A power-retractable slide-out section is a great way to maximize the interior living space of any size RV. to create more interior living space

A slide out, slide or pop out is a cut-out portion of your RV that extends and retracts its side wall to create more interior living space.

They are especially prized in smaller campers that are compact and streamlined on the road when you want them to be, yet give you enough elbow room to stretch out when you set up camp.

With all their popularity, it’s no wonder why so many people put a slide-out section as a top priority when shopping for a new travel trailer.

If this sounds like you, then you might be wondering what are some of the best small travel trailers with a slide-out section?

Two of the top contenders in this crowded class are the Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S and the Coachmen – Viking Ultra-Lite 17BHS.

Though there are some really nice models out there that can fit specific travel styles.

If you need more room for your family, but you don’t want to make a major investment in a giant travel trailer, we’ve got you covered.

We waded through the broad field of options to find some of the best smallest trailers with a slide-out on the market today.

Along the way, we also took into account things like how the weight might pair with a certain type of tow vehicle, as well as the size of the family it can accommodate, and what the slide-out section had to offer.

6 Great Small Travel Trailers With A Slide-Out

The following models have a lot to offer when it comes to being streamlined going down the road, but still offering plenty of elbow room and sleeping space when you expand the slide-out section.

We also tried to keep our eyes out for models that appealed to niche interests like boondocking off the grid, or a small travel trailer that’s designed to handle cooler weather like you might find when camping in the mountains.

Here are the 8 awesome small camper trailers with slide outs that give you extra living, storage and relaxing space in your RV.

  • K-Z Sportsmen Classic 181BH Ultra Lightweight Travel Trailer
  • Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S Travel Trailer
  • Coachmen Viking Ultra-Lite 17BHS
  • Dutchmen Coleman Rubicon 1608RB Travel Trailer
  • Jayco Jay Flight SLX 183RB Travel Trailer
  • Lance 1475 Travel Trailer

1. K-Z Sportsmen Classic 181BH Ultra Lightweight Travel Trailer

K-Z - Sportsmen Classic 181BH

  • Length of 20 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3,020 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 480 lbs.
  • GVWR of 3,500 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 370 lbs.
  • Sleeps up to 6 people
  • 13,500 BTU air conditioner
  • 20,000 BTU heater

For a small travel trailer with a slide-out section that measures in at just under 21-feet long the K-Z – Sportsmen Classic 181BH offers a lot of sleeping space.

The power slide-out section houses a relatively spacious dinette area. If you need some extra sleeping room for a third child, or you have an overnight guest, it also converts into a bed.

If you have multiple children and everyone needs to feel like they have their own space, then you need to move this new model up your list.

Especially when you consider that it’s light enough to be towed by a light-duty pickup truck or even a robust mid-size SUV with a towing package.

The floor space saved by the slide-out section allows for a pair of rear bunks. This lets each child have their own bed as well as a little storage space for their own things.

It’s a great concept for teenagers and school-age children. The master bed in the front also gives you a dedicated sleeping and storage space without having your kid’s things intermingle with your own.

2. Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S Travel Trailer

Forest River - Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S

  • Length of 22 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 4,171 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,521 lbs.
  • GVWR of 5,692 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 412 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 52.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 30.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 30.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 4 people
  • 35,000 BTU heater

If you train your eye to look for them driving down the road, you will see that the Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S is one of the most popular small camper trailers with a slide-out section.

It’s light enough to be towed by a full-size SUV or a light-duty pickup truck. The power slide-out section houses a large, comfortable sofa with a dinette table in front of it.

The floorplan and open living space also translates into impressive amount of storage space both inside and out.

The decked-out kitchen has a lot of thoughtful cupboards and a wardrobe panty area.

There’s also an impressive pass-through storage area in the front that’s accessible via a pair of hatches.

3. Coachmen Viking Ultra-Lite 17BHS

Coachmen - Viking Ultra-Lite 17BHS

  • Dry Weight of 3,437 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 988 lbs.
  • GVWR of 4,425 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 425 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 27.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 25.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 25.0 gallons

The Coachmen – Viking Ultra-Lite 17BHS is another great small travel trailer that is designed to accommodate a family with multiple children.

The power slide-out section houses a rather spacious dinette. It can also be converted into a functional sleeping space.

If you have a toddler who needs a confined sleeping area, it can easily be turned into an improvised crib or day bed.

If your kids love bunk beds and clamor to see who gets the top bunk, then they are going to love spacious rear bunks.

They are also conveniently positioned next to the bathroom that has a shower with a basin that is deep enough to bathe a small child.

You get all this in a small travel trailer that can be towed by a light-duty pickup truck or full-size SUV.

When fully loaded Coachmen – Viking Ultra-Lite 17BHS has a gross vehicle weight rating of just under 4,500-pounds.

This means there are even a few robust mid-size SUVs that can safely tow it when totally loaded.

4. Dutchmen Coleman Rubicon 1608RB Travel Trailer

Dutchmen - Coleman Rubicon 1608RB

  • Dry Weight of 3,882 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 952 lbs.
  • GVWR of 4,834 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 525 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 46.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 28.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 28.0 gallons
  • Sleeps up to 3 to 4 people

With a power-retractable slide out section with a love-seat style couch, and a total length of just over 20-feet the Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB can sleep up to 4 people.

