are going to consume. In that case, there are packages known as limited.

These packages offer you a closed selection of drinks and a limited number of them , so you will pay a fixed price for, for example, 20 bottles of water, 40 coffees, or 30 beers. To learn more details, you can access myCosta.com with your booking number and see what each one offers. Something interesting is that these packages can be shared , and can be purchased by a single guest in the cabin. However, it will be charged to the card of the person who hires it.

I have contracted it on one occasion, where I took a package of 20 non-alcoholic cocktails for myself and my companion, which adapted to what we thought we would consume during the cruise.

costa cruise alcohol

All-inclusive?

Remember that traveling with the all-inclusive fare refers to daily tips and the drinks package. Nothing more. None of the drinks packages include ice cream, pizzas, or any other specialty restaurant. In fact, they inform that drinks packages cannot be used in specialty restaurants, although so far I have not found myself in a situation where I have been charged for water when eating in them.

So... is it worth it?

It's time to decide. Should I get a drinks package or not? The answer to this is completely personal and depends solely on each person's preferences. With this article, you can make an approximate calculation of what you will consume and compare the prices offered by the packages with those on the menu taking into account everything important. In my case, I have traveled with a package, without a package, and with a limited package as I mentioned before. On some occasions, the all-inclusive rate was better for me, and on others, I chose not to take it. I believe that if you have a package, you will end up taking advantage of it since you have no limits, just as if you travel without it, you will possibly restrain yourself more.

Extra: my favorites

Finally, I want to share my favorite selection of drink s if you are traveling with Costa, especially for those who are traveling for the first time and are all included in My Drinks :

Non-alcoholic cocktails: Pink Panther / Squok / Cosmopolitan

Alcoholic cocktails: Strawberry Daiquiri / Piña Colada / Margarita

Coffees: Macchiato / Cappuccino / Macchiato with Bailey's and ice

Specialty bar: Ferrari and its sparkling and strawberry or passion fruit cocktails

Costa Cruises Drinks Packages Guide

When you book a cruise, one thing you’ll always want to know is – how much are the drinks packages and should I get one.

A group of people enjoying a social event on the deck of a cruise ship, with a clear blue sky above and the ship's yellow funnel in the background. They are dressed in smart casual attire, holding cocktails, and engaging in cheerful conversation.

And this is especially true with Costa Cruises, because they charge you for all drinks – including water! Yep, that’s right, you can’t even get tap water with a meal without paying extra.

The Costa Cruises drink packages are pretty confusing, and also kinda secret!

But fear not, I’ve just booked a Costa Cruises, so in this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know – including some vital info that you won’t find out until after booking.

Costa Cruises has many different drink packages that they don’t tell you about

If you book your Costa Cruise online, you’ll be shown one drink package option – this is called My Drinks Package.

This is usually priced at £30 per night (prices will be shown in your local currency)

An advertisement for a "My Drinks Package" priced at +£150 for one guest, featuring an image of joyful people with drinks in hand at a sunset beach party. Text describes the package includes cold drinks, wines, cocktails, beers, cappuccinos, coffee, and liqueurs, positioning it as a way to satisfy every thirst and whim. Two call-to-action buttons read "Read more details" and "Add".

After you book, you’ll be able to log into MyCosta, where you’ll see more drinks package options. These are priced in Euros, but they work out to be the same price.

So, let’s take a look at each of Costa Cruises’ drink packages, so you can decide which is for you…

Costa Cruises Drink Package Prices

TV screen onboard Costa Smeralda showing drink package prices

As well as these options, which give you an unlimited number of drinks each day, Costa Cruises has some more drinks packages that give you a certain number of drinks to enjoy throughout your cruise, such as 20 beers or 5 glasses of wine.

Now, let’s take a closer look at each of the packages so you can decide which is the best for you…

1. My Drinks Plus

Price = €48 Per Night

Two elegant martini glasses with a unique twisted stem design, the forefront glass filled with a clear liquid and colorful spherical garnishes, against a warm, bokeh-lit bar backdrop.

Costa Cruises’ top drinks package includes pretty much everything you could want. You’ll get unlimited hot and cold drinks, bottled water, soft drinks, fruit juices, premium cocktails, glasses of wine and prestigious brands of liquor.

The My Drinks Plus package also includes access to your minibar – if you have one, not all cabins do.

There are some limitations, even with this premium package. You can use it almost everywhere on the ship, but not in the Archipelago or Casanova speciality restaurants. This applies to all of the other packages too.

The beers mentioned on the website are only draught Heineken and bottled Corona and Becks. There are no mention of other beers in the package, so watch out there. You may wish to check with the bartender before ordering.

I expect that some of the more expensive wines and spirits won’t be included. The Costa Cruises website doesn’t give any details, so if you have expensive tastes, this package may not be for you.

2. My Drinks

Price = €35 Per Night

A smiling woman with short silver hair, joyfully toasting with a colorful cocktail on the deck of a ship, sharing a relaxed moment with companions against a clear blue sky. She is casually dressed, indicative of a leisurely cruise atmosphere.

This package is slightly cheaper, and has a few more limitations. But, it’s a good value drink package if you like to drink alcoholic drinks but don’t want to spend too much.

Firstly, when it comes to water, you can get unlimited water by the glass, but only one 500ml bottle per person, per day. So you may wish to save this to take on your excursions or to have by your bed.

You don’t get any fruit juice included in this package. Bottled beers are off the cards too, so draught Heineken may be your only beer option.

Cocktails are limited to ‘classic’ cocktails like mojitos. You’ll have to check the menu to see which ones you can have.

And the premium spirits aren’t included either, so you’ll have to stick to house brands.

Lastly, the My Drinks package doesn’t cover anything in your mini bar.

So, while this drink package seems like a good deal, it could be annoying if you have to always check if your drink is included. I don’t like the stress of that on a cruise, particularly if it isn;t obvious from the menu. So I’d probably avoid this package for that reason.

3. My Soft Drinks

Price = €23 Per Night

A vibrant group of friends enjoying breakfast together, with fresh fruit, pastries, and orange juice on the table, in a brightly lit room with a window showcasing a sunset or sunrise. Their laughter and the casual, cozy atmosphere suggest a happy start to the day.

If you don’t drink a lot of alcohol, then the My Soft Drinks package could be for you.

This package includes a selection of non-alcoholic beverages like water, coffee, herbal teas, hot chocolate, iced teas, fruit juices, soft drinks by the glass, Crodino and classic non-alcoholic cocktails.

Again, the website doesn’t specify what’s not included. I suspect that canned soft drinks won’t be, and as there’s no mention of milkshakes and smoothies, they may not be either.

4. 100% alcohol-free (40 beverages)

Price = €135

100% alcohol-free (40 beverages) package

With this package, and the next ones, you’ll pay a set fee to enjoy a limited number of drinks over the course of your cruise.

So, for €135 you’ll get 40 non-alcoholic drinks like fruit juices, cold teas, cordials, and non-alcoholic long drinks.

That works out at €3.38 per drink. Most soft drinks cost €3.70, and some are cheaper at just €3.10 fruit juice or herbal tea, so it’s not exactly a great deal. Plus, waster is cheaper still, so it won’t help you with your drinking water bill.

The good thing about this package is that you can split it between as many people as you like. This might sound handy if you have a lot of kids, for example.

But it also has its pitfalls – you might worry that if one person buys the package, but the other person goes to the bar, then the drinks won’t be assigned to the account with the package.

So for those reasons, I’d definitely avoid this one.

5. 100% alcohol-free (20 beverages)

Price = €79

Costa Cruises 100% alcohol-free (20 beverages) package

This is similar to the 40 drink package, but just for 20 drinks, making it more suitable for shorter cruises.

However, this makes the cost of drinks now €3.95, so it’s virtually impossible to break even.

This package may seem like a good idea, but in reality, I can’t see how it makes sense for anyone to buy it. Unless of course, they haven’t done their research, which you have – so good on you.

6. Classic Package

Price = €155

Costa Cruises Classic Package

Costa Cruises’ Classic Package includes 7 bottles of water, 3 bottles of red wine and 3 bottles of white wine.

This seems perfect for a couple on a 7-night cruise who like to share a bottle of wine and a bottle of water over dinner each evening.

But is it worth it?

Well, each 1-litre bottle of water costs €3.50, each bottle of house white wine costs €25.50 and each bottle of house red costs €38.

So the total cost of the drinks if you bought them individually would be €215.

You’re therefore saving €60.

That’s not a bad saving, if you would have bought those drinks anyway. If you don’t like those particular wines or don’t always want a bottle, then it could make it feel a bit restrictive.

7. Draught beers

Price = €105

Two pint glasses of beer with a perfect head of foam, one in the foreground and one held by a person in the background, on a wooden surface with a warm, inviting ambiance typical of a cozy pub or social gathering area on a cruise.

Costa Cruises’ beer package entitles you to twenty beers during your cruise. You’re allowed to share it with as many people as you like.

The beers are 40cl draught Heineken (that’s about ¾ of a pint each).

So, is it a good deal for beer drinkers?

Well, each beer costs €4.80 when purchased individually. So 20 beers would cost you €96. That’s less than the package price!

According to Costa Cruises, a 15% service charge is added to all drinks bills, so when you factor that in you’d pay €110.

Still, it’s definitely not worth getting the package and powering through 20 beers to save yourself 25 cents on each one. Avoid.

8. Water, Coffee & Beer Package

Price = €89

A promotional image contrasting a glass of beer with a rich head of foam against two bottles of San Benedetto water, one "Naturale" and one "Frizzante", flanked by coffee cups with the "Vergnano 1882" logo, representing a variety of beverage options.

This next package includes 7 bottles of water (1-litre), 7 draught beers (40cl) and 14 coffees (espresso or decaf) for €89.

So on a 7-night cruise, you could enjoy a morning coffee, an afternoon beer, water with dinner and a coffee afterwards each day. Sounds nice, right?

Let’s do the maths on that to work out the savings…

  • Water: 7 x €3.50
  • Beer: 7 x €4.80
  • Coffee: 14 x €2.20

Total = €88.90

It’s almost exactly the same price! Of course, there’s the 15% service charge to factor in, but still, it’s hardly a bargain. Especially when you consider that sometimes you might want a fancier coffee, or a wine instead of a beer.

9. Bottled Mineral Water Package

Price = €42

A selection of blue plastic water bottles with caps, closely packed together with a hand reaching for one, illuminated by a cool blue light that gives the scene a fresh and clean feeling.

