While browsing the web in Safari, it’s common to need to download files from different websites. But sometimes it can be a challenge to find where these Safari downloads are saved.

Below are several ways to find and manage Safari downloads on your Mac.

How to Download Files Using Safari

There are different ways to save items from Safari to your Mac , depending on the type of item you want to save. While some items in webpages can’t be downloaded, files, images, software, and apps often come with a dedicated download button. Otherwise, Control-click or two-finger tap an item to save or download it.

It’s best not to download software or apps if they aren’t from a trusted source.

Where to Find Safari Downloads on a Mac

Unless you’ve chosen otherwise, items that you’ve downloaded from Safari automatically go to your Downloads folder. To find this, open Finder and click Downloads from the sidebar or press Cmd + Option + L .

You can change where your downloaded files save, if you want:

  • Head to Safari > Preferences .
  • Click the General tab. Go to File download location , then choose from the popup. Select Ask for each download if you want to be in more control of each download.
  • If you want to select a specific destination, click Other and select your desired folder.

Use the Downloads Button in Safari

Quickly access your downloads in Safari by clicking the Downloads button, a downward arrow enclosed in a circle icon on the top-right of the Safari window. Note that this won’t appear unless you’ve recently downloaded an item.

Open the Downloads Stack in the Dock

Another way to immediately access your downloaded files is through the Dock. Your recent downloads are often found on the right side of the Dock in a stack. Hover over it to preview the contents or click to expand it.

Open the Downloads Folder in Finder

As we already mentioned, you can also find your Safari downloads using Finder. This is a valuable utility to locate items on our Mac. Simply click the magnifying button on your menu bar and type "downloads," or go to your Dock and click Finder to open the Finder window.

You can usually find the Downloads folder in the sidebar, under Favorites.

How to Manage Your Safari Downloads

There are several ways to manage your in-progress or completed downloads in Safari. To perform these actions, open the Downloads menu in Safari itself. Here’s what you can do:

  • Pause Downloads: If you’re currently downloading, click the stop button beside the file name to pause the download, then click the resume button to resume it again.
  • Remove a downloaded item: If you want to remove a single item from the list, Control-click the item and select Remove from List . You can also remove all your recently downloaded items by clicking Clear in the top right of the popup.

By default, Safari automatically deletes downloaded items after a day. If you want to change this:

  • Go to Safari > Preferences .
  • Click General , then go to Remove download list items . Choose from After one day , When Safari quits , Upon successful download , or Manually .

Understanding how to access your downloads in Safari is a fundamental skill that empowers users to effectively navigate their downloaded content. With this knowledge, users can confidently proceed to the next step of opening their downloaded files, which we will explore in the following section.

Step 2: Opening the Downloaded File

Once you have successfully accessed your downloads in Safari on your Mac, the next step is to open the downloaded file. Whether it's a document, an image, a compressed archive, or a software installer, Safari provides a seamless process for opening various types of downloaded files. Here's a detailed guide on how to open your downloaded file in Safari on a Mac:

Locate the Downloaded File: After accessing the Downloads window in Safari, browse through the list of downloaded files to locate the specific file you wish to open. The file names are typically displayed along with relevant details such as file size and download status.

Double-Click to Open: Once you have identified the downloaded file you want to open, simply double-click on the file name. Alternatively, you can right-click on the file and select "Open" from the context menu. This action will initiate the default behavior associated with the file type. For example, a PDF document will open in the default PDF viewer, while a software installer may prompt you to begin the installation process.

File Associations: Safari on Mac is designed to recognize common file types and associate them with the appropriate default applications. For instance, image files may open in the Preview app, while multimedia files may launch in the default media player. Understanding these file associations can help streamline the process of opening downloaded files, as Safari intuitively leverages the default applications for various file types.

Customizing File Associations: In some cases, you may prefer to open a specific file type with an application other than the default. To customize file associations, right-click on the file, select "Open With," and choose the desired application from the list. You can also set the chosen application as the default for opening that particular file type, ensuring that future downloads of the same type will automatically open in your preferred application.