Though I think you will find in real life that it is meant to be a small travel trailer that meets the needs of a traveling couple or two parents and an only child.

The slide-out section’s couch is positioned in front of it is a long dining or coffee table.

It’s great for times when you and your significant other want to cuddle up and watch a movie, or you just like to eat while watching TV.

With a gross vehicle weight rating of nearly 5,000-pounds and a total length of just over 20-feet, the Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB pushes the limit of what all but the most robust of mid-size SUVs can handle.

Though if you already have a full-size SUV a light-duty pickup truck or larger, you will have no problem towing this lightweight and spacious camper anywhere you want to take it.

5. Jayco Jay Flight SLX 183RB Travel Trailer

Jayco - Jay Flight SLX 183RB

  • Length of 21 ft.
  • Dry Weight of 3,270 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 880 lbs.
  • GVWR of 4,150 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 290 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 20.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 19.9 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 19.9 gallons
  • 8,000 BTU air conditioner
  • 18,000 BTU furnace

The Jayco – Jay Flight SLX 183RB is a small travel trailer with a slide-out section that is geared more toward a traveling couple or a small family with a single child.

The slide-out section holds a relatively spacious dinette, which can be easily repurposed into a day bed or a crib space if needed.

One of the great things about the Jayco – Jay Flight SLX 183RB is the weight and towing statistics.

With a gross vehicle weight rating of under 4,200-pounds, it is within the range of robust mid-size SUVs with a towing package.

This makes it a great option for a family that needs a compact travel trailer, but doesn’t want to invest in a larger tow vehicle just to safely pull it.

6. Lance 1475 Travel Trailer

Lance 1475 Travel Trailer

  • Length of 19’ 8” ft.
  • Dry Weight of 2,600 lbs.
  • Payload Capacity of 1,100 lbs.
  • GVWR of 3,700 lbs.
  • Hitch Weight of 250 lbs.
  • Total Fresh Water Tank Capacity of 26.0 gallons
  • Total Gray Water Tank Capacity of 26.0 gallons
  • Total Black Water Tank Capacity of 26.0 gallons
  • Sleeps 2 to 3 people

The Lance 1475 is a compact travel trailer with a small slide-out section that houses a small seating area.

This departs from many of the competitors who install a large, static dinette section.

This serves to give you more floor space to move around in what might otherwise be a tightly spaced travel trailer.

The slide-out section also opens up enough floor space to accommodate a true dry bath, where as a lot of similar small travel trailers this size only have a wet bath.

It’s supported by 26 gallon fresh water and a pair of 26 gallon wastewater tanks.

This gives you just enough water capacity to camp off the grid for a day or two, without driving the weight up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a slide-out section add a lot of weight to a travel trailer.

The additional material and the power-retractable components of a slide-out section do technically increase the dry weight of a travel trailer.

Though this was more of an issue in the past, where a slide-out section usually made a travel trailer so heavy that you needed a full-size pickup truck to tow it confidently.

Recent improvements in RV materials and manufacturing technology have helped reduce the overall weight of a slide-out section to help keep many models within range of what a robust mid-size or full-size SUV can tow.

Are Slide-Out Sections Difficult To Maintain On A Travel Trailer?

By their nature, power-retractable slide-out sections on a small travel trailer do need more maintenance than a camper that doesn’t have them.

All the moving parts need periodic lubrication, and the seals or gaskets can start to develop leaks over the years if the travel trailer isn’t properly stored during the winter.

There are a lot of great small travel trailers with slide-out sections on the market today.

Modern materials and engineering have even helped keep some light enough to be towed by a robust mid-size SUV with a towing package installed.

The one that’s best for you might depend on the size of your family and how you like to camp.

If it’s just you and your significant other or you have an only child, then the Dutchmen – Coleman Rubicon 1608RB might be the best small travel trailer with a slide-out to meet your needs.

The dinette section can be used as a daybed for a toddler and will still be large enough to grow with your child over the years.

If you have a larger family and you need to sleep multiple children or teenagers at the same time then the Forest River – Rockwood Mini Lite 2109S might be the best small travel trailer with a slide-out for your family.

The kids will love the bunk beds, not to mention the fact that everyone gets to have their own sleeping and storage space.

Which is why they are often the go-to choice for beginning RVers just starting out.

So to make it easier to find all the shortest and lightest travel trailers, we compiled this list of the shortest travel trailers currently on the road today, from shortest to longest .

Happy Camper HC1 Floor Plan

But it’s not just its short length and lightweight design that makes the HC1 so great, as it’s also one of the most versatile and nimble travel trailers that you can buy.

Due in large part to its modular and customizable floorplan, which Happier Camper refers to as their Adaptiv ™ Floorplan.

Which provides a blank slate inside the camper, so that you can design the travel trailer for your specific needs and wants, by utilizing different Adaptiv™ Components in any configuration you want.

As mentioned above the 13-foot Scamp Trailer shares the honor of the shortest travel trailer with the Happier Camper HC1, as they both have an overall length of 13 feet .

But where the 13-foot Scamp trailer really shines is its $15,000 starting price, which is half the price of the more expensive Happier Camper HC1.