If you hate the idea of having to pay for water with meals, then you may be thinking about Costa Cruises’ bottled water package.

This package gives you 13 bottles of water (1-litre each). You can enjoy these during meals, at any time on board, or you can take them off the ship on your excursions.

At €3.50 each, 13 bottles will cost you €45.50. So really, what you’re getting is buy 12, get one free with this deal.

10.  Super Vitamin Package

Price = €33

A close-up of a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice with a vibrant, refreshing appearance, garnished with a mint leaf and a slice of orange on the rim, accompanied by a straw. The background features whole oranges and a natural, soft textile, suggesting a healthy, homemade beverage.

If you love freshly squeezed fruit juice every day, then this isn’t a bad deal. You’re getting 7 drinks for the price of 5. So if you know you’re going to drink a lot of these, then this could be a handy package to buy in advance to save a few Euros.

Note, these are the prices for my cruise on Costa Smeralda . They may vary slightly for different cruises, so be sure to check your own My Costa cruise planner for accurate prices.

Things To Know About Costa Cruises Drink Packages

Before you go ahead and buy your package, there are a few things you should know.

1. Every guest must have a package

Everyone sharing a cabin or on the same reservation number must have the same package. (Only for the unlimited drinks packages, not for the set number of drinks ones.)

This includes children aged 4 and up. Of course, under 18s can’t have any alcoholic drinks. So if you buy one of the more expensive packages that includes alcohol, then you also have to buy the same package for your kids.

This makes it virtually impossible to break-even on your drinks package if you have kids or non-drinkers with you.

2. You should buy your package before your cruise

Just as with most cruise lines, with Costa Cruises if you wait until you’re on the ship to buy your drinks package you’ll end up paying more for it.

Beverage package sales desk on board Costa Smeralda

Ideally, wait until after you book, to log into My Costa and you’ll see the greatest choice of packages.

3. You can get free water in the buffet

The buffet isn’t open all the time, but when it is, you may wish to fill up on the free water.

water machines in the buffet on Costa Smeralda

Refilling your own water bottle from the water machine in the buffet isn’t very hygienic, as the rim of your used bottle could accidentally touch the water spout.

However, if you pour yourself glasses of water and then carefully decant them into your own bottle, there should be no issues.

I’d suggest doing this at breakfast time so that you have water to take with you on your excursions.

4. Some drinks are free at breakfast

If you want to make the most of free drinks, breakfast is the time to do it. Either in the main dining room or the buffet, you’ll find a selection of fruit juices, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water, milk and plant milks (if you ask for them)

The free drinks I enjoyed at breakfast on my cruise on Costa Smeralda

5. The drinks on Costa Cruises are pretty cheap

You may decide that as the drinks are so reasonably priced, you may not need a drink package. I find them to be similar to a standard pub or restaurant on land.

Here are some example drinks prices:

  • Cocktails – €5.70 – €10.30
  • Mocktails – €6.70 – €7.30
  • Sprit & mixer – €7.80 – €12.40
  • Glass of wine – €5.70 – €10.30
  • Large draught beer – €6.10
  • Bottled beer – €4
  • Soft drinks = €3.70
  • Energy drinks – €4.70
  • Fruit juices – €3.10 – 5.70
  • Bottled water – €3.50 (litre) or €2.20 (500ml)
  • Glass of water – €1
  • Coffee – €2.20 – €6.70

Is a drink package worth it on a Costa Cruise?

When I booked my cruise on Costa Smeralda, I chose not to get the drink package. At €35 per day, the My Drinks package is pretty reasonable, and cheaper than most other cruise lines. But then, the drinks are pretty reasonable too.

Me with a beer on my Costa Cruise

I’ll be taking a refillable bottle to enjoy water from the buffet, and also will be making the most of the free tea and coffee there. Of course, I’ll still have a glass of wine with dinner and maybe a couple of cocktails throughout the day. But with a port-intensive itinerary, I think it would be hard to break even on a drink package unless you’re drinking six or seven drinks per day.

Costa Cruises, Drinks Guide – Drinks Packages and Menus

When I took my first Costa cruise I didn’t purchase a drinks package. That was a big mistake for me.

When I took my second Costa cruise on Costa Smeralda, one of the first things I did when I got on board was buy a soft drinks package.

Costa Cruises even charges for water in the main restaurant. Tea, coffee and water are available in the buffet when it is open.

What Is Cruising With Costa Cruises Like?

Costa cruise ships are bright, loud – and offer great value for money. Every deck on Costa Smeralda was painted a different, bright colour.

Don’t expect to find tasteful, muted colours onboard!

There were lots of children and babies onboard our sailing, as Costa offers great value fares for children.

When you sail with Costa, you are considered to be a child until you are seventeen years old. For families, that can make a great deal of difference to the price you pay.

Costa certainly isn’t for everyone, but we had a great time onboard.

What Do Drinks Packages On Costa Cruises Cost?

Beverage packages with Costa Cruises start at around € 27 a day for a soft drinks package.

Beverage packages that include alcohol – or premium alcoholic drinks cost up to double that amount.

If you have a drinks package but want something else that isn’t included, you will be charged for that item individually.

Why Buy a Package?

I usually do not buy drinks packages when I cruise but when cruising with Costa I would recommend getting a drinks package for a number of reasons:

  • Costa does not include any drinks as standard, apart from water and hot drinks in the buffet
  • Buffet access is limited – There are parts of the day when it is shut and no free drinks will be available.
  • No kettles, tea or coffee-making facilities or fridges in the cabins

costa smeralda

Costa Cruises Beverage Packages

All passengers in the cabin or on the same booking must have the same drinks package.

It isn’t possible for guests in the same cabin to have different drinks packages.

This is very common on a lot of cruise lines and it is done to deter passengers from ‘sharing’ the drinks package.

Find out more about why you can’t “share” drinks packages here:

You Can’t Share a Drinks Package on a Cruise – Here’s Why

Strictly speaking, all guests on the same booking should also have the same drinks package.

I’ve never seen this enforced though. If your party are cruising in a number of different cabins you probably will be okay for one cabin to have a drinks package and another one not.

Drinks packages include a 15% service charge

Costa has simplified their drinks packages in recent years, and prices are charged onboard in Euros.

Prices vary slightly depending on where you are booking from/exchange rates/special booking offers etc.

“My Soft Drinks” Package

This is the package I chose for my Costa Smeralda Cruise in January 2023.

I paid € 27 for my package, and it included a selection of sodas, fruit juices, mocktails, teas and coffees.

This package is quite expensive compared to simple soda packages on some other cruise lines- but as I knew that you couldn’t even have free tap water in the dining room, I thought it was necessary to buy one.

I had some onboard credit applied to my cabin when I booked, so I used this to buy the drinks package once onboard.

costa smeralda drinks package bar lounge

“My Drinks” Package

The My Drinks package includes:

  • Wine by the glass with meals
  • Draught beers
  • Hot chocolate
  • Tea and Coffee
  • Fruit juices,
  • One bottle of water per day

The cost of this drinks package can vary but is in the region of €37 a day

“My Drinks Plus” Package

My Drinks Plus includes all of the drinks listed above and:

  • A wider selection of beers
  • A wider selection of Sodas
  • More Cocktails
  • Named, branded spirits and liqueurs
  • Unlimited bottled water
  • Mini bar drinks.

The cost of this drinks package can vary but is in the region of €52 a day

Service Charges

Costa does have compulsory ‘gratuities’ which are added onto your onboard account each day of your cruise.

To learn more about this, and the other things that surprised me about my first Costa Cruise make sure you check out this post:

Do You Need To Buy A Drinks Package?

No, you can just pay for any drinks you want and they will be charged to your onboard account.

If you don’t drink much, this could be much cheaper.

There will be a 15% service charge added to the cost of individual drinks.

Also be aware that there will be limited access to the free drinks in the buffet, as it isn’t open all the time.

costa cruise alcohol

Costa Cruises Drinks Package Terms and Conditions

All drinks packages are non-transferrable and you cannot share these with any other guests.

This is typical of all cruise ship drinks packages.

When I was on board the Costa Luminosa I shared a dinner table with some ladies who had drinks packages and wanted to share it with me and my family.

We had to politely decline as we didn’t want to break the rules or put the waiter in an awkward situation!

The packages only include drinks by the glass – bottles of wine are not available on any of the packages.

Drinking Age

The drinking age on Costa Cruises is usually 18 – unless the ship is sailing in an area of the world where the drinking age is 21. (In the USA for example.)

Costa Cruises Drinks Prices

If you decide not to buy a drinks package you are able to buy drinks at prices which are similar to that of a bar or pub on land.

When you purchase drinks these will be charged to your cruise account which will be settled at the end of your cruise.

As far as cruise line drinks prices go, Costa’s drinks prices are quite reasonable.

A can of soda will cost around €3 and a bottle of beer around €5. A cocktail will set you back around €8 and a coffee will cost around €3.

Costa Luminosa Statue Women in Lobby

Water Package

When onboard Costa Luminosa, we managed to buy a water package – although I can’t find any evidence that this is a real thing on the Costa Cruises website!

Costa Cruises do not include water with meals, ‘tap water’ isn’t a thing. Your only option is to buy a 2-litre bottle of water if you want water with meals.

By buying the water package we were able to have a set amount of water for a set price. It was very strange not having your water glass constantly refilled by waiters like on most other cruise lines!

Buying a water package of 12-litre bottles of water is likely to cost you around €42.

A Guide to Cruise Line Drink Packages

costa cruise alcohol

Whether you're a first-time cruiser or a seasoned sailor hopping on as many last-minute cruise deals as possible, it's a question sure to arise: Is a cruise line drink package worth it?

It may be a highly personalized answer varying from ship to ship, and from one itinerary to the next. A Royal Caribbean drink package may be worth it to some on a Bahamas cruise , while those on an Alaskan cruise with Holland America may realize they drink fewer frozen cocktails while exploring Glacier Bay .

Found somewhere between the ubiquitous soda packages and the included-in-your-fare booze of most luxury lines, these programs let cruisers pay one base price that covers most -- if not all -- of their nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks onboard. Of course, while high prices and annoying fine print may persuade some travelers to go it a la carte, for others, the freedom to sample the best cruise cocktails and wines of unknown provenance can be too appealing to ignore.

See below for a line-by-line guide to popular cruise line drink packages.