Verifying File Integrity: Before opening downloaded files, especially software installers or compressed archives, it's advisable to verify the integrity of the file. This can be done by checking the file size and ensuring that it matches the expected size for the specific file type. Additionally, running a malware scan on downloaded executable files can help mitigate potential security risks.

Understanding how to troubleshoot these issues is essential for ensuring a smooth and efficient browsing experience. Here's a detailed exploration of common issues and troubleshooting tips:

Incomplete Downloads

One of the common issues users may encounter is incomplete downloads. This can occur due to network interruptions, server issues, or insufficient disk space. If you notice that a download is incomplete, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Check your internet connection to ensure it is stable.
  • Verify that there is sufficient disk space available on your Mac for the download to complete.
  • If the download remains incomplete, consider restarting the download process.

File Not Opening

Sometimes, users may experience difficulty in opening downloaded files. This can be attributed to file corruption, incompatible file formats, or issues with the default application association. To troubleshoot this issue, consider the following steps:

  • Verify the file format and ensure that it is supported by the default application or an alternative application installed on your Mac.
  • If the file appears to be corrupted, attempt to re-download it from the original source.
  • Check the default application association for the specific file type and consider opening the file with an alternative application.

Downloaded File Appears Empty

In certain cases, users may encounter downloaded files that appear to be empty or contain no data. This can be frustrating, especially when expecting valuable content. To address this issue, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Check the file size of the downloaded file to ensure it aligns with the expected size for the specific file type.
  • If the file appears to be empty, attempt to re-download it from the original source.
  • Consider the possibility of file corruption or an issue with the source of the download.

Security Warnings

When attempting to open certain downloaded files, users may encounter security warnings or alerts from their Mac's security features. While these warnings are designed to protect users from potential threats, they can sometimes impede the opening of legitimate files. To address security warnings, consider the following steps:

  • Verify the source of the downloaded file to ensure it is from a trusted and reputable website.

How to Download Files on Safari

It's free and super easy to set up

Safari is one of the most popular web browsers for Mac and iOS devices, and it offers efficient and easy-to-use download management features. In this article, we will explore the various methods to download files on Safari for both desktop and mobile devices. Let's get started!

Understanding Safari's Download Manager

Before we dive into the specifics of downloading files on Safari, it's essential to understand the download manager. The download manager is a built-in feature of Safari that allows you to see all the files you've downloaded, track their progress, and manage them.

One of the most significant advantages of Safari's download manager is its ability to work in the background. This feature is particularly useful when you need to download multiple files simultaneously without disrupting your browsing experience. With Safari's download manager, you can start and manage downloads while continuing to browse the internet.

How the Download Manager works

Safari's download manager is designed to work seamlessly with the browser. Once you start a download, you can see its status by clicking on the downloads arrow on the toolbar. You can also access the download manager from the Safari menu under the "Window" option.

When you access the download manager, you'll see a list of all the files you've downloaded. The list is divided into three categories: ongoing downloads, completed downloads, and items still stuck midway. This categorization makes it easy to manage your downloads and keep track of their progress.

Another useful feature of Safari's download manager is its ability to resume interrupted downloads. If your internet connection is interrupted, or you accidentally close the browser, you can easily resume the download from where it left off.

Accessing the Download Manager

There are two ways to open the Download Manager in Safari. The first method is to click the downloads arrow on the toolbar. The second method is to use the "Option+Command+L" keyboard shortcut. When the Download Manager appears, you can see ongoing downloads, completed downloads, and items still stuck midway. You can also pause and resume downloads or cancel them if necessary.

Overall, Safari's download manager is a powerful and useful tool that makes downloading files a breeze. Its ability to work in the background, resume interrupted downloads, and categorize files makes it an essential feature for anyone who frequently downloads files from the internet.

Enabling and Customizing Safari Downloads

Safari is a powerful and versatile web browser that comes with a lot of customization options. One of the most important features of Safari is its download manager, which allows you to easily download files from the internet. In this article, we will show you how to customize your download settings in Safari.

Adjusting download settings

Once you're in the Preferences menu, click on the "General" tab. Under "File Download Location," you can choose where you want your downloads to be saved. You can select a specific folder on your computer, or choose to have Safari ask you every time you download a file where you want to save it.

