4 Facts to Know before your Everglades Tour

The Florida Everglades is captivating with its ecosystem spanning two million acres across Central and South Florida. That's two times bigger than the state of Rhode Island. Talk about wicked big. We are so lucky to have the headwaters of the Florida Everglades right in our backyard at Wild Florida . You and your family can immerse yourself in the ecosystem on an airboat ride in the Everglades and learn all about the marshlands from our Master captains. But to give you a sneak peek, we’re going to share some of our favorite fun facts about the Florida Everglades.

Lush trees at the Wild Florida Everglades

The Florida Everglades is one-of-a-kind

Picture a place where time seems to stand still, where shimmering wetlands stretch and create a beautiful tapestry as far as the eye can see. The Florida Everglades , often referred to as the "River of Grass," is a truly enchanting wilderness that cannot be duplicated anywhere else.

In this unique ecosystem, alligators call the murky waters home, Florida panthers roam the dense forests, and a colorful array of birds can be spotted soaring through the sky. And let's not forget the stunning collectiony of plant life from the majestic mangroves to the towering cypress trees, roots are buried deep in the murky waters. An Everglades adventure tour is the best way to see this true wonder and beauty of the natural world.

The Florida Everglades receives an average of 60 inches of rain per year

Now that’s a lot of water! But this rain is important because the Everglades relies on water to maintain its delicate balance of plant and animal life. The consistent rainfall helps keep the water levels, ensuring a suitable habitat for each species.

The annual rainfall is also significant for maintaining the water supply in southern Florida. The Everglades serve as a vital source of freshwater to support the region.

Our airboats can accelerate in six inches of water so there is no need to be worried about your Everglades tour if it hasn’t rained in a while. But make sure to check the weather before your family's heads to Wild Florida. In some rare cases, we may need to reschedule your airboat tour for the safety of everyone on board.

The Florida Everglades is home to over 60 species

Just imagine the variety of sights and sounds that will surround you as you journey through this untamed paradise. From the mighty American alligators, their powerful jaws and prehistoric look capturing your attention, to the graceful white-tailed deer who roam the forested areas. Be sure to look up and you'll spot the regal bald eagle soaring high above. And let's not forget about the playful river otters with their sleek bodies gliding effortlessly through the waters. That's just a snippet of the fascinating creatures of the Everglades. On your next airboat tour, keep your eyes peeled for some of these fascinating creatures and more!

Alligators play a vital role in the Everglades ecosystem

One of the iconic symbols of the Everglades is the mighty alligator. Believe it or not, alligators are sharp-eyed creatures! Their eyes, perched on either side of their heads, offer them a panoramic view of their surroundings. They're not just spectators, though - they're hunters, looking out for the slightest movement of potential prey.

And when the Florida sun dips low, their vision doesn't falter. Thanks to a layer of cells known as the tapetum lucidum in their eyes, they have an 'eye-shine' that reflects light back into these cells. This boosts their light detection capabilities, giving them superior vision even in the dim glow of twilight.

During your Everglade boat tour, be prepared for awe-inspiring encounters with wildlife. Beyond the magnificent alligators, you may find yourself face to face with graceful herons, soaring eagles, or playful otters. The Everglades is a haven for over 350 species of birds and countless other creatures, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts.

Your wild Everglades tour begins at Wild Florida. Choose from a half-hour or one-hour airboat tour to truly immerse yourself in the beautiful surroundings. We even have discounts for our locals! We can't wait to see you on Lake Cypress!

In one minute, you’ll watch pelicans coasting across the blue waters of the 10,000-island region of the Everglades. The next minute, a dolphin springs from the water just feet away from the boat you’re riding, and an osprey dives in to catch a fish for its next meal.

The wildlife encounters here are incredible. The landscapes of the Everglades and South Florida are varied yet subtle. But where else can you find such an abundance and diversity of wildlife in America?

Wild Florida: Honest Review & Visiting Guide 2024

' src=

Planning a visit to Wild Florida?

You’ve come to the right place as I’ve visited Wild Florida multiple times during my 3 trips in total, amassing to over 3 months in the state.

Wild Florida has gone from a hidden gem to a must-visit during any trip to the Sunshine State.

Before visiting the park, you may have some questions you need answered, or are simply looking for tips and tricks.

Luckily for you, I have visited Wild Florida and I have created a r eview with everything you need to know about visiting.

So let’s get right into it.

What is Wild Florida?

Wild Florida is an animal park in Florida which has grown in recent years to be a must-visit. And for good reason. The park offers a drive-thru safari park, gator park, animal shows and encounters , and who could forget the infamous Everglades airboat tours ?

Visiting Wild Florida is the perfect day out for all the family and anyone visiting Florida should schedule it into their itinerary. There are few places in the world where you can ethically get so close to wildlife and animals like you can in Wild Florida. It’s an incredible experience.