Azamara Drink Package Details : Although Azamara includes most nonalcoholic beverages along with select standard spirits, beers and a changing daily selection of red and white wines by the glass in its cruise fares, the line also has four for-fee beverage and wine packages.

Primary options include the Premium Package, which features more than 20 types of beer and cider and liquors and liqueurs, and the Ultimate Package, which offers even more upscale offerings for liquors and liqueurs, along with Champagne and a selection of wines by the glass, and premium bottled waters.

There are also two wine packages: the Wine Lover Package and the Wine Connoisseur Package. The Wine Lover Package offers five-, seven-, 10- and 12-bottle packages with more than 80 bottles of wine selections. For higher-end wine aficionados, the Wine Connoisseur Package includes 50 bottled varieties including sparkling and dessert wines.

Fine Print : Packages can be pre-purchased (through Azamara or your travel agent ) or bought onboard throughout the length of your cruise. Charges begin on day one or the day you purchase the package. Packages are not refundable once purchased and cannot be downgraded to a lower-tier package. You can only order one drink at a time. Drinks through room service are also permitted, during hours in which shipboard bars are open.

Is the Azamara Drink Package Worth It?

For many travelers, Azamara's complimentary beverage program will be more than sufficient for the duration of a cruise as included beverages range from international beers, a rotating wine selection, and some standard spirits.

Carnival Fantasy (Photo: Carnival Cruise Line)

Carnival Ships with Drink Packages : Fleetwide

Carnival Drink Package Details : Carnival guests can save 10% by purchasing Carnival's Cheers! drink package before sailing, though pre-purchases are cut off a day before embarkation. Cheers! may also be purchased the first day onboard at full price either at Guest Services, from a bartender or at one of Carnival's bars .

After finding the best Carnival cruise deals , purchasing the Cheers! package will include spirits (including cocktails), as well as beer and wine by the glass, sodas, zero-proof frozen cocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffee, hot tea, 500ml bottled water and other nonalcoholic bottled beverages.

Carnival's Bottomless Bubbles program is a strictly soda package, with adult and child pricing available, and includes all-you-can-drink soda and juice for the duration of your cruise.

Fine Print : Packages can be purchased in advance online or by phone, until the evening prior to the cruise departure, or at bars once onboard. If one adult in a cabin purchases the Cheers! package, all adults over 21 years old in that cabin must also purchase it.

Participants can order only one drink at a time, there is a five-minute wait time required between drink purchases, and all bottles and cans are served opened; there is a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks per person within any 24-hour period. The package does not apply to drinks in souvenir glasses or via room service.

Due to state laws, the Cheers! package is not available until the second day of all sailings leaving from ports in New York and Texas. Cheers! applies to onboard beverages only; it cannot be used at Princess Cays or Half Moon Cay . The package must be booked for the entire duration of the voyage.

Is the Carnival Cruise Line Drink Package Worth It?

Carnival Cruise Lines remains one of the best budget cruises and offers one of the most affordable drink packages compared to other cruise lines, but its true value is determined by how many beverages you anticipate consuming during a cruise. If you plan on drinking more than three or four cocktails and a few premium coffees, the package pricing is likely your best deal.

Celebrity Cruises Alcohol Policy (Photo: Celebrity Cruises)

Celebrity Ships with Drinks Packages : All ships except for Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Flora , for which beverages are all-inclusive in the cruise fare

Celebrity Drink Package Details : Celebrity Cruises moved to an all-inclusive offering in 2020, with its "Always Included" packages, which include classic cocktails, wines by the glass, beer, sodas, specialty coffees and teas, juices and bottled water (as well as Wi-Fi and gratuities) when booking eligible cabin fares or when booking The Retreat or Aquaclass.

For passengers sailing on non-All Included Celebrity cruise deals, there are three add-on drinks programs to choose from.

Celebrity's Classic Package includes an array of liquors, beers, wines by the glass and a discount on wine bottles. This package also includes nonalcoholic beverages such as premium coffees and teas, sodas, juice and non-premium bottled water.

The Premium Package includes all classic package items along with premium bar selections, fresh squeezed juices, premium water bottles and bottled iced teas. The package also includes a discount on wine bottles.

Celebrity's Zero Proof Package includes nonalcoholic drinks such as sodas, fresh juices, premium coffees and teas, premium bottled water, vitamin water and Red Bull editions, along with zero proof cocktails. There are no age restrictions on the Zero Proof Package.

Fine Print : Celebrity Drink Packages are sold on a per cruise basis, and not on a per day or any other basis. No refunds will be issued for unused credits. Packages may not be shared, and do not include beverages sold in gift shops, mini-bar, or room service.

Purchased packages may be modified up to four days prior to sailing by canceling and reordering the package. Cancellations or refunds will not be issued onboard the vessel after embarkation day . Availability of drink packages varies by ship. You must be at least 21 years of age to purchase any alcoholic package and to consume alcohol.

Is the Celebrity Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

Celebrity's "Always Included" offers are ideal when booking eligible cruise fares, as the Classic Package is already included and will serve most travelers best. When booking lower base fares, adding a drink package will appeal most to those guests who wish to sample a variety of alcoholic and zero proof beverages without worrying about additional charges throughout the voyage.

Costa Favolosa

Costa Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Costa Drink Package Details : Costa Cruises offers two beverage packages: My Drinks, which is included as part of Costa’s all-inclusive fare, and My Drinks Plus, which is included in Costa's all-inclusive fare for suites or may be added on to other fares.

The My Drinks package includes unlimited wines by the glass with meals, draught beer, specialty coffee, hot chocolate and tea, soft drinks and fruit juices, spirits, cocktails, mocktails and one bottled water per day. If you’re traveling with little ones, unlimited soft drinks and fruit juices are included for them as well.

My Drinks Plus includes all of the above, plus a wider selection of beers, premium cocktails and top-shelf liqueurs, unlimited bottled water and mini bar drinks.

Fine Print : My Drinks and My Drinks Plus selections are not valid in the Archipelago and Casanova Restaurant. Some themed bars and restaurants limit selections. Drink packages must be purchased by all passengers on the same reservation number and/or traveling in the same cabin.

The package for children and teenagers aged 4 to 17 does not include alcoholic beverages. Top-shelf brands and cabin minibar items are excluded from the My Drinks package.

Is the Costa Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

Costa does not allow any drinks to be brought onboard from ashore. In addition, Costa's non-inclusive MYCRUISE fare is bare bones, with limited nonalcoholic beverages available throughout the day.

Cruise Critic members have reported tea, coffee and water is often only available within the buffet during open hours. For guests finding these policies restrictive, the all-inclusive My Drinks package is likely the best solution.

Wine (Photo: Cunard Line)

Cunard Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Cunard Drink Package Details : Cunard offers five drinks packages. The Soft Drinks package includes unlimited fountain sodas and select fruit juices. A Specialty Hot Drinks Option includes unlimited illy specialty coffees, teas and hot chocolates.

The Beers, Wines, and Spirits Option includes a selection of beers, wines by the glass, spirits, liqueurs and cocktails in addition to the benefits of the Premium Soft Drinks Option. This package includes a discount on some bottles of wine, the Cunard Wine Academy and their Cocktail Master Class.

Passengers can also choose from the line's two sommelier-selected Wine Collections -- Commodore’s Collection and Captain’s Collection -- to create a tailormade selection of six or 12 bottles.

Fine Print : Packages can be purchased for sailings of five nights or more and they can be used in all restaurants, bars and cafes onboard. Packages should also be purchased in the first two days of sailing. Included in the package terms, passengers are only allowed to order one drink at a time, with a minimum of 10 minutes between orders. Each adult in the same stateroom must purchase the same Drinks Option. Sharing is not permitted.

Is the Cunard Line Drink Package Worth It?

Cunard's Premium Soft Drinks Option is ideal for those who savor specialty coffees and mocktails, with the bonus of an unlimited assortment of fountain sodas and juices. Guests who will enjoy seven or more alcoholic beverages will likely find Cunard's Beers, Wines, and Spirits Option to be a solid value.

Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy (Photo: NaturalBox/Shutterstock)

Disney Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Disney Drink Package Details : While Disney Cruises offers a variety of drinks onboard their ships, this cruise line does not have a traditional drinks package with an all-inclusive approach.

Instead, Disney cruisers will find a variety of family-friendly beverages included in the cruise fare: soft drinks, coffee and tea served during meals, soft drinks in the teen lounge, as well as other nonalcoholic drinks available at beverage stations.

Disney Cruise Line guests will pay for alcoholic beverages, bottled water, smoothies and specialty coffees. Guests may purchase individual drinks onboard or pay for select drink bundles either once onboard or in advance on Disney's Onboard Gifts page after booking.

Disney drink bundles range from six-packs of beer, six-packs of Truly canned cocktails, and wine options from single bottles up to seven-bottle packages.

At embarkation, per Disney Cruise Line's Alcohol Policy , guests 21 years of age and up may bring two bottles of wine or Champagne, or six beers (12 ounces or less each) in their carryon luggage. Guests may bring additional wine or beer on after each port.

Fine Print : Personal beverages brought onboard may not be consumed in any lounge or public area. A corkage fee is charged for consumption of personal bottles in the dining room. Disney-purchased bundles are non-refundable. If a guest has leftover wine, two bottles may be taken off the ship at disembarkation.

Is the Disney Cruise Line Drink Package Worth It?

Occasional beer and wine drinkers may find the Disney Cruise Line Alcohol Policy generous enough for bringing aboard 6-packs of beer or two bottles of wine at each port during a voyage. For those who plan on drinking more, Disney's bundles may be purchased onboard throughout the voyage.

Holland America Line Alcohol Policy (Photo: Holland America)

Holland America Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Holland America Package Details : While Holland America 's four- and five-star Mariner Society members have access to complimentary wine tastings and mimosas during brunch, other cruisers may find the cruise line's various beverage packages appealing.

Holland America's Signature Beverage Package allows cruisers to indulge in a variety of wine, beer, spirits, cocktails (including nonalcoholic), sodas and coffee for an entire sailing. The Signature package limits guests to 15 total drinks daily, whether alcoholic or not.

For higher shelf selections, the Elite Beverage Package includes premium spirits, cocktails, wines, beers, coffees, nonalcoholic beverages, bottled water and sodas. Guests are limited to 15 alcoholic beverages per day, though nonalcoholic beverages are unlimited with the Elite package.