Customizing your download settings can help you stay organized and keep your files in order. You can create a dedicated folder for your downloads, or choose to save them to your desktop for easy access.

Choosing a download location

Sometimes you may need to change the download location temporarily. Fortunately, Safari makes it easy to do so. If you want to find a downloaded file, click on the downloads arrow on the toolbar. From there, you can see a list of all your recent downloads. If you want to open the folder where Safari downloads all your files, select "Show in Finder." This will open the folder where all your downloaded files are stored, and you can easily move them to a new location.

By default, Safari saves all downloaded files to your Downloads folder. However, you can change this setting to any folder you like. This can be especially useful if you want to keep your downloads organized by project or category.

Managing automatic downloads

Safari has a feature that automatically downloads files that it considers "safe." However, if you don't want Safari to automatically download files without your permission, you can turn off automatic downloads. To do this, go to "Preferences" in the Safari menu, then click on the "General" tab. Uncheck the box next to "Open safe files after download," and Safari will no longer download files automatically.

This can be useful if you're worried about accidentally downloading a virus or malware. By disabling automatic downloads, you can ensure that you only download files that you trust.

Safari's download manager is a powerful tool that can help you stay organized and keep your files in order. By customizing your download settings, you can make sure that your files are saved exactly where you want them. Whether you're downloading work files or personal documents, Safari makes it easy to manage your downloads and keep your computer organized.

Downloading Files on Safari for Desktop

Safari for desktop offers two ways of downloading files:

Downloading files with a single click

To download a file with a single click, click on the download link and wait for the file to start downloading. You can see the download progress by clicking on the downloads arrow on the toolbar.

Downloading files with a right-click

Alternatively, you can download files by using the right-click menu and selecting "Download Linked File." This option is useful if you want to save files with a specific name or location.

Viewing and managing downloaded files

Once a file has been downloaded, you can access it from the Downloads Manager by clicking on the downloads arrow. If you need to view the file or open it, click on it, and it will open in the default application for that file.

Downloading Files on Safari for iOS

Downloading files on Safari for iOS devices is just as straightforward as desktop. Here's how:

Downloading files on iPhone and iPad

To download files on an iOS device, tap on the download link, and Safari will automatically start downloading the file. You can view the progress of the download by swiping down from the top of the screen to see the "Downloads" tab in Safari.

Accessing downloaded files in the Files app

All downloaded files on iOS are stored in the Files app. To access a downloaded file, open the Files app and tap on "Downloads." From there, you can see and manage your downloaded files.

Managing downloads on iOS devices

You can pause and resume downloads on iOS devices by tapping the "Resume" or "Pause" button in the "Downloads" tab of Safari.

With Safari, downloading files is a breeze, and you don't have to worry about managing them manually. Whether you're on a desktop or mobile device, Safari has everything you need to manage your downloads effectively. Happy downloading!

Let's set you up !

How to download files using Safari on a Mac

Henry Burrell

Safari is Apple’s own internet browser and is the default browser app on all iMacs and MacBooks. If you’re on the web and want to download a file, it’s easy enough to do so using Safari.

You can download all manner of files – images, videos, documents and more, but sometimes given the open file system of a Mac it can be hard to keep track of where those files download to.

Here we’ll show you how to download files using Safari on a Mac, how to find them once they have downloaded, and how to change the location they download to should you wish to.

How to find the Downloads folder on a Mac

The first thing to know is that out of the box, all Macs will download files from Safari to the same location. This is, unsurprisingly, called the Downloads folder.

To find the Downloads folder, click on the Finder in the Dock and then select Downloads from the list of folders in the Finder.

How to find the downloads folder on a Mac

Here you can see on the Apple website a link to download images of the AirPods Pro. In this instance you can left click and the files will begin to download. This is because it is a direct download link.

For other files such as static images, right click the file and click Save Image As, where you can select where to save the file. As you can see below in newer versions of macOS, the menu gives you the option to Save Image to “Downloads”, the folder which is the default location for all file downloads on Safari on all Macs.

Right click to save image on Safari on Mac

Once you’ve started the download, a status bar appears marked by a downward arrow icon on the top right of the Safari window. Once the files have downloaded, you can access them by clicking on the downward arrow icon, or by opening Finder and locating the Downloads folder as described higher up this page.

