Field Of 115 Tee It Up On Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour In Sylvan Lake; Six Winners Crowned In Mini Tour Section

SYLVAN LAKE, Alberta — An impressive field of 115 young golfers participated on Canada’s number-one played junior golf tour in Sylvan Lake, AB, on the Labour Day weekend. The two-day MJT Junior Tour stop presented by SAIT Trojans Athletics at Meadowlands Golf Club, while the one-day MJT Mini Tour at Meadowlands Golf Club at Sylvan Lake for 12U players.  In the Mini Tour stop, 32 players were competing in six divisions in what was the final 12U event in the province this season.

Edmonton, AB, resident Rhea Deo , 12, won the title in the MJT Girls 11-12 Division after firing a score of 69 at Meadowlands Golf Club. Deo earned her first MJT Mini Tour title at the final event of the season. “I felt really good going into the tournament and awesome after winning,” commented Deo. “My chipping was really good, and I thought the course was really good.” Chestermere, AB’s Aliyah Hull, 12, finished runner-up with a score of 72.

Danika Horcica , 9, of Edmonton, AB, shot a score of 81 to pick up the MJT Girls 9-10 Division title by four shots. “I made an eagle which was awesome,” commented Horcica. “I found the greens tricky, but I had lots of fun.” Nine-year-old Camilla Ruesga-Rojas, of Calgary, AB, finished the division in second place with a score of 85.

Sedona Weitz , 8, of Calgary, AB, continues to shine on the MJT Mini Tour in Alberta as she earned her sixth division title of the year. Coming off her Mini Tour National Championship victory two weeks ago, Weitz recorded a score of 81 to take a convincing win in the MJT Girls 8U Division. “I felt proud to win the last tournament,” commented Weitz. “My putting was responsible for getting me the win.” Sylvan Lake-local golfer Ain Lee, 7, recorded a score 95 to finish runner-up.

Eight-year-old Niko Tran , of Calgary, AB, recorded a score of 72 in the MJT Boys 8U Division for another MJT Alberta Mini Tour title. Tran’s performance at Meadowlands Golf Club was good enough to earn him his second Mini Tour win of the year. “I got a new putter which was working for me,” commented Tran, who saw some success on the greens. “I feel really excited to win.” Six-year-old Shane Sky, of Foothills, AB, carded 87 to finish runner-up.

In the MJT Boys 9-10 Division, nine-year-old Edwin Park , of Bentley, AB, edged out a victory. Park recorded a score of 71 to win the title by just a single shot. “I feel really happy to win this MJT tournament,” commented Park. “The course was really good, and I putted well.” Nine-year-old Dalton Stephens, of Craik, SK, recorded a score of 72 to finish the division in second place.

Harrison Kiziak , 12, captured the MJT Boys 11-12 Division by just one shot over Solomon Tong, 11, of Heritage Pointe, AB. Kiziak, of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, fired a round of 81 to win his second MJT Mini Tour title of the season. “I felt pretty confident going into the tournament and pretty happy to get the win,” commented Kiziak. “My overall striking with my driver and irons was good.”

This tournament marks the end of the 2021 MJT Mini Tour season in Alberta. A 2022 Early Bird Membership Offer will be available this December and details can be found online at www.maplejt.com .