A picture of a Bald Eagle in a tree which I saw during an airboat tour in Wild Florida.

Where is Wild Florida?

Wild Florida is located in the Everglades of Florida , hence the name “wild”. The park is closest to Kenansville in Central Florida. It’s approximately a 40-minute drive from Orlando and it’s a beautiful drive too.

You can easily get there by using a navigation system like Google Maps by typing in the name of the park, or by using the address.

The address is: 3301 Lake Cypress Rd, Kenansville, FL 34739, USA

How much does Wild Florida cost?

There are lots of different ticket options when it comes to visiting Wild Florida, so the prices depend on what you want to do at the park. Here is a brief overview of the ticket prices.

A picture of some gators in Wild Florida.

Airboat Tours

A picture of a wild alligator taken during an airboat ride.

Drive-Thru Safari Park

Animal encounters.

As you can see, there are lots of different things to see or do. I would recommend as a minimum doing either the Airboat tour or the Drive-thru safari park, as they both include free entry to the park on top of the attraction.

If you can afford it, the Ultimate Adventure Package is the best for your money. You get both the airboat and the drive-thru, entry to the gator park and FOUR animal experiences (sloth, porcupine, lemur, capybara). It’s pricey, but it’s worth it for the memories, and it’s a good discount too.

Wild Florida Review

Words can’t describe how amazing Wild Florida is. I’ve been to Florida three or four times, done Disney, Universal, Tampa, and pretty much everything the state has to offer to a British tourist looking for a typical Florida trip, and I can say with confidence that my favourite place is Wild Florida. And I mean that- I have no affiliate links in this post so it doesn’t benefit me at all to sugarcoat it.

Wild Florida is – even though it has grown massively in popularity – severely underrated. It’s such a surreal day out. Although I absolutely love animals and Wild Florida is my favourite animal park in the world, for me, nothing beats the Airboat Tours.

They’re an unforgettable experience and I would encourage anyone visiting Florida to take an Everglades Airboat tour, and there’s nowhere better than in Wild Florida. The tours here are the best alligator tours in Orlando , without a doubt.

A picture of a bird flying during my airboat tour at Wild Florida.

But everything at Wild Florida is extraordinary. The staff are really friendly and helpful too, happy to answer any questions you may have about the animals and you can tell that the park really does care for the animals and it’s an ethical park. The conservation efforts of Wild Florida are impressive too.

So to summarise my review, Wild Florida is the best park I have visited in Florida , beating Disney, Universal, Bush Gardens, Legoland, Gatorworld and more.

Wild Florida Airboat Tours

I can’t emphasise enough how much I enjoyed the airboat tour at Wild Florida. We did a one-hour tour and it remains one of the best things I have ever done, and I have swam with sea lions in Fuerteventura , paraglided over Turkey and went underground at the Colosseum.

Firstly, being on an airboat in itself is really fun. You feel like you’re in a movie as you glide over the water, through reeds and other greenery. With the wind blowing in your face and the fresh smell of the Everglades, it’s a complete sensory experience.

I got to see a wild Bald Eagle (wow!) and lots of other wild birds but the main attraction for most, myself included, is getting to see alligators in the wild. Obviously, it’s pretty easy to see alligators in Florida as they’re in pretty much any open water in the state. But being on an airboat in the water only a few metres away from an alligator is indescribable.

A picture of a wild alligator in the water a few metres away from my airboat.

As I said earlier, I would encourage anyone visiting Wild Florida to take an airboat tour. It gets you free entry into the Gator Park and you will be left with a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will tell stories about forever.

Wild Florida Drive-Thru Safari Park

Obviously, there’s nothing like a safari drive in Africa, but the Drive-thru Safari Park in Wild Florida is as close as you can get.

Driving through the safari, you get a more authentic experience compared to seeing the animals in a zoo. You get to be amongst the animals and see how they live in open terrain free to roam much more than in an enclosure.

The park is a 4-mile road spanning over 170 acres . You can start and stop as you please and take as long as you want. I would say between an hour and 90 minutes would be standard. You’ll feel like a proper explorer as you peel your eyes to spot some wildlife. Some animals might even approach your car…looking at you Mr. Ostrich!

Some giraffes and other animals in the drive thru safari.

There are lots of animals in the park, from zebras and bison to oryx and giraffes. And the giraffes you can actually stop and feed ! It’s an extra $5 per person but feeding giraffes is worth a lot more than $5. You get some incredible photos too, take a look!

A picture of me taking a selfie with a giraffe.

And like the airboat tours, entry to the Gator Park is also included, so be sure to check it out after your mini safari trip.