There are also two nonalcoholic packages available across Holland America cruise deals . Quench includes sodas, premium coffee, juices, mocktails and bottled water with a 15-per day limit. A Coca-Cola package offers unlimited fountain sodas fleetwide and Coca-Cola Freestyle beverages on Pinnacle-class ships including Rotterdam , Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam .

Per Holland America Line's Alcohol Policy , guests may bring one bottle of wine or Champagne in their carry-on luggage during embarkation, or at ports of call, but there is a corkage fee regardless of where the personal alcohol is consumed. No beer or liquor may be brought onboard.

Fine Print : If one passenger in a cabin opts for a Signature or Elite drinks package, anyone who is 21 years old or older in the same cabin is required to purchase it as well. Packages exclude purchases made in the Mini Bar, Honor Bar, Chocolate Seduction, Room Service Dining, beverages purchased on Half Moon Cay and any self-service draft beer. Passengers can only order one drink at a time, and no sharing is permitted.

Is the Holland America Line Drink Package Worth It?

Holland America Line's drink packages remain modestly priced in comparison to some mainstream cruise lines, so those who plan on drinking more than a handful of beverages daily will likely find good value in the Signature Beverage Package or Quench.

One way Cruise Critic members have saved on beverages is with Holland's new Have it All Package , which bundles a Signature Beverage Package with shore excursion credit, Wi-Fi and a specialty dining option for often less than the standalone price of the Signature package.

Drink on Margaritaville at Sea Paradise (Photo/Jorge Oliver)

Margaritaville Ships with Drinks Packages : Paradise

Margaritaville Drink Package Details : Margaritaville At Sea 's Bahamian sailings on Paradise offers guests a basic selection of nonalcoholic refreshments onboard like coffee, tea and water. For those who desire soft drinks and bar beverages, Margaritaville At Sea offers a few unconventional package options available for purchase.

Unlike mainstream all-inclusive drink packages, Margaritaville At Sea categorizes beverage packages by interest with a set number of beverages. The Boat Drinks package includes 10 alcoholic drinks ranging from beer, cocktails and wine.

No Doubts Premium Drinks offers 10 top-shelf specialty cocktails, liquor, beer and wines by the glass. An Unlimited Soda Package includes refills of soda along with a souvenir cup.

Margaritaville At Sea also offers combination packages to include a sparkling wine breakfast, and a variety of License To Chill packages inclusive of a set number of drinks, spa credit and concierge services.

Fine Print : Margaritaville At Sea prohibits beverages, including nonalcoholic drinks, to be brought onboard either as a carry-on or checked luggage on both embarkation and port days.

Is the Margaritaville At Sea Drink Package Worth It?

Margaritaville At Sea drink packages aren't all-inclusive, so anyone who plans on drinking at least 10 alcoholic drinks will save money on the pre-packaged offerings. For less than 10 beverages throughout the voyage, a la carte pricing may be a better option.

Divina Bar on MSC Divina

MSC Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide, excluding ships sailing in South Africa and China

MSC Drink Package Details : MSC Cruises offers multiple beverage packages for adults and minors. Without a purchased drink package, MSC offers standard complimentary beverages including water, drip coffee, hot and iced teas and juices during breakfast.

The cruise line's Easy Package includes select cocktails and mocktails, house wines by the glass, Heineken or similar draft beer and bottles, soft drinks, juices and classic hot drinks ranging from espresso to tea and hot chocolate. This package is valid in all onboard bars, as well as the buffet and main restaurants, but not in specialty restaurants or signature venues.

The Easy Plus Package includes everything in the Easy Package, plus a variety of frozen and classic cocktails, spirits, liqueurs, a wider selection of beers, as well as a discount on bottles of wine. The Easy Plus Package can also be used in specialty restaurants, though not in signature venues.

The Premium Extra Package includes all drinks by the glass, including more premium brands and champagne. This package is available to use everywhere except signature venues.

An Alcohol-Free Package includes zero proof cocktails, fresh fruit and protein cocktails, energy drinks, sodas, hot drink selections and soft serve ice cream . The package is not applicable in specialty restaurants or signature venues.

The Minors Package includes mocktails and all the same selections as the adult Alcohol-Free Package. This package is usable everywhere except specialty restaurants and signature venues.

Fine Print : If one person in a cabin purchases a package, all others in the cabin must purchase a package; the same goes for family or friends traveling together and wishing to share a dinner table. Minors must have an appropriate drink package if adults traveling with them purchase a drink package, though drink packages are not mandatory for infants under three years of age.

Packages must be purchased for the entire duration of each voyage. Drink packages may be used at private island destinations including Ocean Cay and Sir Bani Yas in Emirates.

Only one drink may be ordered at a time. Packages do not include drinks in souvenir glasses. Gratuities are included in all MSC Cruises drink packages.

Is the MSC Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

Since gratuities are included within each of MSC's drink packages , many guests will find value in their preferred package choice. This is especially true since guests may save 15% by prepaying for a drink package before sailing.

Mojito Flight on Norwegian Cruise Line (Photo: Norwegian Cruise Line)

NCL Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide, but note Pride of America has its own package.

NCL Drink Package Details : Norwegian has several beverage packages available across their fleet, with one alcohol package specifically available on Hawaiian sailings with Pride of America.

NCL's Unlimited Open Bar Package, included with Free At Sea promotions or available for purchase with other Norwegian cruise deals , covers select cocktails and spirits, beer and wine by the glass, unlimited soft drinks and juices and a discount on bottles of wine and Champagne. This package may be used onboard and during port visits to Great Stirrup Cay .

Norwegian's Premium Plus Beverage Package covers all drinks by the glass, with no price cap; still and sparkling bottled water; specialty coffees including those at Starbucks; energy drinks; select wines by the bottle at restaurants with 40 percent off other bottles of wine. This package may also be used onboard and during port visits to Great Stirrup Cay.

On Pride of America there is only one program: the Hawaii Beverage Package. This package covers a wide selection of alcoholic beverages including unlimited craft cocktails, wines by the glass and beer, along with soda and juice, still and sparkling bottled water and specialty coffee while dining.

An Unlimited Soda Package offers endless fountain soda for adults and children ages three and up. The soda package is available fleetwide, including Pride of America sailings.

The Unlimited Starbucks Package is ideal for coffee lovers as it includes unlimited classic coffees and espresso beverages, along with all other Starbucks specialty drinks. This package is only valid for beverages and does not include Starbucks snacks or food items. NCL's Unlimited Starbucks Package is available fleetwide, including Pride of America sailings.

Fine Print : Per Norwegian Cruise Line's Alcohol Policy , all packages are subject to a gratuity charge, inclusive of the Unlimited Open Bar Package included with Free At Sea promotions. Two drinks are allowed per passenger, per order. Packages must be purchased for all guests 21+ on the same cabin or reservation (i.e. if one person in a cabin on the same reservation opts for a Premium package, both passengers are required to purchase it).

Packages may not be shared, are non-transferable and non-refundable. Packages do not include room service, mini bar purchases, vending machines, or pre-cruise wine bottle purchases. Packages can be used in onboard restaurants, lounges, bars and Great Stirrup Cay, though not on Harvest Caye , nor sailings that are two days or less.

Is the Norwegian Cruise Line Drink Package Worth It?

No doubt Norwegian's Free At Sea promotion is an attractive offering as it includes the Unlimited Open Bar Package. Coffee lovers can still add on the Unlimited Starbucks Package to have the best of both offerings.

For those without the promotional fare, a drinks package on Norwegian Cruise Line is still a great idea when planning to drink more than a handful of alcoholic beverages each day. Otherwise NCL's craft cocktails can easily add up when purchased individually.

Oceania Wine Tasting Experience (Photo: Oceania Cruises)

Oceania Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Oceania Drink Package Details : Oceania Cruises offers two primary beverage package options. House Select, which includes unlimited Champagne, wine and beer with dinner and lunch.

The second package, Prestige Select, includes unlimited spirits, beer, wine and Champagne in bars and restaurants, anytime and anywhere during the sailing. Both packages entitle the purchaser to 20 percent off wine-pairing dinners at La Reserve , available aboard Marina , Riviera and Vista .

For light drinkers, note that Oceania cruise deals already include items like soft drinks, bottled water and specialty coffees within base cruise fares.

Guests booking Oceania's "simply MORE" package rate inclusive of airfare and airport transfers will have the House Select beverage program automatically included, along with shore excursion credits and unlimited Wi-Fi.

Those booking the Oceania's ongoing "OLife Choice" promotional fares can choose a complimentary House Select beverage package as part of the deal.

Oceania also has a Wine by the Bottle package of seven bottles, with selections available from a specific list varying by ship and voyage. Gratuities are included in the seven-bottle package.

Fine Print : Package prices include gratuities and can be pre-booked online or through a reservations representative. They can also be purchased onboard at any time during the cruise with prices prorated for days remaining. Guests can upgrade from the House Select to Prestige Select during the voyage, but you can't downgrade. Refunds aren't permitted on any package.

Is the Oceania Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

Many Oceania cruisers will find the House Select option suitable as it allows for a selection of beverages during meal service. When an itinerary has several sea days, though, cruisers may prefer the flexibility of enjoying drinks anytime, anywhere with the Prestige Select package.

Coral Princess (Photo: Princess Cruises)

Princess Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

In addition, a private Woodford Reserve Bourbon Selection is included, along with a personalized Jack Daniel's Whiskey Single Barrel Select program.

Passengers can save more than 50 percent on drink packages when purchased in advance as a bundle with Wi-Fi and crew appreciation .

Princess Cruises also offers a Zero Alcohol Package, inclusive of specialty coffees, fresh juices and smoothies, mocktails, bottled water, sodas and energy drinks. Meanwhile, the Classic Soda Package includes all sodas, fruit juices, mocktails and smoothies, without the buzz of energy drinks or specialty coffees.

Fine Print : A service charge is added to all packages excluding Australian-based vessels, which includes the service charge within its pricing. All passengers in a single stateroom must purchase the package and a package must be purchased for the entire cruise duration.

Packages may be pre-purchased at least four days prior to boarding the vessel. Otherwise, beverage packages are only available to purchase onboard on embarkation day. Alcoholic drinks are limited to 15 beverages per 24-hour period, but nonalcoholic beverages are unlimited.

Is the Princess Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

When considering the cost of a beverage package on Princess, be sure to account for any nonalcoholic drinks you will likely consume, including sodas and specialty coffees. With the unlimited offering of these beverages, many guests will find the Princess Plus Beverage Package provides excellent value for their voyage.