Despite its more affordable price, however, it still has everything you could possibly need for a quick weekend getaway.

Including sleeping space for 2 or 4 depending on layout, a small kitchenette with a sink, two-burner propane stove, and fridge, and a convertible 4-person dinette booth.

  • Price :  $27,000
  • Length :  15 Feet 3 Inches
  • Dry Weight :  1,969 Pounds
  • Bathroom :  Wet Bath

The next shortest travel trailer is the nuCamp Tab 320 S Teardrop Camper, which has an overall length of 15 feet 3 inches.

This camper from nuCamp also maintains a very compact and aerodynamic profile thanks to its teardrop shape, which really helps with gas mileage and makes the trailer more manageable in windy conditions.

The Tab 320 S is also the first travel trailer on this list, that comes with a standard three-piece wet bath, which allows you to do more boondocking without having to rely on campground bathrooms for a shower and a toilet.

nuCamp Tab 320 S Teardrop Camper Floor Plan

As the 2021 nuCamp Tab 320 S teardrop camper is equipped with a cassette toilet, small bathroom sink, and shower, making it easy to get ready in the morning, no matter where you happen to be camped.

4)  Riverside Retro 135

  • Price :  $14,000
  • Length :  15 Feet 9 Inches
  • Dry Weight :  2,530Pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity :  3
  • Bathroom :   Dry Bath

One of the most unique travel trailers on this list has to be the Riverside Retro 135, which looks like it stepped right out of the 1950s, thanks to its retro styling both on the inside as well as the outside.

And at a length of just 15 feet 9 inches, it’s also one of the shortest travel trailers that you can buy.

In keeping with the 1950s styling, this trailer can either be outfitted with a birch or maple interior and optioned with a variety of exterior trim colors including aqua, seafoam green, indigo blue, and yellow among others.

Riverside RV Retro 135 Floorplan

But beyond its 1950s styling, this travel trailer is also just an all-around well-equipped travel trailer, as it has every feature you would expect in a camper of this size and maybe even a few that you wouldn’t.

To begin the rear entry door of the camper allows amenities to be placed down both sides of the trailer, which really helps in utilizing every square inch of this small camper.

In addition, this short travel trailer also has a dry bath with a separate shower and toilet, which is a real rarity for trailers of this size, as they usually only have a wet bath.

And beyond the standard dry bath, this camper also features a large queen bed at the front of the trailer as well as a well-equipped kitchen and a large sofa.

For more information on the Riverside Retro 135, check out Riverside’s website by clicking here .

5) Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G15TB

  • Price :  $18,000
  • Length :  15 Feet 10 Inches
  • Dry Weight :  2,608 Pounds

One of my favorite small travel trailers is the Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G15TB, which has a length of 15 feet 10 inches, making this camper the 5th shortest travel trailer on the market today .

To begin with, this short camper has an average price of just $18,000, making it one of the cheapest small travel trailers that you can buy.

But just because it has a more affordable price don’t think that this is some bare-bones camper, as this is one of the most well-equipped trailers on this list.

In fact, the Geo Pro G15TB has so many different features and amenities that Forest River likes to call this camper the “Swiss Army Knife of RVs”.

And we think that’s a fitting name, as this compact camper from Forest River comes standard with a Maxair® vent fan and cover, roof-mounted air conditioner, Water-Pur filtration system, 190-watt roof-mounted solar panel with a 1,000-watt inverter, power tongue jack, outside shower, and a quick recovery gas/electric water heater.

Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G15TB Floorplan

Also, like the nuCamp Tab 320 S teardrop camper, the Geo Pro G15TB has a convertible dinette booth in the rear that converts either into a large single king bed or two twin beds.

This compact travel trailer also has a standard wet bath at the front of the camper that includes both a shower as well as a foot flush toilet connected to a black tank.

For more information on the Forest River Geo Pro G15TB, be sure to check out Forest River’s website by clicking here .

6) Airstream Bambi 16RB

  • Price :  Starting at $51,400
  • Length :  15 Feet 11 Inches
  • Dry Weight :  3,000 Pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity :  4

The most stylish small travel trailer on this list has to be the Airstream Bambi 16RB.

Which is just 1 inch longer than Forest River Geo Pro G15TB, at 15 feet 11 inches.

Although that beautiful all-aluminum exterior and stylish form factor certainly come at a heavy cost as the Airstream Bambi 16RB has a starting price of $51,400.

Making this compact trailer from Airstream the most expensive camper on this list.

But for those that don’t mind forking over more than $50,000 for a short and compact travel trailer, the Airstream Bambi 16RB should definitely be at the top of your list.

As it’s interior and exterior styling and luxurious appointments make this trailer second to none.

Airstream Bambi 16RB Floorplan

This travel trailer also has the ability to sleep 4 campers at a time, which is a rarity for short lightweight travel trailers, thanks to its rear fixed bed and convertible dinette booth at the front.

Making this travel trailer perfect for families or for campers that want to have guests stay over.

This premium travel trailer from Airstream is also equipped with a center wet bath that features both a shower and toilet connected to a black tank.

https://youtu.be/VLoxRpwsSqU

  • Price :  $12,000
  • Length :  16 Feet 3 Inches
  • Dry Weight :  2,190 Pounds

The honor of the cheapest and shortest travel trailer goes to the KZ RV Sportsmen Classic 130RB, which has an overall length of 16 feet 3 inches and an average price of only $12,000.