Wild Florida Gator Park

The Gator Park in Wild Florida is, as I’ve said throughout, my favourite animal park anywhere in the world. It’s got so so many alligators to see – and feed if you buy some food, I can’t remember exactly how much but it was only a few dollars. It’s pretty cool getting to throw the pellets into the water and seeing them race each other to snap them up.

There’s a good variety too. I remember seeing the albino alligator for the first time and just being mesmerised. I hadn’t seen one before and it was beautiful. The red eyes are the perfect contrast to the white skin.

A picture of 14 alligators in a bit of water below me.

On top of the alligators, there are plenty of other animals too. Lemurs and other monkeys, loads of reptiles and amphibians, and farm animals too. There’s a petting zoo in the Gator Park, which is perfect for those younger kids who aren’t old enough for the official animal experiences.

As is the bird aviary, it’s a huge netted area where there must be hundreds of birds flying around. You can get a lolly stick with some food on the end, inviting the birds to land on your hand and enjoy a treat . It’s another way children who are too young can get a hands-on animal experience, and it’s pretty fun for adults too. My record was 4 birds on me at once, see if you can beat it!

A picture of a bird on my hand at Wild Florida, eating food from a stick.

But overall, the Gator Park is spectacular. It would be worth visiting Wild Florida for the animal park alone. But I would still encourage the airboat tours and drive-thru safari.

Wild Florida Animal Shows

One of my favourite things about Wild Florida is the animal shows. Usually, zoos and animal parks offer lots of animal shows that are pretty disappointing and underwhelming. This is far from the case here, the shows exceeded my expectations.

The handlers know so much about the animals and are entertaining too. I’ve found at most other animal parks you either a) can’t hear them speak and the sound system is terrible or b) they are boring. Again, neither of these applies here.

A picture of the handler holding a skunk during a tour

You can watch any of the shows for free , they are included in entry to the Gator Park (including entry which was included from the airboat tour or drive-thru safari park…if you are in the Gator Park, you can watch the shows). And they are put on multiple times a day so don’t worry if you miss one.

There are three main shows: Exotic Animal Show, Gator Feeding and Crusher Show. Crusher is the celebrity alligator here and loves to perform for the crowd. The show entails a handler getting in the water with Crusher and performing tricks Steve Irwin style. Don’t worry- he isn’t forced to do anything, it’s completely ethical.

A picture of the handler getting Crusher to open his mouth

Make sure to catch all three shows during your time in the park. It would be a shame to visit and not see them. Don’t miss out!

Wild Florida Animal Encounters

Another of the biggest selling points is the animal encounters, and as you can see from the pricelist I created earlier in the post, there’s a lot to choose from!

They’re all more than worth the money and are a great way to get closer to animals of your choice and learn a good bit of information about them. Most encounters involve you feeding the animal and petting it too. But that’s pretty cool if it’s a lemur or a capybara, right? You can hold the sloths too!

If you can afford it, I really would recommend getting the Ultimate Adventure Package . You get the 4 basic animal experiences (sloth, lemur, capybara and porcupine) on top of an airboat tour and the drive-thru safari. It’s the full package basically. You get everything that Wild Florida has to offer. And it’s more than worth it. It will be the best day of your trip.

A picture of me and my brother holding a baby alligator in Wild Florida.

Wild Florida Visiting Tips

Like any attraction, there are some things that are worth knowing before visiting Wild Florida. I’ve come up with these 7 top tips to help you make the most of your day at the animal park.

✅ Book an early airboat tour: In my opinion, the earlier you get to the park the better. The crowds gather in the late morning and early afternoon, so if you can get to the park early in the morning, you can explore with fewer people around. Not to mention that the morning tours have the highest chance of seeing alligators as they spend the later parts of the day on the bottom of the lakes.

✅ You can enter Gator Park before your airboat tour: If you book an airboat tour for later in the day, you can access Gator Park before your tour as well as after. So don’t waste part of the day and wait until after to get in, make the most of your time and explore the park before your airboat tour.

✅ Bring loose change: Throughout the Gator Park, there are lots of opportunities to feed the animals. Like in the bird aviary, petting zoo, and more areas. It’s only a few dollars to buy some food so make sure you have loose change handy so you don’t miss out on the opportunity to feed the animals.

✅ Parking is free: It’s free to park at Wild Florida so you can drive to the park with no concerns about where to park.

✅ Book in advance: The airboat tours and animal encounters are extremely popular and can book out in advance. So make sure not to leave it to booking in reception and book whatever you want to do before. This especially applies in the peak season, in the summer, when things can book out days or weeks in advance.

✅ You can do the Drive-thru safari more than once: You are allowed to do the loop as many times as you wish. I would definitely recommend doing the route at least twice. You never know what you are going to see! Remember the follow the 5 mph maximum speed limit though.