Royal Caribbean International Alcohol Policy (Photo: Cruise Critic)

Royal Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Royal Drink Package Details : Drink packages on Royal Caribbean range from an unlimited option with the Deluxe Beverage Package to three nonalcoholic packages. Packages are valid for use when visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay or the private beach resort of Labadee .

The most popular package, considering individual Royal Caribbean drink prices, is the all-inclusive Deluxe Beverage Package. This option includes cocktails, spirits, beer and wine by the glass, along with mocktails, premium coffees and teas, still and sparkling water, fresh-squeezed juices and Coca-Cola beverages. This Deluxe Royal Caribbean drink package also includes discounts on bottled wines.

Nonalcoholic Royal Caribbean drink package options include a Refreshment Package, inclusive of mocktails, premium coffees and teas, still and sparkling water, fresh-squeezed juices and Coca-Cola beverages.

Less inclusive is the Classic Soda Package which is restricted to an unlimited offering of Coca-Cola Freestyle beverages and fountain sodas. For those only interested in bottled waters, the Water Package delivers six-, 12- or 24-packs of water to your stateroom.

Fine Print : Drink packages available with Royal Caribbean deals do not include room service, mini bar items or beverages served inside licensed Starbucks stores aboard Royal Caribbean ships.

If one person in a cabin purchases a package, all others in the cabin aged 21 and over must purchase a package. Package users may only order one item at a time for individual consumption. No sharing is permitted.

Is the Royal Caribbean Drink Package Worth It?

When deciding on a package option, first consider how much are drinks on Royal Caribbean when purchased individually and what you expect to consume once onboard.

Most passengers will find the all-inclusive Deluxe Beverage Package a valuable option as it covers alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages alike. Debating visiting Labadee vs. CocoCay , Royal Caribbean's private islands? Your drink package is valid at both destinations.

Viking Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Viking Drink Package Details : A sailing on any Viking Ocean Cruises ship includes soft drinks, beer and a rotating selection of house wines by the glass at lunch and dinner, plus specialty coffees and teas around the clock. Spirits, cocktails and premium wines cost extra.

Across all Viking Ocean cruise deals , passengers can upgrade to the Silver Spirits beverage package to include premium wines by the glass, cocktails, liquors and well drinks, house wines and champagne by the glass, beer and soft drinks throughout the day.

Fine Print : The Silver Spirits package may be purchased prior to sailing or upon boarding. All adults sharing a stateroom must purchase the package for the full duration of the cruise. Per the Viking Ocean Cruises Alcohol Policy , there is no corkage fee when guests bring their own wine or liquor onboard at embarkation time.

Is the Viking Ocean Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

Many guests aboard Viking Ocean Cruises will find the complimentary beverages offered during lunch and dinner provide enough variety during an itinerary. Since Viking guests may also bring their own bottled beverages of choice onboard without a corkage fee, only those seeking greater variety throughout the sailing opt for the Silver Spirits package upgrade.

Photo of Pink Agave restaurant and bar area on Scarlet Lady

Virgin Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Virgin Drink Package Details : Virgin Voyages has a different approach to onboard beverages. Essential drinks are always included, which Virgin Voyages considers to be still and sparkling water, fountain sodas, non-pressed juices and a range of coffee and tea selections.

For alcoholic beverages, specialty coffees and other premium nonalcoholic drinks, guests may purchase drinks a la carte or buy a Bar Tab to cover drinks. In all cases, crew gratuities are already included so the price guests see is the price they pay.

The Bar Tab is available to purchase prior to boarding and acts as a prepaid onboard credit specifically redeemable for drinks. The Bar Tab can be used anywhere on the ship and at The Beach Club at Bimini .

Virgin Voyages strives to offer drinks for every budget so a la carte purchases won't have a great deal of sticker shock. Those purchasing a prepaid Bar Tab won't save money on individual beverages, though Virgin often offers a promotional onboard credit as a thank you to those selecting a Bar Tab.

Perhaps you've considered Virgin Voyages' Rockstar suites ? When it comes to drink options, these suites include a bottomless in-room bar and a daily Bar Tab for use throughout the ship.

Fine Print : There are no restrictions on pre-purchasing a Virgin Voyages Bar Tab. Guests may cover premium drinks for themselves or fellow cruisers, and the cruise line does not require everyone sharing a room to purchase a Bar Tab just because one guest has opted to do so. The only caveat is that the Bar Tab is non-refundable once the voyage starts.

Is the Virgin Voyages Bar Tab Worth It?

Guests sailing with friends will likely find the prepaid Bar Tab worth it, as it is shareable and valid throughout the ship and at the Bimini Beach Club. Solo sailors will likely find purchasing beverages a la carte to be a better budgetary option.

Windstar Cruises Alcohol Policy (Photo: IvanZivkovic/Shutterstock)

Windstar Ships with Drinks Packages : Fleetwide

Windstar Drink Package Details : Windstar always offers bottled water, sodas, specialty coffees, mocktails and juices within the base cruise fare. Alcoholic beverages may be purchased a la carte or as part of Windstar's all-inclusive cruise deals , which bundles Wi-Fi and gratuities with an Unlimited Beverage Package for one set price.

The Unlimited Beverage Package includes all domestic and imported beer, more than 30 varieties of wine and sparkling wine, cordials and cocktails, along with mini-bar items.

When not bundled with an all-inclusive fare, Windstar offers two other beverage programs. The Topmast Discoveries Beer & Wine Package includes domestic and imported beer along with more than 30 varieties of wine by the glass.

The Captain's Exclusive Beverage Package includes the same beer and wine offerings with the addition of Champagne by the glass, cordials, cocktails and mini bar selections.

Per Windstar Cruises' Alcohol Policy , during embarkation, passengers may also bring two personal bottles of wine or Champagne per cabin for seven-day cruises or three bottles for sailings of eight days or more. A corkage fee applies to personal bottles consumed in public areas of the ship.

Fine Print : All-inclusive packages must be booked at least five days prior to embarkation. The Topmast, Captain’s Exclusive and All-In Packages are sold per person and must be purchased in advance or during the first two days of your cruise and for the full duration of the cruise.

Prices do not include the standard beverage service charge, though prices are inclusive of applicable taxes. The minimum drinking age aboard Windstar Cruises is 21 years old.

Is the Windstar Cruises Drink Package Worth It?

Passengers sailing Windstar Cruises tend to favor the all-inclusive approach so all drinks, service charges and Wi-Fi is bundled into the pre-cruise fare. Light drinkers may prefer an a la carte approach if their primary beverage choices are mocktails and specialty coffees, which are always included in the base fare.

costa cruises drink packages

Hello everyone! Today we are going to talk about Costa Cruises’ beverage packages .

I don’t know how many of you have traveled or plan to travel with Costa.

It is a company intended mainly for the Italian market , so it might interest someone who wants to take a cruise to discover Europe .

I have often traveled with them since I am Italian, so I am very familiar with their drink packages .

Below you will find the list of all the packages, the drinks they include, and the 2024 updated prices .

Table of Contents

The types of drink packages you can find on Costa Cruises

Costa Cruises ship logo

The first thing I want to say is that on Costa Cruises you can find two types of packages :

  • Packages that have unlimited drinks (My Drinks, My Drinks Plus and My Meals)
  • Packages that have a maximum number of drinks (usually 20 or 40)

Of course, we’re gonna talk about all of them. Read the article carefully and to the end, because there are so many different packages and it is easy to get confused .

Unlimited drink packages

Let’s start first with the unlimited drink packages . As the name says, with this packages you can order as many drinks as you want .

The only thing to note is that they have a fixed price per day, and cannot be shared.

Costa Cruises Drinks

My Drinks is the basic unlimited package. It also includes some alcoholic drinks but only the classic ones.

In particular, this package includes:

  • Water by the glass (and half-liter bottle per person per day)
  • Hot drinks (coffee, cappuccino, chocolate, tea)
  • Soft drinks (Pepsi, 7UP, orange juice and iced tea)
  • Non-alcoholic fruit drinks
  • Aperol Spritz and crodino
  • Classic cocktails (gin and tonic, mojito, etc…)
  • Brandy, whiskey, cognac and bitters
  • Unlimited drinks during meals (water, soft drinks, wine, and draft beer)

What is the price for the My Drinks package?

It costs €31.50 per day per person if purchased with the cruise. If you buy it on board, the price goes up to €42 per day.

A thing that I love is that this package is free for those under 18 if purchased while booking the cruise . On the contrary, if you buy it on board it will cost €18 per day for every child.

My Drinks Plus

Costa Premium Cocktail

If you want a package that also includes premium drinks and a wider choice of brands , you can choose My Drinks Plus .

This package includes:

In addition to the previous package, you can also order:

  • Unlimited bottles of water
  • Beer in bottles (Corona or Beck’s)
  • Fruit juices
  • Molecular and premium cocktails
  • Bitter, distilled spirits, and liqueurs from prestigious brands
  • Minibar drinks

What is the price for the My Drinks Plus package?

It costs €46 per day per person if purchased with the cruise. If you buy it on board, the price goes up to €47 per day.

As with the previous one, this package is also free for those under the age of 18 if it is purchased together with the cruise. Otherwise, the price is €18 per day.

The My Meals package allows you to order drinks during the 3 main meals of the day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The included drinks in this case are:

  • Still or sparkling water
  • Soft drinks
  • A selection of white, red, and rose wines
  • Hot drinks: espresso, American, decaffeinated coffee, cappuccino, milk.

Of course, in this case, drinks can only be ordered and consumed at the main restaurants or buffet . Only hot drinks can also be ordered at the bars.

Packages with limited drinks

Costa Cruises also has packages that offer a limited number of drinks .

It means that you will pay a fixed price and can order only a certain number of drinks.

One interesting thing is that these packages already include service charges . Whereas, if you buy individual drinks, you have to add 15% to the price you see on the menu.

Water Package

As a first option, you can purchase a water package .

This is a rather attractive option because no tap water is served on Costa Cruises in the restaurants. Therefore, when you have lunch or dinner you must buy bottled water.

Tap water is only available at the buffet and you can get it through the dispensers you see in the photo below.

Tap water dispenser on Costa Cruises

This package includes 13 bottles of water (1 liter each) that you can request at any time during your cruise.

The price of the water package is €42 for 13 bottles . I have done the math for you, you will save about 17%.