Making this compact and lightweight camper from KZ one of the most affordable travel trailers that you can buy.

But it’s not just its affordable price that makes this travel trailer great, as this small travel trailer has tons of features and amenities to make your next camping trip more comfortable and enjoyable.

As the Sportsmen Classic 130RB comes standard with a 54-inch dinette booth big enough for the whole family to sit around, a front diamond plate that acts as a rock guard, self-adjusting electric brakes, led lighting, 12V converter with charger, and a well-equipped kitchenette.

KZ RV Sportsmen Classic 130RB Floorplan

This budget-friendly camper also has one of the few dry baths on this list, with a separate shower and toilet, which is a real rarity when it comes to short travel trailers, as they almost always have a wet bath.

In addition, the Sportsmen Class 130RB can also be optioned with an off-road package, allowing this small travel trailer to go just about anywhere.

For more information on the KZ RV Sportsmen Classic 130RB, check out KZ RV’s website by clicking here .

8) inTech RV Sol Dawn

  • Length :  16 Feet
  • Dry Weight :  2,650 to 2,730 Pounds
  • Bathroom :   Wet Bath

Coming in at number 8 on this shortest travel trailer list is the inTech RV Sol Dawn, which has an overall length of 16 feet, making this compact camper super easy to tow and park.

The Sol Dawn also flips the standard small lightweight floorplan on its head, as it features a large dinette booth with panoramic windows at the front of the camper and a small wet bath and kitchenette at the rear.

While most small travel trailers usually have a dinette at the rear and a wet bath and kitchenette at the front.

And while one is not necessarily better than the other, it’s always nice to see RV manufacturers mixing it up and trying new things, as it provides some variety in the RV industry and keeps every travel trailer from looking the same.

inTech RV Sol Dawn Floorplan

But probably the coolest feature that really makes this short travel trailer stand out from the crowd is the panoramic windows in the front of the camper, which really lets you enjoy nature and your surrounding even when you’re on the inside of the trailer.

In addition, the Sol Dawn also features a convertible dinette booth that will comfortably sleep two and a small wet bath with a combined shower and toilet.

For more information on the inTech RV Sol Dawn, be sure to check out inTech RV’s website by clicking here .

9) 16′ Scamp Trailer

  • Price :  Starting at $17,000
  • Dry Weight :  1,750 to 2,600 Pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity :  2 to 4 (Depending on Floorplan)
  • Bathroom :   Optional Wet Bath

The 16′ Scamp Trailer is the big brother to the 13′ Scamp Trailer from earlier, which provides an extra three feet of living space, thanks to its 16-foot overall length.

But beyond the extra three feet of living space, the two campers are very similar to one another and have similar features and offerings.

As they both have the ability to sleep 2 or 4 depending on the floorplan you choose and both have the option to either have or not have a wet bath inside the camper.

Scamp 16 Foot Trailer Stanard Layout 6

One difference between the 16-foot Scamp and 13-foot Scamp though is the number of layouts or floorplans offered.

As the 16′ Scamp Trailer has five different layouts to choose from, thanks to the extra interior space, while the 13-foot Scamp only has two.

For more information on the 16′ Scamp Trailer and to see the other layout options, check out Scamp’s website by clicking here .

10) Airstream Basecamp 16

  • Price :  Starting at $39,100
  • Dry Weight :  2,650 Pounds
  • Bathroom :   Wet Bath

In 2007 Airstream released the Airstream Basecamp, which took a lot of design inspiration from Airstreams founder’s first teardrop trailer from the 1930s.

Departing from the iconic and classic Airstream shape to design and build the ultimate adventure trailer.

And now more than 10 years later and after countless improvements, the Airstream Basecamp 16 is one of the shortest and best adventure trailers you can buy.

Meant to be towed by a wide variety of mid-sized SUVs, this rugged camper can go anywhere your SUV can go, no matter how off the beaten path you choose to go.

Airstream Basecamp 16 Floorplan

But despite its rugged nature, it still maintains a very sleek and stylish look both on the outside as well as on the inside, as you would expect from Airstream.

This short travel trailer from Airstream also has a rear convertible dinette booth allowing this camper to sleep 2, a compact wet bath with a combined shower and toilet, a side and rear door making it easy to load gear, and a really well-designed kitchen at the front of the trailer, which offers really great views thanks to all the windows.

For more information on the Airstream Basecamp 16, be sure to check out Airstream’s website by clicking here .

How Much Does it Cost to Buy a Small RV?

Small RVs can vary greatly in price depending on what type and class of RV you choose, for example, a small lightweight teardrop trailer can cost as little as $10,000, while a high-end Class B RV can cost well over $100,000.

So to give you a better idea of what you can expect to pay for a small RV, we’ve broken down the cost of a small RV by type.

Smallest Travel Trailer that Sleeps 4

13 Foot Scamp Trailer

The smallest travel trailer that can sleep 4 is the 13-foot Scamp Trailer when it’s optioned with front bunk beds as opposed to the wet bath.

Which is pretty amazing considering the interior space of this small travel trailer is only 10 feet long.

