This 42-day Cruise Will Sail From Florida to Europe to the Middle East Next Year

Holland America's “42-day Ultimate Mediterranean & Atlantic Passage” will make 16 stops including Greece, Tel Aviv, Morocco, and more.

Holland America Line will launch a 42-day cruise across the Atlantic Ocean and around Europe and the Middle East from Florida next year, inspired by a journey the cruise line took nearly 100 years ago.

The “42-day Ultimate Mediterranean & Atlantic Passage” cruise will sail from Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 9, 2024, and visit 16 different ports before heading back to Florida, according to the cruise company . The sailing is part of the company’s Legendary Voyages, which are longer cruises ranging from 25 to 59 days.

Travelers who board the company’s Volendam ship will first sail to the Azores before heading over to Tangier, Morocco, and on to Italy and Greece where they will have the opportunity to visit popular cities like Florence, Rome, and Athens. The cruise will then head down to Israel where guests can explore Tel Aviv and Jerusalem before making its way to Egypt and Tunisia. 

On its way back to Florida, passengers will stop in Gibraltar, Spain, and Casablanca.

“Holland America Line was one of the first companies to feature cruise vacations that went beyond a transatlantic crossing, and today we’re continuing to innovate our itineraries by offering memorable voyages like this ultimate Mediterranean and Atlantic passage sailing,” Beth Bodensteiner, the chief commercial officer for Holland America Line, said in a statement. “Since introducing this new Legendary category of cruises that offer an in-depth focus on one region, they’ve been very popular. We’re excited to add a longer voyage that makes it easy to explore the Med in depth without a long-haul flight.”

Holland America said the cruise is inspired by a trip the company took in 1925, which departed from New York City on the Rotterdam IV and sailed to several of the same ports next year’s cruise will visit.

Last year, Holland America celebrated its 150th anniversary with a series of heritage cruises , including a special transatlantic cruise that recreated the company’s first sailing by crossing the Atlantic Ocean before the company was even incorporated.

The company is also planning an epic 133-day pole-to-pole Grand Voyage in 2025, which will sail as far south as Antarctica and as far north as the Arctic Circle off the coast of Norway.

In addition, we are pleased to present his successful production, “An Evening with Tim Rice,” is now playing on all Seabourn ships. The show, in association with Belinda King Creative Productions and directed by Belinda King, first debuted in January 2017 on the inaugural voyage of Seabourn Encore and is now part of the evening entertainment repertoire on board Seabourn Odyssey, Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest. It will also debut on Seabourn Ovation in 2018 when the ship is launched. “An Evening with Tim Rice” is a concert-style presentation narrated via video by Rice to highlight some of his most loved work – from Jesus Christ Superstar to Aladdin and The Lion King . The show also includes a number from Chess called “One Night in Bangkok,” and a broad “Circle of Life” finale. The production is enhanced through anecdotes and visuals from Rice’s personal archive, and audiences will learn how each song came to life as they are drawn into the mind of one of the world’s most iconic songwriters. Additional cast members have joined the show during the rollout, many of whom have extensive professional experience performing on Broadway and the West End theaters. They include Dayle Hodge, who just finished playing Frankie Valli in the hit West End musical, Jersey Boys; JC McCann, who starred as Joseph in Jersey Boys on the Broadway tour; Rachel Jerram, who appeared in Avenue Q in both the West End and U.K. tour; Matias Polar; who appeared in FAME on the U.S. tour; and Ellie Ann, who performed in Saturday Night Fever in the U.K. national tour. Meeting Rooms

For meetings and gatherings, our ships offer meeting rooms that can accommodate up to 40 guests. The meeting rooms can be arranged to guests’ specifications including theater-style or with tables; and each of the rooms have large-screen TVs for presentations. After 11 days in Egypt, guests fly into the Swiss Alps for a stay at Lake Town of Lugano on the border of Switzerland and Italy. There’s a land tour of Milan before guests set sail on the Venice Lagoon and Po River for a cruise to Northern Italy on the newly renovated  S.S. La Venezia . The redesign features Fortuny fabrics displayed prominently onboard as well as Murano glass, gilded accents and artistic etched elements which pay homage to popular Venetian aesthetics of the early 20th century.

The fourth leg of the journey brings guests through Northern France on the Seine River with a call on Paris and visits to the beaches of Normandy. Russia launches a barrage of drones, cruise and ballistic missiles at Kyiv, Ukraine's military says

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia launched a barrage of drones, cruise and ballistic missiles at Kyiv and possibly other cities, Ukraine’s air force said early Monday.

Several series of explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital in the early hours of Monday, sending residents into bomb shelters.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said emergency services were called to the Holosiivskyi and Solomianskyi districts of Kyiv. One person was reportedly injured by falling debris in Shevchenkivskyi district, Klitschko said.

“There will be an answer for everything. The enemy will feel it,” the head of the Presidential Office, Andrii Yermak, posted on his Telegram page following the attack.

According to the air force, Russia fired several groups of cruise missiles accompanied by ballistic missile launches and a few drones, targeting Kyiv.

An explosion also rang out in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, according to Ukrainian media.

The barrage comes a day after Russia's military reported intercepting and destroying 158 Ukrainian drones targeting multiple Russian regions in one of the biggest attacks of the war that has raged for about 2 1/2 years.

Forty-six of the drones were over the Kursk region, where Ukraine has sent its forces in recent weeks in the largest incursion on Russian soil since World War II. A further 34 were shot over the Bryansk region, 28 over the Voronezh region, and 14 over the Belgorod region — all of which border Ukraine.

Drones were also shot down deeper into Russia, including one each in the Tver region, northwest of Moscow, and the Ivanovo region, northeast of the Russian capital. Russia's Defense Ministry said drones were intercepted over 15 regions, while one other governor said a drone was shot down over his region, too.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that falling debris from one of the two drones shot down over the city caused a fire at an oil refinery.

Ukrainian drone strikes have brought the fight far from the front line into the heart of Russia. Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has stepped up aerial assaults on Russian soil, targeting refineries and oil terminals to slow down the Kremlin’s assault.

Also in Russia, regional Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said 11 people were wounded in Ukrainian aerial missile attacks in the Russian border region of Belgorod on Sunday. These included eight in the regional capital, also called Belgorod.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said Sunday it had taken control of the towns of Pivnichne and Vyimka, in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. The Associated Press could not independently verify the claim.

Russian forces have been driving deeper into the partly occupied eastern region, the total capture of which is one of the Kremlin’s primary ambitions. Russia’s army is closing in on Pokrovsk , a critical logistics hub for the Ukrainian defense in the area.

At least three people were killed and nine wounded on Sunday in Russian shelling in the town of Kurakhove, some 20 miles (33 kilometers) south of Pokrovsk, Donetsk regional Gov. Vadym Filashkin said.

Also on Sunday, 44 people were wounded when Russia attacked the Kharkiv regional capital, also called Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. The city was struck by 10 missiles, with a shopping center, a sports facility and residential buildings among those damaged.

Elsewhere in Ukraine overnight, eight drones were shot down out of 11 launched by Russia, according to the Ukrainian air force.

One person was killed and four wounded in shelling overnight in the Sumy region, local officials said, while Kharkiv Gov. Oleh Syniehubov said five other people had been wounded in his region.
