Medina, a city of profound historical and religious significance, offers a wealth of experiences for visitors to explore and enjoy. While many people associate Saudi Arabia primarily with religious pilgrimage, there are plenty of diverse activities and attractions to enjoy in Medina.

My recent visit to Medina was a revelation, proving that this city is far more than just a traditional pilgrimage destination. While the spiritual essence of the Prophet’s Mosque remains awe-inspiring, I was pleasantly surprised by the numerous other experiences and attractions that the city had to offer.

I have listed 20 things to do in Medina (or Madinah, however you call it) so that you can enjoy your time to the fullest.

Each of these “must-do things” was picked by me because I thought they were worth it. And I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did.

Here is a list of the most glorious things that you can do in Medina. Don’t miss them, guys. It will be a really amazing trip; you can trust me on that.

1. Say Prayers at Al-Masjid an Nabawi

If you are a Muslim, don’t forget to say your prayers in the Holy Al-Masjid An Nabawi when in Medina. Also known as the Prophet’s Mosque, this mosque is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but it also has Islamic significance and history.

The Al-Masjid An Nabawi was established by the Prophet Himself (PBUH) to offer congregational prayers without disturbance. It is also the final resting place of Muhammad, which is why this mosque is of utmost significance for Muslims all over the world.

Besides its Islamic significance, the beauty of this Mosque also captured my heart. The beautiful green dome, the intricate works, and the stunning marble floors will surely mesmerize you as much as they did to me. The beauty of this mosque cannot be described in mere words!

However, if you are a non-Muslim, you cannot enter the mosque. You can witness its beauty from the fence and even take pictures there.

2. Explore The Rawdah

Medina is not only for visiting historical places and saying your prayers at the Mosques and Masjids. It’s also about to finding inner peace.  And for that, explore no other place than the Rawdah Mubarak (PBUH).

Located between the Propht’s (PBUH) house and the Minbar, the Rawdah Mubarak is the burial place of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Because He is the last Prophet and the messenger of Allah SWT, it is a must-visit place for the Muslims.

However, you must remember that you cannot visit the Rawdah Mubarak as many times as you want during your stay in Medina. You will be permitted to visit this place only one in every 30 days. Also, prior your visit, you need to get a permission from the authorities.

3. Don’t Escape Masjid Quba

There is nothing like the Al Masjid An Nabawi in Medina. However, the history and beauty of the Masjid Quba also wandered my wandering heart.

Masjid Quba, holds a special place in Islamic history. It is the first mosque ever built by the Prophet Muhammad after his migration from Mecca to Medina. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, laid the foundation of Masjid Quba, and he used to visit it regularly.

Notably, he prayed there every Saturday, often walking the approximately three miles from Medina to the mosque. This practice of a weekly visit to Masjid Quba is known as the “Sunnah of Quba” and is a highly recommended act of worship in Islam

Even though the grandeur of this Mosque will now make you awestruck, it was built very simply in the beginning.

Over the years, they added a second-story platform, seven major entrances, and four parallel minarets to elevate the look and also ensure the convenience of the people who come to pray here.

That’s not all. What caught my eye were the fifty-six mini domes surrounding the mosque to create a boundary.

Trust me, you have to be there to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Masjid Quba.

4. Go For Mount Uhud Hiking

Mount Uhud also has a lot of historical significance. It is the place where the historical battle of Uhud took place.

Even though it’s just a mountain, to Muslims, this place is special. When I went hiking on this mountain, I felt a rush of gratitude for the martyrs of the battle.

In addition to being a sacred place, Mount Uhud is also incredibly beautiful. Even if you are not a Muslim, you shouldn’t miss the chance to visit this place.

5. Go To Jannatul Baqi

Also known as the Garden of Heaven, Jannatul Baqi is truly a piece of heaven. It is the main graveyard of Medina, with thousands of years of history and significance.

When I first stepped into this Holy Graveyard, my heart filled with gratitude and emotion while I felt goosebumps all over my body.

This is the final resting place of many of the Prophet’s close family members, His close companions, and many other prominent, pious personalities in Islamic history.

Even though there aren’t many things to see in this graveyard, the resting place of all the significant personalities will surely make your soul happy.

But remember that, like many other places in Medina, Jannatul Baqi is also restricted for non-Muslims.

6. Visit The Holy Quran Exhibition

If you are still wondering what are the things to do in Medina, I will suggest you visit the Holy Quran Exhibition .

This was definitely the highlight of my trip because not only was the museum incredibly breathtaking, but the history and significance of the Holy Book filled my mind and soul.

What made me emotional and had butterflies in my stomach was the sight of the nine original Qurans; the oldest of them was from 1563. The beautiful ornate two-centuries-old copy was really a sight to behold.

Even if you are not a Muslim, you can still visit this place and learn more about this ancient book in Islam.

7. Visit The Islamic University of Madinah

When you are in mood to take a break from all the mosque, graveyard, and historical places, hire a taxi and spend some times at the prestigious The Islamic University of Madinah . Located in Abo Bakr Al Siddiq, Al Jamiah, this modern university is one of most glorious places to visit while in Medina.

It was established King Saud bin Abdulaziz in 1961, the institute is said to have been associated with Salafism. They aim to exported Salafi-inclined theologians around the world. Besides its belief, the premises, the library, and even the spectacular building of this University will satisfy your wondering mind.

8. Go For Shopping At The Al Noor Mall

If you want to see how the shopping malls of modern Medina are, don’t hesitate to spend an evening at the Al Noor Mall in Medina .

From luxury brands like Gucci, Armani to high-street brands and even local products, this mall literally has something for everyone. I was completely awestruck to see the grandeur of this shopping mall, as well as its collections.

In addition to having all these national and international brands, the Al Noor Mall also has a dedicated area for food courts, play zones, and a kid zone.

Also, even though it might sound surprising, this mall has a movie theater for you to enjoy some amazing movies.

9. Stop By The Well Of Salman Al Farsi

There is never a shortage of things to do in Medina. While visiting the city, make it a point to stop by the Well Of Salman Al Farsi. It is located in the Garden of Salman Al Farsi and has a beautiful story behind it.