Beer Package

Costa Cruises also has a beer package. It includes 20 draft Heineken’s of 40 cl each .

The price of the beer package is €105 , and again you will save about 17%.

Everything to Know About Alcohol & Drinks on a Cruise (Costs, Rules, & More)

For many people, it’s not a cruise unless they are enjoying themselves with a drink in their hand. After all, what’s more relaxing than hanging out poolside with a cold beer or tasty cocktail?

Mojito on a cruise

Of course, cruise lines are happy to help. Bars are everywhere on a cruise ship, and the alcohol flows freely. But it’s certainly not free. Drinks are big business on a cruise.

So how much will you pay for a drink? What sort of beverages are available? Who can buy a beer or cocktail? These are just a few questions you might have about enjoying alcohol on a cruise. We answer them all (plus roughly a dozen more) for you below.

In This Article...

How much does beer cost on a cruise?

Looking for a brew? Cruise ships will have tons of options, including some like Carnival that even brew their own beer to sell. But if it’s a large, nationally known beer, it’s likely to be on the ship… along with some other options like local beers. Norwegian Cruise Line even has some ships with dozens of beers on tap.

In general, expect prices to be in the $7-9 range, before gratuity. With gratuity, expect to spend about $8-10.50 per beer.

As an example, below is a list of prices and beers from a recent Royal Caribbean cruise. Keep in mind these prices are before gratuity is added on.

  • Amstel Light $7.49
  • Blue Moon $7.49
  • Bud Light $7.49
  • Budweiser $7.49
  • Coors Light $7.49
  • Corona $7.49
  • Dos Equis $7.49
  • Daura Damm $7.49
  • Heineken $7.49
  • Michelob Ultra $7.49
  • Miller Light $7.49
  • Paulaner Weiss $7.49
  • Stella Artois $7.49
  • Red Stripe (473 ml) $7.99
  • Foster’s Oil Can (750 ml) $9.50

Other cruise lines might have prices that are slightly higher or lower but this is a good ballpark. As well, options will vary by cruise line and even from bar to bar on some ships.

How much do cocktails cost on the ship?

Hurricane fish bowl

Perhaps nothing is as iconic on a cruise ship as sipping a delicious cocktail with an umbrella in it. And cruise lines are happy to oblige. Not only can you get classics like Rum Runners, Margaritas, and Mai Tais, but cruise lines are constantly introducing unique cocktails that you won’t find anywhere else.

In other words, even if you aren’t a big cocktail drinker, there’s likely to be something that you’ll want to sip.

The downside? You definitely have to pay for it. Prices for cocktails on cruise ships usually run about $10-14 per drink, before gratuity . So expect to spend about $12 to $16.50 per beverage when gratuity is added.

Here is a sample menu from a recent Carnival cruise to give you an idea of what’s offered. Just like different restaurants, different bars on the ship will have different drink options:

costa cruise alcohol

What should I know about drink packages?

As you can see, the price of alcohol on the ship can be expensive. If you’re looking to save money, the cruise line offer drink packages. These packages offer up all you want for one price. So, for example, a cruise line like Carnival will charge about $55 per day for a package, and for that amount you can simply grab a drink when you’re ready.

Drink packages can be a considerable cost, but make the budgeting much easier.

Before you buy a package, however, there are lots of things to know. For example, if one adult in the cabin buys the package, then all adults normally have to purchase it as well. And if you purchase, you have to buy the package for every day of the cruise.

For a full breakdown, read our guide to cruise line drink packages here .

Is gratuity included on drinks?

Royal Caribbean Bionic Bar

If you have a drink package, then you don’t have to worry about gratuity being added when you get something from a bar. The gratuity is instead added onto the daily cost of the package. So a $70 per day drink package will have an 18-20% gratuity charge (the amount varies by cruise line) and actually costs you closer to $85 per day. But when you get a drink, you won’t see any additional charges, for the drink or gratuity.

However, if purchasing a drink without the package, then you will be charged an additional gratuity on the menu price . As just mentioned, this amount varies by cruise line but is normally 18-20%.

So a $10 drink on the menu will actually end up being about $12. An $8 beer would be closer to $10.

One thing to know is that while this gratuity is charged automatically, when you sign the receipt you’ll see a line for an additional tip. You aren’t required or expected to add more unless you want to do so.

What’s the drinking age on a cruise ship?

With cruise ships there are some unique situations that you don’t find with other vacations. For instance, while docked in a country, the ship is bound to the laws of that nation. But when outside their waters, they are not. And then, a ship might visit three or four different countries with different laws during the same cruise.

To keep things simple, ships sailing from the United States have a drinking age of 21 years old . Ships sailing from points in Europe, Asia, and Australia typically have a drinking age of 18 years old.

But local laws in places your ship will visit might have different drinking ages. In some cases, it may be legal for someone to drink in port, but not allowed on the cruise ship. For instance, Mexico and The Bahamas have an 18 year drinking age, but ships departing the United States have a 21 year age minimum.

For more on cruises and drinking ages, you can see our article here .

How do I buy drinks on the ship?

costa cruise alcohol

Put that wallet away. To buy drinks on the ship you don’t need cash or a credit card. In most cases you simply hand over your room keycard, which acts as a charge card for your onboard account. (Sometimes you simply give your room number and the staff charges your account that way.)

Once charged, you’ll be presented a receipt to sign for your drink.

Have a drink package? Don’t worry, the bar staff will know when your card is swiped that you have the package. You won’t be charged for the beverage.

Is there a limit to how much I can drink?

There are no set limits on how much you can drink. One exception is that Carnival does limit those with drink packages to 15 alcoholic beverages per day. (It’s not clear if that limit applies to those without the package.)

Still, for the most part you aren’t under any clearly defined limit. That said, don’t expect to continue to be served if you are showing signs of dangerous levels of intoxication. The cruise lines want you to relax, enjoy yourself, and have a good time, but not at the expense of your health or the well-being of other passengers.

What brands of alcohol are available?

There is seemingly an endless number of options when it comes to alcohol brands on a cruise ship. In fact, there are bound to be brands you’ve never tasted or even heard of before, in addition to well-known names.

So will your favorite brand of beer, wine, or liquor be served? That depends.

If your favorite is a popular brand with national presence, then you can expect it to be on the ship. If it’s a lesser-known or regional brand, then the chances are much lower.

For instance, if you’re from Texas then Shiner Bock is a well-known beer brand and served just about anywhere in the state… but not nationally. We have yet to see the brand on a cruise ship unless sailing from Texas.

Major brands of alcohol like Tito’s, Jack Daniel’s, Crown Royal, Maker’s Mark are all widely available. In addition, you will definitely find some lesser-known options as well, but not all.

What time do the bars open and close?

“Cruise time” is a little different from regular time. So if you’re wanting a drink in the morning, that’s no issue. Individual bar schedules will vary, but apart from very late night/early morning (e.g. 3-8 a.m.) you should be able to find somewhere serving, though it may only be one or two spots.

For instance, below is the bar schedule for MSC during a recent cruise:

costa cruise alcohol

Can I take my drink anywhere around the ship?

Yes. At first it can seem a little weird walking from a restaurant to the casino to the pool all while carrying a drink in your hand. For those of us used to laws surrounding public display of open containers, it feels unnatural. On a cruise ship, it’s completely ok and commonplace.

Drinks can be taken with you anywhere around the ship. So grab a drink and head to a show, dinner, the pool, casino, or just back to the cabin.

Can I order two drinks/doubles?

Sure, although some lines have rules if you have the drink package. If you don’t have the package, then it’s not a big deal to order multiple drinks at once. In fact, cruise lines often have beer buckets that you can purchase that have 4-6 beers.

Want a drink for you and a friend? Want a double? Just order it, it’s no issue at all.

If you have the drink package, however, then things get a little more complicated. Since these packages are for individuals and not meant to be shared, there are rules that limit the ability to order multiple drinks. For example, Carnival’s package doesn’t allow double shots and you can only purchase one drink at a time, with a five-minute waiting period between drinks.

Is There a Mini-Bar in the Cabin?

Often, but not always. Every cabin will have a small refrigerator, which often doubles as a mini-bar with a number of beers, liquors, sodas, and waters. (We have been on cruises where the refrigerator is empty.)

Want something to drink? Help yourself, but just know you’ll be charged. The menu prices are typically posted on the fridge or nearby. Even if you have a drink package, mini-bar items are excluded.

Can I bring alcohol onboard?

You can’t bring most alcohol onto the ship for drinking during your cruise. So if you wanted to bring a bottle of rum or a 12-pack of beer from home to enjoy while sailing, that’s not allowed. Cruise lines expect you to purchase their bar offerings. They do, however allow you to bring on a bottle of wine or champagne.

If you are in port and find a bottle of something that you want, then you can also buy it and bring it home with you. So if you visit Mexico and pick up a bottle of tequila, you can bring it back with you as you board the ship.

The difference? When you return to the ship the bottle will be taken from you and placed in storage. It will then be returned to you the last night of the cruise to take home. So don’t think you’re going to be able to enjoy it while sailing.

One other thing to note is that some lines — including Carnival and Royal Caribbean — do allow you to bring on some non-alcoholic beverages like sodas and waters. You can find more details here .

Can I buy duty-free alcohol on the ship to mix drinks?

Duty free bottles

Step on a cruise ship (or head out into port), and you’ll see lots of opportunity for duty-free shopping. Cigarettes and alcohol are the big sellers, and the prices are good for what’s offered.

You might have the idea to bring on mixers and then buy a bottle from the duty-free shop to enjoy on your cruise. Unfortunately, that’s not allowed.

When buying from a duty-free shop, your bottles will be packaged and then stored by the staff until the last day of your cruise. They will then be delivered to your cabin on the last night to take with you as you get off the ship.

What happens if I sneak alcohol onto a cruise?

Given the price of drinks on the ship, you wouldn’t be alone in wondering about sneaking drinks on with you in your luggage as you board.

It’s relatively common that people try this trick. In fact, when boarding you’ll likely find several people having bottles of liquid being closely examined by the security staff during boarding.

In other words, security is on the lookout for smuggled booze. If found, expect it to be removed and likely destroyed. If put it in your checked luggage, you might be called down to retrieve your bag.

The terms and conditions of sailing may give the cruise line the right to not allow you to board if found trying to sneak on alcohol, however, we’ve personally never heard of that happening.

Still, it could lead to some awkward conversations — and losing your alcohol — should you be caught trying to sneak it onto the ship.