In fairness though the front bunk beds are pretty small and would really only comfortable sleep children.

And if you choose the layout with bunk beds, you’ll lose the wet bath at the front of the camper, which might be a deal-breaker for many.

But if you’re a family of 4 that wants the smallest and lightest travel trailer that can still sleep 4, the 13-foot Scamp trailer is one of your best options.

For a list of other small travel trailers that can sleep 4, be sure to check out our article “ 12 Best Small Travel Trailers for a Family of 4 “.

What is the Shortest Travel Trailer with a Slide Out?

Lance 1475

The shortest travel trailer with a slide-out is the Lance 1475, which has an overall length of 19 feet 8 inches.

However, not every Lance 1475 has a slide-out, as there are two different floorplans on the Lance 1475.

And the only floorplan that has a slide-out is the Lance 1475S or the one that has the couch instead of the two swivel rocker chairs.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the Forest River R-Pod RP-180 came in a close second to the Lance 1475S, as it’s only 4 inches longer and also has a slide-out.

Making the Forest River R-Pod RP-180 the second shortest travel trailer with a slide-out, as it has an overall length of just 20 feet.

What is the Shortest Bunkhouse Travel Trailer?

The shortest bunkhouse travel trailer is actually a tie between the Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G16BH and Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E16BH , which both have rear bunk beds and an overall length of just 18 feet 6 inches.

Making them perfect for a family or anyone that needs a good amount of sleeping capacity but still wants to keep the overall length and weight down on the travel trailer.

And if you’re looking for even more short travel trailers with a bunkhouse, we’ve listed all the runner-ups below.

  • Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G19BH – 20 Feet 2 Inches
  • Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E19BH – 20 Feet 2 Inches
  • Jayco Jay Feather Micro 171BH – 20 Feet 3 Inches
  • Winnebago Hike H172BH – 20 Feet 7.5 Inches

Smallest Travel Trailer that Sleeps 6

Rockwood Geo Pro

The smallest travel that sleeps six is actually two trailers including the Forest River Rockwood Geo Pro G20BHS and Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro E20BHS , which both have a sleeping capacity of 6 and an overall length of just 21 feet 2 inches.

Making these two small lightweight campers a good 3 to 4 feet shorter than any other travel trailer on the market today that can sleep 6.

The reason why both of these trailers can sleep 6 in such as small compact space is thanks to their well-laid-out floorplan, which features three separate sleeping spaces inside the camper.

Including rear bunk beds, a front 54-inch by 74-inch fixed full-size bed, and a 44-inch convertible dinette booth, which also happens to be on a slide-out.

What is the Smallest Travel Trailer with a Bathroom?

The smallest travel trailer with a bathroom is the 13-foot Scamp Trailer, as it can be optioned with a small three-piece wet bath at the front of the camper.

However, not all 13-foot Scamp trailers have a wet bath , as this small travel trailer can be optioned with either a wet bath or bunk beds depending on which floorplan you choose.

Which also changes the sleeping capacity of the 13-foot Scamp.

As the 13-foot Scamp Trailer has a 2-person sleeping capacity when optioned with a wet bath and a 4-person sleeping capacity when optioned with bunk beds.

Smallest Travel Trailer with a Dry Bath

Riverside Retro 135

The smallest travel trailer with a dry bath is the Riverside Retro 135 , which has a two-piece dry bath with a separate shower and toilet and a length of only 15 feet 9 inches.

But due to retro 1950s styling and lack of a bathroom sink this particular small travel trailer might not be for everyone.

So we included some runner-up trailers that were also small with a dry bath to provide some more options.

  • Sportsmen Classic 130RB – 16 Feet 3 Inches (Two-Piece Dry Bath)
  • Forest River Wolf Pup 14CC – 19 Feet 3 Inches (Split Two-Piece Dry Bath)
  • Winnebago Micro Minnie 1708FB  – 19 Feet 4.5 Inches (Three-Piece Dry Bath)
  • Jayco Jay Feather Micro 166FBS – 19 Feet 8 Inches (Three-Piece Dry Bath)
  • Winnebago Hike H170S – 20 Feet 7.5 Inches (Three-Piece Dry Bath)

Best Small Travel Trailers with Slide Outs

shortest travel trailer with 2 slides

Small travel trailers with slide outs are a wonderful option for RV owners that want something lightweight and compact while also providing the convenience of additional space. Below is our list of some of the smallest travel trailers with slide outs.

Best Small Travel Trailers With Slide Outs

1. 2019 Winnebago Minnie Drop 170K 2. 2018 Winnebago Minnie 2401RG 3. 2020 Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S 4. 2019 StarCraft Satellite 17RB 5. 2019 Lance 1575 6. Keystone 22RBPR Bullet Premier

2019 Winnebago Minnie Drop 170K

A consistent winner

In an industry defined by its lack of quality control, Winnebago stands out for its excellence. Their Trailers and RVs are some of the highest-rated campers on the market. So what makes the 170k stand out above the rest? It’s the attention to the details that the average customer might miss at a glance. They care more about the life of the product than the quick sale. The 170K is proof of this in lots of little ways, and a few big ones. Winnebago’s standards are just a step higher than the rest, and that shows in the lifespan of their products.