The Prophet himself planted hundreds of date trees in this garden to free Salman from slavery and hard work.

However, besides its link to the Prophet Mohammed and the beautiful story behind it, this Well and the garden is extremely beautiful and peaceful.

10. Indulge In The Mouthwatering Cuisine

One thing you should never miss when visiting Medina is their mouthwatering cuisines. Tasting their foods should be at the top of your “things to do in Medina” list.

From their local Medina rice to the Makhtoom Bamia Okra with yogurt and saffron and Shorbat Hub, the taste of the foods is just “oh so delicious.”

Also, don’t forget to taste the flavorful Samboosak Buff and Buraik dough pastry to fulfill your gastronomical experience.

In addition to trying out cuisine at different restaurants, don’t forget to hop on a street food adventure. No one can serve authentic flavors than the street food vendors

11. Explore The City On A Hop-On, Hop-Off Tourist Bus

If you don’t have enough time to experience all the things to do in Medina, just hop on one of the stylish red double-decker tourist buses and explore all the best attractions of Medina city.

Located in the south of Quba Mosque, visiting The Bani Waqif Fort is one of the best things to do in Medina. It is one of the oldest forts in the region, with a rich history and significance.

Even though it is centuries old, it is believed that the fort was reconstructed during the Ottoman period to make it even better.

This fort holds significance because the Prophet Muhammad had prayed here, and also, the local tribe of this area was special friends of the Messenger.

Even though it is named the “Seven Mosques,” there are actually six small mosques in the area. Situated on the western side of Mount Sela’ and at the site of the Battle of Al-Khandaq, the 7th mosque of the “Seven Mosques” was demolished by the Saudis. However, it’s still called the Seven Mosque because of its history.

When I went there, I said my prayers in all six mosques because of peace of mind. It’s spiritual, fulfilling, and truly amazing.

14. See The Dar Al Madinah Museum

If you are into history and museums like me, the Dar Al Madinah Museum is a must-see place for you when visiting Medina.

Perfectly curated, this museum is decked up with Islamic heritage and culture that ties to the Prophet (PBUH) in some way or another.

Besides the legacy of Prophet Muhammad, this museum also has a ton of sculptures and other collections to depict the history and legendary stories of the city. I bet you can never keep track of time when going through the halls of this museum.

In conclusion, Dar Al Madinah Museum is a must-visit destination for anyone with an appreciation for history, culture, and religious significance. It offers a unique opportunity to explore the roots of one of the world’s most sacred cities and gain a deeper understanding of the traditions and heritage that have endured for generations.

A visit to this remarkable museum is a journey through time and a chance to connect with the essence of Medina, making it an enriching experience for travelers from all walks of life.

15. Grave of Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib Jiayarat

When making a list of things to do in Medina, remember to include the grave of Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib. Even though it’s just a grave, it has a high significance in Islamic history.

Hamza ibn Abdul-Muttalib was one of the prominent companions of the Prophet and was killed in the Battle of Uhud. He was standing right in front of Muhammad when he was killed, saving the Prophet’s life.

16. Spend Some Time At The Desert of Saleh

The desert of Saleh is one of the most beautiful places in Medina. And I say that with utmost satisfaction. Not only is this place decked with gigantic tombs and graves, but it also has intricate drawings and inscriptions on its walls.

What attracted me most about this place are the remains of the lost Nabataean Kingdom. They preserved the remains so well that they would instantly travel you from the present to the past.

17. Don’t Forget To Experience the Cave of Bani Haram

Another place I absolutely loved while in Medina was the Cave of Bani Haram . Located near the At Al-Masjid An Nabawi, this Cave has special significance in the Islamic Community. And that is because, during the Trench Battle, the Holy  Prophet spent numerous nights here for shelter and rest.

Also, many believe that this Cave is the same cave where the Prophet prostrated on receiving Allah’s message. Because of all this significance, visiting this place was a highlight of my Medina trip.

18. Visit King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex

Another highlight of my Medina trip was visiting the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex . Even though to many, it’s just another printing complex, to me, it’s something I wanted to see my whole life. This is the place where the Holy Book is printed.

This printing complex exclusively prints more than 10 million copies of the Holy Quran every year in different languages including Arabic, Indonesian, Russian, Japanese, and others. You can see the whole process of printing from the above.

However, as it is forbidden to touch the Holy Quran without wudhu (ablution), all the Quarans in this complex are displayed in glass cases for safety.

One thing I love about this place is that they gift a copy of the Holy Book to every visitor while leaving. I also received one, which I absolutely love.

19. Go To The Prophet Mosque Expansion Exhibition

When making a list of the things to do in Medina, make sure to include the Magnificent Prophet Mosque Expansion Exhibition. You will not regret it, guys!

Located just opposite the Prophet’s Mosque ( Al Masjid An Nabawi), this exhibition will walk you through the historic expansions of Al Masjid An Nabawi throughout the ages. From the Prophet’s days till date, how this Masjid has evolved is there.

I am sure you won’t regret your time in this place.

20. Taste The Saudian Dates

One thing you should never miss while in Medina is taste their various dates. Mecca and Medina are known for their various dates, and I didn’t miss the chance to indulge in them as much as possible. It was like I was in a “Date” with the Saudian dates.

This desert fruit is extremely delicious, nutritious, and fun to eat. As they are quite small in size, you can also carry them in your purse whenever you travel. The delicious taste of these dates will always keep you happy; I promise you that.

Things To Do In Madinah! Sightseeing in Madinah Guide

Madinah/Medina, the second most holy place in Islam is an incredibly peaceful city and worth spending a few days in, whether you are Muslim or Non-Muslim. Aside from the most famous Medina attraction – the Prophets Mosque-  Al-Masjid An Nabawi , what are other things to do in Madinah and places to visit in Madinah are there?

Here is my guide to things to do in Madinah and sightseeing in Madinah as a tourist and why the Madinah Hop-On Hop-Off Bus is the best way to see Madinah!