From here you can view, edit or delete the files you’ve downloaded from Safari.

How to change where files from Safari download to

While we’d recommend keeping the Downloads folder as the default place for your Safari downloads to go to, you can change the default download location if you need to.

To do this, open Safari, click on Safari in the top toolbar and then click preferences, then click General. On this menu click the drop down box next to File download location, and then select a new destination folder for Safari downloads to be saved in.

You can change this default location at any time, or come back to this menu if you can’t remember what you set it to in the first place.

How to manage Safari downloads on iPhone and iPad

Nidhi

While surfing the web or accessing our email, we tend to download files on our iPhone and iPad. Initially, it all looks good. Eventually, with the files piling one after another, you start feeling the need to manage Safari downloads.

In your work or personal life, you'll sometimes need to download a file on your iPhone or iPad. Using the new feature introduced in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, you can now do this directly in Safari. No third-party app needed!

Safari's download manager is a hidden new feature in the  iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 updates. If you're going about your day, browsing the web, you probably won't be aware of the feature. Instead, it comes up when you tap on a download link.

Go to a web page and find the link for a file you want to download. When you select it, you'll see a popup with the filename asking if you want to download it. Tap on the "Download" button.

The download will start, and you'll see a new "Downloads" button appear next to the address bar at the top of the browser. Tap on the button to reveal all current downloads. From here, you can monitor the progress of multiple downloads.

If you want to stop a download at any time, simply tap on the "X" button.

Once the download is finished, tap on the file to preview it. If you've downloaded a media file, image, or a PDF, you'll be able to see it in the preview window.

You can then share the file to any app. Tap on the "Share" button from the bottom-left corner.

Press the "Search" icon next to the filename in the Downloads section to open the file.

Once you open the file in the Files app, you can tap and hold on the file to reveal the menu.

From here, tap on "Delete" to delete the file.

By default, the downloaded files are saved to the Downloads folder in iCloud Drive in the Files app. This is a great option if you have a paid iCloud storage plan  because it allows your downloaded files to instantly sync across all your devices.

But if you're on the free, 5GB tier, you might not have space for storing large files.

Thankfully, you can change the default location to local storage. Open the "Settings" app and go to Safari > Downloads. If you can't find the browser on your phone, try using Apple's Spotlight search to locate it.

Here, switch the selection to "On My iPhone" or "On My iPad" depending on your device.

By default, Safari will pick the "Downloads" folder. You can change this by tapping on the "Other" option to select any folder from the local storage (or from a cloud storage option).

The new download manager in Safari is exclusive to iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and above. If you haven't updated to the latest OS (which you should), or if you're in a situation where you can't update, here's a workaround for you.

Try using the free Documents 5 app by Readdle . It's an all-in-one browser and file manager app.

Open the Documents 5 app and tap on the "Browser" button in the bottom-right corner to switch to the browser mode.

Now, navigate to the page with the download link and tap on it. From the next screen, select the folder where you want to download the file and tap on "Done."

The download will now start. You can tap on the "Downloads" tab to view all downloads.

Tap on the "Files" button from the bottom-left corner to switch to the file manager. From here, tap on the "Downloads" folder to see your downloaded file. You can tap on the download to preview it in the app. Tap on the "Menu" button to view options for opening the file in another app.

What to know.

  • When downloading files from Safari, a Downloads button will appear, which shows any files you’ve downloaded in the past day.
  • Open the Settings app > Safari > Downloads to choose whether your downloads are stored on your iPhone or in iCloud.
  • To find all of your downloaded files, open the Files app > On My iPhone or iCloud Drive > Downloads.

how to show all downloads in safari

Like any web browser, you can use Safari to download files to your iPhone. But where do those downloads go after you save them? In this article, we’ll go over how exactly to find out where your downloaded files are located.

How to Get to Downloads on iPhone

How to find safari downloads on iphone, how to get to downloads using the files app.