T60 Fiberglass

Let’s start with the Fiberglass. Many times these fiberglass units, though good quality, are created with vulnerabilities. The sections of fiberglass are pieced together. The seems in these pieces, after some wear, become openings for moisture. The sides of Winnebago RVs and trailers use the T60 Fiberglass/Gel Coat. These sections of the Fiberglass sidewall cover the entire sides of the trailer which leaves few potential entry points for the moisture to penetrate.

In case you don’t know, this is the type of fiberglass construction that is typically used on the high-end $70k to $90k units. You get this by default on this $27,000 unit.

Plywood Instead of Particle Board

Winnebago utilizes plywood in their construction which goes a long way in preventing water damage. If you have spent any time with RVs, you will know that this is the number one killer of RVs and trailers.

First, particle boards are more prone to being stripped by the screws. This weakens the hold that binds trailers together which adds to the squeaks and vulnerability to moisture. Plywood is a standard for Winnebago. It is less prone to this stripping. It will still happen eventually. Bouncing down the road will do that. The benefit is that plywood holds together, so you will have more time before any repairs are needed.

Second, particle boards soak up moisture easily. Both of them can soak in water. However, plywood is less susceptible to this type of damage. Particleboard is more likely to swell and expand with water, and that warping can cause permanent damage to the trailer. Having a bit more protection can go a long way on that rainy day.

For such a small unit, there is a decent amount of storage space. Nothing massive, but space is utilized very well, and it should easily hold the necessities.

Outdoor Kitchen

This is nice for an outdoor kitchen in a small unit. The pop-out kitchen contains a two-burner stove and sink and a TV wall mount with appropriate hookups: antenna and wall sockets. There is a mini-fridge for your drinks and a quick-connect barbecue connector.

Large U-shaped Dinette

While the 170k only sleeps 4 people, the dinette sits 6 adults. You can have some friends over without retreating to the outdoors. That’s a nice feature for all of you more sociable characters.

2018 Winnebago Minnie 2401RG

At nearly 28′, I struggled to decide if this trailer is too big to belong on the list. However, the Winnebago Minnies offer too much to pass on this one. It is small enough to be manageable and inexpensive enough to stay in many beginner budgets.

Indoor Kitchen

Being 28 feet long, Winnebago was able to fit a bit more inside than the previous 17 feet long unit. The previous trailer had an outdoor kitchen; this one is large enough to have one indoors. It contains a vertically stacked microwave, 3-range stovetop, and oven. The countertop stop is spacious that can be expanded further with the use of cutting board quality sink covers. The deep stainless steel sinks and high-rise faucet are nice touches that should not be forgotten. There is also a fridge/freezer combo that can seamlessly switch between both gas and electric.

Plenty of Storage

Thanks to a clever utilization of space, there is plenty of interior storage space. Near the door, a large compartment can hold whatever might normally clutter up a home’s entrance: shoes, bags, etc. A massive closet is set in the center of the trailer, and it is accessible to everyone. There is a smaller closet located inside the master bedroom. You will also find storage underneath and behind the jackknife couch . Finally, cabinets abound and should be enough for whatever storage needs that you have.

Externally, you have the large storage space that comes with most units. For your convenience, the magnetic luggage locks come on every unit. It’ll keep those vertically flipped doors from swinging down on their hinges and smacking you on the head.

Quality Construction Touches

Did I mention that I love Winnebago? They are a standout company for so many reasons. These are a few of the quality construction reasons that I recommend this unit:

  • T60 Fiberglass / Gel Coat (Look at the previous unit for more details)
  • Plywood instead of particle board – Higher quality and less susceptible to damage
  • Huck Bolt Frame – Easier to replace and it doesn’t rust as easily
  • Fresh: 43 Gallons
  • Grey: 41 Gallons
  • Exterior Height: 10 Feet, 6 Inches
  • Exterior Length: 27 Feet, 11 Inches
  • Dry Weight: 5,300 Pounds
  • Gross Vehicle Weight: 6,869 Pounds
  • 2 Entrance Bathroom with Porcelain Toilet and Roomy Shower
  • Black Tank Flush – For Easy Cleaning
  • 13,500 BTU Air-conditioner
  • Related Floor Plans: 12
  • Average Price: $17,150

2020 Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S

I am trying not to say the same benefits to each of these units, but the truth is, good RVs and trailers contain a lot of the same basic features: Reliable construction, lots of storage, and room to live. At least, these are some of the features that I look for in mobile homes.

Slide Out Space

There are plenty of reasons to love the Mini Lite 2509S travel trailer , but there are downsides to everything. Thankfully, this particular downside is just an occasional irritation. When traveling, the space where the slide-out retracts can be annoying and a bit difficult to maneuver.

The dinette seating is nearly wedged against the kitchen counter. You can make it through the space, but you are forced to make a tall step over it. If you have advanced mobility issues, this could be occasionally problematic.

When extended, this intrusive seating is not a problem. You actually have a ton of room at that point. It has been commented that you have space reminiscent of a super slider rather than what you might expect from a name that includes “Mini Lite.”

Well utilized space; that about sums it up. You’ll find storage in every nook and cranny on this thing. Tiny spaces get tiny cabinets. The larger ones often have outside access ports. One of the hanging closets can be converted into a pantry if desired. You probably won’t be lacking space.