✅ Make sure you have sunscreen on: This is particularly important for those doing the airboat tours. The sun reflects off the water so make sure you look after your skin. Not to mention how sunny it is. Florida is known as the “ Sunshine State ” after all, and the sun really shines at Wild Florida.

Wild Florida: FAQ

Below are some questions about visiting Wild Florida along with my answers.

Yes, Wild Florida is in the Everglades. The airboat tours take you out onto the Everglades and offer a unique experience as you fly across the water searching for wildlife among Florida’s most fascinating landscapes.

Yes, without a doubt. Wild Florida is an incredible day out and is super underrated. Whether you choose to do an airboat tour, the drive-thru safari, Gator Park or all of the above, it’s amazing. You’re guaranteed to have a good time at the park, and it’s more than worth the price.

Yes, Wild Florida is ethical. The animals are kept in good conditions, and the safari park allows the animals to live in their natural habitats, instead of in enclosures. Not to mention the park’s dedication to conservation and rehabilitation, and the efforts made to educate visitors on animal welfare.

Yes, you can. As part of the drive-thru safari, you can stop at the giraffes and feed them from an elevated platform. Note that it costs an additional $5 per person, but it’s definitely worth it. It’s an unforgettable experience for a small price.

Wild Florida is in Kenansville, Florida, but the closest big city is Orlando which is approximately 40 minutes away.

Final Thoughts: Wild Florida

And there you have it, a complete review and guide of Wild Florida.

If you are considering visiting, you 100% should. It will be one of the best days of your trip to Florida.

There are so so many things to do, and all of them are excellent. They’re so good that I feel like I haven’t been able to do the park justice with this review- it’s incredible.

So enjoy your trip to Wild Florida, but I’m sure you will! 🙂

The Miccosukee General Store and gas station location is just 1/4 of a mile west of the entrance to Shark Valley Visitors Center, which is the north entrance of Everglades National Park. So, in case the general store doesn't come up in maps (sometimes it doesn't), you can GPS Shark Valley Visitors Center as well. If you are driving from the east, just keep going a little past Shark Valley, and you'll see the general store and gas station on your right-hand side.

Reference: This general store and gas station is located just east of the Miccosukee Village, and about 20 minutes west of Miccosukee Casino, but is far away from the Miccosukee Reservation, which is way out on I-75.

Please note: The address for Shark Valley is 36000 SW 8th St. SW 8th St. is the same as Tamiami Trail or US41 out there.

Please drive safely, and within the speed limit. Please try to park on the west side of the general store and gas station area. We will show you where to park for the day after you arrive. We will meet you there between 8:30 and 8:40 a.m.

How to get the meet-up discount? You can get the meet-up discount by simply letting us know that you will be meeting us (in your reservation you make online through our site) or by giving us a call. If we take your reservation over the phone, we will put it in manually right away. If you book through our site, we will refund you for it ($20) on your credit card or in cash on the day of the tour. Meet up discount is only available for direct bookings.

Inclusions and Exclusions

INCLUDED: WE PROVIDE

  • National Park entry fee
  • A wonderful lunch (with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options)
  • All activity and boat fees
  • All gear: walking sticks, water shoes (although wearing older sneakers is a good option instead), towels, bags for wet clothes. Dry bags for guest use.
  • Sunscreen and binoculars for guest use
  • Insect repellent and ponchos for guest use, just in case
  • Water, sparkling water, and other beverages.
  • Wild Lime water bottle to keep as our gift
  • Luggage or bag storage
  • Experienced naturalist guide
  • Transportation to and from hotels, airports, and cruise ports (some restrictions apply).

NOT INCLUDED:

  • Gratuities: Tipping your guides is encouraged. It is customary, although not mandatory. Thanks for your consideration.

What should I bring?

You need to bring a change of clothes. We have bags for your wet clothes. We recommend wearing pants for the walk. Light Columbia type pants are great, but really any kind will work. We have walking sticks for you. We have towels for you too. We will have a few dry bags for the group, but if you want to bring a dry bag to carry your phone or anything else, you can as well. We have water shoes. But some prefer to simply wear old sneakers. Old sneakers are great because you know they fit your feet well! They don't get ruined; they just get wet.

How much should you tip your boat captain guides?

Typically, like $5 per person on shared tours. On a private, it's up to your discretion. Thank you.

What's a typical tip for a Wild Lime guide?

Whatever you think sounds reasonable. There is no set amount. Some guests tip like $10 or $20 per person. Tipping is customary and much appreciated. We can send you your guide's Venmo or Zelle handle upon request. Thank you for considering!

Can I get a discount through a third party seller?

No. Unfortunately, we can only provide the direct booking discount and the meet-up discount for direct bookings.

