On arrival in Chianti, you will enjoy a morning wine tasting session sampling a Chianti Classico, a Riserva and an IGT Super Tuscan. These wines will be paired with delicious local cheese, meat and bread, and the session will be followed by a rustic Italian lunch with the winery experts, offering you the chance to sample more of thor products and ask questions about any step of the winemaking process.
After lunch at a Tuscan farmhouse, you will get to visit another of the region’s wineries and put your new-found tasting knowledge into good use as you take part in another wine tasting session. Already you will hopefully be able to distinguish some of the classic flavours of the Chianti Classico wines, and really appreciate the differences in their tastes.
Finally, your driver will take you to one of the quaint towns in Chianti such as Castellina or Greve, where you can stroll through the streets or go into one of the local boutique shops and purchase a souvenir of the area. You will return to Florence full of delicious food and specialist wine tasting knowledge, and spend another night in your hotel.
DAY 3 – ON THE FOOTSTEPS OF ANTINORI
Today on your tour you will learn about the history of the Antinori family, who have been producing wine in Tuscany for over six centuries. In 1385 Giovanni di Piero Antinori became a member of the ‘Arte Fiorentina’ winemakers guild in Florence, and since then his descendants have been honing their winemaking skills and passing them down through twenty-six generations of winemakers. The family have managed the business throughout the years, upholding traditional values and working only with grapes from the surrounding area.
Your first winery visit will be to the Badia di Passignano estate, which is housed in an ancient monastery that was originally established by the archbishop of Florence. After touring this winery, you will enjoy a delicious Italian lunch at an estate in Greve; a local medieval village in Chianti.
After lunch, your next tour will be at the Antinori family’s estate in Bargino, situated between Greve and the San Casciano municipality. You will get to see the exterior and interior of the great winery, including its impressive spiral staircase, roof vineyard and the different ageing and vinification areas.
Once you have finished your tour of the Antinori winery your driver will take you to Montepulciano, where you will be staying for the next three nights.
DAY 4 – A DAY WITH THE WINEMAKERS IN MONTEPULCIANO
After breakfast in the gastronomic hub of Montepulciano, you will visit the headquarters of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG winery and meet the producers of this signature variety of wine. The history and secrets of their process and knowledge will be revealed to you as you also learn more about local culture and how this has influenced the business.
Surrounded by sensational countryside and views, you will visit three different wineries in the Montepulciano countryside and really connect with the local flavours, scents and natural landscape. After tasting the signature Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG wines, you will be served a light, traditional Tuscan lunch in one of the wineries, and get to sit back and relax in your surroundings.
DAY 5 – VAL D’ORCIA
On the fifth day of your tour, you have the option to either enjoy your resort in Montepulciano or travel to the Val d’Orcia area of Tuscany. This location derives its name from the Orcia river which runs through the rolling hills and is dotted with groves, grain and sunflower fields.
Two specialist wines that come from the Val d’Orcia area are the classic red Brunello and the more modern Val d’Orcia DOC red wine, both of which are made using the grapes of the surrounding vineyards. The whole territory is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the incredible natural landscape and is a truly idyllic area of Tuscany to visit.
Whether you have been on a trip or stayed at your resort, you will enjoy dinner in Montepulciano and spend the last night in this area.
DAY 6 – MAREMMA
After breakfast in Montepulciano, you will journey towards the southern Tuscan coast through the Maremma area. Stretching between Grosseto and Livorno, Maremma is a varied stretch of land that includes beaches and beautiful coves, outcrops of black rock, natural hot springs and sprawling green hills covered with woodland and fields.
You will stop en route in Montecucco, which is known for being one of the best-kept secrets in the wine industry. With countryside, historic ruins from the Etruscan period and views of Mount Amiata in the distance, it’s a beautiful place that not only produces fine wine but is also known for its truffles, saffron, honey, mushrooms and olive oil.
You will arrive in Manciano by the late afternoon, and spend the night in this small town.
DAY 7 – MAREMMA
On your final day of this tour, we give you free time so that you can choose how you want to spend the last of your time in Tuscany. We recommend that you make the most of the natural thermal baths that the Maremma region boasts, and pass the time relaxing in the beautiful countryside.
DAY 8 – DEPARTURE