The beds/couches are fantastic

The industry standard for mattresses has degraded. Now, the too-thin mattresses require a costly upgrade to be comfortable. Rockwood is one of the few remaining companies that give thick, quality mattresses by default; twice the thickness of most mattresses on the market.

Their murphy bed is also very comfortable, and they offer a couple more features than your typical trailer. First, the pop-out footrests. The seating is very similar to the kind that you expect from modern theaters. On each side of the murphy bed, there are tray tables that can swivel from the armrest to the people sitting on each side of the bed/couch.

If you do not personally appreciate this convenience, it can easily be removed. They are not attached by bolts or screws, so you can simply pull up to pop them off of the armrests.

The one downside to the murphy bed is the lack of separation from the rest of the room. You do have a privacy curtain, though standard, I’ve never fully been able to appreciate. I like having my own room. It does give you an illusion of privacy which will probably work well enough for the average consumer.

The Lighting

All of the lights can be controlled in a typical fashion. Throw the switch, and the connected lights turn off. In addition to this, each of the lights can be pressed like a button to turn them off and on individually.

The Suspension

Better than most, some say that it is the “best in class,” and I wouldn’t disagree. The four-wheel independent torsion axle suspension system is fantastic and will put most comparable units to shame. When you find yourself on uneven terrain, you will appreciate having wheels with independent suspension. It gives you more control over the trailer when wheels keep bumping off of the ground. Also, it improves your cornering since it has an improved capability to keep contact with the ground.

Plywood Flooring

As I mentioned before, plywood flooring is great. It holds up better than particle board when it comes up against the elements. I don’t want to rehash, so look under the Minnie Drop 170K for more details.

The Grill Master’s Choice

If you love to grill, you will be happy to hear that the 2509S has a built-in pop-out Capital grill. That sounds good on its own, but that isn’t what makes this unit special. It also has a hookup for an additional grill right beside it.

If you need some counter space, you can use the Captain grill as a surface. It gains you a little bit of additional space, but not much. The cover for the grill does provide a flat surface, but that surface isn’t level with the rest of the counter. It is useful though, so it isn’t a wash.

2019 StarCraft Satellite 17RB

Why you will like it

The 17RB wasn’t built to be a fully-featured trailer with all the trimmings. It’s a compact unit; built to be towed by most SUVs. It’s short and narrow structure means that you will make sacrifices that most couples will not want to make. It is a situational recommendation.

As a long term unit, this will not be ideal. It does make a fantastic short-term weekend-camper for a couple with a child. If you happen to be single, then the full-time camping could work out. However, I would still recommend another unit for you.

Kitchen Slide

The kitchen is set on a slide which gives you a bit of extra room. It goes a long way in making the space more livable.

Sloped Fiberglass Roof

The roof of the 17RB is a long single piece of fiberglass that stretches from one end to the other. It eliminates many of the seams that would normally find on the roof of a trailer. This limits the vulnerability to moisture in a big way. The slope of the roof improves protection against the rain by running the water straight off of the camper instead of overflowing off of the sides.

Same Features at a Sample Size

When I mentioned sacrifices, I didn’t necessarily mean that you would go without features. It would best be described as sample-sized features. It is a free-trial trailer meant to entice you into committing to the subscription of a full-time camping RV.

Yikes, yeah, I know that’s a big one. The trailer is a hair under 20 feet long and 1 ½ feet narrower than the average trailer width , so there wasn’t much that could be done about it. That’s one reason why this will be perfect for a short-term camper, but not great for a long-term situation. I will say that they placed cabinets wherever they could.

The Bathroom Is a Little Bit Claustrophobic

The bathroom is located at the end of the 17RB, and the roof has a slope to it. You can probably guess the situation from that. The toilet and sink is located under the slope which means that if you are a man with an average height will need to lower your head just a tiny bit in that area.

It actually isn’t as bad as it sounds. When you are sitting on the toilet, you have plenty of space. The area to the front and sides doesn’t squeeze you, so you can probably sit like you normally do.

The shower is probably the worst part of the trailer. A six-foot-tall person will feel their hair brushing against the roof. And the narrow confines of the shower will mean that your arms will have a difficult time staying within the bounds of the shower curtain.

Bedding for three, but a table for two

The dinette does transform into a bed, so this camper works for those couples with a small child. The bed is a bit too small for most adults, so I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone fully grown. The one problem I have with this dinette/bed is the incongruence of having bedding for three people and a table that only has enough room for two.

2019 Lance 1575

Need something really small and lightweight? Of course, sacrifices must be made.

You won’t want to live in this camper, but this will be perfect for anyone that is constantly a weekend away from a camping trip. It doesn’t have all the features, but it is a great little trailer.

Under 3,000 dry weight

As I said, lightweight; weighing in at 2,775 pounds (Dry Weight), this trailer won’t even tax your average minivan. This makes the Lance 1575 an accessible starting trailer

Truma Hot Water System

The Truma Hot Water System is actually pretty cool. Not only does it quickly heat your water supply for your shower and tap, but it doubles as a heating system for your trailer. If you are paying good money to heat up the water, it just makes sense to use any escaping heat to keep yourself warm. I’ve read that it can make as much as a 7-degree difference.