Is it a hard walk?

No, not really. There are some steps-ups and step-downs and it is a bit uneven at times, but otherwise it is flat and it is not that far of a walk. The water is quite pristine. It's not a mud slog! We call it a wet walk, not a swamp walk, for a reason.

Are there mosquitoes?

Surprisingly, many parts of the year there are not usually too many mosquitoes, if any. There can be mosquitoes though in the summer to early fall months, some years more than others. We have mosquito repellent if you need some.

What kind of clothes should I wear?

Please see the question above about what to bring for the wet walk. In general, it is typically quite warm from April through November, so light clothes are best. In the winter months, it can get surprisingly cool out there, so a light jacket or a sweater is sometimes a good idea, since it can get breezy out on the boats. Dress comfortably.

What is the minimum age requirement?

5 years old for shared tours but no minimum for private tours.

Outstanding Orlando Boat Tours (2024)

Orlando boat tours are a fantastic activity in Central Florida, no matter the type of boating adventure you choose.

Some of the suggestions below are full-day tours, and others take mere hours. But all are a great way to spend your time in order to enjoy the Sunshine State’s beautiful scenery. And that could mean a wild ride in the Everglades or sailing sunset cruises on one of the Orlando area's attractive lakes.

We are sharing the best Orlando boat tours – private and group options – including scenic pontoon boat tours, airboat rides, kayaking, canoeing, sunset sails, and even boat rentals at Walt Disney World.

Disclosure: This post has affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you click the link and proceed with a purchase at no cost to you. We recommend experiences, hotels, products, and services we use and support. As Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Book a sunset sailing tour in Orlando . It's our favorite type of boat tour, and Florida sunsets often show off for an audience!
  • Pin the image in this box or flip this post to Flipboard to save it for later.
  • See what to bring for Orlando boat tours so you are prepared to deal with the Florida bugs!

Orlando Airboat Rides

One of the things Florida is most known for is its famous airboat tours. Sign up for this fun adventure whether you’re in Fort Lauderdale or Miami, within Everglades National Park, or Orlando on Shingle Creek, on the headwaters of the Florida Everglades.

You won’t soon forget an exciting airboat ride when you visit the Orlando area, with a chance to see Bald Eagles and other endemic tropical birds, alligators, and crocodiles (maybe even a baby alligator).

Airboat rides are particularly popular amongst nature lovers. These special boats allow you to glide on the unique marshes and swampland of the Central Florida area. We thoroughly enjoyed our Florida airboat experience.

Sign up for a 90-minute fun and educational Orlando airboat tour to encounter the real Florida with experienced captains. Alternatively, secure your spot for a 1-hour sunset airboat tour and hope for one of Florida’s famous colorful sunsets.

Most airboat tours take place rain or shine. Just in case, we recommend traveling to Florida with a poncho or thin raincoat of some sort. Be sure to check in for your tour at least 30 minutes before the experience.

Orlando Boat Tour on an Airboat with Transportation

This tour includes pick up and drop off in Central Florida (including designated Disney World and Universal hotels), a BBQ lunch, a printed photo, and admission to their animal rescue Wildlife Park, where you can see birds, big cats, and reptiles.

The entire experience – from transportation to the boat ride – lasts around 7 hours, including the drive to and from the Everglades area. The Florida Everglades are approximately 45 minutes to an hour's drive each way from Orlando. Choose from a 30-minute or 60-minute airboat ride when you book your experience .

Orlando Sailing Tours

How about enjoying Orlando’s lakes with wind power? Sailing tours are the perfect way to glide on the water. And a sunset sail is incredibly romantic, to boot!

Private Morning Sail

Set sail on a 2-hour private sailing tour, starting at 10:00 am. Adventure awaits on Lake Fairview for up to four guests.

This area is just north of College Park near downtown Orlando and 15 minutes from Orlando’s Lieu Gardens. Don’t forget to bring towels if you want, though water is provided (and lakes are calm anyway, so you shouldn’t really get wet!).

Advanced reservations are required.

Private Lake Sunset Sail

Sail on Lake Fairview, approximately 10 minutes from downtown Orlando, 30-35 minutes from the Disney theme parks (including the Disney Springs area), and 25 minutes from Universal.

This 2-hour private Orlando boat tour can fit up to four people, and they allow you to bring your own snacks and beverages onboard. We recommend bringing a bottle of wine or champagne!

We recommend bringing along a wine tumbler set for your sailboat adventure!

Kayaking Tours

Connect with nature from the comfort of a kayak and get in some exercise too. Orlando boat tour options for kayaking are plentiful.

Kayak with Manatees

Head 45 minutes north of Orlando for your chance to kayak with manatees! These cute and friendly mammals are famous in the Sunshine State, where they come to enjoy the warm water for the winter.