Al-Masjid An Nabawi

I will save you the history lesson as if you’re reading this you probably know more than me about the Prophets Mosque. Of course, this is the most important place to visit in Madinah and the central place to visit and top of the list of things to do in Madinah!

Al-Haram is huge and I loved walking around the outside observing everyone and taking in the tranquillity.

Museums in Madinah

There are a number of museums in Medina you can visit and add to your list of things to do in Madinah.

I was recommended to visit Dar Al Madinah Museum. 

Assalam Museum is located just outside of Al-Masjid An Nabawi so it’s in a really good location to visit.

Hejaz Railway Museum is also very close to Al Haram, it’s also a stop on the City Hop On Hop Off Bus which I really recommend doing!

The Beautiful Names of Allah Exhibition also shows as a popular museum to visit in Madinah.

From my experience trying to visit museums in Saudi Arabia, I advise double-checking the opening times before visiting as they can seem to open and close whenever they want.

Places to Visit in Madinah

For all of the other things to see in Madinah, things to do in Madinah and for sightseeing in Madinah, I am going to recommend that you use the Hop-On, Hop-Off Tourist Bus that runs in Medina.

For me, visiting Saudi Arabia as a tourist has been hard because of the lack of public transport options and tours on offer, however, because Madinah is set up for tourism, it is not an issue here and it makes sense to take this bus to see the many places to visit in Madinah.

Madinah Hop-On Hop-Off Bus

The bus starts and ends at the ClockTower by Al Masjid An Nabawi.

There are 2 lines, a green line and a red line . The green line is only very short and it only goes around the outside of Al-Haram so you should do the red line to see everything Medina has to offer.

The highlight of the bus for me was not only the ease of getting it but the audio guide as I did not take a Madinah tour so this gave me so much historical information about Madinah.

The audioguide is available in 16 languages so it is perfect for everyone visiting!

You can book the bus at the ticket office by the Clocktower in Medina, or you can book and pay for it online . The prices are the same.

Personally, I decided to book online and I recommend you do too.

Accommodation in Madinah

I loved my Madinah Hotel so I really recommend it to you too if you haven’t booked accommodation yet.

I stayed at Mawaddah Altaqwa Hotel   which I really recommend. I had an amazing view of Al-Masjid a Nabawi from my room, the room was clean and comfy with welcoming staff. It definitely gets used as a hotel for big groups visiting Medina on their Pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina but that was not a problem for me!

Also known as Ohud Battlefield , this is one of the extremely  historical places in Madina . Once the hop-on, hop-off bus has been around the Al-Haram Mosque it travels out of the city here as the first real stop.

I recommend getting off the bus here so you can visit the mosque and see the views of the city and mountain from a small hill next to the mosque.

Al Noor Mall

This is a stop on the Red bus route. I stopped here for a bathroom break and to get lunch. Unless you want either or you want to shop I don’t suggest visiting as it is a pretty standard mall and not different from any other mall in Saudi Arabia.

Sultanah Road

If shopping is on your list of things to do in Madinah , Sultanah Road is a good stop. There are lots of shops along the street and lots of places to eat too.

Masjid Quba

Quba Square

For what to do in Medina, Quba Square is a good place to visit on the bus or walking from Al-Haram. It is a good walking street full of shops and one of the good things to do in Madinah at night.

I hope this helps you understand the many places to visit in Madinah and things to do in Madinah. Whether you are visiting Medina as part of a pilgrimage with Mecca or you are visiting only Medina as I did , you can easily spend 2 days in Madinah doing lots of sightseeing in Madinah!

Update: I actually became Muslim 5 months after visiting Madinah. Visiting Saudi Arabia but Madinah especially really sparked my interest in Islam and with Covid happening afterwards I was able to spend time learning more about Islam before becoming Muslim in August!

MasyaaAllah, subhanallah.... Allah swt have given you his blessing & hidayah for all your pleasant words & respect on his holy city. Even though I have been to Madinah/Mekah 3 times, I found your advise for touring the madinah rather simple and easy to follow. Im rather looking for soemthing different from the normal/usual visiting plans which ive been thro a few time. Preferable the local touch, food and place, which not normal tourist go thro. Insyaa Allah.. I plann to do umrah again this december and while browsing , found yr site. Thank you again for the efforts youve put in to help others... salam,,

Thanks for this post. Most hotels in Madinah check out at 12pm. Suppose you have 4-5 hours before your flight, with kids, what's a good way to spend that time in Madinah (particularly ways to get rest for the kids). I'm not sure if Madinah airport has rest facilities. Please advise, thanks!

I found Madinah airport to be quite small but I did fly internally so that might be why. There are plenty of malls near the masjid and around the city you can relax in for a bit and hotels allow you to keep your bags at reception until you need to head to the airport.

The hotel you stayed had amazing view but I couldn't find it in google map or booking.com. Could there be a change of name? What is the geographical coordinate? I'll arrive by a rental car, but I'm rather intimidated driving in the city centre. Hotels in the centre may not have parking space. What is your impression of the city traffic?

Hello, yes, it doesn't seem like its on Booking.com anymore but it is on Agoda to book: https://agoda.tp.st/HwMONfDE I didn't drive, I remember it being busy around the hotel areas near the masjid but the outer roads were much quieter, although driving in Saudi is a challenge in itself anyway!

Excellent service!

Started the booking journey about 3 month prior to my mum and sister trip. Both my mum and sister had international passports, however AI Madinah Travels assured me they could travels from the USA. Excellent experience with Al Madinah Travel starting Travel Agent sister Ayesha. Terrible experience for Hajj travel

Additional info: this is written on behalf of my father. This entire experience was taking place over WhatsApp. We were never given a reference number and only communicated over phone and text. No emails either. Terrible experience for Hajj travel. This company will quickly take your money for Hajj, but will not respond to your calls, emails, texts, etc. My family feels scammed. We sent $6,000 as a deposit for travel to Hajj. Now they are saying we should be going through Nusuk Hajj application and do the whole process ourselves. They repeatedly told us not to use Nusuk ourselves, but when the packages were available, they told us we should quickly go through Nusuk. The website it crashing and full and everyone already put through their eWallets for Hajj, but now we are behind. Even though we made contact in February to be ahead! What are we paying these people for? I am still waiting for a refund of the money we sent and even a response. Completely unprofessional and scammy. The experience for Umrah was great, but this place will not follow through or give you respect for Hajj.

