With guidance from HQ in Europe, KTM India has come a long way in establishing itself as the leader in the premium sports motorcycle segment in India. This has been cemented with recent updates to the ‘Supersport’ segment, with the small capacity KTM RC range, and the KTM 250 ADVENTURE and KTM 390 ADVENTURE range. This makes KTM the only European premium motorcycle brand in India, with purpose-built products for the Indian domestic market. The majority of KTM motorcycles produced in India are distributed to emerging markets. The following models are produced in India:

KTM Motohall Mattighofen

KTM Motohall Ausstellung | © KTM

This innovative exhibition, roughly 40 kilometers outside of Salzburg, on around 10 000 m² is dedicated to the history and milestones of the Austrian motorcycle make KTM.

The exhibition in Mattighofen on three levels offers intriguing insights into the brand, the technology and the history of the Austrian make KTM. Interactive displays, virtual tours, original bikes and special programs for kids make this an interesting place to visit. The architecture of the Motohall is a statement in its own right: The oval form of the building evokes a racetrack, the perforated pattern of the facade the tire prints of motocross tires.

Founded in Mattighofen in 1934, originally a metal workshop, 20 years later they would begin serial production of motorcycles. Today, KTM is one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in Europe.

Also a very kid-friendly excursion destination, it can be reached by car in about 40 minutes, or by public transportation from Salzburg in an hour. The exhibition is handicapped-accessible, whilst a shop and restaurant add the finishing touches.

Simon Cudby

Our man Simon Cudby just completed a bucket-list level ride through the Alps on a KTM adventure bike—including a stop at the actual KTM production facility and headquarters in Munderfing and Mattighoffen, Austria. It was a good time to check out the facility, because a new building has just been added specifically for the racing teams.

"A new building was inevitable after the integration of Husqvarna three years ago, and the decision to go into the MotoGP class," said Pit Beirer, KTM's motorsport director, in an MXGP press release. " For this concept, it was a matter of great concern to us that the entire KTM Motorsport family could strive for further success under one roof. A special thanks to the team from Architekturbüro Hofbauer from Wels, [Austria], for the brilliant planning. With Stefan Pierer as a great thinker and leader of the KTM Group, and with the passion of our employees, we will be able to pursue further major goals together and celebrate our future successes.”

“In 1992 KTM Racing was still a single small workshop, and successfully tackled Rally and Motocross alongside the initial niche of Enduro under the strong leadership of Heinz Kinigadner," said Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM Group. "Meanwhile, since Pit Beirer took over our motorsport in 2006, the team has grown to more than 300 employees worldwide and employs more than 60 factory riders. Ready to race and motor racing are a way of thinking that keeps the company fresh and drives our more than 3000 employees in Mattighofen and Munderfing every day. Five percent of our annual sales flow into our motorsport and makes KTM Europe’s biggest sport motorcycle manufacturer with the ambitious goal of being on the podium all over the world in the coming years.”

Here are Simon's photos and captions of both the production facility and the new race shop.

The KTM Factory offers public tours of the manufacturing facility on a regular basis.

KTM Factory Visit / Tour?

Discussion in ' Dakar champion (950/990) ' started by PhotoMotard , Sep 2, 2006 .

Anyone have any experience on touring the KTM factory in Austria? Where can I find more info? Do they do tours and what days and hours? I'll be in the area first of October and would like to stop in. I'd also like to hear any recommendations for fantastic shops in austria and Germany for KTM clothing and bike accessories. Do they have a "factory" store there or nearby? Thanks. If you go, you should see their boardroom. It is lined on both sides with all the championship winning bikes back to the 70's. There was an article in one of the local bike mags here. The Journalist was taken around by the marketing director. The stats and pictures are amazing! He was allowed into the R&D department but his camera wasn't. He said he came out drooling. I threw the mag away recently maybe some other South African ADV member can help you.

There is a factory store located onsite of the factory, open to the public.

LC8rider

LC8rider Been here awhile

I dropped in on my way home from our Romanian tour. The guided tours are available on Fridays only I think. The shop is open all week during normal hours. Unfortunately the day we got there was a Tuesday so we missed our chance. The girl in the shop gave me the email of the guy who sets up booked tours of the factory. I didn't keep the email . I don't see the point of covering old ground when doing big tours so I knew we would never go there again. Not much help I'm afraid, but at least you know it's possible. I do know that dealers are invited over from time to time, so any dealer should have the contacts to help.

has anyone done the three day KTM factory trip? I am thinking about going in October and wondered if it was worth going from the UK and what the two days off-road riding was like?