Finding your downloaded files on iPhone can be a bit challenging since the Downloads button in Safari only appears when downloading files. For more ways to master Safari, like how to block or allow pop-ups , be sure to sign up for our Tip of the Day newsletter. Now, here’s how you can see the files that you downloaded in the last day.

Open Safari, and download something.

By default, Safari is set up so that this list will be cleared out after one day. This does not remove the downloaded file from your phone, but it will remove the downloads list from Safari. If you haven’t downloaded anything else in the last day, you likely won’t see it here. To access all of your downloads, you’ll need to head over to the Files app.

iPhone Life

If you haven’t downloaded anything recently or if you use another web browser, you can access your downloads in the Files app. But first, you need to check your Safari settings to find out if your Downloads folder is stored on your iPhone or in iCloud:

Open the Settings app, and tap Safari.

Regardless of where your downloaded files are stored, you will be able to access them from the Files app.

Now that you know where your Downloads folder is stored, let’s move over to the Files app to see how to get to Downloads on iPhone:

Open the Files app.

Note : If you use another web browser, you will see a folder for it in the On My iPhone folder (e.g. you will see a Firefox folder or a Chrome folder if you use those browsers). Your downloads from those browsers will be stored there.

That’s how to find your downloaded files on your iPhone! In the future, the quickest way to access your downloads is by going to the Files app. You can also save items from other apps to your Files app. Next, find out how to send large files on iPhone or iPad .

Where Do Downloads Go in Safari on iPhone or iPad?

how to show all downloads in safari

While browsing the web using Safari on your iPhone or iPad, you can download images, documents or PDFs by tapping links on websites. When you tap a link, a popup will appear saying, “Do you want to download ‘file.name’?” When you tap the Download option, the item will be downloaded onto your iPhone or iPad, and it will be saved to your default download location, which you can change.

It appears that some users are having trouble locating downloaded files. So how can you find them? Where is the Downloads folder?

Where to find Downloads in Safari

You can easily see the items that you have downloaded by tapping the AA icon at the left end of the Smart Search field in Safari and selecting Downloads, as you can see in the screenshot below. If you do not see the Downloads option, it means that your download list is empty. Depending on your settings, your list may be emptied automatically by Safari.

Download list

You may also notice a blue arrow. This blue arrow may appear next to the AA icon. This blue arrow icon indicates that you have recently downloaded an item.

Safari Download icon

As explained above, you can access the downloaded items in Safari. After you open Downloads, you can share, save, AirDrop, print or annotate the downloaded item. This is called the Downloads list. By default, this list will be emptied after one day. Note that just items in the list will be removed. Your downloaded file will still exist somewhere on your iPhone. There are a few settings you can customize.

Where are downloaded files saved on your iPhone or iPad?

By default, downloaded items will be saved in the Downloads folder in the Files app. This folder can be located in either iCloud Drive or On My iPhone. You can also change the location. Here is how:

  • Open Settings .
  • Tap Safari .
  • Tap Downloads .
  • iCloud Drive – Downloads. If you select this option, your downloaded items will be available on your other devices too, if you are signed in with the same Apple ID.
  • On My iPhone or iPad – Downloads. If you select this option, your downloaded items will only be stored on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Or tap Other to select another location of your choosing in iCloud or on your device.

Safari Downloads settings

How to customize when items are removed from the Downloads list

By default, Safari will remove an item from the list after one day. However, you can change this. Here is how:

  • Tap Remove Download List Items .
  • After one day : Your list will be cleared after one day.
  • Upon successful download : This will make it so there will be no Downloads list in Safari. Any item you download will directly go to the download folder.
  • Manually : This will make it so the list will stay intact unless you clear it. To clear it, open the Downloads List (tap AA, then Downloads in Safari), then tap Clear to delete all. If you want to delete individual items, swipe left and tap Delete.

Mac: How to always allow downloads in Safari

Avatar for Michael Potuck

The default privacy and security settings on Apple devices are definitely dialed in relatively high and while that’s a great default, you may want to customize yours to best suit your workflows. Follow along for how to always allow downloads in Safari for specific websites or even across the board.

The default setting for downloads from websites on  Mac  is for Safari to ask. That’s a nice approach for security and privacy but for specific websites you may trust and download from frequently, it’s handy to set Safari to always allow downloads without asking first.