Dishonest and scams

Dishonest and scams, on top worst costumer service, I booked a umrah luxe with double, we ended up in triple room with tiny bed, they said that there is a guide, no guide no service, the driver does not speak neither English nor Arabic, and on top of that when I asked him to stop in one of the ziarat, he said “ if I stop, I will let there , I can not wait for you “ And when I came back home, I called to complain, the guy was rude, dishonest and liar , when I told him that I booked for double and we were in triple, he said “yes because we gave an upgrade “ which was a lie it was the same hotels from the beginning. I don’t advise people to go with them, they are not professionals at all,

This is in reference to a scam and a fraud perpetuated by an Online Travel portal [email protected] that is booking reservations for online customers on Etihad flights by taking their credit card information and sending reservation confirmations via email but do not disclose the baggage policy/allowance that passengers are entitled to for the stated flight/fare price on Etihad airline. Their website does NOT disclose any baggage information for customers booking reservations! They delay sending the airline confirmations and e-ticket information for hours and days, and then call the customers regarding their reservations and when questioned state that only personal items are allowed on the flights and that baggage fees are additional and that customers must pay for baggage. This is a SCAM and a FRAUD perpetrated by this online travel agency to exhort additional fees which brings discredit to the integrity and reputation of Etihad airlines. Upon our  investigation  we find numerous dishonest and fraudulent practices by this agency that have generated many complaints from customers. https://www.yelp.com/biz/fareporto-miami We were going to be charged over $4000 on our American Express credit card for tickets, but immediately becoming aware of the scam we promptly notified American Express of the scam and requested to cancel the fraudulent transaction thus preventing any charges to our credit card and a major financial loss to my family. We have found that this agency is based in Miami, Florida USA with Tel Nos. 866-645-3488(No Answer) and 833-442-2661(unable to reach an agent). Since this incident is part of a major fraud scheme prevalent in the USA, we have decided to bring this fraudulent activity to the attention of law enforcement authorities in Florida namely The Office of Attorney General, State of Florida, The Capital -PL01, Tallahassee FL 32399 so that both Etihad airline and law enforcement authorities can investigate this SCAM and have these unscrupulous travel agencies to face justice, thus avoiding great disrepute and embarrassment to Etihad airline and pain and suffering to many customers like us. We urge you to investigate this fraud and take immediate action to prevent prospective and loyal Etihad customers from being victimized.

This company is a ripoff they cancel your flights and want you to pay triple times the amount save your self the head ache.

100% SCAM!! DO NOT BUY A FAKE AIRLINE TICKET THAT YOU WILL NEVER RECEIVE. They will charge your card and try to charge more after telling you that bags are not allowed. They try to get you to upgrade and pay $300 to bring luggage!! What a freakn joke! I'm glad they didn't money from me! Book your ticket directly with the airline.

I used Fareporto to find a reasonably priced first-class ticket. The site immediately returned my search with exactly what I needed. I completed the transaction and it showed me that my reservation was successful. Five minutes later I received a call stating that my reservation was for restricted coach (no refunds, no luggage, etc.). I was told that I could upgrade to First, but I would have to pay more than what the airline even charged for the seat. They tried to tell me that this was a system glitch, but I wasn't buying it (pun intended). This service is incredibly deceptive in its processes, and I would recommend not using them, but if you do use them, keep a tight hold on your wallet.

Worst fraudulent company, I purchased a flight when agent Marcos called me and said that for the price of $202 I couldn't take a backpack if I wanted to I would have to pay $402, of course I didn't agree and even though it was within 24 hours I couldn't cancel, on the website When we buy, there is no warning about this rule about not taking personal objects. I didn't agree and he said he was going to issue the ticket anyway and the strangest thing is that on the website the airline was Spirit and he said buy airline lines.

WARNING! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS FAREPORTO Nightmare would be my first description. After reading other reviews on here it is the exact scam i am currently dealing with. The Scam goes like this. 1. Cheaper flight than any other after market ticket sales company 2. They get your information after you *THINK you have purchased your ticket. 3. Next day they are calling you to upsell you on a different or upgraded ticket. 4. I decline the erroneous offer. And ask NOT to be contacted and to ticket my flight or refund my money. 5. Despite threatening legal action and a denial of funds...They continue to call and email 4 or more times a day for many more days. Now my dilemma is, will they still try and charge me for a ticket as I look for a reputable ticket company to try and purchase new tickets..? Good Luck & safe travels..

We purchased 5 round trip flights from Fareporto for our family to travel for our daughter's wedding. I called to ask about getting a confirmation number (it states "4 hours or so" before we can receive one). They didn't have it yet, but the representative, Alvin, told me that it could take 4 to 24 or 48 hours to receive one and that our flight was not guaranteed - it was based on whether or not there would be seats available, etc. He then proceeded to explain the restrictions with this airfare, which were nowhere on their website or on the booking page. Of these restrictions, we could bring no checked bags, no carry-ons. There is no disclaimer of any kind informing customers of their restrictions (others include checking in in person only, no ability to select seats). When I asked the representative why this information wasn't present prior to purchasing, he said it's the airline's restrictions - it comes from them. Later in the call he said it was because of Fareporto's - that it is because the flights are so cheap so they don't give the restrictions. He said if it didn't say we COULD bring luggage, then we should assume we couldn't. Made zero sense. Earlier in the call I asked if I could please get a copy of the recording of this phone call and he said yes. Later in the call he said no, they are not authorized to do so. Throughout this call, the representative's main objective was to sell me the ability to lift all four of the restrictions, including bringing luggage. The total for this "upgrade" was going to cost more than the total of the initial purchase of 5 flights. I told Alvin that I could have purchased these flights on Southwest and he told me there were no flights on Southwest from Houston to Cancun. He was wrong, and admitted as much after looking it up for himself. The hard sell tactics kept coming. He then offered me the Southwest flights, but again, I would have to pay an additional $805. I just received a call from Alvin and was informed that our flight would have to be changed due to the fact that there were no seats available on the flight we purchased. BUT, he could still offer me the Southwest flights for the additional $805. I won't disclose how we are proceeding at this time, but they will not be getting our money. Read Google reviews. Like others have said on the Google reviews, if I could give zero stars, I would. I am writing this review for the sole purpose of saving others from getting caught up in this scam. I hope this helps someone.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY This company is dishonest and they will bait you into thinking you purchased a cheap flight. After you provide your credit card info the company refused to send me my confirmed ticket. I purchased on March 15 and by March 19 the representative tells me that the ticket I purchased is a stand by ticket! Who purchases stand by international flight? After that I was told that my ticket does not allow any luggage (carry on or check in). The email I received clearly stated economy ticket not stand by ticket. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