Whether you’re a novice kayaking trying it for the first time, or an experienced pro, this tour is for you if you want to see a plethora of wildlife.

Check out this popular tour with 5-star reviews

Glass Bottom Boat Kayak Tours

If you want to see the fish below the water’s surface without snorkeling, sign up for a glass-bottom kayak tour. See through the bottom of the boat on this Orlando boat tour and have the chance to view the colorful fish and marine plant life beneath you.

Try a Rock Springs guided kayak eco-tour as you glide on the crystal-clear water for two hours. You’ll learn about the local ecosystem, stop for photos, and have the opportunity to swim in the springs. Opt to jump into the water from a rope swing for a thrill during this adventure.

You can also opt for a sunset tour in a glass-bottom kayak . Paddle through the Winter Park Chain of Lakes and canals in a peaceful setting. Your knowledgeable guide will point out interesting nature homes along the way and share some history of the area. You’ll also be able to stop for photos where you like!

This tour is likely to sell out: Reserve Now

Winter Park Evening Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour

If you want to add a fun element to your kayaking adventure, sign up for a Winter Park kayak tour at night with a glow-in-the-dark kayak. The boats are illuminated with nighttime lighting!

They will surely be a good photo opp and fun outing as the lights make the water beneath you glow.

Another great option is this Neon Night Glow Paddleboard or Clear Kayak experience on Lake Ivanhoe.

This unique boat tour allows you to see Orlando’s skyline at night as you paddle along with the help of your guides, the moonlight, and the colorful lights beneath your kayak or paddleboard.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

One of our favorite Orlando boat tours is in Winter Park. It was established in the 1930s, decades before Walt Disney World opened in Lake Buena Vista.

This pontoon boat tour starts near the well-known Park Avenue area. Set out on your scenic cruise from Lake Osceola to the Winter Park Chain of Lakes as your guide takes you through the manmade canals.

Sail past stunning homes in Winter Park, where you will have breathtaking views of the opulent private homes in the area (which is one of the reasons we enjoy the boat tour).

You will have a chance to see wonderful some of Florida’s beautiful birds, like Blue Herons and large cranes, as you travel on several lakes.

Each boat holds a maximum of 18 passengers. Be sure to bring cash or a check to buy your tickets because credit cards are not accepted. We advise purchasing tickets in the morning on weekends, even if you plan on going later in the day. It’s a very popular tour, and tickets often sell out quickly.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour is closed on Christmas Day. Otherwise, tours leave daily on the hour, starting at 10:00 am. The last tour is at 4:00 pm.

Day Trip Boat Tours from Orlando

While the Orlando boat tours listed above are within 30 minutes, on average, from Orlando, it’s worth mentioning there are more boat tour options nearby within a 2-hour drive. Here are some additional Central Florida boat tour options.

Mount Dora Lake Tours

One of our favorite destinations from Central Florida is 45 minutes north: the quaint town of Mount Dora . There’s so much to see and do there in the afternoon or morning; a boat tour is the best way to extend your trip to a whole day.

Take a 2-hour pontoon boat tour with a departure point at the historic hotel, the Lakeside Inn. Enjoy your leisurely cruise around Lake Dora and The Harris Chain of Lakes, including the famed Dora Canal.

The all-weather 25’ boats can cruise rain or shine thanks to their retractable clear covers for the sides of the boat. Choose from one of two daytime tours, or their third option to cruise during sunset.

Clearwater Beach with Dolphin Encounter Cruise

This 12-hour full-day tour begins with pick-up at 7:30 am. You’ll head west of Orlando to the popular Florida destination (Clearwater Beach), where you will take a cruise to encounter bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat.

While this means that you aren’t guaranteed to spot dolphins, your tour guide will do his or her very best to find them. You may see these beautiful mammals up close by the boat or further in the distance if they appear in the ocean. Part of the fun is the anticipation.

A one-hour dolphin tour boat ride is sandwiched between hours of free time on a Gulf Coast beach. For only $10 more, you can purchase a wristband for the boat ride that allows you to have unlimited beer, wine, and vodka punch.

Pickup and drop off are included at one of three major locations of your choice (Disney areas included). This means that all you have to do is sign up for the tour and be at that location for pick-up time.

Choose from the three pick-up locations listed below:

  • Walt Disney World area, on Epcot Resorts Blvd. (northern area of the parks)
  • Walt Disney World area, at Maingate Lakeside Resort in Kissimmee (area of the Disney World theme parks that is further south)
  • International Drive (close to Universal) at Senor Frogs

Clear Canoe Boat Tour Near Orlando at Silver Springs

This clear canoe boat tour is approximately halfway between Orlando and Gainesville at Silver Springs. The drive is approximately an hour and 45 minutes from downtown Orlando.