  • Open Safari on your Mac
  • Click Safari in the menu bar (top left corner) then choose  Preferences…
  • At the top of the window, click  Websites
  • Now on the left-hand sidebar click  Downloads
  • Click the Ask/Deny/Allow drop-down on the right-hand side next to sites to dial in your preferences
  • Use  When visiting other websites  to change download settings for all websites

Here’s how these steps look:

Once you’ve opened Safari Preferences here’s what you’ll see in the Websites > Downloads section:

The three sections to look out for are Currently Open Websites , Configured Websites , and When visiting other websites .

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are software updates necessary.

Microsoft is committed to providing its customers with software that has been tested for safety and security. Although no system is completely secure, we use processes, technology, and several specially focused teams to investigate, fix, and learn from security issues to help us meet this goal and to provide guidance to customers on how to help protect their PCs.

As part of the Microsoft software release process, all software released to the Download Center is scanned for malware before it is made available for public download. Additionally, after release, the software available from the Download Center is routinely scanned for malware. Microsoft recognizes that the threat environment is constantly changing and will continue to evolve over time, and we are committed to process improvements that will help protect our customers from malware threats

How can I keep my software up to date?

What can i find in the microsoft download center, and how do i find what i’m looking for.

The Microsoft Download Center has recently been revised to better serve you as a one-stop shop for products available for purchase, in addition to products and downloads available for free. For your convenience, items available for purchase are linked directly to Microsoft Store. Items available as free downloads are linked to details pages, where you can learn more about them and initiate downloads.

If you would like Microsoft to scan your computer and recommend updates, please see the preceding question. If you would like to search for specific downloads, start by using one of these methods.

  • To find products and downloads, in the navigation bar that appears across the center of the Download Center home page, click an icon.
  • To search more specifically for a product or download, on the menu bar displayed near the top of the page, click a menu name and then click a product or download.
  • To search by keyword, at the top of the page, in the  Search Download Center  search box, type the word or words you wish to search for.

On the Search results page, you may see the following:

  • An Editor's choice listing of products and downloads, which are recommendations based on the search term.
  • A  Sort by  box on the right side of the page. Click the down arrow, and select a display order for the search results.
  • A list of Filter options on the left side of the page. Click a Filter option to narrow the list of items displayed in the search results. The Filter option operates together with the original search term to narrow the scope of search results.

When you see the item you’re interested in, click the item link to find out more about downloading or purchasing it.

How do I find worldwide downloads?

Microsoft delivers downloads in more than 118 languages worldwide. The Download Center now combines all English downloads into a single English Download Center. We no longer offer separate downloads for U.S. English, U.K. English, Australian English, or Canadian English.

Select a Worldwide download from the English-language site

  • On the download details page for a particular item, under Quick details, you will see a Change language box. Select the desired language from the drop-down list

Note:  The  Change Language  box appears only when a worldwide version of the download is available. If the box does not appear, the download has not yet been made available in languages other than English. If you see the box, but a specific language is not listed, the download is not yet available in that language.

Which other Microsoft websites offer downloads?

In this section, you will find links to other Microsoft websites that offer downloads. Note that almost all of the downloads available from these websites can also be found in the Microsoft Download Center; however, the other Microsoft sites may offer services and information that you may not find in the Download Center.

If you are looking for downloads for the Windows operating system or for Microsoft Office, try using  Windows Update , which helps you keep your computer up to date without requiring you to visit the Download Center.

What should I do if I can’t find what I am looking for?

What information will i find on download pages.

When you click a download item in the Download Center, you will be directed to the download details page for that download. Most of these pages follow a standard format and include most of the sections described here.

The  Quick details  section contains helpful summary information, including the name and size of the download file and its date of publication.

In some cases, you'll see a  Change language  box, from which you can select a language other than English. Note that some downloads are not available in all languages. In addition, not all non-English downloads are accompanied by localized details pages. As a result, you may find English descriptions and instructions on pages for non-English downloads.

For each file listed, you will see a  Download  button or link in the  Quick details  section. Click this button or link to begin the download.

The  Overview  section includes a brief explanation of the issues addressed by the download and the benefits it provides.