I've not done it but it sounds interesting. What does it involve? When are you thinking of going? Mark

I've done the KTM factory tours in March '06, and they are held on Fridays at 8:30 am and they start at the engine assembly factory. There is a total of 3 factories in Mattighofen of which one is the bicycle factory which is well worthwhile.I tried for 3 months to get in contact with the factory regarding a visit to no avail, so when we got to Salzburg we had a local make a few phone calls only to find out the tour was booked out with 2 busloads of visitors. Being typical Aussies we went anyway and trampled through snow and slush, walked from the train station to the Main assembly factory only to be told the tour starts at the other factory a couple of K's up the road. So we walked again and got there in time to beat the tour buses and talked our way in, but the only problem was that the tour was in german....Ah well we looked and listened but didn't understand but we didn't care....Well worth the effort..........

Badmunkie

Badmunkie ...and needing spanked!

I went on a 2 day Factory Tour in June 06. The 3 day tours are, I think, for the 950 AVD's. The morning of the first day was spent touring the engine works and then the main factory. Cameras not allowed in either. I think the 950 SE and 200 EXC's were being assembled at the time. I asked about the Polaris merge but got no hard info. The tour guide did speak English but the group was predominantly German/Austrian so he quickly gave up on me. We were kept away from the R&D deptartment. I considered making a run at it with camera flashing, but before I could we were ushered out to the parking lot and pointed to the factory shop. The factory shop actually only had the usual swag you find in the catalogs, mostly clothes, bags, boots and helmets. I saw no Hard Parts there. At noon you go to the Adventure Tour HQ near the engine works and are assigned a bike. The 2 day participants are on '05 450 EXCs. The 3 dayers are given 950 ADV's. Our first stop was a cafe in Mattighofen for lunch. We all then went for a short ride to one of thier local test tracks where we were split into 3 groups based on riding ability. One group was beginners and were shown the basics by a tour guide. The next group were experienced and were allowed to putt around a short section of the track with hints and suggestions from another guide. The rest considered themselves advanced and were allowed to go ahead and attack the full track layout. Interestingly, there was a guy thrashing, or being thrashed by, a 950 SE. I saw him do a 20-25 minute moto and was hammering the whole time. After the time at the track we rode back and turned in the bikes. That evening we met up at a local restaurant for a meal. The next day we met at HQ to pick up our bikes then split into mostly road, or mostly dirt groups. I chose dirt. We hit some local dirt and gravel roads with only one over-enthusiastic soul kissing a tree. We met up with the road-going group for a mid-morning stop for coffee. Afterwards we rode together up a mountain to a remote lodge for an authentic Austrian meal. Book the trip for the host and her daughter alone! Afterwards we rode as a group back to the factory to turn the bikes in and depart. I have the distinction of receiving the only speeding ticket. 20 Euro for 20 over. Sucks to be the last in line! The 950 ADVers met up the next day for their last ride. We all bought our own food. Fuel was paid for by the tour guide. All in all it was a good experience. Send an email to [email protected] and ask for open dates.

Thanks LC8rider the area you recommended is spectacular. The factory tour / ride was extremely enjoyable. Highly recommended. I hope PhotoMotard enjoyed it as much as I did. Here are some info and pictures and I hope others will find it helpful when they do the visit. The main assembly plant on the right and R and D on the left KTM shop to spend all your money before the tour even starts Pity they don't sell KTM HARD PARTS The line up of world championship winning KTM bikes Sorry no cameras allowed inside the factories you probably pick up your bikes at the tour office some 2 kms away from the main plant And best of all you are only a short distance away from some great riding and spectacular scenery
Looking at the sky at the factory, you had better weather than we did. Bloody huge electrical storm hit us as we came out of the shop, then we sat at the exit barriers waiting for a car to come by to open them up (bikes didn't activate the auto system). Glad I went though, a bit like showing your newborn where they come from :huh

Please can anyone here have the address of authorized dealers in Austria or the address of the Ktm factory there to send a letter with my complaints? If I send email in the ktm site they told me that it will finally go to ktm southeast Europe which is in Greece and they can't give me solution for my brand new 1190R