You’ll do a self-guided tour after the kayak company representative meets you and gives you a laminated map and some brief instructions. Paddle near Cypress Trees and see turtles, ducks, birds, and a chance to see manatees during the winter season, when they swim to Florida’s warm waters.

Dan and I often like to explore an area freely, on our own. Maybe you’re the same way! If so, this is a great tour for you in the Orlando area, as long as you can rent a car to get to the meeting point or take a taxi/Uber or Lyft there.

Orlando Boat Tours at Walt Disney World

Did you know that you can rent motorized boats at Disney World? It’s one of the best things to do at Walt Disney World, besides the parks.

Rent a Sun Tracker® Pontoon boat by the half-hour for up to 10 people. You can also opt to kayak or canoe from Fort Wilderness by the hour.

One of the most singular boat tours in Orlando, or perhaps anywhere, is an Amphicar boat tour. Be a passenger and the envy of all onlookers in a cool convertible car that drives right into the water. This experience is available at Disney Springs restaurant, The Boathouse.

Lastly, you can book a specialty cruise to see the fireworks. You don’t even have to be a hotel guest to do so! Snacks and soft drinks are included in a memorable cruise on a 25’ boat.

You can also request for a festive banner and/or balloons to be set up on the boat, which is included in the cost (request at the time of booking). It’s a great thing to do for you and your partner or up to 10 guests total, whether a proposal, anniversary treat, or family reunion.

What to Bring for Orlando Boat Tours

Florida's heat can be brutal, depending on the time of year. No matter the month, you definitely need to protect your skin from the sun. The sun in FL is strong, year-round.

Be sure to pack the following if you’ll be on the water in sunny Florida:

  • Refillable water bottle (the ice will stay intact for hours in the MiiR bottle, our favorite insulated wide-mouth bottle)
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • SPF lip balm
  • Eco-friendly bathing suit
  • Rash guard

Conclusion for Best Orlando Boat Tours

Whether you want to captain a boat yourself, row your way through Florida’s waters in a kayak, see gators on an educational airboat ride, or go on a romantic sailboat cruise around one of Central Florida’s lakes, an Orlando boat is a wonderful Florida activity.

It will connect you with nature, get you out in fresh air, and allow your body to absorb vitamin D in the Florida sunshine. Sign up for an Orlando boat tour and explore this southern state in a unique and adventurous way.

Come early!

Our park opens at 9:00 a.m. and there’s a lot to see. When traveling with a group, we recommend arriving early so you can experience everything our gator park, drive-thru safari, animal shows and encounters have to offer.

Book your excursions ahead of time

Make your travel experience a good one by planning ahead! You can purchase tickets for each of our attractions online, in-person, or by phone prior to your arrival.

Plan meal times and regroup

Lunch is a great time to rest, refuel, and regroup. You can bring in your own picnic baskets or savor some of the best barbecue and food the swamp has to offer from the Chomp House Grill. Wash it down with our Swamp Slushy – a frozen blend of mango, orange and passion fruit and you’ve got what we like to call a well-balanced meal.

We are sensitive to the diverse dietary needs and allergy concerns of our guests. Your well-being and enjoyment are of paramount importance to us, and we are committed to providing you with a safe, satisfying, and memorable experience. Please let us know about any dietary or allergy restrictions you may have, and our team will do its utmost to ensure that your needs are met.

Exotic Animal Shows at Our Gator Park

See alligators live and up close at one of our wildlife shows! Our star of the show, Crusher, is an American alligator who is over 13 feet long. You may have seen alligators in Florida, but you’ve never seen Crusher. Show times are twice a day, at 11 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.

What You’ll See on Your Wildlife Safari

You’ll see native Florida wildlife and exotic animals on your drive. Find giraffes, zebras, eland antelope, scimitar oryx, American bison, mouflon sheep and more. Our animals roam freely through natural habitats, allowing you to get up close and personal.

Precautions

It’s important to consider the weather when booking an airboat tour in Florida. During the summer months and hurricane season, afternoon rains are common. If your airboat tour is impacted by rain or storms, our team will try to contact you by the phone number or email you used to book your airboat tour.

We know you want to meet our WILD family, so we offer services that help all our guests enjoy their visit.

GUIDELINES FOR SERVICE ANIMALS

  • We welcome guests with disabilities who choose to bring their trained service animal into Wild Florida. A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for someone living with a disability. According to the ADA, service animals must be under the owner’s control at all times and should remain on a leash or in a harness. While in the Drive-thru Safari Park, your vehicle windows must remain up at all times. While in the Gator Park or on an Airboat Tour, the service animal must be on a leash at all times. Emotional support and service animals in training are not allowed entry into the Drive-thru Safari Park or Gator Park. While emotional support animals are often used to help with medical or emotional challenges, they are not considered service animals under the ADA.