Natural Lighting

One comment that seems to be said again and again regards all of the natural light that the skylights and windows open to the inside of the trailer.

More than just being powered, the 1575’s tongue jack will recall its last used height. This will make it easier to raise and lower the trailer off and onto your hitch.

The Large Front Window Opens

If you start to feel a bit too warm in the summer, you can simply pop open the sizeable window that is located at the front of the trailer. It will go a long way in cooling you off during those hot and dry summer days

The Dinette

Taking full advantage of the slide-out, the dinette is much larger than you would expect. It’s u-shaped, and as is traditional, transforms into a bed. What isn’t traditional is the length. It is wide, but it isn’t quite as wide as the spacious 22RB dinette/bed. It is, however, very long. Individuals a bit over 6 feet will stretch out comfortably without raising their feet over the cushions.

The Bathroom

I don’t know how, but Lance somehow managed to fit a bathtub into this tiny trailer. The toilet is a bit closer to the tub than I would like, but it’s a worthwhile concession to be able to have a nightly soak. There is a medicine cabinet, but there wasn’t room for any other storage.

Huge Outdoor Storage, Little Indoor Storage

Inside the trailer, there isn’t much storage. It will likely be problematic at times. This is partially countered by having an abundance of outdoor storage. Two massive compartments will hold pretty much anything that you might want to store.

Counter Space

The counter space can be both good and bad. If the sink and stove are left open, there is honestly not a lot of counter space. However, if you use the provided covers for both the sink and three-burner stove, you will find the counter space to actually be quite comfortable. The stove is flush with the counter, and I love that. I also love the stove’s cover which is glass and folds to the back. It looks clean.

Slide Out Slides Way Out

The slide-out extends out very far which could raise stability and durability concerns. However, the double rack and pinion setup is a very stable system and handles the weight with ease. There is also a slide topper above that helps to prevent dirt and rust from damaging the seals.

Solid Construction

A lot of times, the light-weight units sacrifice the quality of their construction to save on weight. The metal is a bit thinner, there is a bit less wood, and ideal parts are traded for lightweight counterparts. That isn’t the case here. You can really feel the difference in the solid plywood construction.

The quality of their work is well-known. They also have a reputation for backing their warranties . You are unlikely to be left in a bad situation.

Keystone 22RBPR Bullet Premier

Two Kitchens

This trailer is perfect for those that love to cook. You get two kitchens, and both of them are well-designed.

Inside Kitchen

In the indoor kitchen, you have a sink that is stainless steel, rectangular, under-mounted, and huge. The high rise faucet only makes your time the kitchen easier. There are a sufficient amount of kitchen cabinets. The trailer has an oven with a three burner stove .

The counter space can either be decent or great depending on what is covered. The sink comes with a cutting board quality cover and the stove has a super convenient attached glass cover that cleanly folds to the back; making it a simple switch between counter space and cooking top.

Outdoor kitchen

The hatch to the outdoor kitchen is located near the back of the camper. When open, it covers the kitchen. That covering will not protect the kitchen from rain coming from the side, but it will provide some shade on a sunny day. Inside, you will find a mini-fridge, a two-burner cooktop, plenty of countertop space, a bit of storage, and an admittedly cheap but useful sink. There is also a single outlet for small kitchen appliances.

Around the corner and connected to the bumper is a swing arm attachment for a mountable grill. When connected, you can pivot the grill around that corner and to the outdoor kitchen space. It sounds bulky, but it’s a smooth operation when it’s all in place.

Back inside and opposed to the indoor kitchen is the U-shaped dinette. It is above average in size, and it doesn’t just barely seat four people; it seats those four people pretty comfortably. The only complaint that I have is common to almost all trailers. It’s that the table supports hinder your legroom. When the dinette is transformed into a bed, that bed is sizable enough to sleep, two people.

A Private Bedroom

If you’ve lived in a small trailer before, you probably know that privacy is very hard to find. The cramped quarters rarely leave room for solitude, and a nice walk is usually the only way to get it. That’s not the case here. You can have your very own room with the 22RB. Contained inside is a residential queen bed, plenty of storage that includes two hanging closets, and a couple of nightstands. The room, cabinets, and finishings are all beautifully themed.

On the downside, you don’t have a lot of room, so you’ll probably find yourself crawling over the bed to access some of the storage.

Considering the size of the trailer, the bathroom is surprisingly comfortable. From a visual standpoint, the porcelain toilet can look a bit cramped. However, when you are sitting on it, you’ll be surprised by how much room you actually have.

The shower is roomy. You get quite a bit of headroom, and the space around your body is ample. The shower is contained in glass which is a nice upgrade from a flimsy curtain. It keeps the water contained and won’t look as ratty over time.

There is a noteworthy amount of storage in the bathroom. The area above the toilet is so large that you could probably climb into it. You’ve also got the typical storage from cabinets and drawers, but those spaces are topped off with an oversized linen closet. The trailer sleeps 3 to 4 people, and they designed the linen closet to hold a generous amount of space for each of them.

This particular trailer separates the front and back tires a bit farther than most. This increased separation improves the stability of the overall unit. This is due to the wider stance lowering the overall center of gravity.