Fraud people I booked tickets showing less price and then next morning a guy brought up all hidden charges out, saying the ticket was with restricted facilities. I booked ticket from SFO to LHR. On booking they never informed me about what restrictions are there. BIG restriction was - No luggage allowed. Crap, who will travel internationally without any luggage. These guys are fraud. Creating situation where they trap cusotmers into situation where now customer needs to go for upgrades. Long story short - I wasted my many hours, don't want to waste your time with long reviews. I would just tell you in one line. Don't trust ever FarePorto. This is fraud company. I am going to file complaint against them in next 2 days if they are not refunding my money. And would also advice everyone to file the complaint against fareporto.com on following sites. These official agencies will definitely take strict actions on them. 1) The state consumer protection office where you live or where the travel company is located (travel company is located Florida) 2) The FTC 3) Your local Better Business Bureau

Big Mistake, I recommend myself included before buying any tickets that looks too good to be true on cheap websites to read reviews first, that way I am not going to be in the position I am now. I was a victim also with that company. Hopefully this help for others not to buy from this website.

Whether you’re a seasoned travel pro, jet-setting around the globe to experience many cultures and cuisines, or a bona fide urban explorer who loves top-notch service and amenities, a sojourn at The Peninsula Chicago is a welcome breath of fresh air. From the best Chinese fare in the city at the Shanghai Terrace to the signature massages in the spa to the sought-after location near the Windy City’s top attractions, they just do everything right. And if you love a diverse collection of consistently evolving and revolving art, you’ll certainly be engaged by what you see here.

In June, I checked into The Peninsula Chicago, within easy walking distance to the John Hancock Center, Museum of Contemporary Art, and shopping along the Magnificent Mile for a blissful staycation to usurp all others. As a seasoned Chicago-based travel writer who has her finger on the pulse of the city’s best hotels, restaurants, and newfangled happenings, I can tell you that this jewel, which has been a World’s Best Awards winner numerous times over, definitely deserves its many earned awards and accolades.

I knew I was in the right place when I spotted the multi-hued and vibrant Kehinde Wiley oil painting on linen, on loan from the Pizzuti Collection, hanging in the lobby. Wiley is, of course, known for his works of African Americans, painted in the style of Old Masters — including Chicago’s own, former President Barack Obama. Another exclusive privilege with a stay at The Peninsula Chicago is access to the Krigler fragrance brand, with origins dating back to 1904. Only offered at luxury hotels in four countries, this hotel is the single place where you can peruse the perfumes in the city. Whether you choose a scent worn by Jackie Kennedy (Lovely Patchouli 55) or Grace Kelly (Chateau Krigler 12), you’ll adore lighting up your olfactory senses in this tiny boutique.

Here’s my review of The Peninsula Chicago, an exquisite five-star hotel where Far Eastern charm and cordiality meet Midwestern hospitality.

The Peninsula Chicago

• Nestled in a delightful pocket with soft ambient lighting, large trees stretching out of marble planters, the hum of urban traffic and chatter, and Chicago’s most famous architecture in full view, the Shanghai Terrace offers delectable fare and an unforgettable ambiance.
• From handy chargers and outlets in a drawer near the bed to tablet technology that allows you to control the temperature, dim the lights, request housekeeping, or read the New York Times, the in-room experience is thoughtful, accessible, and user-friendly.
• The floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to see Chicago’s dazzling skyline from the indoor swimming pool, hot tub, or outdoor sun terrace.
• The Peninsula Chicago collaborates with art partners and displays well-curated art throughout its public spaces.
• Spa treatments, which use Biologique Recherche products, are inspired by Ayurvedic and Asian philosophies.

“Our rooms are among the largest in the city and are light and airy in feel,” says Maria Zec, the regional executive vice president for the U.S. and the managing director at The Peninsula Chicago. “The Peninsula Suite is our top suite and can be one to three bedrooms for up to 4,000 square feet, with a 2,000 square foot wrap-around outdoor terrace overlooking Lake Michigan and the John Hancock building.”

I stayed in a Premier Deluxe Suite with sliding panel doors separating the bedroom from the living room. The views of Water Tower Place and the Hancock building immediately grabbed my attention when I entered the room, but it was the personalized digital art displayed on the flat screen, complete with photographs of me playing roller derby with the Windy City Rollers, that made my eyes go wide. At turn down, I found the same unique art framed at my bedside and custom-made stickers on a water bottle. This felt above and beyond, and the effort surprised me and touched me.

Further, the room's tech details are intentional and well thought out. You can select amenities like breathe-right strips, European or buckwheat pillows, eye masks, or extra towels and water from a tablet. Digital newspapers, in-room controls, dining menus, and airport arrival and departure information are at your fingertips. The large desk is stocked with office supplies, including a fax and printer, which I appreciate as someone who often works while traveling.