How can I save money on drinks?

There’s no question that it can be expensive to drink on a cruise ship. But there are ways that you can drink for less money. Here are a few tips:

Drink in port instead: Ports of call offer a chance to save money on drinks. Many areas near where the ship docks will have cheap(er) drink specials designed to attract the business of cruise passengers. By heading off the ship you can save money versus drinking on the ship.

Look for sales: If you do plan to drink on the ship, be sure to keep an eye out for drink specials. They will often be mentioned in the daily planner that’s delivered to your room each night. Maybe it’s a happy hour at a certain bar or certain drinks that have a discount.

Do the math on drink packages: If you’re a big drinker, then drink packages can save you tons. These packages are also expensive, so if you don’t get your money’s worth, then you could end up spending more than you would otherwise. To help you do the math before buying, check out our drink package calculator here .

Can—Or Should—You Bring Booze on a Cruise?

We asked a travel expert whether or not stocking up on booze ahead of your cruise trip is allowed..

cocktails on the upper deck of a cruise

Much like the idea of sipping a chilled, tiny umbrella-equipped cocktail on a remote beach , enjoying a refreshing alcoholic bev on a large boat's deck is the synonym of a dreamy and relaxing vacation. What could be so bad?

The good news is that you don't need to own a large yacht or know rich yacht-owning people to drink your buzzy drink in peace on a boat. There are cruises for that, many of which are equipped with gorgeous cocktail bars on their outdoor areas.

But we get it. Sometimes—especially if you're not on an all-inclusive cruise —the idea of spending good money for a cocktail is a little unnerving, and you might start wondering whether it wouldn't just be easier if you made the cocktail yourself. After all, a cruise ship is basically your own floating house for a week, right?

To help you figure out whether or not you can bring alcohol on cruises (and to help you potentially save a few bucks), we asked a travel expert to elaborate on the matter. Here's what they said.

Can you bring alcohol on a cruise?

Everybody, rejoice: The short answer is yes, you can bring alcohol on a cruise. However, there are some restrictions and things to keep in mind, as it may not be as easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy as you'd think.

"Generally yes, you are allowed to bring alcoholic beverages, but there are typically strict limits, and it varies by cruise line," Daniel Burnham, flight and travel expert at Going.com, tells Thrillist. "Typically, passengers are allowed to present one to two bottles of still or sparkling wine, and potentially a six-pack of beer on the day you depart for personal consumption. However, in general, spirits are not allowed at all."

But what if you want to bring back some local liquor from an excursion, you ask? As Burnham explains, cruise lines usually have a rule for that, too. "Those bottles will usually be stored for you aboard the ship," he says. "But you may not be allowed access to them until departing the ship for good."

Royal Caribbean follows these exact guidelines. "On embarkation day, each guest of drinking age may bring one sealed 750 ml bottle of wine or champagne," reads the cruise line's website . "Guests who purchase alcohol bottles onboard, in a port-of-call, or bring more than the one permitted bottle on boarding day, will have their items safely stored by the ship. These bottles will be returned on the last day onboard for enjoyment once home."

You should also beware of some nasty hidden fees that may apply if you choose to drink your own alcohol on the ship's property.

"Corkage fees for consuming drinks in an on-board restaurant or even in your room on some ships can be applied," says Burnham.

Corkage fees are notoriously pretty high. Carnival Cruise Line, for example, charges $15 if you want to drink your bottle of wine in a few selected areas, including "the main dining room, specialty restaurant, or bar," according to  Carnival's rules .

For this reason, it's always worth checking how much those corkage fees would amount to and consider whether by bringing in your own alcohol you aren't, in fact, spending more than you would by buying alcohol directly on the cruise.

It is important to note that alcohol-related rules and regulations vary depending on the cruise line, and they may differ depending on a variety of factors. It is always best to check in directly with the cruise line itself ahead of your trip to ensure a seamless travel experience.

Costa Serena to explore Japan and Southeast Asia in 2025-2026 season

CruiseMapper logo

Costa Cruises introduced significant innovation for winter 2025-2026, unveiling 2 new itineraries dedicated entirely to Asia.

Beyond its traditional routes in the Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Caribbean, Arab Emirates, South America, and Around the World cruises, from November 2025 to January 2026, the Italian company will offer voyages to some of Asia’s most picturesque destinations aboard the Costa Serena . These itineraries will be facilitated by the ‘fly & cruise’ formula, enabling guests to fly from major European cities to embark on their cruises.

The first itinerary focuses on Japan, offering a 15-day journey through the Orient. Guests will explore Japan's rich ceremonial traditions, golden temples, and serene Zen gardens, with stops in modern cities. The complete itinerary includes Hong Kong , Keelung (Taiwan) , Naha (Japan) , Kagoshima (Japan) , Tokyo (Japan) , Kobe (Japan) , Nagasaki (Japan) , Busan (South Korea) , and back to Hong Kong.

The second itinerary provides an immersion in Southeast Asia. This 15-day voyage takes guests from Vietnam’s expansive fields to Thailand’s temples and beaches, the futuristic skyline of Singapore , and the lush nature of the Philippines and Brunei. Stops include Hong Kong, Nha Trang (Vietnam) , Phu My (Vietnam), Koh Samui (Thailand) , Singapore, Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei) with a 12-hour stopover, Puerto Princesa, Palawan (Philippines) , and back to Hong Kong.

These Japan cruises will be available from November 21, 2025, to January 30, 2026, with embarkations from Hong Kong and Tokyo. They will alternate with the Southeast Asia itineraries, which offer embarkations from Hong Kong and Singapore. Guests can combine both itineraries into a single 28-night holiday, covering all 14 destinations. This option is ideal for celebrating the end of 2025 and the New Year . There will also be opportunities to extend stays in destinations by choosing preferred flight dates independent of the cruise schedule.

For those with limited time, it is possible to purchase just one week of either itinerary.

Before embarking on these new Asian cruises, the Costa Serena will undergo significant renovations to enhance the onboard experience.

Norwegian, Carnival and more cruise lines change itineraries due to Hurricane Beryl

As Hurricane Beryl moves across the Caribbean, a number of cruise lines have changed itineraries in the area in an effort to avoid the storm.

▶ Norwegian Cruise Line altered nearly the entire itinerary for a week-long sailing on its Norwegian Breakaway ship that departed from Miami, Florida, on Sunday. The line canceled stops in Honduras, Harvest Caye in Belize, and Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, according to a letter sent to guests that the line shared with USA TODAY. The ship will instead visit Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas instead.

“While we share your disappointment, these modifications were made with great consideration as your safety, and that of our crew, is always our number one priority,” the letter said.

The line similarly changed a week-long sailing aboard Norwegian Jade that left Port Canaveral on Saturday, replacing planned calls in Falmouth, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel with San Juan, Puerto Rico, Tortola and Puerto Plata.

Was your cruise itinerary changed? Here's what to do next

▶ Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Liberty ship moved a planned Friday stop in Cozumel up to Tuesday. The vessel departed on a week-long cruise from New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday, according to CruiseMapper .

Carnival Horizon, which is sailing a six-day itinerary that left Miami on Sunday, will skip a visit to Grand Cayman on Wednesday.

“The safety of our guests and crew is paramount, and we are continuing to monitor forecasts and factor in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and the local port authorities to provide timely updates to our guests as more information becomes available,” spokesperson Matt Lupoli said in an emailed statement.

▶ Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy ship – which set sail on a week-long cruise from Port Canaveral on Saturday – will not visit Falmouth as planned on Wednesday. The stop will be replaced with a sea day .

The center of the storm is expected to “move quickly across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea today,” passing near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands the following day, the National Hurricane Center said.

Brazil rue tactical caution in Copa América opener

Alejandro Moreno breaks down Vini Jr.'s disappointing display against Costa Rica in the Copa América. (2:27)

costa cruise alcohol

Brazil 's young forward line went into this Copa América facing a big question: How would they cope against cautious opponents who defend deep and deny them the space to launch the counter attack?

The reign of coach Dorival Junior got off to an impressive start back in March with a win away to England and an exciting 3-3 draw with Spain . But these were wildly untypical of most of the matches that Brazil play -- and especially different from Dorival's competitive debut against Costa Rica . In front of their own fans, England and Spain pushed forward. Brazil could sit back and choose the moment to spring forward. This was clearly not going to happen against Costa Rica.

Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro is an excellent organiser of a defensive unit. His Costa Rica were clearly going to take few chances, and they counted on an important ally -- the size of the Inglewood pitch.

The playing surfaces used in this Copa are smaller than those for usual FIFA tournaments. This subject has become something of a Brazilian obsession in the tournament build up, since their obvious conclusion is that the smaller the pitch, the harder it becomes for them to play their way through the opposition.

The game against Costa Rica, then, had Brazil trapped in a private nightmare. They were expected to roll over their CONCACAF rivals with ease. Chances came and went. There were penalty appeals. Marquinhos had the ball in the net, only to have the goal ruled out for a narrow offside. Up in the stands, Neymar watched in increasing frustration as chances were spurned. Some of that frustration was felt on the field. Brazil were occasionally petulant, sometimes rushed. There was a lack, for example, of the calm quality with which, earlier in the day, James Rodríguez had set up Colombia 's opening goal against Paraguay .

This time not even the introduction of teenage supersub Endrick could save the day. And so Dorival Junior's first competitive game in charge of Brazil ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw, and Costa Rica, who posed no threat throughout the game, celebrated wildly at the final whistle.

How much blame should be laid at the door of Dorival?

On another day, the same level of performance would have brought about a comfortable win. But there were problems -- the most obvious in the team selection. Against such defensive opponents, did Brazil really need both Bruno Guimarães and João Gomes in the centre of midfield?

João Gomes was wonderful at Wembley, making his international debut in March, when he snapped into tackles and kept the English at bay. Here he was probably superfluous. Centre backs such as Marquinhos and Éder Militão hardly required the level of protection that he supplies. It was striking that he was removed only inside the final 10 minutes, because the solution is so obvious; drop Lucas Paquetá to the central midfield role that he has often played for Brazil.

Paquetá is at his best playing front to goal, where he is best able to distribute the play. Further forward in this type of games, there is the added problem of Paquetá and Rodrygo competing for the same space. Dorival Junior, then, can expect the first heavy bombardment of criticism in his time as Brazil coach, both for having selected a team that was too cautious and then for waiting too long to change the balance.

