Standard Tours – US$ 40 per head (90 min tour Inclusive of water/ Thambili upon availability  (coconut water) The best way to get a quick outlook on the UNESCO world heritage site. This conversation will bring you highlights that best suit your interest in the fort. From Architecture, culture to people, this walk touches all aspects that best define and describe the fort.

Extended Tours – US$ 80 per head (150 min tour Inclusive of water/ Thambili upon availability  (coconut water) The session covers colonial History, its effect on our Sri Lankan people, the comedy that surrounds colonization, detailed insights on the history of the fort and how it has evolved to be the living site it is, a brief brush with craft and trade and all this ends with the perfect ice tea/ice cream or a sundowner inside the fort.

Night tour at the Dutch Fort – US$ 75 per head  The night is when the Fort becomes calm and lit up. Walk the cobble stone roads that glitter under the moon light while having conversations about the Colonial era. You’re lucky if you bump into a ghost, listening to black comedy wielded by a storyteller. Torches for light sabers and you’re guaranteed to feel like a Jedi time traveling through the 17th Century. Ask yourself, are you afraid of the Dark? This walks end with homemade ice cream or a beer at a layman’s bar which tells an interesting colonial story. Walks starts at 7.00pm All Interactive tours start at the Sudarmalaya Buddhist Monastery inside the Fort.

A Meal at Wasanthi’s – +US$ 50 per head A trip into the home of a typical middle class Sri Lankan family for a Sri Lankan Lunch/Dinner experience. Meet the man in the house who used to be a New York Cabby, his wife who has learnt the art of traditional southern cooking from her grandma, the son who is a Redbull daredevil Surfer and his sister who is starting up her baking business. Let them teach you to eat a home cooked meal with your fingers.

Cooking with Wasanthi – (+US$ 85 per head Sri Lankan Rice and Curry like the country, has its own heritage. It’s an art that has been passed down from generation to generation. The best way to enjoy a Rice and Curry is when it comes out of a home Kitchen. Let our Traditional Southern maestro in the her Kitchen show you the art of cooking a proper home cooked Sri Lankan meal. This will start with a visit to the local Dutch Market where you will see and learn about the variations of Lankan fruits and vegetables. What we cook, is what you choose. All will be followed by lunch.

All of the above tours can end with a  fun mask/ elephant painting activity  which participants can use as a souvenir of the Tour ( + US$ 50 per head ).

Walking experiences.

Walking tours have become the best way to understand the environment that you are travelling.

The GFW approach to a walking tour is what sets it apart from a regular show and tell tour.

This is a conversation driven experience where the traveler can satisfy his or her interest in the Galle Fort by meeting an open minded Sri Lankan who has a common interest in travelling the world. The travelerʼs interest can range from History, architecture, culture, to street food. The experience will take shape based on the people in it.

Kids Treasure Hunt

This is a picture based treasure hunt that is conducted for children between the age of 10 and 3, simultaneously to the walking experience with adults.

This has worked as a great activity for kids to get involved with the Galle Fort, and has become quite the hit with families that travel with their kids.

Art Experiences

This is once again an add-on to the Walking experience that is exclusive for families with kids. The idea here is to create an activity which involves and reveals Sri Lankan art, while also providing the travelling family with a memorable souvenir which has their own craft in it.

Lankan Culinary Experiences

This happens inside the premises of a middle class family kitchen, who take a lot of pride in what comes out of their kitchen. This experience could be a 5 hour cooking program led by the lady of the house or a simple meal in the porch area.

We try to bring out old, forgotten Lankan secrets and traditions that happen in a kitchen. We educate the Traveler with an overview of what Lankan food comprises of with a visit to the local market. Later we reveal how the magic happens inside a Lankan Kitchen, with their participation. All this will end with a well deserved meal to remember.

Group Experiences

Tailor made experiences for incentive groups which involve cricket matches, pub crawls, Dinners and street food. These can be customized to fit the itinerary and purpose of their travel to Sri Lanka.

To begin with you will have to take few steps forward on our tour in order take a step back and re-visit the birth of Colombo.

There are very few people who would know the beginnings of Colombo or as us Sri Lankans say ‘Kolamba’.

The hustle and bustle of city life creates an environment in which time seems to pass quicker. Progress and Economic Development slowly but steadily hide the true essence and character of a city and before you know it the history, culture and architecture that a great city was built on is soon forgotten. We at Colombo Walks plan to keep this rich heritage alive!

The tours start daily at 6.45am at the entrance to the old Dutch Hospital precinct.

Capture the essence of Colombo as the sun rises at the Colombo Lighthouse. Learn about the Arab, Portuguese, Dutch and British Colonizations, all of whom foresaw the potential of Colombo with its own natural harbour and of course the strategic location of Sri Lanka as a major shipping route between the east and west with its close proximity to India.  Each of these colonies left a part of history behind in Colombo like the Lady Ward Clock Tower and Fort Railway Station.

Taste a freshly cut King Coconut or ‘Thambili’ as its locally known and engulf yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of the Pettah Bazzar while you walk down Main Street and see the morning come alive as people set up shop. Visit curiosities like the Largest Chandelier in South East Asia and view some of the ancient coins of Sri Lanka.

The Grand Red Mosque better known as Jami Ul Alfar Mosque seem to truly transport you to another time.

These are just a few of the stops we make on our tour.

Finishing up the walk is just as exciting as starting the walk. A hearty Sri Lankan breakfast awaits and before 9am you would have a few more memories to hold onto.

Thambili House Galle

Thambili House has 2 double bedrooms and 1 family bedroom all located on the upper floor. Bedrooms are well furnished with Genuine Antique Ebony king sized four-poster beds & air-conditioning. The Master Bedroom opens to a Terrace with sea views. And the family room opens to a Terrace with Pool and Lighthouse views. All have ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers. Thambili House has a dedicated Butler to look into Guest’s comfort.

The villa's history dates back to 300 years ago, when Sri Lanka was the world’s only source of prime-quality cinnamon, a Dutch spice trader built a jewel of a house within the fortified port city of Galle. Recently restored by Rohan Aluwihara, a protégé of the renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, the Three bedroomed, fully air conditioned, Thambili House is today a haven of comfort, privacy and refinement for discriminating visitors. Set right next to the Fort Rampart, a few yards from the 300-year-old Masjid Meera Jumma Mosque and the Famous Galle Fort Light House, Thambili house is one of the rare properties in the Galle Fort, which overlooks the picturesque southern Indian Ocean and also boasts a swimming pool. This two-storied, spice merchant’s house is designed with uneven walls and cut cement flooring. Interiors are tastefully decorated with 16th, 17th and 18th Century Genuine Antique Ebony and Calamander Furniture and contemporary local art. The Thambili House can accommodate up to 8 guests and is rented to one party at a time on a villa only basis.

Very small, private hotel inside Galle Fort with friendly and helpful staff. A small interior courtyard pool that is very inviting and the home like public rooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated. My room had a private veranda that looked out on the rampart. The room and bath were large and well appointed and the bed very comfortable. I was delighted with staying there.

Thambili house is a beautifully restored manor home. The rooms have four poster beds and stunning antiques and features around the property. The staff are discreet and very hospitable. Dining options though are limited and take very long, so order ahead if you are hungry!

Beautiful unique property. The rooms are large and the entire place is furnished beautifully. The place was run by 1 guy and he tended to our every need. We enjoyed taking a dip in the pool everyday and it was incredibly relaxing enjoying a traditional sri lankan breakfast beside the pool in the morning.