Movement and texture are brilliantly incorporated into the room’s design. Custom Fili D’oro linens have a subtle wave pattern; the headboard has a beautiful knobby texture; the desk area has a large slab of marble that looks like the rings of a tree; and the engineered wood has a horizontal pattern reminiscent of the Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie style, a wonderful nod to Chicago. I especially liked the refined blue pops of color — in the curtains, pillows, and artwork, as they stand out from the overall neutral palette and tie the space to the Windy City’s beloved Lake Michigan and Chicago River. The large artwork hanging behind the couch has hand-embroidered chrysanthemum flowers, Chicago’s official flower, and interestingly enough, this bloom is one of Asia’s noble flowers. Chrysanthemum flowers are also detailed on the custom-made dish sets. The thoughtful bond to the brand’s flagship property in Hong Kong, which has welcomed guests since 1928, is not lost on me.

“The Peninsula Chicago’s interior design is reminiscent of a grand European hotel of the Art Deco era,” says Zec. “A beautifully crafted stained-glass feature wall of greens and yellows by artist Paul Housberg in the Motor Lobby acknowledges Chicago’s rich stained-glass history and offers visitors a preview of the spectrum which awaits beyond.”

Five dining options are available throughout your stay, each with its own special flair and ambiance. Not to be missed, however, is the Shanghai Terrace, a spectacular Chinese restaurant with the most delicious dumplings in the city. To start, I ordered a Smoky Lapsang handcrafted cocktail, a perfect start to the evening with a bit of pomp and circumstance. Golden shrimp and vegetable dumplings came next, followed by the main course, recommended to me by front-of-house staff: a Chilean seabass in traditional Szechuan sauce. Sitting outdoors on The Terrace, surrounded by brilliant skyline views, was a good choice.

The Lobby is another beauty, with floor-to-ceiling windows, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Experience afternoon tea service, which is one of the best in Chicago. “The Art of Tea” is the current theme, which is a delightful experience for young sippers and their families. Enjoy sandwiches, scones, and pastries alongside a wide variety of hot tea. When I arrived, I witnessed the Australian artist Timothy Paul Myers install his dramatic felt custom-made creation, Alizarin. “All of these found objects are hand-wrapped in felt,” Myers says. “I find it incredibly interesting to think about the history of the object, the people who have interacted with these objects, and the wrapping is a way of archiving.” Myer created this large-scale piece specifically for The Peninsula Hong Kong, and it will travel to other properties in the brand when it leaves Chicago. “The highlight is the tea service in The Lobby, so we created this piece, an abstracted tea service, as public-facing art,” Myers says. “My hope is that this piece creates a lot of conversation and maybe changes the air in the space in a dynamic way.”

Z Bar, situated just above Michigan Avenue, lets you feel fully immersed in the city’s magnetism while you nosh on sharables and small plates. Be sure to look up once at the bar — there’s a beautiful cutout, a nod to the famous Cloud Gate sculpture (“The Bean”). The Z is the signature cocktail here, named after Maria Zec, the first female general manager for Peninsula Hotels over 24 years ago.

Pierrot Gourmet, a European café and wine bar, is filled with locals and travelers, giving you a genuine Chicago dining experience. Its light and bright interior and lively outdoor patio are pretty lovely.

The final option is always a good one for enjoying international cuisine at your leisure: in-room dining.

Get a jump on the day with a workout in the fitness center, a gym with excellent city views, or a yoga class. Compliment your exercise with a dip in the half-Olympic-length indoor swimming pool or a soak in the jetted hot tub. I loved lounging on the alfresco sun terrace, a great place to read a book and relish the fantastic views.

“The fitness center was recently upgraded with new TechnoGym weight equipment, new flooring throughout the fitness center and yoga studio, and a new Barre was added in the studio,” says Zec.

The Peninsula spa and wellness center operates on the 19th and 20th floors of the building. Indulge in a massage or facial treatment, and leave time to relax in the lounge, complete with a fireplace, comfy chaise lounge sofas, and hot tea. I took advantage of the steam room to fully relax before my signature massage. Be sure to bring a swimsuit to fully experience the space and nearby swimming pool and hot tub.

“Treatments feature products by French-based Biologique Recherche, Subtle Energies from Australia, and Antara Organics, a CBD line,” says Zec.

Unique, family-friendly offerings abound. Whether you need a babysitter to enjoy a night out or book a kids’ manicure and pedicure at The Peninsula Spa for a special mother-and-child experience, you’ll find accommodating support here. The Camp Peninsula Package, for example, includes a complimentary tent set-up with camping-themed treats and a plush campfire. Other in-room amenities like child-sized robes, slippers, and baby bathtime sets are sure to impress.

“We are accessible to guests throughout the hotel, including the spa, our guestrooms, our restaurants, and banquet space,” says Zec. “We have had a sustainability program for many years now — we are EarthCheck Gold -certified.”

Location, location, location: The Peninsula Chicago, which takes up an entire city block, is near it all. “Peninsula Hotels always are in the best location in each destination,” says Zec.

Spend time in the iconic Millennium Park, explore the Chicago Riverwalk, enjoy an architecture cruise, shop on the Magnificent Mile, snap photos in front of the Chicago Water Tower, and carve out time for the city’s best art museums, like the Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Contemporary Art. The beaches along Lake Michigan are ideal for outdoor family-friendly fun, and Broadway in Chicago offers enchanting theater opportunities.

To get the most value out of your stay, book online. You can also obtain a membership to the spa and receive discounts on rooms and restaurants. “Consider staying during the first quarter when business levels are generally slower in the city,” says Zec. “When booking two weeks in advance, the rate is reduced.”

Another way to make the most of your trip is to talk to the amiable staff directly — everyone is eager to assist. “Forty percent of staff have been at the hotel for 10-plus years, which also allows our staff to develop relationships with our guests,” says Zec.

An NDP MP who frequently joins parliamentary proceedings remotely from her riding billed the House of Commons for a trip she took to reportedly meet with "stakeholders" over the Christmas holidays in Quebec — travel that included bringing her husband and kids along at taxpayers' expense.

Parliamentary travel records indicate NDP MP Niki Ashton was only in Ottawa on one occasion for four days during the fall 2022 sitting.