Rodrygo, though, was probably the brightest spark of the performance. For years Brazil have harboured massive hopes of the mobile, intelligent and talented Real Madrid attacker, and he consistently found different ways to trouble the Costa Rica defence. His club partnership with Vinícius Júnior , though, did not really fire. It was a disappointing night for Vinicius, who gave way to Endrick with just over 20 minutes remaining. This is his first tournament as Brazil's senior attacker, but the one-against-one skills were not on show against the Costa Ricans, who managed to avoid defeat to Brazil for the first time since beating an experimental side in the Pan-American Games of 1960.

Brazil might prefer to dwell on more recent events. In the 2016 Copa Centenario, Brazil demolished their CONCACAF opponents, cruising to a 7-1 win over Haiti . It did them little good. They failed to score against their South American group rivals, drawing 0-0 with Ecuador and losing 1-0 to Peru . Their fate in this year's group phase will also be defined by results in the matches against CONMEBOL teams. Later down the line come the dangerous Colombia. But first, Paraguay, a side whose traditional resilience proved too much for Brazil in the Copas of 2011 and 2015. Perhaps Friday's Las Vegas venue will encourage Dorival Junior to gamble on a less cautious line up.

Is your cruise or flight changing? How Hurricane Beryl is disrupting Caribbean travel

Several major cruise companies were forced to change current itineraries due to Hurricane Beryl.

Here is a rundown:

Royal Caribbean

Miami-based Royal Caribbean Group made the following changes to its itineraries:

▪ Celebrity Beyond’s June 29 sailing will swap Kralendijk, Bonaire with Oranjestad, Aruba, on July 2 and move Kralendijk, Bonaire to July 4.

▪ Icon of the Seas’ June 29 sailing will now visit Cozumel, Mexico, and Costa Maya, Mexico, instead of Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.

▪ Grandeur of the Seas’ July 1 sailing will now visit Yucatan (Progresso), Mexico on Day 4 and Cozumel, Mexico, on Day 3.

▪ Wonder of the Seas’ June 30 sailing will now have a Sea Day on Day 5 instead of visiting Roatan, Honduras, and will enjoy a visit to Nassau, Bahamas, on Day 6, instead of visiting Costa Maya, Mexico.

▪ Harmony of the Seas’ June 30 sailing will now visit Cozumel, Mexico on Day 3 and Costa Maya, Mexico on Day 4, instead of Roatan, Honduras.

Royal Caribbean said in a statement that “we are closely monitoring the progression of Hurricane Beryl and are making adjustments to some of our Caribbean sailings for the comfort and safety of our guests and crew.” It said it would notify guests and travel advisors directly of any further changes.

Norwegian Cruise Line said it changed the itineraries for two ships, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Breakaway, and sent a letter to guests.

▪ To its Norwegian Jade guests, Norwegian wrote in a Jun. 30, 2024 letter that it canceled calls to Falmouth, Jamaica, George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico. It replaced them with San Juan, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The ship is scheduled to return to Cape Canaveral on July 6.

▪ For passengers on the Breakaway , the carrier said in a June 30 letter that it had chosen to take an alternative, safer route to circumvent the path of Beryl. “Despite our best efforts, and with the weather disturbances out of control, we have canceled our calls to Roatan Bay Islands, Honduras; Harvest Caye, Belize; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.” The ship was scheduled to reach Roatan Bay Islands at 10 a.m. July 2 but was redirected to Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic. Other changes were going to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Tortola, British Virgin Islands and Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas. The ship is scheduled to return to PortMiami on July 7.

Norwegian also said that shore excursions booked through NCL for those destinations were automatically canceled and guests can expect that a “full monetary refund of the fare paid will be issued to your onboard account.’

As of 3 p.m. July 2, Carnival had changed the following itineraries:

▪ Carnival Horizon will add a visit to Nassau, The Bahamas on Friday, July 5 instead of visiting Cozumel, Mexico on Thursday, July 4. The ship’s visit to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on Wednesday, July 3 is canceled.

▪ Carnival Liberty is visiting Cozumel on Tuesday, July 2 instead of Friday, July 5.

MSC Cruises said it has not yet made any itinerary changes.

“At this time, we don’t foresee any itinerary changes for our U.S. vessels due to Hurricane Beryl if the storm maintains its projected path,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Miami International Airport

At Miami International Airport as of 5:30 .p.m Tuesday, Hurricane Beryl led to seven canceled flights: two arrivals from San Juan and Barbados and five departures to Santo Domingo, Barbados and San Juan, according to Greg Chin, communications director at the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

Still its overall percentage of on-time arrivals on July 2 was 86% and on-time departures was 78%, both well above its average.

It’s an improvement from Monday when seven arrivals and six departures were canceled. Affected islands were St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Barbados.

American Airlines issued a travel alert on Tuesday saying it would waive change fees for customers traveling through Cancun, Cozumel, Merida, and Tulum, Mexico. That’s if they are able to travel by July 10 and can make changes by July 5.

American Airlines operations in St. Vincent remain suspended due to airport closures. But the carrier has restarted operations in Barbados, St. Lucia and Grenada, according to a statement sent by airline spokesperson Gianna Urgo.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

At FLL, the hurricane’s impact was less clear. JetBlue had one flight from Santo Domingo and one from Montego Bay, and both arrived at FLL during the day. There were arrivals still scheduled from Kingston at 9:17 p.m. and Montego Bay at 9:27 p.m. Airport officials advised travelers to call their airlines for the latest information.

Meanwhile, one departure left to Montego Bay. But another one scheduled at 9:30pm was canceled.

Cruise lines changing itineraries as Hurricane Beryl charges through Caribbean

With ports on both sides of the state, Florida is a popular destination for those planning a cruise.

Those plans are being disrupted this week after Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Carriacou Island Monday as a powerful Category 4 storm with 150-mph winds.

➤  Track Hurricane Beryl

The hurricane has grown since then, and is now at Category 5 hurricane with 165-mph winds as it moves west across the Caribbean Sea . Life-threatening winds and storm surge are expected to impact Jamaica by Wednesday.

Here's what you should know if you're scheduled to take a cruise.

Cruisemapper shows few cruise ships in Caribbean as Hurricane Beryl continues westward path

There were a few cruise ships in the Caribbean Sea early Tuesday, with most only going as far south as Jamaica and most concentrated along the Mexican coast, according to cruisemapper.com.

➤ Interactive map : See the latest on cruise ship locations

A few ships were shown in Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.

Most ships were concentrated around the Bahamas and off the east coast of Florida.

Beryl is expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surge to Jamaica Wednesday as it moves quickly west across the Caribbean.

Royal Caribbean Blog announces changes to itineraries because of Hurricane Beryl

▶  Royal Caribbean had three ships in the southeastern Caribbean as of July 1 and announced it was changing cruise ship itineraries because of Hurricane Beryl, according to Royal Caribbean Blog.

Icon of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas, and Harmony of the Seas have all changed itineraries due to the hurricane, according to the website.

Royal Caribbean's newest and largest ship — Icon of the Seas — departed from Miami, June 29, days before Beryl hit the eastern Caribbean. The ship was scheduled to visit St. Maarten and St. Thomas, among other locations in the eastern Caribbean. Instead it will visit Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico. Cruisemapper.com showed the ship off Cozumel Tuesday morning.

Royal Caribbean notified passengers via email of the itinerary change intended to avoid strong winds and high waves on the sea.

Wonder of the Seas, which left Port Canaveral June 30, will skip two ports and call on Nassau, Bahamas, the blog announced. Tuesday morning, cruisemapper showed the ship between Key West and Cuba.

“We’re terribly sorry for the last-minute change caused by the weather, your safety is our top priority," the letter read.

"Please know, being onboard is one of the safest places because we are faster and can move out of the way of any inclement weather."

Norwegian Cruise Line changes stops to avoid eastern Caribbean

▶  Norwegian Cruise Line  altered nearly the entire itinerary for a week-long sailing on its Norwegian Breakaway ship that departed from Miami on Sunday. The line canceled stops in Honduras, Harvest Caye in Belize, and Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, according to a letter sent to guests the line shared with USA TODAY.

There are lots of posts regarding this subject, check through the boards for the various methods people have used to get booze on board.

The general consensus as I see it is that Costa is pretty lenient about bringing your own on board. As long as you are not trying to bring a suitcase full, they usually dont bother it. From what I have read, you can easily get away with stashing a bottle, in a large zip lock bag, (in case it breaks, they may not treat you bags as lovingly as they do the passengers) inside your checked suitcases. There is also the option of picking up a bottle or two at one of the duty-free stores in many of the ports. Some of the stores will allow you to carry the bottles back with you, others will have it sent to the ship. I have seen many posts that described passengers simply carrying thier just purchased booze onto the ship, right past the screeners who don't seem to care. In the event the store sends it to the ship, you will not get the bottle(s) until the last day of the cruise. in either case, the worst that can happen is that you will lose the bottle until the end of the cruise. I have not read anything about people getting in trouble for bringing it.

Hope this helps!

Enjoy your cruise!

I was on Carnival this past January and had no problem sneaking 2 bottles in my bags. Good tip as mentioned is to put them in zip lock bags and make sure they are well padded between clothes...funny thing is we ended up not even cracking the bottles open.

almitra

From what I've seen, it varies from cruiseline to cruiseline and from individual screener to screener---but no one takes it away NEVER to give it back--and you won't get into trouble. The worst that could happen is that they say they have to keep it til the end of the cruise. It's worth a try in my opinion cuz many people accomplish this successfully all the time! :)

50+ Club

As others have said, we've had no problems taking alcohol onto Princess Costa or NCL, however we have only had one or two items at a time, and have tried to be conspicuous. I'm positive that no one would get into trouble for 'mistakingly' bringing it onboard, after all you are a fare paying customer that they want to keep happy. At worst I think they would tell you that you would get it back at the end of the cruise - and for a security guard dealing with someone with a single item, it probably just isn't worth their while to have an arguement. On Costa Victoria 2 years ago they actually sold you v cheap alcohol from the onboard dutyfree shop and allowed you to take it back to your cabin, despite a sign saying that it would be delivered at the v end of the cruise. The person working there said that as long as you were clearly over 18 years old, then 'no problem'.

25+ Club

I put vodka in empty water bottles, then put them, 3 at a time, double bagged in ziplocks. We also go to like a walgreens and get a case of water to drink and a case of soda for mixers and just put our room tags on them...

Never had a problem