Always check the  System requirements  section to make sure your computer is compatible with and has the space required to install and run the download. This section may also list required or recommended application software.

Review the  Instructions  section before clicking the  Download  button, so you are prepared for any steps you may need to follow.

This lists other items downloaded by people who also downloaded the current item. Information about these related downloads can be very helpful.

This provides further information that is either directly related to the current download or is meant to help keep your system running securely, such as security update information.

These links take you to how-to information, newsgroups, special offers, and other resources pertinent to the download you have selected.

What should I do if I cannot complete a download?

How do i install downloaded software.

Before you can use any software that you download, you must install it. For example, if you download a security update but do not install it, the update will not provide any protection for your computer. Follow these steps to save and install a download:

  • On the download details page, click the  Download  button.
  • A dialogue box will open. Click the  Save  button.
  • You will be prompted to select a location for the download on your computer. Select an appropriate location, and click the  Save  button.
  • When the file has finished downloading, you will see a second dialog box. If you want to install the file immediately, click the  Open  button. This launches an installation wizard.
  • If you do not want to immediately install the file, click the  Close  button. When you are ready to install the file, double-click the file to launch the installation wizard.

Note:  When you save a download file, make sure to save it to a location that you will remember when you are ready to install the download. We suggest creating a special folder on your desktop to which you always save downloads. Follow these steps to create such a downloads folder:

  • Right-click an unused area of your desktop.
  • Point to  New , and then click  Folder .
  • Give the folder a name, such as My Downloads.

How to get the Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2) on your computer NOW

The next Windows 11 feature update isn't generally available until later this year, but you can get it now if you know how.

Windows 11 Logo 2 Winver

The next version of Windows 11, dubbed the 2024 Update or version 24H2 is now shipping on new Copilot+ PCs , but it's not yet generally available for existing Windows 11 devices. However, there is an easy way to get on your computer now, and in this guide we're going to show you how.

To get the Windows 11 2024 Update now, you will need to temporarily join the Windows Insider Program to download the stable build of the next version of Windows. You can do this easily via the Windows Settings app.

How to get Windows 11 version 24H2 now

1. Open Windows Settings (WIN+I)

2. Select "Windows Update"

3. Select " Windows Insider Program"

3. Select "Get started."

Windows Insider Program

4. Select "Link an account."

Get the Windows Central Newsletter

All the latest news, reviews, and guides for Windows and Xbox diehards.

5. Select your account and click "continue."

6. Click "continue" to agree to joining the Insider Program.

7. Select the "Release Preview" option and click continue.

Windows Insider Program

8. Click "continue" to agree to letting Microsoft gather telemetry data.

Windows Insider Program

9. Select "Restart now."

Windows Insider Program

10. Once rebooted, open Windows Settings (WIN+I)

11. Select Windows Update

12. Select "Check for updates"

13. You should now see Windows 11 version 24H2 as a downloadable update.

Windows insider Program

14. Once Windows 11 version 24H2 has been downloaded and installed, navigate back to the Windows Insider Program page in Settings.

15. Select "Stop getting preview builds."

16. Toggle on the "Unenroll this device when the next version of Windows releases."

Windows Insider Program

And that's it! You will now be unenrolled from the Windows Insider Program automatically when Windows 11 version 24H2 officially releases later this year. But in the meantime, enjoy the new Windows 11 version 24H2 features!

IMPORTANT: Windows 11 version 24H2 will not include any Copilot+ PC features on hardware that is not Copilot+ compatible. That includes every single Windows 11 PC on sale currently that doesn't have a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor. If you're on an Intel or AMD PC, you can download 24H2 and you won't get Windows Recall or other AI features.

  • mikiem FWIW, note that if the copy of Win11 24H2 is not currently enrolled in the Insider program you won't get any updates other than Defender via Windows Update. I downloaded the ISO in May using an account I do have enrolled , upgrading a test copy of Win11 on this PC. I've had to hunt down and install updates manually. Reply

Relive the biggest moments from WWDC24

Today Apple kicked off its 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, revealing groundbreaking new technologies and features during a keynote that was live-streamed from Apple Park to millions around the world. During the weeklong event, developers and students will have unique access to Apple experts, as well as insight into new tools, frameworks, and features to help elevate their apps and games.