Service Animals Accessibility Map

  • Service animals may not enter interactive habitats, including the giraffe feeding encounter, lemur encounter, sloth encounter, or porcupine encounter and are not allowed in the petting zoo or walk-thru bird aviary. These specific animals may view dogs as a threat and may become scared or stressed in the presence of a service animal.

ORLANDO AIRBOAT RIDES

Wheelchair Accessibility for Airboat Tours

  • Our loading dock is ADA compliant and our Florida airboat tours are accessible by a wheelchair-friendly ramp that runs from the back of the gift shop down to the airboat loading docks. However, there are a few steps from the dock to the airboat where the guest will need to be physically transferred from the wheelchair to the airboat.

Wheelchair Accessibility for Gator Park

  • Our Gator Park is also wheelchair-friendly as every exhibit is at ground level and the paths inside our Gator Park are compacted shells, boardwalk and concrete.

Wild Florida is dedicated to providing all its guests with equal enjoyment and a wonderful experience. If you have additional questions regarding our park’s accessibility policies, feel free to reach out to us at 407-957-3135 or by giving us a call on our toll-free number at 1-866-532-7167 .

Wow your group with the sights and sounds of more than 200 native and exotic animals, like ring-tailed lemurs, two-toed sloths, and more! Our Gator Pond is home to more than 150 freshwater alligators and crocodiles who were either born at Wild Florida or declared “nuisance” alligators brought to Wild Florida with the help of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), some of which are larger than 13 feet!

Savor the delight of a refreshing Wild Florida icy slushie or indulge in the creamy goodness of an ice cream cone.

What to Do After Visiting Our Gator Park

More adventure awaits! Once you’ve taken in all of the sights, sounds, and wildlife encounters at our alligator park, take a ride on one of our airboat tours. Our world-famous airboat rides take you through the Headwaters of the Everglades, giving you an unforgettably close encounter of Florida’s native wildlife.

If you’re hungry, check out the Chomp House Grill and fill up on anything from catfish and burgers, to fresh salads and veggies.

When you’re ready to head home, don’t forget to stop by our gift shop. You might even spot a baby alligator on your way out.

What to Do After Your Wild Drive

Take your adventure to new heights. Stop and hand feed giraffes on our elevated giraffe feeding platform. This activity is family-friendly and a guest favorite.

Admission to our Gator Park is included in the price of our Drive-thru Safari Park tickets . Your family will find more than 200 additional animals, as well as enjoy a variety of educational animal shows.

Safety Precautions

Safety at Wild Florida is our number one priority, and we are committed to the health, safety and well-being of our guests, staff and animals. Here are a few safety points and plans for our guests and animals.

We provide life jackets and ear protection for all guests. Children five and under are required to wear a life jacket. For guests six years old and over, life jackets are available along with ear protection, but they are not required.

  • Wild Florida has a stellar reputation when it comes to our airboat tours. Our vessels are U.S. Coast Guard approved and inspected on an annual basis. On the vessels are life preservers for each guest, fire extinguishers, a flare gun and a throw ring if necessary.
  • In case of an emergency, we have an accident plan.
  • We have an incident report if needed.
  • Our loading dock is ADA Compliant.
  • There is always a way to communicate to home base and/or 911 anywhere on site or while out on an airboat tour.

Airboat Operations

You can get up close and personal with many different animals including alligators, zebras and exotic birds. Our park is inspected and approved by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) , United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) , and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) , which makes it a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • In case of a snake bite, we have a snake bite protocol.
  • Our animals are checked regularly by a veterinarian.
  • We have a veterinarian on call at all times.
  • We have an accident plan for emergencies.

See a side of Florida you won’t see at the parks. Experience untouched landscapes and acres of wildlife. Whether you’re an adventure travel enthusiast, a group of avid bird watches, or a family on their dream vacation, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories at Wild Florida.

At Wild Florida, we have an on-site restaurant where you can dine during your visit. If you’re curious to try a taste of the swamp, stop by the Chomp House Grill. Whether cooling off with our signature Swamp Slushy or chowing down on some of the best barbecue around, a visit to Wild Florida isn’t complete until you’ve had a treat from our restaurant.

Whether you are an adventurous carnivore who wants to try our Swamp Platter featuring gator and catfish or you enjoy lighter fare like salads and fresh veggies, the Chomp House Grill has something to please every palate. Can’t find anything on the menu to your liking? Talk to our Executive Chef, and she can whip something up for you.

Enjoy our great food in a rocking chair on our patio, in the air-conditioned comfort of the Cypress Ballroom or in our shaded Gator Pavillion along the shore of Lake Cypress.