But on Dec. 21 of that year, Ashton flew from Thompson, Man. to Ottawa — five days after the House of Commons had already risen for its Christmas break.

Ashton's partner Bruce Moncur, a former NDP nomination candidate, and their two children also made the trip with the MP to the nation's capital.

Then, on Christmas Day, 2022, the family of four travelled to Quebec City. Ashton billed the Commons for some of the expenses they incurred along the way.

Social media posts show Moncur and the children took in some of Quebec City's winter attractions, including an ice slide and snow tubing at Village Vacances Valcartier outside the city centre.

Ashton is also seen in those posts skating with her children and visiting the city's German Christmas Market.

In an Instagram post, Ashton thanked "progressive activists" for sharing their "inspiring work."

The trip cost taxpayers $17,641.12, including $13,619.90 for airfare and other transportation, $2,508.39 for accommodations and $1,512.83 for meals and other incidentals, according to Commons records.

Ashton justified billing taxpayers for the trip by claiming she was going to Quebec City to "attend meetings with stakeholders about business of the House" over the holidays, according to House of Commons travel records.

Ashton's office referred inquiries about the travel to a party spokesperson.

Reached by phone Wednesday, an NDP spokesperson said Ashton was in the provincial capital "to discuss language priorities" because she's the party's critic for official languages and needed to "find out things she needs to prioritize."

Ashton also "met with a union person," the spokesperson said.

On Dec. 30, 2022, Ashton, Moncur and their children then travelled to Montreal. Ashton again cited "meetings with stakeholders" as the reason for claiming expenses.

NDP MP questioned about Quebec trip with family paid by taxpayers

The NDP spokesperson said Ashton was again engaging with people about "linguistic issues" while in the province's biggest city.

The family returned to Ottawa on New Year's Eve before flying home to Thompson early in the new year.

At a press conference on another matter on Thursday, Ashton was asked repeatedly who she met with while in Quebec.

Ashton would only say that it was "various people" who are "connected to the issue of French language, French culture preservation." She said she wanted to get feedback on an overhaul of the Official Languages Act from unnamed groups.

Asked if she regretted the Christmas season trip, Ashton said the travel was approved by Commons administration and her job involves "travel and meeting with stakeholders, engaging with stakeholders."

The NDP spokesperson said Ashton "paid out of pocket" for some additional expenses incurred on statutory holidays like Christmas Day.

The spokesperson added that some of the trip expenses were related to the family staying at a hotel while in Ottawa — and not at her second residence in the city — because her apartment was being treated for bed bugs.

The spokesperson said Ashton is in Ottawa less often than some of her colleagues because she's the mother of two young children and participating virtually — which is permissible under the rules — is a better fit for her schedule.

In a media statement sent to CBC News, Alana Cahill, the party's director of communications, said Ashton is "a strong representative for the people of northern Manitoba" who "sometimes travels to other parts of the country in order to meet with experts and advocates on the infrastructure challenges facing northern, rural communities and for work related to her critic portfolios."

"House of Commons rules allow members of Parliament to travel for parliamentary business. Niki followed all the rules and the House of Commons approved her travel expenses," Cahill added.

'It smells really fishy' - CTF director

Franco Terrazzano is the federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a group that advocates for lower taxes and more accountable government. He said Ashton's travel "looks really bad and it smells really fishy."

"If Ashton doesn't want Canadians to think that she billed taxpayers so she could take a vacation to Quebec over the holidays, then she better have a very good explanation, a very concrete explanation as to what value, if any, taxpayers actually got from this trip," Terrazzano told CBC News.

He said "ordinary Canadians" are struggling with the cost of living and they get frustrated seeing MPs charge for substantial travel expenses.

"Did taxpayers get more than $17,000 in value out of this trip? Maybe she could have saved taxpayers a whole bunch of money by picking up the phone instead — especially if Ashton is already Zooming into the parliamentary procedures," he said.

Terrazzano said there needs to be greater oversight of MP travel expenses and he's calling for some sort of "review" of what's allowable under the rules to prevent abuse.

Nearly $10,000 for a trip to Windsor

On another trip in May 2023, Ashton travelled — again with Moncur and her kids — to Windsor, Ont. where Moncur grew up and went to school and university.

The six-day trip to Windsor happened as Ashton was travelling infrequently to Ottawa for parliamentary proceedings.

Travel records suggest she was physically in the nation's capital for fewer than 30 days — including some weekends — over the first six months of 2023.

The Commons sat for 70 weekdays over the same time period.

Unlike senators, MPs can participate in debate and committee meetings virtually under pandemic-era rules that were made permanent in 2023.

The Windsor trip cost taxpayers $9,748.03 — all of it for airfare. Ashton did not charge for any accommodations or incidentals.

Ashton flew there to "attend meetings about constituency issues," according to the Commons travel records.

The NDP spokesperson said Ashton was in Windsor to meet with people associated with a "soccer recreation centre," to learn about "federal funding to create some soccer opportunities in northern Manitoba for Indigenous folks."

Ashton has in the past encouraged the federal government and FIFA, soccer's governing body, to invest more money so that more Indigenous youth can play the game.

While in Windsor, Ashton also travelled across the border to Detroit to meet with Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Talib, the NDP spokesperson said.

Rules allow MPs to take family on some official trips

The Commons' travel system allocates a certain number of points to an MP each year for travel.

But each trip must have "a specific purpose of travel and be for the purpose of the fulfilment of the Member's parliamentary functions," the Commons rules say.

The rules loosely define "parliamentary functions" as activities "relating to the proceedings and work of the House of Commons and activities undertaken in representing his or her constituency or constituents."

The rules do stipulate that "parliamentary functions" do not include "activities related to the private interests of a member or a member's immediate family."

The points can be used by a member to travel between Ottawa and their constituency, for travel within their constituency and for travel from Ottawa or the constituency to their provincial or territorial capital.

Some of the points can also be used for what the Commons calls "special trips" — other trips within Canada.