This year’s keynote revealed Apple Intelligence , the personal intelligence system that combines the power of generative models with users’ personal context — at the core of iPhone, iPad, and Mac to deliver intelligence that’s incredibly useful and relevant. Major updates also come to iOS 18 , iPadOS 18 , macOS Sequoia , and watchOS 11 , including the biggest-ever redesign of the Photos app, game-changing productivity tools, and new ways for users to express themselves and customize their devices. visionOS 2 brings powerful new ways to interact with Apple Vision Pro and exciting updates to spatial photos and Mac Virtual Display, and tvOS 18 infuses useful information in Apple TV+ films and shows on users’ biggest screen in the home.

Beginning this month, Apple Vision Pro is also coming to more countries and regions, including China mainland, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and next month will come to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the U.K.

Apple Intelligence harnesses the power of Apple silicon to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and draw from users’ personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks. A cornerstone of Apple Intelligence is on-device processing, which delivers personal intelligence without collecting users’ data. Private Cloud Compute sets a new standard for privacy in AI, with the ability to flex and scale computational capacity between on-device processing, and larger, server-based models that run on dedicated Apple silicon servers.

With iOS 18 , users will now be able to arrange apps and widgets in any open space on the Home Screen, customize the buttons at the bottom of the Lock Screen, and quickly access more controls in Control Center. With the biggest redesign ever of the Photos app, photo libraries are automatically organized in a new single view in Photos, and helpful new collections keep favorites easily accessible. All-new text effects come to iMessage, amplifying any letter, word, phrase, or emoji with dynamic, animated appearances to bring conversations to life. Users can also now communicate over satellite in the Messages app, even when a cellular or Wi-Fi connection isn’t available.

With iPadOS 18 , the iPad experience is more versatile and intelligent than ever with new features and apps designed for Apple Pencil. The Calculator app comes to iPad with Math Notes, which allows users to type or write out mathematical expressions and see them instantly solved in their own handwriting. New handwriting tools in Notes including Smart Script make handwritten notes more fluid, flexible, and easier to read.

With macOS Sequoia , Continuity between iPhone and Mac gets better than ever with iPhone Mirroring, enabling full access to and control of iPhone directly from Mac. Safari gets another big update with the new Highlights feature for effortless information discovery on webpages while browsing. Gaming is even more immersive with Personalized Spatial Audio that puts players in the middle of the action like never before. And Apple Intelligence unlocks new ways for Mac users to enhance their writing and communicate more effectively, create playful images in seconds, and more. Apple Intelligence takes full advantage of the power of Apple silicon and its Neural Engine, and will be supported by every Mac with an M-series chip.

watchOS 11 offers breakthrough insights into users’ health and fitness, and more personalization than ever. The new Vitals app surfaces key health metrics and context, the ability to measure training load offers a game-changing new experience when working out, and the popular Activity rings are even more customizable. The Smart Stack and Photos face use intelligence to feature more individualization, and Apple Watch and the Health app on iPhone and iPad offer additional support for users who are pregnant. Check In, the Translate app, and new capabilities for the double tap gesture come to Apple Watch for added connectivity and convenience.

Just months after its initial release, visionOS 2 brings powerful spatial computing experiences to Apple Vision Pro, including new ways for users to create spatial photos with the images already in their library, intuitive hand gestures to easily access important information at a glance, and new features for Mac Virtual Display, Travel Mode, and Guest User. visionOS 2 also introduces exciting new capabilities like Follow Your Breathing in the Mindfulness app, SharePlay for Photos, and multiview in the TV app.

With tvOS 18 , intelligent new features like InSight — and updates to Enhance Dialogue and subtitles — level up cinematic experiences, while new Apple Fitness+, Apple Music, and FaceTime capabilities get even better on users’ biggest screen. The Home app gains new features with iOS 18, like guest access and hands-free unlock with home keys, delivering effortless and secure access to the home. AirPods software updates will transform the way users respond to Siri with new gestures, take calls with friends and loved ones, and immerse themselves in their favorite games.