An MP can allocate some of their points to cover the travel costs of a "designated traveller" chosen by them — typically a spouse. An MP's dependents are also eligible to have some of their travel covered.

The rules stipulate that designated travellers and dependents can use points to "reunite" with an MP at their Ottawa residence or "at another location where the member is carrying out parliamentary functions."

Under the rules, MPs, designated travellers and dependents can travel in business class if the flight is more than two hours long.

Terrazzano said MPs should think "about what their constituents would say" before taking big-ticket trips. He also said the Commons should consider tightening the rules on when MPs can be accompanied by their families on subsidized trips.

Asked about Ashton's expenses, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said MPs have to follow strict rules in submitting their expenses to the House of Commons.

"I expect all my MPs and all MPs in the House to follow those rules and submit claims," Singh told reporters on Thursday. "Those claims were submitted and approved."

Last month, CBC News reported on a loophole in the rules that allows MPs and senators to charge Parliament for travel to party conventions.

Under the Commons rules, MPs can claim expenses related to national caucus meetings, which are considered part of their parliamentary duties.

Conservative MPs billed the House of Commons $426,283 to attend a caucus meeting associated with the party's policy convention in Quebec City in September 2023, including $331,699 for travel, $71,408 for accommodations and $21,053 for meals and incidentals.

NDP MPs also billed Parliament $83,087 to send MPs and a dozen of their employees to a caucus meeting associated with the party's convention in Hamilton in October 2023, according to a CBC News review of travel claims.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau routinely faces criticism over his travel.

Trudeau's 10-day vacation with his family at Prospect Estate near Ocho Rios in Jamaica cost taxpayers $230,442. Most of that was for security-related costs, which MPs don't have.

Wave of summer travel expected over July Fourth holiday as hot inflation loosens grip

NEW YORK (AP) — Travel activity is expected to heat up to record levels around the Independence Day holiday as consumers take advantage of cooler prices for airfares, gasoline and hotels.

AAA expects a record number of people to hit roads and airports during the week between Saturday June 29 through Sunday, July 7. The motor club forecasts that roughly 70.9 million people are planning to travel, the most since before the pandemic.

The hot travel forecast comes amid broader worries that consumers are becoming more cautious on spending outside of necessities, which is a key factor to a cooling economy. Inflation has eased significantly from its peak in 2022, notably on costs for travel and vacations.

“With summer vacations in full swing and the flexibility of remote work, more Americans are taking extended trips around Independence Day,” said Paula Twidale, Senior Vice President of AAA Travel.

The forecast, along with encouraging financial updates from cruise lines, bodes well for a sector that would typically suffer if consumers start cutting back on discretionary items and services.

Airports are seeing record numbers of travelers this summer. The Transportation Security Administration screened nearly 3 million people at U.S. airports June 23, an all-time high. The agency expects the number of air travelers to surpass 3 million at some point over the July 4 holiday week.

Consumers continue to face pressure from inflation on a wide range of goods, but travel-related items including airline tickets and hotel costs have eased significantly from a year ago. Hotel room prices were 1.2% lower in May compared with a year ago, according to recent government inflation data. Those costs have been trending lower since the beginning of the year.

Gasoline prices, which can have an outsized impact on consumer budgets, have generally eased from a year ago. Regular gasoline prices currently average $3.51 per gallon nationally, down 2 cents from a year ago, according to AAA.

Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Marriott, and Hilton will likely be the biggest beneficiaries of consumer demand for travel this summer, according to Morgan Stanley. Still, the “rising tide of demand should continue to lift all boats,” the report said.

Cruise lines are also poised to benefit. Carnival recently raised its profit forecast for the year and said bookings for 2024 are the best on record in terms of both price and occupancy. It said total customer deposits reached an all-time high of $8.3 billion during its fiscal second quarter and it expects capacity to grow 4.8% in 2024. Competitor Royal Caribbean has also raised its forecasts for the year.

While I knew taking the MacBook Pro was probably a better option, I was intrigued by the possibility of using the M4 iPad Pro as my main computer and trying to discover if I could get the job done. Here’s how it went.

Making sure the M4 iPad Pro wouldn’t let me down

Before traveling, I made sure all the apps I needed to perform my job as a tech news reporter worked properly, especially while running iPadOS 18 beta 1. In my case, Slack, my e-mail app, Microsoft Edge or Safari, and Pixelmator needed to be working smoothly.

I took the iPad for the fun, but work needed to be done

The main reason why I took the M4 iPad Pro with me was because I wanted to conveniently watch my TV shows and movies during the long hours of the flight. While I could’ve taken both devices, I knew it would be too much – and I also wanted to see if the iPad Pro could replace my Mac for business trips.

The overall experience was fine, but I had two main issues that I think could have been avoided with a MacBook: RAM management and Grammarly incompatibility.

The other issue was with the language barrier. As a non-native English speaker, I often need to double-check my spelling with Grammarly. While it works pretty consistently with the Mac, I had many, many issues with it on the iPad, such as:

• Grammarly doesn’t work with Apple’s Magic Keyboard
• When I asked for Grammarly suggestions, it wasn’t able to give me options to rephrase a sentence
• I had to tap paragraph by paragraph to get Grammarly insights (while also removing the iPad from the Magic Keyboard)
• Recommendations weren’t that accurate

There’s something charming about the iPad’s workflow

Even with these problems, I still enjoyed using the iPad Pro during my travels. Not only it’s a beautiful piece of hardware, but it also has the quickness of an iOS device.

Of course, this is only possible thanks to the Magic Keyboard, which enhances the iPad experience. Otherwise, the iPad’s keyboard would take up half the screen, and I wouldn’t be able to work as fast as I needed to.

Does the M4 iPad Pro can replace a laptop?

It all depends on your needs. For me, the Mac offers the most reliable work experience. However, there’s no issue with wanting a funnier experience. The iPad Pro has been great for me as a journalist, and I’m sure it also works well for designers and many other professionals.

For my next business trip, I’ll still consider taking the iPad with me. Eventually, I might sell the MacBook Pro and keep my Mac Studio for working at home and the iPad Pro for working outdoors.
